𝐒𝐄𝐁𝐄𝐊 𝐙𝐈𝐆𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐓 &  𝐊𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃.

FAIRYTALES. 

BRIAR VALLEY is no stranger to  rich  history,  the most common form of tales being  recorded  first through memory  –  then scroll,    more  recently,  by book.  the lack of electricity left them with a  verbal history  preceding written,   leaving  long  gaps  that can only be filled by speaking to the eldest in the village.   among these folktales,   most revolve around  high fantasy  –  telling tales of fae - knights  &  royalty from briar valley. a common past - time that  these tales be shared to the  rare  young inhabitants of the village.   in youth,  these stories inspired sebek and his siblings to play using  wooden swords & shields,   pretending that they were members of the guard.   recalling of his grandfather’s time serving the draconia’s only further fueled the fantasy for the zigvolt siblings  &  inspired sebek to make it his goal,  latching onto his  strong - willed grandfather at a small age. 

TRADITIONS. 

the connection between  his  own family  &   the draconia family comes from a long lineage of servitude to the royal family.   each before him held the title of  retainer,   his grandfather being the last  to retire  from this position.     the long - lasting line of service had come to a  stop  when sebek’s mother broke tradition  &  married a human  –  who could not be deemed fit to stand as a knight without a  hint  of magic at his disposal.  sebek’s  father’s  profession was one of the first disappointments that he saw in him;   despite still maintaining a careful care of his own teeth as a cause of his father’s upbringing. 

in accordance with tradition,  there has  yet  to be a retainer to the draconia family who is  not  a full - blooded fae just like the rest of the royal family.  as much as sebek belittles  &  berates himself for being born half - human,  he still is motivated to be someone reliable to his young master despite his faults.   because of his late start to magic,   his skills are subpar  –  but what he lacks in magical control,   he is sure to make up for in combat talent  &  brute strength.   his reasoning for  not giving up  on becoming a knight  –  in despite the odds being stacked against him,  in a town where he is not looked upon as someone  capable  of being strong  –   unlike  a mage or a warlock,   swordsmanship  &  hand - to - hand combat are the first brought to mind where a knight is concerned.  of all the  fairytale ‘tropes’  mentioned in the stories he was read as a child  –  no  knight  is praised for relying on their  magical technique,   but instead how well they can  protect those they care about. 

SIBLINGS.

his relationship with his own siblings was always  alright  at best,   not  truly broken until they got to the age where competition between each of them was at large.   sebek’s own determination to earn a position as a retainer to the draconia family caused him to become  less  kind towards his own siblings,   treating them more like rivals than his own family.   his obsession with becoming  better  than them is what eventually caused them to see each other in a negative light.   because of this,  while he may speak fondly on his childhood stories,  he would not go so far as to say that he misses them.

CELLPHONES DO NOT EXIST IN HIS HOMETOWN,   and he had no exposure to them until coming to  night raven university.   this made for a handful of awkward explanations,   and a couple of alien - looks;   as well as the fact that he will not  willingly  carry one around.   with a mindset beyond his years  about the matter,   he sees them as a quick waste of time  &  a distraction.   sebek is sooner to relay a message face - to - face,   rather than decide to use a phone to do so.   prior to his enrollment at the college,   him  &  the rest of diasomnia’s inhabitants were keeping in - touch through hand - written letter.   

the concept of  social media  truly means little to him,   and if you try to explain it to him,   it will be met with indifference.   consumerism  &  fashion are only appealing to him if they are  practical.   overexposure to either of these holds no appeal to him,   nor does he particularly enjoy the concept of comparison of lifestyles.  chances are,   sebek is unable to compare his upbringing to most others who portray theirs through  electronics  as it is.   his knowledge of  pop culture  is also greatly lacking.   if it is not something that can be learned through an  age old  textbook,   he struggles to understand.   

it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to convince him to regularly start using social media.   of all the diasomnia members,   he is the only one that is shown to not have an appeal towards video games of any kind.   if it has no physical or mental appeal to his body,   wasting his time on it is a hard matter to convince.   he will always choose a book over scrolling through magicam.

NATURE is an  important  aspect of surviving in briar valley as a whole.   lacking the necessary magic talents from  birth  that allow most of it’s inhabitants to live comfortably without electricity,   his comfort with living heavily in - tune with nature formed  early  on in life.   whether it be  relying on  the position of the  sun  to tell time,   or collecting food in means that most would likely consider archaic with the presence of a  grocery store  in their hometown.   a lot of sebek’s  skills  rely on living off the land  —  for example,   in his  union birthday story,   he tells of a time that lilia dropped him  &  silver off to survive in the woods for a week;   all while they were only children.   often considering these situations a chance to  better himself  as a future retainer,   he takes them with little complaint  —   or questioning as to how they will work out in the end.   on multiple instances,   he has mentioned being proficient at fishing,  and  preparing  meals that include seafood,   a cause of his grandfather teaching him from his youth.   

despite his ability to coexist  &  live off the land with ease,   he does show a difficulty for making peace with wildlife.   (  going to write a meta on this one eventually,   so not going to go super in - depth on it quite yet  ).    the sound of bird’s singing is most definitely something he experiences solely from a distance,  with a natural habit to  disrupt  or  startle,    most creatures scatter at his presence.  

considering his  hometown,  it would be impossible to never set foot within a forest.    especially when tasks around the house would call for this exact situation.    despite the youngest of his siblings,   sebek was always one to offer  physical labor  to his family  —  a means of making up for being the  least adept  with magic;   whether it was chopping wood  &  carrying it back to the house,   or pulling out a  boat  to fish with his grandfather.    his lack of magical prowess had landed him reliant on his  mother  for longer than the rest of his siblings,   her being his  primary  source of knowledge before being taken in by lilia  —  his father is completely magicless  &  possesses no ability to assist him aside from emotional support  (  which more often frustrates him,  more than it helps ).  

his stories of training are vast  &  tend to  shock  most who did not go through such an aggressive series of trials.   per the  vargas camp  story,   sebek describes both scaling a cliff  &  walking through a thick swamp as simple activities;  skills that he accumulated through his past training.   his personal weakness being that he cannot handle the  cold  well,  preferring to over - dress during the heat,  so long as it will ensure that he ends up being  warm  when the weather does start to drop in the night.

per his  birthday boy  personal story,  sebek describes his mother as a  creature of the night  (  as known as a nocturnal fae  ).   this alone seems like  enough  to base the thought that their species flourishes in the nighttime  — which may be why diasomnia in itself is so  dark  all - day.   because of his fae - blood,   sebek does not sleep until well into the night;   while still waking up  relatively early  to ready himself for the day. 

in comparison to someone of full human lineage,   he does not  need  a full eight hours of sleep to preform his best  —  truthfully,   he  may  even find it a waste of his time.   the longer that he is awake,  the  more  that he can get done;   the same can be said for the morning hours,   though he is much less enthusiastic about these. 

able to sleep through most loud sounds,   he did not  wake up  to the sound of lilia’s scream in the  endless halloween event.   through this is likely because of him growing accustomed to sleeping in strange places as a cause of the training he endured in his youth.   if he  must  sleep on the ground,  without a pillow or a blanket,  he is perfectly capable of doing so.   only exception to this is in  cold temperatures.   sebek will sooner spend the night shivering over getting shut eye if he is too  cold.    not exactly proud to sleep through  any sounds,    he wishes that he could be more  alert  even in his sleep;   however,   he lacks general awareness at times even in wake. 

note:   consider his  lack  of need to sleep long hours as a  opposition to his counterpart,   who sleeps for long hours  &  in bursts throughout the day. 

as for sleeping position #16,   he sleeps quite  stiffly.    does not move around a lot when he is asleep.  the picture of a perfectly  still  -  sleep beauty - esque figure.   on his back,  arms over the chest  &  will not budge for anything.   the only time that you are apt to catch sebek with his hair not properly set is for bedtime.

his handwriting is  neither  good nor bad.   very distinctive,   gothic  - looking letters,   he writes in  all  caps.   the letters are jagged  &  rough,   with heavy - weight to them,   as if he puts  lots  of pressure on the pen when he writes.   beauty is not  key  to his writing,  rather efficiency  &  speed;   legibility is secondary to this,   so long as it is neat enough.   one impressive thing about his writing is that he does not veer off  or  write at a slant.   sebek can write in  straight lines,   after much practice of rewriting books in his youth.   

unlike most in  briar valley,   he does not use magic - aid to write.   prefers to write entirely by hand;   though he will say this is because of a  love  for doing things the  manual - way,   rather than admitting to any inadequacies in his own magical talents.   sebek  is  left - handed  &  does not have the ability to hold a pen in his right hand.    his hand - writing  looks  so heavy because of the way that he holds  his pens / pencils.   maintaining a  tight  grip on them,   he never learned the  proper  way to hold a pencil  —  and does so incorrectly since youth.   it causes some issues with writing for long periods of time,    another reason that his  text  comes out looking  blocky  &  jagged  —  his hand is occasionally covering where he is writing.  

his notes are surprisingly  easy  to read in terms of organization,   has highly  valuable  notes to get your hands on if you  ever  miss out on a class  (  or  fall asleep  ),   the only difficult part is convincing him to feed into  slackers.   can be quite protective of his own school work,  disliking the concept of working in  teams  or assisting those who are  undeserving  of such.
