Is that little Jenny Humphrey from Brooklyn I see before me? I really have been gone for too long, haven’t I? How on earth did you go from a nobody to Queen B? Or, wait, you all but abolished the hierarchy that centuries of Constance goers upheld before you- didn’t you? The last time I checked, you were an anonymous wannabe trying to claw their way onto my radar. You made a few fair plays for the spotlight mind you (on the arm of Damien Dalgaard, for example). You were running bottom of the barrel errands for former QB Blair and she was barely remembering your name nevermind anything else. I underestimated you, Little J. Your ambition has truly known no means. You wanted to be one of us and now you are. I wonder if it’s everything you imagined it to be. I wonder if you regret crossing over to the other side. A Little Extra

Jenny Humphrey had always dreamed of sitting on the Met steps with the popular kids at Constance Billard. What were they talking about? What were they wearing? She was consumed by it. All Jenny wanted was to fit into this seemingly magical world of glitz and glam. Of boyfriends like Nate Archibald and besties like Blair Waldorf. When Jenny lucked into the chance to be noticed by the Queen B herself, she jumped through every single damned hoop that Blair threw her way. Jenny got herself into trouble, sneaking around behind her dad’s back, believing she was truly a part of the group. When Jenny ended up involved in a little joy ride with our Upper East Siders and got caught, she came crashing back down to reality. Jenny was in big trouble and while it could have been worse, she certainly didn’t get away with being there scot-free like everyone else.

For a while she was bitter and for the most part, it was perfectly valid. Then perhaps one of the single most unexpected things happened on the Upper East Side. Jennifer Tallulah Humphrey was crowned the new Queen B of Constance Billard by Blair Waldorf herself. It was everything she had ever wanted. And then Jenny realised that she didn’t really want it at all. It took some convincing- there was plenty of drama and growing pains- but Jenny managed to convince everyone else of the same. Gossip Girl was gone, the NJBC were moving on and why not let there be peace in the kingdom? From then on, Jenny felt like she could finally let out a breath. She was able to have fun and trust her cool, new friends. Jenny’s last years at Constance Billard were finally worth remembering. She became more confident, pursuing her love of fashion and design. Jenny can’t wait to spend this summer with her besties on an Upper East Side free of any ‘XOXO’s.

Who Is Zeke?

You really are just here to have a good time, aren��t you, Zeke? I bet you never managed to make it to your locker without at least half a dozen hellos and high fives from your peers. Being the most popular kid in school is hard work, I know but you managed it with such ease. You never let it make you any less kind though. You’ve always been the first to welcome or welcome back the new kid, give them a place at your lunch table and offer a supportive fist bump. Lucky you were around to soothe egos when Jenny Humphrey was handed down the crown from Blair otherwise there might have been anarchy. Having a heart of gold around here isn’t easy but you do it. Of course you can have a petty side too, huh? Still. Nothing gets you down, you seemingly breeze by but tell me, are you worried now that your time at St. Jude’s is over? A Little Extra

Zeke Lopez is here to have a good time. You only live once, right? At least that’s the working theory. With the amount of money his parents are piling into his trust fund, he might just be able to afford to live forever someday. Carpe-ing the diem eternally, baby! For now though, he’s mainly focused on himself, his friend sand his hair (not necessarily in that order). Zeke was the one you saw in the hallway at St Jude’s who couldn’t make it to his locker without receiving at least ten high fives. Zeke’s popular, beloved even and he isn’t above reminding himself in the mirror that he is, indeed, the man. There is nothing wrong with being confident, loving yourself and focusing on number one for the most part. So yes, much like most Upper East Siders, he’s living in his own little bubble. That doesn’t mean he’s not aware that there are other people out there, it’s just that he doesn’t have time to, like, acknowledge most of them.

His inner inner circle is small. Originally, it was Zeke, Caitlyn and Raquel but now it’s expanded to include Jenny and Eric. They’re the best people he knows and the only ones he really needs. Needless to say, he’s the lucky one. Now, Zeke wasn’t ever really particularly interested in school. It’s just that…it’s so boring. Studying is boring and he’d rather be doing anything else. If Zeke put half as much effort into his academics as his social life, he’d be awesome. But here’s the question he often poses to himself when it comes to partying versus homework: what would Chuck Bass do? That thinking left him with deciding that instead of heading to college right away or whatever else he might do... He was going to take a gap year. Travel. Meet new people and try new things. It might have caused a couple of arguments between him and Caitlyn and, well, they’re currently in an ‘off’ phase. Zeke’s got oats to sow or whatever, you know? He needs to live!

Either way, I certainly can’t wait to see you again. You’ve always been very smart especially when it comes to figuring out just how best you can manipulate people. In fact, given the chance, you’re even more the puppet master than I. If there’s something that you want, you’ll stop at nothing to get it regardless of the consequences. A Little Extra

Penelope Shafai thrives in this cutthroat world of fake niceties and power moves. She knew from the second she stepped foot in Constance Billard that the game was on. There isn’t one person in Penelope’s contact list that isn’t inner inner circle and she would rather ride the bus than be caught dead in anything less than the best a designer has to offer. Her standards are high and thinking that you’re going to make them is a fool’s errand. While Penelope has always exuded confidence, in her heart of hearts she’s always felt less than the best. Fake it until you make it, right? It didn’t help that all her life she felt compared to other people that in her eyes were just that little bit more than she was. It infuriated her, made her feel bitter and resentful which, yes, might have spurred a few ‘mean’ comments here and there. Might have encouraged her to burn a few bridges. During her time at Constance, she had to suffer the whims of Queen B and her tendency to brush off her ‘friends’.

Penelope plotted and schemed against her, of course and undetected threw a few spanners into the works of B’s life. At least she was popular though, you know? Penelope is used to a certain kind of lifestyle, being respected and adored (or feared) because she was a someone. And what do someones absolutely hate? Nobodies and wannabes. There’s a laundry list of people who Pen couldn’t care less about that probably think about her still to this day. Status will always be important to her though. For example, her embarrassing crush on Nate Archibald? Yeah, forgotten the second his life fell apart and he’s like, poor now, or something. Loyalty is overrated and Penelope simply does not have time for it. Now that she’s a couple years out of the pressure cooker that was Constance, she is happy to be doing her own thing. To readily ignore messages in the Group Chat from the other ‘minions’ when she feels like it. This is Penelope’s time to shine and no one is going to get in the way of that.

Bella Coates - Bella is Pen’s favourite person in the entire world. Sometimes the only person that she can stand to be around and actually wants to be around. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she always sends the most ‘x’s’ to Pen when they text. Bella’s just...the best. Tragic taste in romantic endeavors aside, of course. Bella could always do better.

Hazel Williams and Kati Farkas - the high school besties. Sometimes Pen wasn’t sure if she really liked her friends or not but they’re stuck in the same circles now. Kati always seemed to have a little bit of a problem with her but that might be because Pen and Bella are so close.

Blair Waldorf - the Queen B (former) that Penelope had to suffer through at Constance. She questioned many of B’s decision but the whole ‘Jenny Humphrey’ thing was just too much. Anyway. So glad that she doesn’t have to literally see her every day now.

Nate Archibald - everyone has a first crush on Nate Archibald, it’s whatever. Pen might have tried her luck with him before but now? He’s a total write off.

Dan Humphrey. Who knew that I would ever wake up into a world where your name was relevant on the Upper East Side? Your sister is one thing, Jenny had ambitions but you? You were dragged into the spotlight. You were a nobody, a blimp on the radar. You were too busy judging from your high horse to want to be a part of this world. You wore your sarcasm like armor and still do. Of course, I’m sure once you get past your prickly exterior, there’s an interesting and intelligent person underneath. I can be charming when I want to be, Dan but I’m still undecided when it comes to you. Your loyalties lie with a select few and your principles (gross) and morals are still in tact. Dan Humphrey was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth and that would have been fine if he ended up going to a normal school. If he’d been allowed to make normal friends. St Jude’s was anything but a normal school. No, St Jude’s was full to the brim with snobby, ungrateful and downright shameless Upper East Siders. Kids who spent more on their sneakers than Dan would need to go to college ten times over. Kids who either pretended he literally didn’t exist or pushed him in the hallways for not being one of them. It might have made him bitter. Judgemental. Quick to distrust and dislike anyone who was blasted on ‘Gossip Girl’. Dan liked being apart from the crowd- from that crowd- and instead spent his time focusing on the future. On his scholarship to somewhere like NYU where he’d study literature. Where he’d pen his first great novel and finally connect with fellow intellectuals who cared about the world.

Growing up, Dan had it pretty good. Sure, his and Jenny’s mom left to ‘find herself’ but Rufus Humphrey does a stand up job. Dan loves and respects his dad even if he must mock him for still thinking he’s cool. Dan has always taken being a big brother seriously as well. He wants to look out for his little sister, make sure she’s okay and that she can always depend on him. Is he trying to make up for the fact that their mom hasn’t visited in, well, a while? Sure. Does he try too hard? Definitely. He tries not to ‘parent’ her but sometimes he just can’t help himself especially with some of the crap that Jenny’s pulled with her Upper East Side ‘friends’. While Jenny always had a romanticized view of the so-called ‘scandalous elite’, Dan always saw right through their BS. Unless, of course, it was Serena van der Woodsen who in his eyes could do no wrong. Things took a sharp turn for Dan when he ended up entangled in none other than Nate Archibald’s life. Next thing he knows, he’s the one splashed over Gossip Girl. Next thing he knows, people know his name (at least for a minute). He’s still not really used to that one but there’s no turning back now.

Dan was roped into the ‘Gossip Girl’ takedown before he could even start to refuse. Sure, his heart stings might have been pulled by how miserable GG had made Nate after his father’s arrest but he still didn’t want to be involved. It wasn’t his idea. But when Jesse Walker asked him to please help them expose GG, he ended up agreeing. Blair Waldorf throwing a birthday party for Dan Humphrey was so O-M-G, W-T-F, that it just had to flush out the real GG who had since been starved of followers sending gossip in thanks to the ‘takedown team’ (or whatever). You know what? A secret? The party wasn’t half bad. Thankfully, GG did end up disappearing but they never did find out who they were. Hopefully GG isn’t going to blame him for being involved with it all...

Vanessa Abrams - childhood bestie. Vanessa had moved away for a while which had, frankly, sucked. He’s so grateful to have them back in his life again.

Nate Archibald - okay, so Nate ‘the golden boy’ Archibald was not someone Dan ever really wanted to know. And then the Fairchild Ball happened and Nate’s dad was arrested in front of everyone. Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass - possibly the worst people that Dan has ever met? Debatable. They are an unfortunate side effect of being friends with Nate.

Who Is Caitlyn?

You have always been destined for greatness, Caitlyn Coates. After all, it’s in your DNA. From your iconic parents, to your superstar siblings--- you’ve always known that being a Coates meant being so much more than your average whoever. You’ve always been told you could do anything you want and do it better than anyone who’d done it before you. This got you the grades and the high praise but it also gifted you a really competitive edge. You have to win and that’s that. The Coates family are a competitive collective. They thrive under pressure and they love achievement. Family game night at their house? Not for the faint of heart. There was one game of Monopoly that almost scared off even Caitlyn’s sweetie Zeke and Zeke said they were ‘game for anything’. Caitlyn is passionate and there’s nothing wrong with that, thank you.

Caitlyn also loves to rant. Once they get on a topic, it can go on for hours. The only thing that really calms them down is their super sweet, super (actually) chill bestie, Raquel, and their fave smoothie place. Sometimes there’s just a lot to say. Sometimes the audacity of others deserves a few hours of attention.

At Constance, Caitlyn was an all around achiever. Sports, academia, the arts, looking amazing, being popular: there wasn’t anything they weren’t nailing. Caitlyn was going to be the next Queen B and, ah, let’s just say Caitlyn didn’t take Jenny Humphrey’s rise to fame well. There was dissent, rivalry, petty pranks and ultimately... A truce.

Raquel would say that Caitlyn is wise behind their years. That they’ve ‘been on this planet before’, that they’re an old soul and in a way it’s true. Sometimes Caitlyn feels a heavy weight on their shoulders or a tiredness they can’t quite explain. Their mind is always thinking at least 5 steps ahead and it can be exhausting.

While college, world domination and cute summer seflies are all high on Caitlyn’s priority list, maybe there might be a little downtime for them too. Time to relax, to turn off their brain and not have to be the best for a day. Well, maybe half a day. We’ll see. Caitlyn could be the best at relaxing, right?

Raquel Hernandez - the BFF, better half, literally completes them. Caitlyn would be lost without Raquel in their life! Raquel is the sunshine that warms and lights up their life.

Zeke Lopez - the significant other. The famously on-off significant other. Everyone knows about Zeke-and-Caitlyn. They are Drama with a capital ‘D’. It’s either PDA city, breaking up to make up or worse. Or better. Their relationship brings out Caitlyn’s jealousy (and passion). It depends. As Zeke always says though--- they’re endgame. Right?

Jenny Humphrey - okay so here’s the thing. Jenny Humphrey was a nobody, plucked from obscurity with plans to break the status quo. Not to be a Sharpay but Caitlyn didn’t like it. After Blair made Jenny Queen Bee, Caitlyn made Jenny public enemy number 1 but after much mess, persuasion from Raquel and maybe even liking Jenny a little... There was finally peace in the kingdom.

Eric van der Woodsen - with Jenny came Eric who admittedly Caitlyn liked way more than Jenny at the time. Now they’re the inner circle: Eric, Jenny, Raquel and Zeke. Both willingly and begrudgingly, Caitlyn loves them.

Who Is Eric?

I’ll admit it, I’ve always had a soft spot for you, Eric van der Woodsen. You’ve always been the sensible one in the family, the one who thinks ahead and is actually capable of good choices. Of course, as the baby of the family, you really shouldn’t have been the one taking care of everyone else. You’ve always had a big heart, you’re inclined to be kind and put other people before yourself. You might have the wit, the sarcasm and the bite down but you’re the first to welcome a new face. Unlike your formerly notorious sister Serena, you shy away from the spotlight even to this day. You’re not exactly shy (who is around here) but you do need a lot more coaxing to tag along to a party. You’re not afraid to be who you are and you’re not afraid to be honest (rightly so). You dish out the harsh truth when needed and you show up without fail for your loved ones even when you told them so. You might be the only thing keeping the Upper East Side upright, Eric. Trigger Warning: Suicide attempt

Eric is a van der Woodsen and with that comes certain expectations and reputations. Serena was always disappearing and getting into trouble and their mom, Lily, well... She was always doing the same. Eric was alone a lot of the time, picking up the pieces of the family whenever needed. They weren’t there the night that Eric attempted suicide. Lily’s reaction, of course, was to get Eric help which was fine but after? She told everyone that Eric was ‘visiting relatives in Miami’. Needless to say, that didn’t sit well with Eric. After a serious talk with both Lily and Serena (who were too busy arguing about Eric to listen to Eric, at the time), they agreed to stop lying and to let Eric get back to life on the Upper East Side. They still don’t understand entirely and they sometimes still treat Eric differently but it’s getting better. Lily and Serena will always be the most important people in the world to Eric. 

Another thing that Eric talked to Lily and Serena about was the fact that they’re gay. Eric might have expected the worst from their mom but was met with love and acceptance from them both. Chuck Bass was actually the first person Eric told.

While the people closest to Eric are always dealing with so much drama, Eric tends to avoid it. They prefer a quiet night in, keeping to themselves and hopefully not getting dragged into too many, ah, shenanigans. Then again, with a little coaxing, Eric does also enjoy a bit of reckless fun.

As kind, as friendly, as lovely as Eric can be and often is- they will knock you off your high horse if the occasion calls for it. Be it with a cutting, stinging, remark or with a devious scheme (aided by the NJBC if necessary).

Having graduated St. Jude’s with almost minimal drama, Eric’s looking forward to this summer. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be light and breezy. It’s hopefully not going to end in tears.

You know there was a time when I didn’t even know who the hell you were, Vanessa Abrams. I bet you’d like to go back to those days, wouldn’t you? Oh well. You’ve always been opinionated, laid back and deeply empathetic. You really would solve all the world’s problems if you could and you cannot stand injustice. You want to make a difference, make a stand, leave your mark in as many ways as you can. It’s no surprise you didn’t care much for the indulgent, lavish and catty lives of our Upper East Siders. You might truly be the polar opposite of everything they are. You might be quick to throw around harsh truths, lose your tact in the heat of the moment but I’ll admit... You’re a good person. A little judgemental? Sure but you don’t let it cloud your decisions. Some might think the UES would have chewed you up by now but no, you’ve held your ground. I can’t wait to catch up with you, V.

After all, no one could compete for Dan’s heart like Serena but then Vanessa talked to her. Heard her. Found her charming and lovable and just a little bit of a mess and damn it all, she understood where Dan was coming from. From there V tried her best not to get involved with the drama, with Gossip Girl but she wasn’t always successful. Still, she made it out fairly unscathed, backpacked around Europe and saved up for her BA in film (are still saving up). Being in Serena’s world had its perks, naturally. Vanessa’s photography skills were noticed, cards were handed out. She just needs to keep reminding herself not to get sucked in, to do things her way before things end up a little bit of a mess, you know?

One of the original ‘minions’ of Constance HBIC Blair Waldorf. Hazel lived the teen royalty dream along with Penelope, Kati and Isabella. A big flirt - c’est la vie. Hazel is always looking for love but ends up in very messy, dramatic relationships (usually short lived). Has broken up with more than one person over text and even one poor sap over Snapchat. Oh well, right?

My, my if it isn’t Nelly Yuki. You’ve come a long way from being the unknown newcomer at Constance Billard, haven’t you? You were on my radar from the start of course. Back then, anyone who might seriously threaten Queen B’s academic standings and future spot at Yale was one to watch. You might be smart but you also put in the work (just like Blair, in fact) and not just academically. No one saw it coming but you play the game just as well as any of these Upper East Siders. You’re not afraid to manipulate or get your hands dirty when the occasion calls for it. You learn fast which made climbing the social ladder at Constance easier than it should have been. No matter what clique you were in though, you were always true to yourself which is quite the feat around here. You always make sure to have something extra up your sleeve, to always be the smartest person in the room and never, ever get backed into a corner you can’t get out of. Nelly has wanted to go to Yale University for as long as they can remember. Considering the shady moves Blair Waldorf tried to pull to take Nelly’s spot, they weren’t exactly upset when B went to a different college. Nelly is living their best life free of Upper East Side drama now.

A little fickle in friendships - Nelly will quite happily jump social ships if there’s a need for it. They don’t throw themselves fully into their relationships (to avoid being hurt? To avoid giving too much of their heart away? Who’s to say).

Things were rocky when Nelly first came to Constance but after some unnecessary drama, they actually ended up in the ‘inner circle’. Nelly was having lunch on top of the exclusive Met steps with Queen Blair and the rest of the entourage before they knew it.

Happy to leave behind high school, Gossip Girl and the never ending rumour mill on the Upper East Side, college has been awesome so far. Nelly just feels like they can relax a little more at Yale. Sure, if someone from Constance posts on Instagram, Nelly’ll like the picture but that’s pretty much the extent of ‘keeping in touch’ they’ve done.
