friendship given from the King of England to the King of Scots was a surprising one. Their countries had been at war, on and off, since before Robert was born a mixture of light skirmishes across the border to full-scale battles that shook the ground and left if bloodied.
Robert's expression when the messenger had been shown in to him and the offer made was one of incredulousness but the more the thoughts ran through his mind the more it made sense. Henry lost a lot of allies and friends with the rambunctious split from Rome for the love of a woman. Scotland was a Catholic country but Protestants' practiced freely so long as it did not encroach on others. It was an uneasy balance that many, including the King, found difficult.
He had been fussed over by the Tudor and expensive presents exchanged when he arrived in London the day before the christening of Edward, his soon-to-be godson.
β The fault is aw mine, milady. β With his Scottish accent thick and proud, Robert bowed his head towards her, his grey eyes suddenly wide at the beauty before him. β I hope I didnae injure you. Your husband may wish to duel me for the slight. β His brows furrowed and he, sadly, had to glance away from the dark-haired female. β Though perhaps that is a Scots thing, more than English. β
@reiignonme liked for a starter from Anne Boleyn in the Divorced Instead of Beheaded AU
Anne Boleyn, the former Queen and now the current Marquess of Pembroke, thought she had been used to her ex-husbandβs cruelty. She had seen first hand what he had done to his first wife, and while she hadnβt protested then due to being in love with him at the time, she now fully understood what Catherine of Aragon had gone through. At first, though she was completely broken-hearted when her marriage ended, she thought she hadnβt been dealt the worst hand in the world. She was still the Marquess of Pembroke, and she now got to spend more time with their daughter Elizabeth, who was growing like a weed at Hatfield. While she hated the fact that the intelligent young girl was now declared illegitimate, at least they had each other. And being away from court had been a much needed respite, and she had not had any intention of going back anytime soon, especially once she heard that the King had married Jane Seymour a week after their divorce was finalized.Β
Only for the woman who Anne believed was at least partly responsible for her miscarriage to succeed where Anne had failed. The Seymour woman had given Henry a son. And her ex-husband had commanded that she attend the christening, with threats of refusing permission for her to see Elizabeth if she did not. That threat was the only reason she was here now, and she had to fight to maintain a polite expression despite her pain. She was very well aware of the courtβs whispers, laughter and stares at her, including the smirk the Duke of Suffolk sent her, the insufferable man. Not to mention her fatherβs and uncleβs hints that she remarry soon. It was more than she could take.Β
She had turned down a hallway to get some much needed air when she bumped into a man she did not recognize. She swallowed her anger, reminding herself of her newer position before apologizing.Β βMy apologies, I did not mean to bump into you, sir.β

Robert had little faith that the marriage would be successful.
The customary greeting of the to-be husband and wife had occurred the day before as the ship arrived in harbour. It was a long journey from her home to his and the feast was planned for the next day.
His Lord's had presented Matilda and the King of Scots with gifts for the upcoming nuptials and finally after what felt like hours, there was some peace to hold conversation.
β I hope the quick schedule of the festivities have not been too tiring for you. β Small talk was always a good place to start.

[ β ] β πππ ππ ππππππ was no way to greet ones wife, but given the nine days it had been since the latest skirmish with the English that had left him unconscious, it had to be done. He had woken in a house of a healer and her young children who had nursed him back to health slowly and he regained the ability to move. To her and any others, Robert looked like a soldier for he dressed the same as his men that went to battle with him ; his simple golden crown lost after the knock to his head.
β You insult me, dearest wife, if you ever thought that near-death would part me from you for any longer. The pain of it was worse than my injuries. β
@reiignonme sent 2) our muses reunite after receiver thought sender was dead. TO ANNE / FROM ROBERT. gimme angst xD
Queen Anne Boleyn of Scotland hadn't left her chambers since she had received word of her husband's death in battle. She hadn't let any visitors in, not even having the strength to look at their children in her grief. When the door opened suddenly, she looked up in irritation only to gasp in shock when her beloved husband's familiar form stood in the doorway.
"No, you're dead," she muttered, rubbing her eyes in belief that this was an illusion. "My grief has made me go mad to think you could be here still."

Scots let out a long sigh. He had not expected the proposal to go down well with England's King, but Robert had not expected to be in the position of proposing at all. What a funny turn of events from being asked to be Edward's godfather to now.
His arms wrap around her smaller frame, bringing Anne close to his chest. β There is no need to apologise to me. He is simply attempting to show the bravado of the stronger King. β There was no point in denying the facts, but many of the things Henry said were ... outlandish to say the least. β I have a daughter and many brothers, if children do not come. β He reassured her from another of Henry's foul statements.
@reiignonme sent βΒ you donβt have to hide your tears.Β let it out.Β then weβll move on,Β together.Β β TO ANNE / FROM ROBERT.
Anne didn't know what it was about the King of Scotland that made her feel safe with him. After her divorce, she had sworn she was done with kings altogether, but Robert made her feel so wanted and cared for, a feeling she hadn't had in a very long time. Tears traveled down her cheeks as she let the pain of her ex-husband's reaction to their engagement release.
"I am sorry for that. I do not know why he still has the power to hurt me when I swore I was done letting him get to me," she admitted, wiping her eyes with her handkerchief.
