I should add that Cindrel isn't aggressive with Jaime. He's about the same but to a lesser extent.

He'll get really territorial about her too, though. Because she's Nate's sister and in Cindrel's tiny head, it means that anyone that approaches her has a chance of meeting him without going through "proper vetting".

Cindrel? Can't have that. Nope.

Have you ever had a brief, uneasy feeling that you can't explain? Like a random bout of anxiety that just seeps into you slowly — causing a tightness in your chest, an inability to focus, some difficulty sitting still, the urge to go do something else or be somewhere else? Sometimes, being around the main six ( Kiara, Hayden, Iokua, Beatrice, Jaime, and Nathaniel ) causes that — at least in Eokketion.

Whether or not it affects beings outside of the realm is up to y'all but the reason why it affects Teoniv citizens so viscerally is because of magic. Because it is so deeply ingrained in society and in their physiology, perceived disturbances in said magic tends to result in physical reaction. For example, the energy of magic in Eokketion is not compatible with the energy of magic elsewhere ( think oil and water ); and this means that Teoniv beings that leave the realm can't replenish their magic if they aren't home. If they begin run out of magic, their body will begin to shut down and they will get sick. If they're running on empty, they run a very real risk of dying.

With the kiddos, their body "operates" on two sources of magic. One is Teoniv ( which they were born with ) and the other is Pheric ( due to the eldritch gods/abominations taking a snooze in all six of them ). Teoniv and Pheric magic are not opposed to each other — and honestly are like two sides of the same coin if we don't factor in Xathil magic — but Teoniv bodies are not suited for Pheric magic. It, quite literally, burns through them and there is very little way to mitigate that because they're just… incompatible. And they were made incompatible on purpose.

Ignoring how all that makes the kiddos feel for a moment, the resulting incompatibility leads to… a leak, of sorts. They all have seals who main function is to act as a partition between these two sources and keep the other, "less welcome" source contained. However, like most things, the layers of these seals erodes over time ( I think I had established that it takes about… 5 years or so in a deleted post… which I will remake at some point ) and when each one does, magic does begin to seep out. It's in small, usually unnoticeable quantities early on… but that changes as time passes. Of course the kiddos feel it but they've gotten used to the sensation, so they sometimes ignore it if they're focused on something else or tired or feeling some other rush of emotion. Magic, in these realms, permeates through the air, and some different types ( like Pheric magic ) move through it very quickly. It's not strong enough to burn anyone but contact with it does cause that weird, unnaturally warm feeling you get when you're anxious.

on top of that, these beings ( even when dormant ) exert... a sort of pressure that is indistinguishable from normal when the seals are fully functioning. but as they erode, that pressure increases bit by bit. it's almost like something is pushing down on you or... restricting your movements. the intensity of it ticks up every half a decade — quicker if the seal cracks under emotional and physical stress.

this is all to say... if someone has know them a while and they get this weird overwhelming sense of anxiety that only happens when they are near, that is why :) the only ones it doesn't happen to so far is Brodiaea and Núnmai

Things my muses do on Valentine's day ( or when in love )

Hayden

In a relationship: He makes a small charm or piece of jewelry out of one of his feathers for his beloved. He'll also arrange for them to have a little outdoor picnic right at sunset so they can watch the sun down.

When in love: I'm a sucker for the "walks somewhere/touches something and flowers bloom where they've stepped" aesthetic so that happens with Hayden. It's not a constant occurence (because Hayden is careful with his magic) but it does happen and if he's sitting somewhere outside, the radius of those pop-up flowers grows the longer he sits there. He'll probably give some of these flowers to his crush if he doesn't lose his nerve.

Kiara

In a relationship: There are several places in the Whitewood that are considerably safer that the rest of it. Ki knows these places and will bring her beloved there at night when the moon is highest in the sky so they can see how beautiful it is at that time.

When in love: She'll write them song after song after song after song. She will write and compose so many pieces for that one special person and she'll save them so she never runs out of songs for them.

Iokua

In a relationship: There are several beautiful waterfalls and beaches that dot Afirewyn... and Yoyo has a soft spot for waterfall and beach dates so he tries to squeeze in both--waterfall date in the morning/afternoon and beach date in the afternoon/evening.

When in love: He will have so many nicknames for his crush. He'll come up with a nickname in his language specific to them, too, so that they know that he is talking to them. He will never use that name for anyone else.

Beatrice

In a relationship: Her family is Disgustingly Rich so she will use that money to spoil the hell out of her partner. Of course, she's going to ask what they want and only get them things they've actually mentioned wanting but could not have for one reason or anything. However, if that so happens to include an extravagant and costly trip, far be it from her to say no.

When in love: Oh--the amount of time and effort Bea will pour into making a weapon or armor for this special someone is something to be admired. She will spend months on it and will constantly make newer versions of it until it's perfect and nothing needs to be changed. It's a labor of love and she wants them to actually use it.

Nathaniel

In a relationship: He is a big proponent of "Stay-in" dates that are just... very relaxed and lowkey and the main goal is to simply enjoy the other's company. wake up, make breakfast together, maybe take a a scenic little walk, get lunch from a cute lil place, and so on and so forth. he cares less about the display of it all and more about... just spending time with a loved one.

When in love: He talks a whole lot more and is generally a lot more expressive and honest with the object of his affections. He also is less worried about Cindrel--his kyrkeidis (bird-cat creature native to Sirecia)--biting or scratching you because Cindrel will probably like you... somewhat.

Jaime

In a relationship: She'll try to take her s/o ice-skating. it's okay if they don't know because she'll walk them through it and will spend the entire date teaching them if she has to. if it doesn't work out, that's fine--so long as they spent time together, she's happy.

When in love: Is a "Hey you want to come with me to this?" girlie. And a "I saw this while I was out shopping the other day and it reminded me of you" girlie. And also a "I know you like this treat so I got it for you" girlie. Jaime is very attentive and will keep track of the things her crush likes so she can surprise with it.
