As a child, after her parents passed away, Ella endured a lot of physical abuse from her stepfamily. She was told it was the only way to make sure she stayed in line. If she didn't finish a task on time or to her stepmother's approval she would be beaten and sent to bed without supper. If she was caught trying to eat just scraps she would be beaten again.

She did try running away one time and was brought back. The reason her stepmother kept her around was because she was ( mostly ) free labor. As long as she was fed, clothed, and had a bed she figured it was payment enough to serve them. For her disobedience, she was nearly choked to death by her stepmother.

She doesn't like showing her skin much, especially her back as that is where the majority of her scaring is, and the day she marries she is terrified of her spouse seeing the scars. She knows she is a broken person and knows that her spouse might be repulsed by what they might see. So she wears nightgowns that cover her well until her spouse makes her comfortable enough in her body.

In AUs where she marries well ( whether modern or fantasy/era ) she is still ridiculed and has been poisoned ( or in the case of @farspirit's and my AU, kidnapped ) a time or two because others don't see her as a worthy partner to her spouse.

Because of the beatings she's endured, she does have issues keeping her pregnancies and the miscarriages she endures put her into a depression for a time.

Through it all, though, she will still smile at you and help you.

This headcanon is true of my main, and of my AU with @farspirit and @diivineray

Lucius was nervous, his fingers dancing on the rim of his glass while his mind contemplated another drink. Though he had received wonderful news, his drinking was more to quell his unease rather than celebrate.

They had been down this path before, a few times in fact, and it had never ended well. He had started to blame himself, as if the world was punishing him for his disloyalty by never allowing his wife to carry to term.

Knowing his wife had kept this pregnancy a secret until it was safe enough to tell him, he wondered how many other pregnancies had failed that she had hidden from him. He had been all too caught up in the Dark Lord’s plans and her sister’s bed that he had failed at his role as a husband. If he couldn’t fill that role, how could he be a father?

He poured himself another drink and drained it much too quickly. As he reached for the bottle yet again, the shadow of an all too familiar figure appeared.

“Not tonight Bella,” he said, his voice tired. “In fact, our last time was the last time. Hope you remember it well.”

i was completely inspired by emily's post . . . dany doesn't think she can get sick. even in her childhood, she can remember being scared, hungry, and cold, but never sick. this is one of the reasons why she isn't afraid of directly touching and aiding those with the bloody flux ( much to her guards' chagrin and fear ) and it later becomes a point of major panic on the dothraki sea when she's experiencing the impact of illness due to poison berries and tainted water ( and a potential miscarriage ). she's so afraid of this unusual feeling of weakness that it brings her to tears ; however even then, she wouldn't identify this experience as illness, but rather the hardships of survival.

Breha can’t carry a baby to term.

Due to her accident, her body just isn’t strong enough to carry a pregnancy. Not for lack of trying though, Breha got pregnant three times before losing the babies early in the first trimester.

Bail and Breha considered looking into the Kamino’s cloning technology. But in the end, they adopted Leia instead.

quick headcanon that i will elaborate on later:

ella isn't overly religious but after her second miscarriage, she went to the chapel often, especially after the first month of losing her second, crying, yelling, pleading for whatever God there was, to give her a child to love, cherish, and more importantly, to be her husband's heir.

"I was a daughter and then a maid and now I am a wife and I had hoped a mother." But even that she couldn't seem to do right. The royal cemetery showed how many times she had failed the kingdom.

She turned her hands over in her lap, faded scars from her life before speckled her hands from accidents before she was fully competent in the kitchen. "I want to say that I am here to make people's lives better but have I really? Have I really done any good when I can't even give the kingdom an heir?"

The first pangs hit her in the afternoon. She had been going over things with Prudence for the baby shower when she halted mid-sentence. "Give me a moment." She pressed a hand to the side of her little bump, taking a deep breath to steady herself. "Ah!" Another pain struck causing her to bend forward. "Get the docot- ah!!"

"HENRY!"

She felt something trickle down her thighs and her face drained of color. It was too soon. She was only five months along! "No... no!" Not caring who might see she lifted her skirts amidst the pain and pressed a hand between her legs as she saw the red drip down into her shoes. She didn't want to believe it but her hand came back with the evidence clear as day. She stumbled out of the room, knocking into a hall table. The sound of glass breaking never registered with her as she pressed her bloody hand to her belly. "Save my baby!"

so, can daenerys conceive? my answer is yes. however, conception may come with some difficulties/complications because . . . who knows what effectS the blood magic mirri performed has on dany's reproductive system, especially since it's not valyrian sorcery? but, daenerys does not believe that she can conceive due to her own feelings surrounding herself regarding rhaego, and her willingness to believe mirri as a form of coping. should she become pregnant, she will have a difficult time fully believing it at first, even if the signs are all there, because she remembers how it rended her very soul to lose rhaego after loving him so deeply; she simply can't allow herself to have that hope, even though she longs to be a mother.

depending on how one interprets it, she conceives a child with daario ( i prefer to think of the baby being daario's and not hizdahr's, particularly because daario is the man dany chooses for herself, for her heart. ) in adwd and suffers a miscarriage out on the dothraki sea:

By midday the water would be tepid, but in the chill of dawn it was almost cool and helped her keep her eyes open. As she splashed her face, she saw fresh blood on her thighs. The ragged hem of her undertunic was stained with it. The sight of so much red frightened her. Moon blood, it’s only my moon blood, but she did not remember ever having such a heavy flow. Could it be the water? If it was the water, she was doomed. She had to drink or die of thirst. - daenerys 10, adwd.

seeing so much blood frightens her because it is completely abnormal for her usual menstrual cycle. she's never experienced something so heavy. the thought of a miscarriage doesn't even cross her mind. she's thoroughly convinced by both herself and mirri that she cannot have children.

this aside, if we are to believe mirri's omen, i believe that, in a metaphorical sense, it is complete. it is through:

in adwd alone, we watch as the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, represented by quentyn martell, a young lord whose sigil is the sun, who is born/rises/comes from the west to die/fall/set in the east. we see the dothraki sea, a literal sea of grass, which was a beautiful green when daenerys first explored it in agot, go dry. what the mountains blowing in the wind like leaves means? now, this is something that i don't believe we have insight into yet. the more i think about this prophecy/omen, the more it seems to have to do with things dany has encountered, so i am going to chalk this up to something happening to the mother of mountains . . . something that sets up why every single khalasar is on its way to/is in vaes dothrak prior to the unification ( still working on this ). and, her womb does quicken again, at least, in my interpretation.

it is right after we learn of this miscarriage that in just a few pages, we see that khal jhaqo, a former member of drogo's ko, discover her standing beside drogon, who returned to her in meereen. i believe that we have a couple of things working together here. first, we have khal jhaqo, who had been one of khal drogo’s most trusted friends, who also took a large portion of drogo’s khalasar, discovering dany as she stands beside the dragon she named for her late husband, who most certainly has drogo's spirit ( represented in the fact that drogon's egg is place by drogo's heart during the pyre burning ). it's interesting that drogon waits with daenerys, especially since he's been quite unruly, refusing to listen to her ( for reasons of forcing her personal development and recognition of herself to drive forth prophecy ).

this prophecy is being undone, and her rebirth and rise after the birth of her dragons contributes to it because it is through the birth of her dragons and the strength/direction she gains through them, that she has been led to all of the moments described in mirri maz duur’s prophecy as being impossible.

this is so long, but ultimately, yes, i believe daenerys can conceive, but it is an incredibly delicate matter, as, even though she is favored by valyrian sorcery ( at her birth as tptwp and in her continued honoring of it and her dragons ), her reproductive system has been affected, in some way, by mirri's magic ( magic that had the intent to stifle prophecy ). and, if she wants to build her house, as she is destined to, she must always remember who she is ( by continuing to honor valyrian magic/sorcery and her dragons ), which, the whole stranded on the dothraki sea moment cements inside of her. she must do what her ancestors failed to do. additionally, i feel like there will have to be some magical aspect that accompanies any future pregnancies, even if it's just having someone with magical abilities/knowledge to care for her, or if it's just as simple as engaging in magical thought/intent/or will during conception, being near the dragons, or spending most of her time on dragonstone during her pregnancy. rhaego's conception was guided by magical instinct; the birthing of the dragons followed magical instinct; her future pregnancies must follow a similar pattern.

The moment he saw his wife covered in blood and shaking Kit's heart stopped.

"Ella..." He moved towards her, trying to decern where the blood was coming from. Panic set in, was she hurt, what had happened?

Rushing to her, Kit searched her face for any sign of pain, but all he found was the blank expression of shock.

"Let's sit down, it's going to be okay," Kit said supporting his wife as he motioned to a shocked servant to go get help.

She needed to find him. To find Kit. Even as she stumbled through the halls, her legs giving out a few times, she knew she had to find him. She had been sleeping, resting as the doctor had prescribed for her since the beginning of her pregnancy, when she felt the first twinge of pain hit her. The second one had her panicked. When she pulled the sheet back she screamed in horror. Blood pooled between her legs and onto the blankets.

Her mind fevered with what it meant, and when she found Kit her body collided with the floor. “Kit...” She sobbed. “Our baby...” She clung to his embrace, wishing that it wasn’t true. “Our baby!”
