As a child, after her parents passed away, Ella endured a lot of physical abuse from her stepfamily. She was told it was the only way to make sure she stayed in line. If she didn't finish a task on time or to her stepmother's approval she would be beaten and sent to bed without supper. If she was caught trying to eat just scraps she would be beaten again.

She did try running away one time and was brought back. The reason her stepmother kept her around was because she was ( mostly ) free labor. As long as she was fed, clothed, and had a bed she figured it was payment enough to serve them. For her disobedience, she was nearly choked to death by her stepmother.

She doesn't like showing her skin much, especially her back as that is where the majority of her scaring is, and the day she marries she is terrified of her spouse seeing the scars. She knows she is a broken person and knows that her spouse might be repulsed by what they might see. So she wears nightgowns that cover her well until her spouse makes her comfortable enough in her body.

In AUs where she marries well ( whether modern or fantasy/era ) she is still ridiculed and has been poisoned ( or in the case of @farspirit's and my AU, kidnapped ) a time or two because others don't see her as a worthy partner to her spouse.

Because of the beatings she's endured, she does have issues keeping her pregnancies and the miscarriages she endures put her into a depression for a time.

Through it all, though, she will still smile at you and help you.

So, I was sure I had a headcanon on Ella's abilities to hear animals talk but couldn't find it. So, without further ado:

In every movie, she can communicate with animals, but only mice we hear talk back. She can understand the birds though despite us never hearing them speak human words. To that extent, she's able to hear fairies talk. Especially since her godmother is a fairy after all!

Anonymous dreamed: Is Ella ticklish?

Growing up, she was very ticklish. Her mother and father tickled her often with kisses and hugs nd just to make her laugh. She saw it as a form of love.

As a maid, she no longer had touch as a love language, which is why, when she married, it was a very big deal to her. A gentle touch of hands, a brush of shoulders, a kiss to the cheek, just to show the other cares. When she went to the ball it was the first time another being had ever touched her since the death of her father. The hug she gave her fairy godmother and then to dance with the prince. The hug she barely registered, as she was ever so grateful for the chance for fun. But being in the arms of another for longer than a second woke up that deep-rooted need for touch again.

When she married she realized she was touch-starved. She craved her husband's embrace but being tickled was... almost off-limits somehow. Like it was too intimate? It meant letting down walls she didn't realize she had up. After some time though, after finding she could trust her husband, she became playful with him. Showed him her ticklish spots that only she allowed to indulge in.

The back of her neck, behind her ears, her palms, arches of her feet, the small of her back when naked, and the sides of her breasts whether naked or clothed. They all also happen to be erogenous zones for her too, hence why only her husband is allowed to touch.
