♕~Change of plans.
Savanna stared at the man in front of her like she was trying to get a read on him. Why didn’t Victoria tell them about him if he was just a friend? “No…” The little girl spoke when Caine said she already had a dad. “I don’t have’a daddy anymore.” She still didn’t fully understand death or how her father died, but Savvy knew David was gone and that her memories of him were fading fast. Soon she wouldn’t remember him at all.
“I didn’t drive here...Grandpa did.” The little brunette explained. She wouldn’t even look at Victoria because she was so upset she had been lied to. Footsteps in the hallway signaled that Ted, Dora, and Timmy were on their way. Savvy had been gone a while. It shouldn’t have taken her this much time to grab a stuffed animal and meet them back at the car. Whatever real plans Vic and Caine had for the night were now interrupted by some unexpected visitors. “Who are you?” Timmy asked in a timid voice when he spotted the stranger kneeling down beside his little sister. Like Savanna, he guessed it was the person their mother spent so much time on the phone with. “This is mama’s friend…” Savvy introduced. She used Timmy as a diversion to make a quick exit to her bedroom.
“I-uh-” Vic said as she ran her fingers through her hair. She wasn’t sure which issue she should tackle first. She knew it was only a matter of time before all of this blew up in her face and now she was faced with two upset children, puzzled parents, and a boyfriend she couldn’t even introduce as her boyfriend. “If you want to stay for dinner, I made plenty.” Victoria knew her parents had questions. She knew her kids had questions too, but clearing the air wasn’t going to happen over dinner. The situation was complicated.
“Thank you for the invite but we don’t want to interrupt.”Dora finally broke the awkward silence. Timmy was still standing in front of Caine waiting for answers, while loud banging came from the back bedroom that could only mean one of two things...Savvy was destroying the place, or she was barricading herself in. Victoria didn’t allow locks on the children’s bedroom door because she knew Savvy would try and lock Timmy out or vise versa. “Gramma, I wanna’ stay.” Timmy frowned. He didn’t see why they couldn’t, especially since Victoria wasn’t working after all. “I don’t wanna’ go to your house t’night. I wanna stay home.” He admitted knowing Savvy would feel the same way. Timmy turned to look at Caine, then Victoria. “Please let us stay? This is our house too.” He gave them his best version of a pout but he knew Savvy sold it better. “I don’t wanna’ keep sleepin’ at other people’s houses.” Like twisting the knife Vic felt in her gut. She gave Caine an apologetic look because she knew she couldn’t send her kids back to their grandparent’s house. Not now. “We’ve got it from here. Thanks.” Victoria said to her parents as they headed for the door.

“Timmy, why don’t you set the table for me and then go get your sister?” Victoria asked her son as she kissed the top of his crown. She needed to distract him so she could talk to Caine privately. “Ok.” The little boy replied. He wasn’t one to ever turn down a job when Vic asked. Even one as simple as setting the table for dinner.
“Don’t say anything to them about...us.” The brunette spoke in a hushed tone. “The only thing they need to know is you’re a friend.” Victoria still didnt’ know how she was going to dig herself out of the hole she dug when she lied to them, but the last thing she wanted to do was cover a lie with another lie. Even if she was doing it to protect them.
“Savvy?” Timmy knocked on the bedroom door. That was their rule. If the door was closed, they had to knock and wait for a response before entering, only Savvy didn’t answer. “Savanna?” The little boy called again. Still nothing, so he cracked the door and announced he was coming in. “Mommy said it’s time for dinner.” He found his sister sprawled out on the floor with a box full of crayons and markers spilled out and paper everywhere. Savanna wasn’t the type to talk about what was bothering her. She bottled it up and shut people out. She was a lot like Victoria that way. Drawing was her creative outlet. She drew her feelings since she didn’t know how to vocalize them. “Mommy an’ her friend are gonna’ let us stay?” Savvy asked as she put the cap back on her marker. Timmy nodded. “Gramma an’ grandpa went home.” He confirmed before the two of them headed to the kitchen where Caine sat patiently waiting to help with something.
“Are you an’ mommy havin’ a sleepover?” Timothy questioned innocently. “Is that why Savvy and me were supposed’ta sleep at gramma an’ grandpa’s house?” The little boy picked up his fork to take a bite of his dinner. He was unintentionally interrogating Caine. A job that was usually left up to Savvy, but she was so busy pushing food around on her plate to make it look like she ate, all she could do was listen.
