Sabé groaned as she felt a cold little body wriggle under her arm and cuddle into her side.

Cracking open an eye, Sabé smiled and pulled her daughter close.

"'Morning, Sweet girl."

"I can't see how," Sabé said as she looked over the tiny dwelling that Kenobi called home on Tatooine.

"I've lived in nicer conditions here on Tatooine when I was undercover, and you still haven't answered my question, what are you doing here?"

“This is embarrassing. You shouldnt have to see me like this.” Her body was contorted in a way that made the labor pains a little less intense on her lower back. She had no idea why this moment was what made her feel embarrassed to have Sabè by her side. They had been through every possible situation under the sun together. They had seen each other through every up and down life could throw at them. @arandomnerdsrp358

"I've seen worse." Sabé reassured as she clutched Padmé's hand in hers.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere but here with you." They had been together in some form since they were fourteen, she the queen her a handmaiden. But they were so much more than that now.

"You're stuck with me."

Leia had felt like she was drifting in a fog ever since her parents and her entire planet had perished. Her entire being hurt and she just wanted to be put out of this misery.

"Sh, you don't mean that." Those few days fearing that Leia was dead had been some of the worst days of Sabé's life.

If she lost Leia Sabé would be completely lost, she'd have nothing just like she'd had nothing when Padmé died.

"I know that it hurts, believe me, Sweet Girl, I know. But you are Alderaan now. You are the hope of your people. You can't give up. We need you, Leia."

Leia enveloped Sabè in a bear hug.

“I missed you! Where did you go?”

Sabé had never hugged Leia so tight. She hadn't wanted to leave Alderaan, but with the death of her father, her brothers had kind of insisted she come home without delay.

Queen Breha had also insisted that she stay as long as it took for her father's affairs to be settled, therefore Sabé had been away from her post for a month.

She had spent that month visiting her friends, helping her brothers settle their father's estate, and visiting Padmé's tomb in between.

"I missed you too, I had to go home for a little while, but I'm back. I promise."

"If they hadn't, I wouldn't have been so good at my job." Sabé said with a tiny smirk. She could see so much of Padmé in Leia. They both had the same fire in their warm brown eyes. It did the former handmaiden's heart good.

"My duty has always been to blend into the shadows, to go unnoticed... it kept people safe, I prefer it this way."

At this point Sabé was convinced being attracted to reckless idiots was genetic. Mara's little speech reminded her so much of Padmé it made her heart ache.

"Fine. I'm coming with you though, you want to take on this fight you'll need backup."

"Romantic is not the word I'd use for it." Sabé said. She knew she and Tonra had... something going on. It wasn't love, Sabé knew what that felt like. But she trusted Tonra as much as she trusted Padmé or one of her fellow handmaidens.

"He's a good man, I don't dislike him. But I don't know if he's a part of my future in that way."

Sabé wished with all her heart that she could ease some of Padmé's stress.

Being a senator was a world apart from being queen. And while it was all new and confusing, only Padmé could find her footing Sabé couldn't step in unless absolutely necessary.

"There always is, but you'll figure it out, I have faith in you."

At first, Sabé didn't understand what the togruta was talking about, but after thinking about it a moment it clicked.

From the time she was fourteen years old she had always valued just how similar she looked to Padmé, it made her the best at the job of decoy. It had saved her planet, and kept her best friend safe.

But now, it just broke Sabé's heart.

The young togruta had to know Padmé somehow, which wasn't a stretch, Padmé had touched so many lives. But now that she was gone, the togruta clearly thought that Sabé was Padmé's ghost.

"Trust me, I wish I was in Padmé's place. My name is Sabé."

"I gave my heart away long ago," Sabé said. This was not the result of that particular disaster of that Sabé was certain.

"You can't blame me for everything, Sweet Girl."

"That's what I thought." No matter how big Leia got, she would always be the sweet little girl Sabé had loved as if she were her own.

"You should know better than to say something like that in front of me, Sweet Girl."

Sabé reached out and took Padmé's hand. Squeezing it gently, Padmé was usually so strong, but she was still human.

"Don't despair, my lady, hope is not yet lost."

Leia pulled on the skirt of her mothers dress. They had finally arrived home from her mothers induction to her new role as supreme chancellor.

Padmé had stayed behind. Tomorrow, the real work as chancellor began, but it was late, so she insisted that Sabé take the twins home and put them to bed.

Leia's question made Sabé smile. Today had been long and confusing, kneeling down in front of Leia Sabé pulled her daughter in for a hug.

"You did so well, I'm so proud of you. It's been a long day. Let's get ready for bed, okay?"

Sabé smiled and took the brush and ribbons from Leia's hands, this was a common request from her princess, and honestly braiding Leia's hair, was relaxing and reminded the handmaiden of braiding Padmé's hair all those years ago.

"Of course, now sit still."
