@kastadarias - Would you really have gotten in a fight for me?
THE YOUNG KING GIVES PAUSE , as if the question confuses him. he's so hard to read these days. seeming so distant from the world. perhaps that has something to do with it. his melancholy keeping him from showing jahaera how much she really does mean to him. perhaps more than she could know. the two of them shared a wound from the same sword of familial civil war. trying so desperately to recover from wound they may never truly heal from. ' i would , ' it's not enough. he knows it. it's evident in the sigh from the king. ' i am ... sorry , if my solemnness suggests i would not stand for you as your husband. ' it's small , and comes as quickly as it came , but a small smirk graces his lips.

her assessment of herself saddened him. the only reason she saw herself in such a way , was due to the fact that the mere thought of existing to not interest him in the slightest. no wonder she didn't think he saw anything worth value in her. he couldn't see value in much of anything these days. but that was to no fault of her. if anything , jahaera had been a saint in all of this. he couldn't thank her enough. only frustration that he couldn't find the right words to thank her for all that she had done for him.
it was tentative , uncomfortable even in the way the king moved , but a hand lifted to gently hold hers in his hand. soft skin making contact with his hand. he hated that he could not seem to find happiness in this world. that he couldn't even bring himself to try. he wanted to , but what was the point? when he still found himself trapped in that war that happened all those years ago. ' i should like to have some more of your company jahaera. or ... i , i would like to try. '
"I know I am not the most attentive wife." she had always been aware that he liked his space and his quietness. he looked more to the stars in melancholy than to her and she did the same in turn. far too young when they were wed, it gave the realm a bit of peace and respite but she finds herself aware that now, grown and with years upon them, there are things that have to be discussed. the maesters had told her years from now that she would be able to carry children like her mother had to full term if she and the king bedded but she could not impose it on him.
his words reassure her, a timid smile on the queen's lips as she nods. "I would not be upset if you would. the realm needs an heir. and perhaps I remind you of. . .less peaceful times." but somehow she found a grace in his companionship. he understood her pain like she did his own. put on a throne to end a war, at the cost of their family. they tell them that the war ended but in her dreams, the war never stopped. "I am glad you will not. I enjoy your company. I wish to experience it more."

THE KING HADN'T BEEN THE SAME SINCE THE DANCE. more specifically , since that day. that day he wouldn't speak upon. like he was afraid of that day in history. there was no telling what sort of man he would have been had his mother not met that ill fate. he never held that against jahaera. he never could. it was this whole place that reminded him of the pursuit his mother had gone on that ended in her gruesome death. all because his grandfather's word could not be honored. it all left this grand castle to feel like nothing but a tomb. it was in this tomb that he mourned the relationship he and his queen never got to have. had things been different , perhaps he wouldn't look upon her , and feel such guilt. he loved her. as much as he could love anyone with such a large piece of his heart missing since that day. he tried. but it wasn't enough. her question gives the young king pause. a furrow of his brow upon thinking of a time that she would not be there. that some familiarity that he had indeed come to love would be gone. ' you've done nothing to make me want such a thing. ' the next words that follow give him further pause. affection now so unfamiliar to him. ' i could not replace you if i tried. '
Their marriage had not been ideal. she had spent her early childhood believing she would find a suitable husband one day and the other knowing that husband would be her brother, per tradition. and then he was murdered, and the war left them both with scars and grief and they sat on a throne neither of them wanted. she would not blame him if he had no love or care for her beyond what should be her wifely duties. "i do think your solemness makes me question it. but I am glad to be proven wrong." if she could only be able to make him smile more. some days she does not think she could make him happy as a wife. or a queen. "so you would not take another as wife and queen? i heard some say you would." ill rumors, she been told. but she had failed to be that much of a queen. at her age by now her mother had children, and so did her grandmother, even his mother. not that they shared much of a bed. "that pleases me, that you would not seek to replace me."
