What an odd way to lead a conversation. The Cavalry Captain quirked a brow as Ajax moved back into the kitchen momentarily, soon reappearing with a lovely homemade cake that permeated their home with that delicious, sweet scent. It was clearly baked and decorated with so much love, that alone already had Kaeya feeling rather emotional.

However, he didn’t expect his beloved star to wish him a happy birthday in Khaenri’ahn.

His mouth was agape as his eyes widened, all pretenses, façades, and masks were immediately shattered, all at once. Where once stood the illustrious and charismatic Cavalry Captain was now a glimpse of the vulnerable, timid boy he once was before he was displaced from his home. His home that was destroyed and lost to time; his home and everything related to it that were now considered taboo subjects.

And yet, here Ajax was. This wonderful, amazing, incredible man that loved him with their entire heart and soul, was speaking in his native tongue that was now confined within old tomes and texts, and its only speakers were the dead nation’s sinners. Until now, at least.

The Khaenri’ahn’s eyes welled over as his lower lip quivered and his expression shifted to one of tender heartbreak. “Ajax,” he began, his tone heavy with unshed tears, “Mare dilectum meum, cor meum, anima mea. Gratias. Ab imo cor gratias.

“Hmm?”

A soft, inquisitive hum would leave Kaeya as he continued to rest in bed, much too comfortable to get up quite yet. As his beloved peppers kisses upon his face, a gentle smile would pull at his lips as he happily accepts the onslaught from his fiancé. “Plans…?” he asked, his voice still hoarse and ladened with sleepiness as he continued to process what Ajax was saying.

Why did he have plans for today, especially to spoil him?

Blinking, he shifted in the bed a bit to look over his shoulder towards the calendar, wondering if today was special. Huh.

Turning his head to gaze at his Ajax, his brows would furrow upwards as an enamored smile pulled at his lips, happily returning the kiss placed upon them. It’s been so long since someone has put in so much effort for his birthday. It made him feel rather sheepish, but if he’s to enjoy his birthday, then he’s beyond joyful it’s with his future husband.
