" come on ! its a beautiful night . . " lumine was several steps ahead of the captain as she trudged up the hill at speed. she'd returned from natlan a few days ago but had scant been seen for three of the four she'd been back , yet suddenly ( though unsurprisingly ) she'd shown up back in the blunette's life with a smile as the sun begun to set and practically dragged him out the door of his office.

then , she had guided him with just wait, its a secret ! more than once as she led the way. once atop the hill she gestures with enthusiasm toward the picnic that she had set up upon a blanket which thankfully hadn't been ravaged by any animals and left alone ( she'd asked razor for some assistance in that regard ) at all. " i thought better to drag you into some ridiculous affair with throes of people and . . it felt nice to just have something with just the two of us ? "

truthfully she's exhausted. burned out from abyss this abyss that within natlan that she was relieved that she could take the time to come see him on his birthday. that she could breathe without having to postpone all of this without bleeding from her nose and ruin the moment. as she practically pulls him to sit down she giggles , both hands offering a little box toward him after pouring something lite for him to sip on.

she winks , sticking her tongue out at him ; " stars , its not another ring i swear it , " she laughs , still holding the gift out to him from where she sat upon the blanket. once taken she shifts onto her knees to watch him open the little gift ; inside a little golden star lapel pin within a larger eight point khaenri'ahn star atop a note that had written ;

' sometimes hope can be found in the heavens, when you least expect it simply look up and believe the shackles of fate cannot chain you forever. look to the sky and simply breathe. '

kaeya , upon looking up after the note and gift would find that his moonlight would be holding a star between her hands , golden eyes peering at the small show of power she had to spare , hand raising up so that her creation may reach and breach the boundaries of the carefully crafted lie that She has created.

" ... there's a star that crosses the sky every five hundred years or so , traveling distances in search of its lover. the last time she was seen was when someone of great importance was born, " she hums , gaze still lifted toward the sky. even fake the celestial knew that fleur'r was brighter than most -- streaking across the universe with light bright enough to be seen. many worlds she'd been to had smokescreens t'ward the sky and thus she wanted to share her brightness with her beloved birthday boy.

as a chronometer somewhere within the city struck midnight she leaned back into the chest of the man that had become more than she'd ever believed to be possible ; fleur'r's light bright enough to be briefly visible against the false stars within the sky above.

" happy birthday , kaeya. " she brought his hand up that she'd been fiddling with, kissing his fingers with a content sigh , pressing her head back to steal a peck against his chin. \ IM SORRY THIS GOT LONG BUT LUMINE SAID ' there's a star that was last seen when my bf was born ok ? ok. declaring it his now '

“Yes, yes—I’m right behind you,” Kaeya’s voice rang out after Lumine’s, a light laugh pealing from him. He didn’t expect his sun to immediately come visit him after he had sent her his letter, he figured she would have been much too busy with her engagements in Natlan. Through the grapevine—or rather, his informants—he’s heard many-a-tale and more of her exploits and experiences… None of which he was happy to learn about. He worried over her, tremendously, and so it gave him great joy and immense relief that she made time to visit him once more in the Nation of Freedom.

Seeing her vividly smile, especially at him, set his heart alight. He was filled with amorous emotions for his brilliant star, and he felt nothing but honor to be the one at the receiving end of her affection.

As the two reached the peak of the hill, he felt the breath leave him at the sight of a lovely picnic, thoughtfully put together by Lumine. He was still taking it all in when she grabbed his hand and pulled him to sit down, a sound of surprise escaping him from the sudden movement. Chuckling along with her giggles, he took his place upon the blanket, trying not to feel overwhelmed by all of this attention she was affording him. He doesn’t think he’s had such a well thought out birthday surprise in what felt like many years ago now. To him, at least.

Kaeya took a sip of the drink she personally poured for him, smiling in delight at the refreshing feeling. However, he did take pause and gave her a wary look as she held a small box out to him. He’s had one heart attack too many with the last gift she offered him, so he cannot be blamed for being just a little cautious. Lumine assured him it was not a ring, however, and so he seemed to relax once more. “Sometimes I never know with you, my love. I cannot be faulted for being at least a little worried,” he quipped, laughing lightly.

Opening the gift after given some gentle encouragement, his brows rose at the sight of a beautifully crafted lapel pin of his home’s star. Carefully lifting it, he held the pin by its backing between two fingers as he looked over the attention to detail, his expression softening considerably. It was only after taking out the pin that he noticed the small note, taking his time to slowly read it over at least twice, ingraining it within his memory.

His gaze rose and met the star that was held within his heart’s hands, his countenance nothing short of awe while he watched it ascend past the façade of the heavens.

When Lumine began to speak once more, his attention returned upon her, gently placing the pin back into its box before placing it off to the side for now. His arms enveloped her and brought her into a warm embrace, his hold tightening a tad as she leaned back against him. His eyes momentarily shut as he willed this moment to last forever, engraved into his very soul for this life and all the rest to cherish until the end of time.
