They always said to never meet your heroes, and maybe for some people that was the case. But the moment that Bret had sat down in the seat of her car he had become a friend and the half lycan was incredibly happy about that. It was so hard for her to even think of letting someone say more than a few words to her, to engage in small conversation that didn't make her want to rip her own hair out. Yet with him the words seemed to flow without trouble and the kindness she was showing him was real. Since she had left Boston it had been the solo act for her, all lone wolf without a care in the world. But when she was alone in catering or in the hotel room at night it started to eat at her. Not at first, she was so exhausted from all the running around that the peace was welcomed. Now that she was used to it and had learned her way the silence grew too loud for her own good, the voice of the wolf in her head constantly telling her just how wrong she was. Bret's voice was breaking through all of that, a quiet way of saying hey I get it and you aren't alone any longer. So while he might still be a hero for the child she no longer was, he was a friend for the adult she had become.
She noticed how he smiled, it wasn't like the ones flashed for the cameras or for the fans. It must be the real smile that he saved for those who were special to him and it became a memory she was going to cherish for the rest of her life. Not wanting to ruin the moment like she usually did Kyleigh remained quiet, the soft sounds of the heat blasting against them mixing with the cold air against the windows. It was pretty nice actually, to slow down and forget that the world was right out there. Just two people enjoying a polite conversation now that work was done for the day. If that were the case she might have even asked him if he wanted to grab a beer, but she didn't even know if that was his thing or if he even would want to speak to her after this. She hoped he did, though given the nature of the business she wouldn't be too surprised if that never came to be.
"And here I used to think that was all just for show. Kids, we don't really understand just how hard and deep it all runs. We're there for the flashing lights and the belts, but as we get older we learn that you're all very real people with families and bosses that you have to answer to. I mean I haven't met McMahon personally or anything, but I have heard some things backstage and I'm not in any kind of rush to have it happen." Actually Kyleigh had heard a lot of stuff about a lot of people while working but she never paid much attention to it. Not her business and since none of those people were signing her paychecks then it didn't mean shit to her. Hearing what Bret said about their boss and how he treated their family did get the anger to rise inside her, that need to protect flooding her senses. All of them in fact, to make sure no one hurt them again or even thought about doing so.
Thankfully that feeling was quickly calmed when Bret's offer to be apart of his family hit her ears. What? Was this for real? How did he know she was just thinking the same thing?! Well not literally but something similar to it. The first man to genuinely offer her a family and their protection since joining the company. "Well I can safely say that so far none of the other talent has said anything like that to me. I mean maybe they don't notice us workers or something, but it's been pretty calm. Now a few of the guys have had their remarks, asking me if I was someone else's new girl or something which I kind of expected. I'm younger and I don't fawn over any of the boys when they walk by. I will let you know if anyone does and I absolutely accept the offer! That's so kind of you Bret, thank you for making me feel welcome here when no one else has." Eyes glancing out towards the new set of headlights that pulled into the lot Kyleigh let out a sigh and nodded. "Oh, if you do need anything else you know where to find me. Cars, wrestling, or just someone to talk with. I'm always around."

Grimacing a bit as she watched poor Bret try to make himself comfortable in the front seat, Kyleigh figured that since they wouldn't be driving she could slide the front seat back more for him. Yes she was that short that she had to move it almost on top of the steering wheel, but thankfully since the car was older the entire front seat could be moved with just a slide of a knob. True she could have put a more modern interior in the old ride, but both her and her uncle felt like that would have taken away from the car's true nature and honestly she never imagined that anyone else would be in it. She was a lone wolf after all, the only companion she ever had in that seat was food or her bag after work. She couldn't help but wonder what the others would say if they saw her now. The weird girl from the back sucking up to the talent in order to get a better job or more money. Which was far from the case. She just saw someone in need and acted, not her fault it just so happened to be one of the most infamous stars in the company. The crack of the bones in Bret's back brought her out of her thoughts, glancing over to see him take a few moments to rest his head back. She couldn't even begin to imagine how much pain these men were in most nights, throwing their bodies around like that, laughing death in it's face. One of the many reasons she had decided a very long time ago that she would never be able to do what they did, even though it was so fun to watch.
Just so curious about one of her favorite performers her gaze stayed on him, wondering what he was thinking about. Maybe his next match? The feud he currently had going on? Or was he just ready to call it a night? There were always rumors about what went on when all the fans left and the lights went out. Kyleigh chose not to believe them, it wasn't any of her business what anyone did in their private lives. The ring rats that hung around the arenas and tour buses seemed to know, and while she would never judge them for what they did she often found herself feeling sad for them. Didn't they know that a lot of these guys had girlfriends or wives at home? Were the children and families left behind just after thoughts? Hell she had a million questions she could ask in that moment, a feeling that Bret would have been honest with her about them but she just didn't have the heart to disturb his peace. So instead she simply tore her gaze from him and looked out into the dark night. Her most favorite time of the day, the lycan inside itching for a good run in the woods though she was miles away from the nearest forest. She could make it there and back before the sun rose the next morning, but with her room already paid for all Kyleigh had to look forward to was some cold pizza and whatever was on the free television channels.
She couldn't find a reason for it but his voice sounded different in the small space of the front seat. Of course her brain told her it was because there was no mic in his hand, no screams to shout over. But her heart said it was because he was right there in front of her, a man she had watched for so long was within physical reach. "Alright Bret, I think I can manage that." Really he was only a few years older than her now, so it wouldn't be so weird to call him by his name. It was done out of respect and maybe a little bit of fear that he would be offended should she be familiar with him. A little piece of heart broke hearing him speak of the business the way he was, but it wasn't as if he was lying. She had seen the differences take place over the years, grown enough now to realize that not everything was as it seemed. Bret had a real reason to have distaste for the Americans, after all the things they had done to him and his family. Ever the gentleman asking about how she was being treated she smiled softly, a light flush covering her face. "Well I can't speak for everyone Bret, but I have no complaints so far. Granted I haven't been here that long, a few months now, but once the weird looks and the snarky comments were over I think I was accepted. I get it though, about ninety eight percent of the backstage crew are men so it's a little weird for them to have a female there. Especially one my age."
Luckily for the half lycan she had grown up around males, finding it easier to be friends with them than females. So the inappropriate comments, the whistles, and the offending sounds really didn't bother her. Though she had been asked a time or two if she was so-and-so's new girlfriend, which was quite funny to her. The question of who her favorite had been caused her to go silent for a moment, not believing that she was about to say it out loud. Right in front of him. "Yeah this is going to sound so corny, but I definitely always get excited seeing you come out. I mean your whole family too, I just liked the idea of it you know? That you guys stuck together and were always there for each other." At the time she just thought it was so neat since her own family had done the same for her when her parents perished. But now she knew there was a deeper meaning behind it. The Harts were a pack in wolf terms, one that her own had yearned for from the moment she knew what the word was.
