      that was the question, wasn’t it? the only logical explanation as to why wanda would act out like this. she certainly didn’t snap because she was dealt the worst possible hand at life. losing the man she loved, losing her children, losing absolutely everyone, having no one left on earth who cared for her. what was the point? 

      “nothing,” wanda replied, the bright red light from her hands lighting up the room she was in. the room around them, in shambles; bodies burned, disappeared, erased from existence. strange was off somewhere. she wondered if eliza thought that she was a part of this destruction, not the one who caused it. she wondered if it mattered.

      “strange has something i want,” she said simply, her voice shaking with emotion. the darkhold took her emotions through the ringer, she couldn’t remember the last time she didn’t have tears in her eyes. “i want it back. will you help me?”

       "you know, a lot of people say that,” wanda replied, her voice sounding as heavy as she felt. it was a nice thing to think, but at the same time, she felt like it wasn’t true. how many people had she hurt, accidentally and on purpose, to get what she wanted? “but aren’t we defined by the choices that we make?”

          “of course it is,” wanda replied with a soft smile. when she had said yes to the date, she had told kara that she’ll do whatever she wanted, whatever she had planned. she trusted her, and wanda was just happy to be going on a date with her. she felt butterflies in her chest and it was a warm, welcome feeling. “i told you i’ll do whatever. what time do you wanna leave?”

          wanda was used to other people’s magic being used against her, so this was a welcome change. she reads the words, and she’s vaguely reminded of runes. she wants to argue, say no i don’t, or something to that length, but she’s tired and hasn’t been shown kindness from anyone for the longest time. not since her family, not since they disappeared and she was left all alone again. “thank you,” she says instead, turning her head towards the other, offering a genuine, small smile. “for saying that. thank you.”

           "you know sometimes i do think that. but something i wonder if i could’ve done more.” the curse of being a “hero”, she guessed. she had blamed herself for what happened in lagos, and everything that happened after that. everything with thanos, with westview. an endless catalyst of suffering at her hands. she wasn’t sure she’d ever forgive herself for it. “guilt is a part of life, i suppose.”

         "mmm,” wanda replied, more of a huff of disbelief than any kind of real response. she wondered if she did deserve it. if she’s dealt this hand because of all she’s done, all those she’s hurt. for years, that’s been her legacy. back when she was in the avengers, back when she was an experiment, and even now, she made decisions that got people killed. did a hero truly deserve that? was she given what she deserved?

                   “yeah,” is all she says after that. “thanks.”

                                 but if you ask her, she’ll say, no i don’t.
