you're Gareth's.... WHAT?!?
★ EDDIE MUNSON'S MASTERLIST ★
 AGATHA'S MAIN PAGE ❣
summary : Eddie is furious seeing you with someone else after you told him, he's the first ever guy that you became friends with.... surprise at the end! 🤫
warnings : 18+ Eddie Munson x FEM!reader, language, reader and Eddie are both 20, Gareth is 18, use of y/n, Eddie will might be so mean to reader but she doesn't mind it lmao, a very fun mini fic hehe
what to expect : angst at first and fluff at the end 🤭 some comedy parts as well
note to reader : I think I'm just gonna focus more on my mini fics as for now hahaha I really need to finish my degree or else it would finish me 🥲
author note : help- can you imagine Eddie being absolutely an asshole to you for completely misunderstood the situation and you're just like 😂
------------------------------------
"Oh, it's you again" you say as you fixed the music tapes on the table
A mischievous smile is sitting on his face as he says "Aww- you're not happy to see me?"
"I'm working, Eddie" you replied as you directly look on to his eyes
You move over aside to arrange the vinyls alphabetically, he followed you
You shake your head to his mannerisms but a fond smile is now on your face
"Come on, Y/N- can we hang out later?" He begs with that "you can't say no" freaking eyes are now staring at you
You sigh "Alright, fine- Eddie- baby" you tease as you pinch his cheeks
Eddie suddenly felt this hot raging fire on his whole body at that moment
You left him on the aisle, giggling to yourself after you saw him, frozen dead cold on the same spot- he can't move
He always liked you but he never dares to try ruin his first friendship with a girl
You always liked him too- despite his facade persona to scare away bullies, he is one of a kind, heart of gold guy you've ever met
He met you in the same place, the place that you work, the only record store in Hawkins, Indiana
You moved last year and ever since he laid his eyes you- he knew that you're the one
He can't believe that you accepted him as a friend- at first he'll thought you'd be so rude to him because of his appearance and of course he always got his insecurities get the best of him- he thought you're too good for him
Way out of his league
But after he learned about your personality and you've never looked at him in the eyes of judgement and you always speak with so much honesty whenever you talk to him
He felt safe and he can fully trust you
He never expected that you and him will be friends, they way you both clicked- he thought he was just dreaming
Still, it's unbelievable to him that he's the first ever guy that you ever had as a friend
"Dumb pricks" he said to himself
Eddie followed you everywhere you go while you're work- sometimes he is absolutely so insufferable but most of the time? You don't mind it
Maybe being steady or keep calm don't exist on his system whenever you're around
He is always and never did once stayed away from your sleeve
It's so silly but so cute at the same time
When you feel worried, mad, frustrated, sad, he's just right there for you and you'll do the same thing with him
He's just.... the best
You approach him with a sweet smile "Eddie, come on" you reach for his hand, you tug him with you as he automatically intertwined his hold with you
You both went to the backdoor, you gave him a wrapped up present
He furrow his brows at you, instantly observing the thing that you just gave him
"No tricks?" He inspects the entirety of it
"No tricks, this time- Ed's" you winked
He raises his eyebrows at you
"I'm serious, Eddie just open it before I lose it" your excited face falls out of annoyance
He tear the wrapper and he almost fell down as you hold him by his shoulders
"You- what?! Y/N!" He laughs happily as he covers his mouth in shock
"Shh!" You whisper-shout "it just got here yesterday, every employee gets a free vinyl- but instead I'm gonna give this one to you"
You giggled as you watch him completely haywire over the gift that you just give him
"Metallica : Master Of Puppets" Album
"Y/N, sweetheart" he utterly speechless in front of you
"You're welcome!" You smiled widely at him
He hugged you as he breathes on the crook of your neck as he held the back of your head
You melt with it
He whispers to your ear "I adore you so much, Y/N- thank you"
You hummed, he pulled back as he offers his arm to you
You both inhale the pepperoni pizza and root beer float
He gave you the last slice as he finishes his drink
He smirks "Hey, Y/N"
"Yeah?" you reply as you continue to chew
"Close your eyes" he says to you
You squint your eyes at him "Eddie- if this is a joke- I'm gonna get your ass-"
He frowns "I promise- it's not a joke!"
You roll your eyes at him
He grew frustrated "Just. Close. Your. Damn. Eyes"
You swallowed your food "Okay, fine"
You could hear him picking out of his leather jacket
"Give me your hand" he announces
You knit your brows together
"Ah! No peeking!"
You chuckled "Right, okay"
When he puts something on the palm of your hand, it almost felt like a piece of paper
"Now, open your eyes"
It is a piece of paper
You intently watch him
"Take a look" he smirks at you
Oh- gosh- you know that look
You braced yourself
The moment you see "Jim Henson's Labyrinth starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly"
You squealed in excitement as he throws his head back in laughter
You say sorry for the disturb customers but you can't help it
"Movie tickets?" You say with a gleeful smile
You noticed it's two tickets
"You bought two?" You held up the two tickets, your genuine smile still lingers
He starts to become shy and he wishes that his cheeks are not flaming red, but it does
"Uh- I bought two just in case- if- if you want someone else to come with you" he stammers as he can't hold his gaze on you
"Eddie is the only one who can make flustered look adorable" you think to yourself
Your eyes soften, you get up as he watches you go sat right next to him
"My dear Eddie- you know I don't have a lot of friends- you're coming with me!" You tap his nose
He purses his lips as he can't form the words that he wanted to say to you
You lay your head against his shoulder as he gulped- he must keep his compsure being this close to you
"Happy Friendship Anniversary, Ed's"
You already graduated and he's only got one year left to finish, so you're helping him
"So, how's the campaign?" You asked him
You know how passionate he is whenever it's about his love for his favorite game
"Fucking Awesome!" He exclaims as you laugh at his antics
He goes all the way talking about how it happened and about his new friend that he just forgot to mention his name, he just loves that you really do care about his most beloved stuff
Whenever it's about music, film or D&D- you are there present- listening to him
Eddie finished his school works nicely done, without your help- he wouldn't be able to get through this far, he will make that snatching his diploma into a reality
He can feel it, 1986 is definitely his year
He's about to tell you how his day went until he saw someone with you
His heart dropped to his stomach when he continues to watch you
Why is he feeling like this, you're not even his
Why does he feel jealous?
You hugged and kissed the guy on the cheek that he just called his new friend, few days ago
And a new found band member for Corroded Coffin
He is now regretting his decisions, he wished that guy that you're holding right now didn't exist in the first place
He's staring at him like it he was about to disintegrated into ashes
He left as soon as possible he doesn't wanna stay there for too long
You got confused every 3pm- Eddie visits you and you're both get home together when your shift is finished
You two should've been eating dinner by now
Maybe, he's just busy studying for the finals
You haven't seen or heard anything from him ever since he didn't showed up to your usual routine together
Until
"Hey!" You can finally spot him at your favorite ice cream place
When he doesn't receive your energy back at you, your face falls as you walk slowly towards him
Something in the air feels different
He doesn't even acknowledge your presence
Whatever this is, you don't take it by heart
You sat down across from him, you tried to look for his eyes but he keeps avoiding it
You already seen him get mad but... this is more than just being upset over unnecessary stuff
"Eddie? Is there something wrong?" You ask him softly
"Isn't it obvious?" He snaps at you
The moment he finally looks at you, piercing cold glare that he gives you, it shocks you
Still, you won't take this by the heart
"Eddie, you know could tell me anything? What's wrong? What is going on with you? I missed you- you didn't even called me back for days!" You reached for his hand but he moved away
You frown, you still don't understand where this is behavior coming from
"Will you just leave me alone?!?" He spits at you angrily- he stormed off
You're dumbfounded with mouthing hanging open
This is the very first time that he did this to you and you want to know why
You followed him, you reached for his arm but he yank it off
"Eddie- I'm trying to help you! What the hell is wrong with you?!?" You shout at him
He halts his tracks and turns to look back at you
He's shooting daggers at you with his glare as he walked back at you
"I don't fucking know? Maybe you should ask your boyfriend" he retorts
You crossed your arms against your chest- you laugh incredulously "Are you born yesterday? Eddie?! I don't have a boyfriend you know that!"
He scoffs "Sure, yeah, Whatever you say, Y/N- good fucking night" he left with that, leaving you alone in the streets
If things are not serious, Eddie think you're cute with that angry pout that you just did
You almost missed the sentence that he just let it falls between his lips
He's acting like this because he thought you had a boyfriend?
Oh my, my, my.... He is jealous
You went home afterwards after your weird argument with Eddie
You just had a thought that maybe... Eddie encountered your....
"Hey, Gareth" You called at him while he is resting comfortably on the sofa watching cartoons
"Yeah?" He glanced at you while devouring buttered popcorn
"Can I talk to you for a sec?"
"Yes" he got up and he switched off the TV
You remove your sling bag and you pulled your cardigan sleeves up and then heat up the chicken noodle soup that your mom prepared earlier
He sats himself in the front of the table facing you
"Okay, tell me what is it, Y/N?" He asks with a mouthful of popcorn
You rest your palms on the table leaning forward
"You're a new student right?"
"Yeah" he furrows his brows
"and you told me, you already found a new friend"
"Yeah?" He chews slowly
"you also mentioned that he wants you to become their drummer"
"Yeah?" He is so confused
"you're late for dinner few days ago because you told me that you attended an D&D campaign"
"Y-Yeah, what? Where is this leading to?" He pushes away his popcorn bowl
"Your dungeon master might've been..... Eddie Munson?" You duck your head down and slowly raising to see his reaction
"Oh! Yeah! That's right! That's him!" His eyes sparkled immediately, the moment you mentioned his name
Both of them forgot to mention of the names of the people that just they met- too excited for the fun happiness moments to spill
You rubbed your eyes using your index and your thumb finger but a smirk sitting on your face
Gareth notices it and as he says "Wait- isn't that your?-"
"My bestfriend? yeah" you shrug
He finally understands the situation "Don't tell me something happened-"
"It already did" you say with a sigh as you turn off the heat and grabbed a bowl as you pour the delicious soup that is waiting for your taste buds to devour
He laughs "So- wait- you both got into an argument because he thought I was your boyfriend?!"
You nod as you laughed at him as well
"Who's gotta tell him?" He smirks at you and you grin at him as you ruffle his hair
"I'll handle it, just pretend that you didn't know anything" you wink at him as he agrees to this little mischievous plan
You're so amused at this and you're enjoying at the thought of Eddie is absolutely so freaking possessive and jealous with you
Jeff knits his brows together at his friend
"You're been acting weird a lot lately" he says to him
"Piss off, Jeff!" He grumbles
"Woah- there, my bad" he throws his hands up in surrender
Gareth spots the two of them until he gets the chance to tell Jeff why
Both of them shared knowing looks and smirks
Jeff pushes Gareth away as he tries to run off
Eddie came back with a sandwich as he eats it with no energy, staring at the space for hours
Jeff stifled a huge fit of laugh as he watches his friend
He leans over closer to him "You seriously have no idea do you?"
Eddie stopped chewing his food as furrow his brows at his friend
An eat-shiting grin on his face "Maybe try to learn the situation first before assuming" he raises his eyebrows at his friend
He swallowed as he rolls his eyes at him, but he takes his words carefully
"Eddie!" You start banging on his front doorstep on his trailer
He standing still on the closed door as he huffed
"Christ! Eddie- I know you're in there!"
A moment of silence goes on and on
You clicked your tongue "Fine, I'll just go back home with my boyfriend" you turned around to leave
You smile to yourself and it worked- he swing the door open, almost breaking the door for open it wide- he stepped outside
Oh- shit- he is just wearing black sando and gray sweatpants, he looked good
You're only wearing a hanging blouse, denim shorts and a jacket- you hair falls so easily pretty
He never looked at you for days and he missed seeing your beautiful face
You squealed in excitement as you wrapped your arms around him
He wants to hug you so bad but pride get the best of him as he only pats your back unenthusiastically
You scoffed "What's your damage, Eddie?" you pulled back as you rest your hands on your hips
He is now missing your warmth and touch- my god- your scent is addicting
"If you're mad at me just fucking say it to my face!"
He steps forward at you as he takes a deep breath, he looks straight into your eyes
"You lied to me, you told me for the first time we've met- I was the only guy that you ever talked to or even connected genuinely, I know it's only been a year of our friendship but it felt so right and real to me"
Your eyes soften with his words until
"But that fucking guy you're with, the one that I saw- I know you don't deserved to be treated like this but I am pushing you away now before you could hurt me"
You tried to kept your cool as possible but you can't help but feel amused by this....
He really does love you isn't he?
But you want him to pour it all out for you, completely unfiltered
"Am I still your friend or not?" You bite back
"No- I don't think so" he laughs in disbelief
"Then what are we?!" You step closer
You can feel it- he is fighting back but you want him to say it
Do it, Eddie- just fucking do it
You sigh in defeat as you turn your heel around and walk away, he takes your hand
"I want us to be-" he blurted out
You squint your eyes at him "To be what?"
He shakes his head at you as he thinks to rephrase his choice of words
"I love you, Y/N!" He yells it all out the moment he can feel that your hand is slipping off from his grip
You look back his eyes are longing for you
But he frowns after his confession, he ducks his head down- he looks he's about to cry
"I understand- you got yourself a boyfriend and I'm willing to be your just-"
You're taken him aback as you pulled him by his shoulders
You kissed him, his eyes might bulging out of his skull of what you just did
He breathes heavily but finally got taken control of his system as he grabs you by the waist, you gasp as he deepens the kiss
He is the happiest man alive
You smile through the kiss and you throw your arms around him and you can tell by the way he moves his lips onto you, desperate to feel your lips onto his and to taste you
He cuts off the sweet moment as he looks at you directly and watching you closely
You tilt your head at him as finally let out laughter that has been fighting out of your mouth
He is confused but a crooked smile is growing on his lips
"What's so funny?"
You're still laughing as you moved yourself closer to him, you give him one more peck to his lips
Your laughter died down but still you're giggling
He raises both of his brows begging for an answer
"Eddie, my baby" you play with his lavish long brown hair bangs
His hands still rests on your waist, he's watching you lovingly
"Gareth is the one that you're mad at? Right?"
His forehead easily scrunches up at his name as he nod
You pursed your lips as you begin to say
"He's my cousin, Eddie"
You started to laugh again as you take in his expression of hit of moment realization
His hold you on falls as his legs starts to wobble as he takes his seat
He is still wide-eyed as he looks at you
"Are you being serious?"
"Yes, I am, Eddie"
He smirked and still feel a hint of hurt the way you played him in the most infuriating scheme ever
"You got me all feeling dumb, sweetheart, that is one of a hell tricks that you've ever done"
You bowed down at him jokingly "No worries- about the past night- I just wanted to know-"
"To know about what?"
"That you're saying the truth about your feelings" you shyly say
He smiles at you feeling relieved that he belonged to you after all of this time
You crouch down at him and this time he kissed you unexpectedly and you give it back at him
He holds your cheek and runs his thumb over it
"I love you too, Eddie" you say to him
Oh- his eyes shines so bright at the time he heard those words that he's been waiting for his entire life
As much as you want don't want the moment to be over you announced
"I'm gonna be late for work" you stand up as he stands up as well
He tuts as he blocks your way "Ah-Ah! You're not going anywhere" his eyes darkened and your breath gets hitched at the tone of his voice
You chuckled "Eddie! I might get fired!" He tugged your hand on the way into the front door
"Nah- call it a day off- just say that you're sick" as he licks his lips and rolls his eyes as you look at him innocently
"You're not going to get away from this, Y/N after you what you just told me that you love me!"
He says dramatically as you snorted at his actions like he's going to die when you're not with him
The moment he lets go of his grip on you, you ran off and he chases you as you shrieked by the time he carried you away from the behind
He gets inside, ignoring your protests and puts you down on your feet as he kicks the door shut
You both stare at each other, hearts full of love and joy as you both share the same smiles at each other
He happily hugs you as kisses you so slowly and so heartwarming
He flashes you with those doe eyes again
"Stay with me? Please?" He finally says as he kept his eyes on you
"Alright, Ed's- I'll stay with you" you giggle
He cheers in victory as he swooped off your feet as he captures your lips to kiss again

You knock several times on the door, no answer coming from the other side. You knock once more, just to be sure. Silence. You take out your key and begin opening the door when suddenly it swings open. On the opposite side of the door stands a tall, lean, beautiful man. He has inky black tattoos creeping up his arms, the dark contrast on the skin drawing your eyes to anywhere and everywhere on the man’s body. “It’s’ 10 o’clock, what do you want, sweets?” The man groans as he holds back the long brown hairs that have slipped from the bun resting atop his head.""

""By the time he graduated highschool, Steve had sought out any and all adrenaline highs his small town had to offer. There weren’t enough cliffs for him to jump off of, there wasn’t a dirt bike that went fast enough, and there wasn't a horse that bucked hard enough to tame the fire that bloomed in Steve’s veins. He was 18 years old the first time he rode in his first rodeo. He lasted 6.6 seconds earning him a score of 46. He came in second, going home with a medal and a gift card to the town’s local steak house. Once he started, he was hooked. New Girl (Eddie Munson x F!Reader)
♡ CHAPTER 1: New School, New You
Summary: January 1986. You just moved to Hawkins, Indiana, with your family in the middle of your junior year of high school. You don't expect to make friends right away, but what can you do when you are unwillingly ushered into your new school's Satanic club?
Word Count: 1.3k
Tags: no use of y/n, slight angst (in relation to moving)
A/N: For those who followed me from my Guitar Lessons fic, I want to apologize in advance for the change in writing style. I'm trying something new! Hope you like it :)
。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。
Hawkins, Indiana is a little town tucked away in the suburbs. It’s smaller than what you’re used to, and the foreign smell pierces through your nose. It’s a far cry from the comforting aroma of your hometown. There’s no sweet scent of the sticky, melted ice cream on the benches outside the parlor you’d pass by every so often. No sign of the mustiness that would hang around the abandoned buildings off of the corner of your house. You almost don’t even remember what it feels like anymore.
When you enter your new home, the floorboards creak with each step of your converse. The laces glide against the wood; the soles leaving a trail of soil from the unpaved road.
The blank white walls are accented with brown chair rails covering the perimeter of the living room. Soft sunlight beams through one of the open windows. You peer outside, head craning towards the half-overcast sky. The universe doesn’t mock you today. Instead, it empathizes with you.
An arm wraps around your shoulder and squeezes you in close. “It might not feel like it now, but we can turn this into our home.” You breathe in the familiar warmth of your mother.
“I miss them.”
“I know, honey. I’m sorry.”
You wonder if she’s really that sorry. But you remember—she had to say goodbye to her family and friends, too. It’s no one’s fault that your father received a promotion under the condition that he moves with the company. There was no way to convince him to stay; he’d argue that the new paychecks could give everyone a more comfortable life and afford new luxuries, even.
You were happy without new luxuries, though. Everything in your life was a fixer-upper, but that was all you ever needed.
So you conclude that she is sorry, to an extent at least. Because the possibility that she understood how you feel and could still easily take everything away without remorse feels much worse.
The warmth disappears as quickly as it came. You’re left with stacks of cardboard boxes filled to the brim with little trinkets and birthday cards, along with the labor of pushing them to your newly assigned bedroom.
The air is suffocating. It swallows you whole and each stride echoes, bouncing off the walls in an infinite loop. The color is perfect; it’s the same shade you were used to waking up to every morning. But there are no old paint cracks running along the windowsills. There isn’t a thin layer of dust covering it, and the windows aren’t stained by the changing seasons.
You want to hold onto your childhood so badly that it haunts you.
Life has a funny way of keeping track of memories. It reminds you through the small gifts friends give in passing, the way you feel looking at the ticket stub of your very first concert, and the scar you got from a fall once.
Even when you don’t want to remember, because it hurts so bad, you do. You carry the memories of your loved ones from back home with you, secretly hidden away in a safe compartment in your mind.
They stalk you as you unload the boxes. A picture frame with all of your friends, a friendship bracelet, a diary in which only one page was scribbled in, a handful of scrunchies.
You find your backpack crushed under some books. There are a handful of tiny rips and patches from when you tried sewing them back anew. Pencils and sticky notes are squashed in the smaller pocket. Worksheets, from the few days before you left, are scattered haphazardly within your notebook, half-finished.
You had landed in the eye of the storm, halfway through the semester of junior year. Time stops for no one, and you curse it for that very reason.
They say high school is the best four years of your life. In the three and a half years you were there, imagining a worse place was unfathomable.
You had watched kids being thrown against lockers, boys snaking a hand down girls’ collars, and favoritism, all of which could happen on the same day. You’d lost count of how many times your friends had come crying, searching for sympathy and comfort.
Most importantly of all, you had seen what they do to new kids. Would Hawkins be so different?
You dread lunch the most. Your lost gaze and trembling legs turn you into a walking target. You recall some of the worst ways to be tortured by a senior, then think about the way a poor boy had pleaded with you through his eyes to help, to call for help, or anything at all. But you had stayed motionless, trapped by the unshakable fear of being next.
You realize this must be your punishment.
Yet, when you slowly walk through the aisles of the cafeteria, no one so much as bats an eye at you.
Every single table is conveniently filled with their respective groups. It isn’t as cliché as the way they make it seem to be in movies, but the differences in fashion and personalities among each are enough to be discernible.
When you reach the end of one row, you stand face-to-face with a boy proudly donning a shirt that read HELLFIRE CLUB. He’s small; his brown curly locks are squashed by his baseball cap as he awkwardly moves to the side and sits down next to his friends.
The rest of the group, when huddling closely and laughing so hysterically, look like a strange assortment of candy tossed sloppily in a trick-or-treat bag. It’s almost endearing, watching the way their uniforms wrinkle as they carefully listen to who you assume to be their ringleader.
Today, you decide, is a good day to not eat in a random corner, on the floor, of the cafeteria.
You spot an open seat—two, actually, facing each other.
They fall quiet.
Their leader looks at you curiously, tilting his head ever so subtly to the side as he looks you up and down. “Hi there.”
He smiles, though his eyes ponder: Who are you, and why are you here?
“I—uh, I was wondering…”
He arches a brow.
Even though he’s standing a couple of feet away, his menacing height gives the illusion that he’s towering over you. His presence is strong and alluring. His gaze penetrates through your skin like a freshly sharpened spear. He knows how to command a room.
The fear returns tenfold, and you wonder if you had made the mistake of asking the king of bullies. Your eyes dart back to the seats and quickly change your mind.
He notices, and there’s now a crooked grin plastered on his face. New prey.
You begin to shake your head and back away, maybe drop a few apologies, and hope he spares you. But he puts a hand up, gesturing for you to come closer.
“Don’t be shy.”
You think about making a run for it. How fast you could go, how far your ripped shoes could take you—before he eventually finds you in this tiny school. It would only be stalling the inevitable.
Your feet drag against the ground slowly, and you swear they can hear the sound of your heart beating over the little squeaks your sneakers make.
You finally stand before him, shoulders tense and white-knuckling the lunch tray. You expect a spit in the face, a kick to your shins, or if you’re lucky, some insults about your unbrushed hair or puffy eyes.
Instead, he looks over to one of the kids and politely asks them to move down. They begin to protest, but it’s stopped with just a single look.
You are sure now, that this is how you caused the beginning of your downfall for the rest of your high school career.

Dear Ren Win, Uh hey, who knows how long I've been awake now? I certainly don’t... Kinda hard to when I’m plagued with constant nightmares and the shadows on the wall don't sleep, they keep calling me. Beckoning... If I could only shut it all out then maybe I could get some damn sleep. But what’s up, my fiery spitfire? Actually don’t answer that because I know, especially if you are reading this. Which if you are reading this then I’m sincerely sorry, you didn’t deserve this.
Did you know I never thought I would be writing you this letter? Yet here I am agonizing over writing it, how ironic. But this is my last message to you and I know you are probably so lost in this moment that doesn’t seem to end. Would you believe I'm here to set you free? And I know the most painful thing in this world is to say goodbye to the one that means the world to you but it’s not the end. So it’s time to say goodbye, it’s time to spread your wings and follow your dreams. Don’t let them die with me Serenity, not when I'm just one chapter in your life. There'll be more, I promise. Besides twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. And don't be afraid to fall in love again cause finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. But finding a soul mate who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what is an even better feeling. So don’t give up on love, hell maybe Steve is the one for you after all ;).
I understand you may be wondering what the hell happened, well you know what the butterfly effect is? It’s a chaos theory, where the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state. And true to Murphy's Law, if anything can go wrong, it will. Confused well let me simplify it, I didn’t go on my road trip with Kenzie. We were supposed to leave early Saturday morning, the beginning of spring break. But after the game Friday night, I brought Chrissy back to my trailer to sell her Special K cause she wanted something harder than what I bring to school. Well something went terrifying wrong, something harmed her while I was looking for the drug. I witnessed her die, well she looked dead. I kinda ran away after she fell to the ground, like she was floating in air. Now I am wanted for what happened to her when it was Vecna, a monster from the upside down. I’m about to go fight him and I don’t know what is going to happen so in case I die, I wanted to write you this letter. Which is probably all over the place but who cares, main thing is I get to say goodbye to you and tell you how much I love you. Which I love you so damn much, forever and always. Have for awhile now and I am sorry I never told until it was too late.
You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I’ll always love you, that’s where I’ll be waiting til we meet again.
Rock On, Eddie Munson

@scarednotscary ★ cont. from [x]
EDDIE WAS PERCHED ON A METAL PICNIC TABLE in the courtyard of the school, a half-smoked cigarette between his fingers, feet on the bench and ass on the surface. He hadn't meant to be late. In fact, he'd been trying his damndest to make it to class on time so his tardiness didn't count against him graduating. Surely the administration didn't want him here any more than Eddie wanted to be here. A little bit of slack would have been much appreciated. Alas, that wasn't going to happen so for him it was just better to miss his first period altogether than show up late. He'd get the homework from Gareth later, who shared the same class. He'd forge some kind of a note to give to the office so he'd get the absence from his first class waved. Eddie was pretty sure the secretary knew the notes were forged but she didn't say anything. He was grateful for that.
So imagine his surprise as he say there, waiting for first period to end when Chrissy came out of the doors. The last time he'd seen here she was asking about buying drugs, which he'd obliged because hey - money was money. It wasn't his business why she wanted them and he didn't ask. They'd chit chatted a little, then Chrissy had returned to her regularly scheduled life. Eddie doubted she'd thought about him a second time after their transaction. ❝ Is it? ❞ he asked, crushing the cigarette beneath his Converse. ❝ I wouldn't know. I haven't been inside yet. ❞
He got off the table and shoved his hands into the pockets of his denim jacket. ❝ You feeling okay? You look kinda pale. ❞ Eddie's brow furrowed. ❝ Is your mom or dad coming to pick you up? ❞ He was asking a lot of questions, he knew. Eddie couldn't say why he cared what happened to Chrissy, only that she seemed...nice. They hadn't spoken since middle school but when they'd met up in the woods she hadn't treated him like garbage.

Initially, you were on the fence about moving in with Eddie, it was his childhood home after all. You were worried about imposing and it’s nerve-wracking to officially combine your life with someone else’s.
Wayne assured you that he was happy to leave the trailer to the two of you so that you and Eddie could pursue your lives together. You were considered a part of his family and he knew you’d take good care of his nephew; he expected Eddie to look after you just the same.
Once you had agreed to make the transition, Eddie had to learn to accommodate your needs in the confined space he’d previously shared with his uncle.
You folded your arms and took in the cluttered bedroom. “Can we please take some of these posters down?”
Eddie feigned annoyance with a throaty groan, but beneath it, he was eager to appease you. “Fine, but the Corroded Coffin banner stays up.” With a devilish smile, he pulled you into his embrace.
The unnecessarily secure hug caused a strained giggle to escape you. “Eddieee! That’s too tight!”
He chuckled amusedly and loosened his grip. After nestling his nose into your hair, he hummed with contentment. “This is your castle now, princess.” He pressed a kiss to the crown of your head and sighed. “Someday I’m gonna get you a big house with a yard and I’m gonna do whatever it takes to make it happen.”
You smiled and buried your face into his neck. “My home is wherever you are. If we grow old together in this tin can then so be it.”
That was well over a year ago and things are far from how they were. The air, once saccharine, has a sour aftertaste that has failed to melt away as you’d hoped.
Eddie is making every effort to juggle his responsibilities. He plays twice a week at The Hideout with his band, which means frequent late-night practice sessions. Despite being a Hawkins High alumnus, he remains the Hellfire Club Dungeon Master. In addition, he works extended shifts at the auto shop. More often than not, they need all hands on deck, being that it’s the only one in town.
Due to his demanding schedule, you don’t see him much anymore. There’s always something that he has to tend to. By telling yourself that his absence isn’t personal, you’re unknowingly making excuses for your boyfriend’s inability to make time for you.
Each day, Eddie wakes up at the crack of dawn to get ready for work. If you’re lucky, he’ll place a brief kiss on your forehead while you’re tucked under the shabby blankets; not even awake to savor the gesture of waning affection. Most nights, you’re exactly where he saw you last. Fast asleep and worn out from your own job and keeping the mobile home tidy.
The lack of physical intimacy has Eddie feeling rather unsatisfied. On a few occasions, he slipped into bed beside you and his hands searched your body in the dark. It was low to be copping a feel but his self-restraint had been whittled down from exhaustion. You’d pushed his hand away and mumbled in semi-cognizant disinterest. Left rejected and frustrated, Eddie’s hurt feelings have brought on a distant shift in his demeanor. His internal thunder matches the rumble of your own.
At this rate, you’re merely coexisting with one another. Hardly so, given that he’s rarely home. You’ve been nothing but patient and supportive of his copious passions. Truly, you’re glad that Eddie has these things in his life that make him feel fulfilled, you just wish that you were still one of them.
There’s a good chance that communicating will resolve the strain, but you can’t bring yourself to speak up. It’s pathetic to beg for his undivided attention. Thinking that you could tough it out, you’ve broken your own heart by waiting for him to realize how lonesome you’ve been.
Instead of counting sheep, you lay and wonder if it's fate that the two of you have grown apart. Regardless of kismet interpretations, it’s debilitating to continue a masquerade of pretending that this isn’t torturous. You’ve killed a part of yourself to keep this love afloat with no lifeboats in sight.
This relationship is more than its worst moments but you’ve exhausted the idea that this is simply a rough patch. A day where anything changes for the better remains a pipe dream.
You’ve bid farewell to the little moments that once meant so much. Light years ago, Eddie couldn’t bear to have you out of his arms for more than a few minutes. He'd wrap his arms around your waist and whisper sweet nothings in your ear while you washed dishes at the kitchen sink. He would pull you closer by the belt loops of your jeans to kiss you with fervor after just a few short hours apart. At the time, hours felt like an eternity.
It stings, feeling that you’re not missed. Or at least not missed enough for him to make an effort to be home more. You’ve stopped looking for reasons to stay because he hasn’t given you any. But for the sake of it, you give him one last chance.
Eddie pinky promised he’d be home for dinner tonight. With renewed optimism, you whip up his favorite comfort foods. It feels odd to be cooking after countless weeks of takeout leftovers. You’ve gotten so used to gnawing on cold pizza that eating has lost its significance.
After swiping on a little makeup, you slip into an outfit that’s a step up from your usual sweatpants and t-shirt. The uneasy feeling in your gut bears a striking similarity to how you felt the night of your first date with Eddie. The inexplicable desire to impress him is undeniable. Maybe if you look pretty enough, he’ll remember that you still exist. Ultimately, how the evening goes will determine where you belong. Whether it be in his life or elsewhere. You’re sincerely coveting the former.
Eddie swore on being home by six sharp. Even so, the steam rising off of the hand-cooked meal dissipates as it grows cold. You take a final glance at your watch and concede defeat at the forty-five-minute mark of his tardiness. As much as you hate to admit it, you should’ve known better than to trust that he’d show.
Time has always had a way of throwing it all in your face, but it never fails to wreck you. Just like the days that led to this one, the sun came up and went down. You can’t discern whether it’s what Eddie did or didn’t do. If it was the lack of effort or the intentional cold shoulder. At the end of the day, all of the love is still there but it serves no purpose now.
The chair creaks as you get to your feet. You step into the kitchen and refill your drinking glass at the sink, promptly gulping down the milk-tinted water as a placeholder for the meal you didn’t have. Your skull acts as a cauldron for the boiling hurt and it bubbles to a feverish froth. Before you can stop yourself, you chuck the glass down onto the worn linoleum and jagged shards scatter across the floor. Along with it, you fall to pieces. Your back slams against the cupboard as you slide down until your tailbone meets the floor.
At fifteen minutes to ten, the trailer door slams closed with a thud. Eddie toes off his grimy work boots and notices the romantic setting for two, the plates entirely untouched. It’s immediately evident to him that you went out of your way to put together a special evening that is well past expired.
Eddie’s gaze then finds the broken glass. He inhales sharply and concern coats his lungs. He heads down the hall toward the light emitting from the bedroom and calls out. “My bad for being late, I was-” Eddie reaches the doorway and his sentence drops off when he sees you haphazardly shoving clothes into a duffel bag. “What’re you doing?” He asks, his voice sewn tightly with puzzlement.
Mutely tugging open the top drawer of the dresser, you grab a fistful of socks and underwear and tuck it into the bag. Eddie used to be able to finish your sentences, but tonight you’ll be finishing his. You’re already anticipating the bullshit justifications that you’ve heard time and time again.
Eddie becomes frustrated with being blatantly ignored. When you shift to step past him, he blocks the doorway by extending his arm. “I’m talking to you. Where are you going?”
“Honestly, I don’t know.” You look into his hardened eyes, your own marbled with inflamed crimson veins. “But there’s no way I’m staying here.”
There’s a throbbing in his ribcage at the sight of how visibly saddened you are. Finally being confronted with the consequences of his actions, Eddie swallows hard. “You can’t be serious.”
“Does it look like I’m joking?” Your icy stare falters with the release of a shaky exhale. “I'm done waiting around for you.” Eddie’s expression only adds insult to injury, the fucking nerve of him to play dumb right now.
He throws his head back and scoffs, “Give me a break, I didn’t mean to be late! I was the only one closing tonight.”
Unconvinced, you mutter, “Uh huh,” while ducking beneath his blockading limb.
Eddie scoffs louder this time. “Okay, I see how it is. You think I’m lying.”
You don’t care if he’s telling the truth or not. Even with all of the space that’s amassed between the two of you, there’s no room for honesty. Eddie continues to prod while you rummage through the bathroom drawers gathering necessities.
The beat of your heart thumps wildly in your ears. All the while, your bones have caught a fever, and the fire in your chest spreads, charring your throat as the flames continue to climb. The blistering smoke irritates the backs of your eyes, causing tears to reform and your nose to run.
Eddie makes a sound of artificial amusement and it reverberates off of the shallow walls as he follows you to the living room. “Convincing performance, babe. You’re really sellin’ it, but you can put the bag down now, alright? I get it. I learned my lesson.”
While putting on your shoes you swallow a whimper. Your backbone is coming apart at the seams, but you refuse to express how distraught you truly are.
Folding his arms across his chest, Eddie continues. “Are you seriously making this big of a deal over one missed dinner?”
You stand and take a step toward him, accusingly pressing your pointer finger to his chest. Applying enough pressure that your nail leaves an indentation. “If you think this is because of one dinner, you’re fucking delusional.”
The hinges on the front door squeal as you push it open and walk outside. For far too long all you’d wanted was him, but now being in the same room is unbearable.
Eddie treads on your heels, descending the concrete steps out into the ill-lit trailer park. “Can you not be so overdramatic for once in your life? This is ridiculous. C’mon, let’s just go back inside and talk it out.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.” You growl while jamming the keys into the door of your car and tossing the duffel bag onto the passenger seat. It’s not improbable that if he begged you right now, you’d give in. Part of you is relieved that he isn’t on his knees because you’d never be able to walk away otherwise. Without sparing another glance in his direction, you reverse and steer out of the trailer park.
Cemented in place, Eddie’s socked feet press into the rocky gravel. The lights from the neighboring mobile homes flare like lasers as tears deluge his vision. The utter disbelief that you’re leaving him causes a surge of nausea to churn in his abdomen. What the hell just happened?
As luck would have it, Robin answers when you ring her doorbell. “Hey! Oh- you look like shit.”
Your shoulders slump with the bow of your head, feeling just as shitty as you look. “Yeah, thanks.”
“Errr, sorry. Come on in.” Robin insists, stepping aside for you to enter her home.
The two of you plop down on her living room couch and share a short-lived silence before unpacking the evening’s sequence of events. To the best of her ability, Robin digests your nonsensical blubbering about how you didn’t want to ask Eddie to give up the things he loved.
Half a box of tissues later, you’ve calmed some. “I feel like such a fucking idiot.” You sniffle and fiddle with a loose thread on your sleeve. “Y’know, I can’t even remember the last time we showered together. He treats me like a roommate. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t in love with me anymore.”
Robin frowns. “I don’t blame you. I’m sorry that you’re going through this.” She takes your hand in hers and squeezes it reassuringly.
Shortly after you’d left Forest Hills, Eddie did the same. He figured taking a joy ride down the streets of Hawkins could help clear his conscience. With heavy metal crackling from the stereo, he drives down the sparsely illuminated avenues. In an attempt to escape from his bleeding reality, he focuses on the beat of the music; tapping the steering wheel with his sterling silver-adorned digits.
This is the worst fight you and Eddie have ever had. Sure, there have been trivial arguments over him leaving water on the bathroom floor after taking a shower. Not to mention, Eddie was particularly explosive about you misplacing his belongings while cleaning the trailer. However, it has never gotten heated to the extent that either of you stormed off.
As much as you appreciate Robin’s hospitality, you feel that you’ve overstayed your welcome. Especially since she has to work in the morning. On your way out, you hug her firmly to convey your gratitude. “Thanks for being such a good friend, Robin. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Robin rests her arms on the car door as you settle behind the wheel. “Call me if you need anything, okay?”
With a nod, you force a grin as a semblance of emotional stability. “I’m a big girl, I’ll be alright.”
“Yeah, but still. At least let me know when you get to the motel.” With a sympathetic expression, Robin pushes the door closed and watches as you back out of the driveway.
Truthfully you would rather stay at Robin’s place than at a crusty motel, but you can’t bring yourself to burden her with your hardships. The radio hisses with a channel teasing to stick. A faint melody fades in and out of the static as you concentratedly twist the tuning dial to find the sweet spot. While preoccupied, you fail to notice that you’re driving through a four-way intersection.
Glass rains down like hail when the driver’s side door is struck. The echo of skidding tires halts as your vehicle comes to a complete stop, the passenger side crushed inward by the thick trunk of a tree. The other driver stumbles out into the street, disorientated by whiplash. They frantically shout for help and flag down a car that pulls up to the intersection.
It’s not long before the accident is encircled by emergency responders. Dismal gray columns of smoke lift into the air as the engine’s inferno heats the mangled steel frame that cages your scathed body.
Meanwhile, Eddie ventures to decompress at the private spot he used to frequent with his trusty lighter and a single lazily rolled joint. As he turns the corner of Highland and Chestnut, he’s taken aback by the twirling red and blue streams of light.
The firemen work skillfully to free you from the burning structure. Secured by your seatbelt, you’re slumped forward in your seat; your chin digging into your clavicle. The blaze roaring just inches away caresses you, leaving fiery kisses across your skin. Even so, the warmth gradually drains from your complexion as you begin to sink into the earth to lie forever. Death coaxes you with its enticingly bitter embrace and you're lured beyond control.
Eddie’s van slows as he drives past the scene. The catastrophic sight is unsettling but he can’t take his eyes off of the sparks from the jaws of life that cut the driver’s side door from the frame. It’s far too dark to make out what models of cars are involved.
By the looks of it, there’s a slim chance that whoever is being pulled from the vehicle will survive. There’s a morbid sense of comfort in knowing that he’s not the only one having an awful night. More than anything, he’s glad it’s not him who got into an accident.
Lakeside with the doors wide open, Eddie lies in the back of his van. He drags an ample hit from the joint, striving to cloud away the image of the ecstatic look you gave him when he’d assured you that he would be home on time. Eddie hasn’t seen you that excited in longer than he can remember. He wonders how this evening would’ve gone if he’d kept his word.
The argument replays, and it’s the frailty in your voice that’s penetrating deep into his memory. Eddie convinces himself that it was just a bad fight because that’s what couples do. You’ll come back in a day or so, you’ll hug and make up, and your lives will go back to normal.
Except that‘s exactly what got him into this situation. Things cannot go back to how they were, he has to do better. You deserve to be prioritized and he realizes that now.
Rattling fills the ambulance as it speeds over fragmented pavement caused by the most recent blackberry winter. Strapped on the gurney, you lie motionless. Catatonic, in essence, you're wading in and out of consciousness. Even though your eyes are practically swollen shut, you can see. Though, it’s like looking out of a frosted window. A pearlescent film alters the clarity and runs red due to the blood trickling down from the gash in your eyebrow.
The gurney wheels wobble as you’re rushed down the corridors of the hospital, lungs struggling for air as the bag valve mask offers little assistance to your labored breathing. Under the knife, the surgeons struggle to contain the internal bleeding and operate tirelessly to keep you alive.
After smoking himself as numb as physically possible, Eddie glances at his watch which indicates that it’s half past midnight. He zones out during the drive home and focuses on the painted white dashes that repeatedly disappear under his van. Once he stumbles back into the trailer, it feels exceptionally vacant and the silence is deafening.
Be that as it may, he’s bone-weary from the weed and the strenuous shift at work. Ultimately, he decides he’ll go to bed and deal with his emotions tomorrow. It’s probably for the best since he tends to make poor choices when he’s overtired.
Eddie shucks off the layers of denim and leaves them in a jumbled pile on the floor. His high has broken sooner than he preferred, which makes it difficult to doze off. For a while he tosses and turns on his side of the bed, respecting that the other side still belongs to you.
He listens to the sounds that he’d forgotten about. The crickets outside the window chirping like an off-tempo symphony, the buzzing of the outdated refrigerator in the kitchen, and dogs barking off in the distance. All of the sounds blend to create a foreign cradlesong, lulling him into the twilight of his mind. Your steady breathing is the lullaby he longs for. Shortly after his restless adjusting, exhaustion overtakes him.
Post-operation, the humming machine beside you controls respiration as you lie in the hospital bed. The cocktail of painkillers in your system has buried you into the bottomless oblivion of unconsciousness. Cessation of internal bleeding is a miracle in itself, but being put in a medically induced coma isn’t exactly a triumph.
Due to having broken ribs, the expansion of your chest is feeble. In order to ensure that you remain stable, the medical staff keeps a close eye.
The sun has long since climbed the horizon. Eddie sleeps well past noon due to his body taking the time it required to achieve a relatively homeostatic state. Last night, he was supposed to have an intimate dinner, make love to you, and wake up with you wrapped in his arms. Instead, he was tormented by the fact that not only failed you but his uncle as well. He was raised better than to take your love for granted.
Eddie finds his hands searching for the comfort of your warmth, only to be met with chilled bedsheets. Given that you didn’t come home, he’s quick to remember the unsteadiness he saw in your eyes. Eddie caught a glimpse of the exposed nerve that was worn down to the point of you giving up on him, and he hates himself for it.
He feels vexed that you didn’t express how you’d been feeling. Regardless, he should’ve known damn well that he was running the risk of losing you. Eddie has to figure out where you wound up and think of a way to make things right. One thing is for sure, Eddie refuses to go a single day without you.
After getting out of bed, he pulls on a questionably clean outfit plucked from a heap on the floor. Hell, it passes the sniff test. Correctly assuming that you went to Robin’s after the fight, Eddie snags his keys off of the kitchen counter and sets out to locate you.
When he arrives at Robin’s place, he’s met with an empty driveway. A tinge of worry casts a shadow but Eddie fights off the pessimistic thoughts that pelt him like an air raid. Without stopping, he drives to Family Video. Eddie suspects that Robin is at work if her car isn’t at home, but that leaves your car unaccounted for.
Distracted by the cyclone of desperation stirring powerfully within him, Eddie nearly trips when he hops out of his van. He strides through the double doors and leans his forearms against the front counter.
Robin appears from the back room having been beckoned by the door chime. She stops in her tracks and a bewildered expression forms on her freckled face.
“What’s that look for?” Eddie asks regarding her strong reaction to his presence.
“Uh- nothing.” She resumes her path to the counter and sits in front of the computer. Her fingers clack away on the keyboard to log returns into the system.
Eddie rubs the back of his neck and shifts his focus to a scuff on the surface of the countertop. “I think it’s safe to assume you’re already aware of what went down.” He pauses to take a deep breath. “She stayed with you last night, right?” If Eddie knows anything about you, it's how much you confide in your best friend. It’s a fair assumption, given that’s precisely where you went.
“No, she didn’t,” Robin says snappily, baffled by how inappropriately relaxed he’s acting right now. What is he even doing here?
Eddie’s brows furrow and he raises his head to look at her. “What do you mean no? Where’d she go then?”
Robin stops typing to look at him. “Wh- Do you not know?” When she learned of your incapacitation, she thought that surely Eddie had already found out.
His posture goes rigid as he straightens from his leaning position. That’s not a sentence that ever leads to promising news.
Swiveling on the stool, Robin cocks her head in disbelief at the lost look on Eddie’s face. “She’s in the ICU.”
Blood rushes to Eddie's head and his ears begin to ring like a pipe bomb just went off in the video store. “What? Where’d you get that idea?”
“I guess she had me listed as her emergency contact, I got the call this morning.”
Eddie shouts vehemently, “And you didn’t think to tell me that?!”
Robin raises her hands defensively. “I thought you knew!”
Already having spun around, Eddie dashes through the doors and hops back into his van. Going twenty miles per hour over the legal limit, he speeds down the drabby roads of Hawkins. Luckily he finds an open parking spot in the crowded lot of the hospital.
Following the wall directory that indicates where the intensive care unit is located, Eddie runs faster than he thought he was capable of. He conquers the lengthy stairwells thanks to the adrenaline pumping through his veins. His eyes scan his surroundings while he blindly navigates the polished hallways.
Eddie fails to heed the “medical personnel only” sign and barges into the unit. A voice calls out for security and addresses his intrusion. “Young man, you can’t go in there!”
Frantically inspecting the area, he spots your name listed on a board. The sharp pang in his side from being out of shape isn’t phasing him in the slightest. When Eddie passes the threshold to the room you’re in, his heart is gouged from his chest; ripped clean from the cavity at the sight before him.
Wrapped in bloodied gauze, your complexion is hellishly bruised with raisin and rust-colored burns. The array of discolored hues makes you look like a well-loved doll that’s been drawn on with a permanent marker.
All Eddie can muster is an exasperated “Oh, sweetheart...” with a wobbly lower lip as tears well in his eyes. He reaches for your hand, but just as his fingertips are about to graze yours, he’s yanked backward by a security guard.
“Get your fucking hands off me!” Eddie wails. "Let me go!” His composure disintegrates as he tries to free himself from the guard’s unrelenting grip. The resistance only lasts a few seconds before Eddie’s muscles give out and he’s dragged away.
Astonishingly, Eddie respects the stern warning he receives. He knows that if he impedes, it’ll make things worse for you. He’s done enough damage as is.
In the third-floor waiting room, Eddie settles into the chair in the far corner. Sitting near the window would provide him with vitamin D, which would help him feel a little brighter, but he intentionally avoids it. He won’t allow himself to feel the glow of the sun when you’re clinging to life by the skin of your teeth.
The room is no larger than fifteen by eleven feet and has a sterile atmosphere that makes Eddie feel rather uneasy. The adrenaline dwindles from his system, allowing him to drift off while resting in the firm armchair. Understandably, considering he didn’t sleep well last night without you beside him.
Over the course of the day, the respiratory analysts run tests to determine whether you can be weaned off of the ventilator but you’re still unable to breathe unassisted.
“Mr. Munson?” A tall, older male doctor asks flatly.
Eddie stirs, his frizzy curls flying as he shakes away the drowsiness weighing on his eyelids. “Yeah, yes. That’s me.” He rubs his eyes with his fists and sits up. “How’s she doing, is she alright?”
“Well, the acute agonal respiration has…”
Eddie stares blankly as the medical jargon goes in one ear and out the other. It sounds like an entirely different language, he has no fucking clue what the doctor is talking about. Eddie is trying his best to comprehend the complex terminology.
“...a coma has been induced to allow her a better chance at healing. With that, we’re hoping to see a reduction in brain swelling. Though I do regret to inform you that the likelihood of her waking is a matter of if, not when.’
It feels like the roof is crashing down on Eddie, thrusting him through the layers of the earth until he reaches the molten outer core. Grief eats away at his sweat-slick skin, causing a loss of feeling in his fingertips as if the blood in his veins slows to a crawl.
“...If she does rouse, there’s a likelihood that she’ll experience anterograde amnesia.”
Eddie scoots to the edge of his seat and runs his palms roughly down his face. “Amnesia? Does that mean she won’t remember me?” He gulps sorely and his eyes form a glassy sheen at the notion of everything that the two of you shared being lost forever. He doesn’t even want to imagine what his life would be like without you.
The doctor opens and closes his hand as if to catch Eddie’s concern as it floats through the air. “No, no. She shouldn’t have difficulty with memory retrieval. Consolidation is what may be impacted. Only temporarily, we hope.”
With a disheartened “thank you” from Eddie, the doctor excuses himself. The strength that had kept Eddie’s tears at bay dwindles and he slumps back into the chair, sobbing noisily. He sinks his top teeth into his knuckles in an attempt to muffle the whimpers that tumble from his lips. What is he supposed to do now? Is he going to start praying to a god he doesn’t believe in?
With his optimism beyond pulverized, Eddie is overcome with the fear of losing you. How could he have let something like this happen? While managing the chaos of the present, Eddie lost sight of his future. You.
To say he’s regretful would be a substantial understatement. As Eddie realizes that you were in the burning car that he’d driven past, he feels like he’s going to be sick. The sensation is so strong that he keeps a small trash can nearby just in case.
Beyond the thick panes of glass, the setting sun brushes the horizon and leaves the sky a flushed pink. Eddie attempts to talk some sense into himself. As difficult as it is, he takes on the responsibility of notifying your friends and family by phone call. Of the many, one call goes out to Robin.
As soon as she’s able, Robin arrives to provide Eddie with the emotional support he desperately needs. Few words are exchanged as Eddie drifts in and out of crying fits. She sits beside him and strokes his back reassuringly while he hiccups and coughs.
Robin hasn’t witnessed Eddie this perturbed before. It’s evident to her how sincerely in love he continues to be with you even though he neglected to express that when it mattered most.
A twister of bleak thoughts rips through Eddie’s mind, turning his mental state to rubble. It’s hard to process each emotion individually when they’re all equally loud. At this point, all he can think about is the little things that he may never get to do again. One particular memory stands out from the rest.
In the moments after Eddie made love to you for the first time, you laid in his bed on your stomach; naked, drowsy, and utterly satisfied. You looked ethereal to him. Eddie traced the contour of your spine with the tips of his fingers while you slept. He tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear to admire your sleepily blissed-out expression. Thereupon, Eddie knew that you were the most important aspect of his life and that wouldn’t change.
As much as she'd like to, Robin can't stay all night. After sacrificing her evening to console him, she has to go home. Which leaves Eddie by his lonesome once again. It’s a rough night but somehow he manages to catch some shut eye.
Come morning, the staff still won’t allow Eddie to visit you. He rings Robin and Wayne to update them when he receives the slightest bit of information. There’s no regression in your condition, but that offers little relief.
In the following days, Eddie camps out in the waiting room. Forfeiting his comfort for the sake of being there for you. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he wasn’t there in the event that you needed him. After four days drag by, you’re finally capable of breathing without the assistance of the mechanical ventilator.
“Mr. Munson, would you like to see her now?” A nurse asks.
Eddie’s eyes widen with the desperate nod of his head. “Fucking finally.” He murmurs to himself.
Now that you’re no longer in critical condition, you’ve been situated in a room outside of the ICU. The nurse leads Eddie to the room and he hesitates outside the doorway. Up until now, he wanted to see you more than anything. But now that he can, he’s petrified. Taking the deepest breath he’s ever taken, he enters.
The blunt discomfort in his ribs is alleviated by how pretty you look. You’ve been cleaned up, which makes you appear less mangled than you did when he saw you last. Eddie's movement resembles a shuffle and his eyes switch between your face and his dirty sneakers. As if trying not to startle you, he carefully pulls up a seat at your bedside to absorb his new reality.
The steady beep of the heart rate monitor brings consolation because it reminds him that you are in fact still alive. Your unmoving hand is gently taken into his trembling palm. Eddie handles it delicately, knowing how fragile you must be.
He contemplates in silence, unsure if you would even be able to hear him if he did talk. Surely, you must be in there somewhere. In a circumstance like this, what would be the right thing for him to say?
The pad of Eddie’s thumb strokes your knuckles with a featherlight touch and his burnt caramel irises are downcast in chagrin. He can’t bring himself to look at you for very long, feeling that he doesn’t deserve to because he hurt you.
With his gaze remaining fixed downward, his other senses heighten in the hopes of detecting a subtle twitch or quiver. Any kind of indication that you know he’s there and that he promises to be by your side for as long as he lives.
Your motionlessness is killing him, but you look agonizingly peaceful. Beneath the plum-colored bruises, stitches, and scabs, you’re still the beautiful girl he treasures. Eddie whispers, “my sweet angel,” as he places a kiss on the back of your hand.
The tears that run astray trickle down his cheeks, each salty droplet holding a memory. Eddie isn’t ready for you to become a real angel. If you do, he’ll spend the rest of his life searching for white feathers and shapes in the clouds. Eddie will endlessly scour for signs that you’re watching over him.
Thirty minutes pass before he finally garners the courage to speak. “I don’t really know where to start, this feels kinda silly. But first and foremost, I owe you an apology.” Eddie tries to swallow the stale air that's making his throat feel brittle. “Sweetheart, I am so sorry. I know that probably doesn’t mean shit. I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself, so I don’t expect you to.”
With his free hand, Eddie wipes his cheeks with the hem of his shirt. “If I’m being honest, I’m fucking terrified that you aren’t gonna wake up. I miss you so god damn much. I can’t imagine how tired you are, and if you wanna let go… It’s okay.”
Eddie can feel pressure building behind his eyes as the tears threaten to fall faster. He blinks them away and tries to stay focused. “But I want you to stay, baby. I’m not done being selfish yet, I need you to come back to me. Please come back. I promise I'll treat you better this time.”
It feels like he’s on a bullet train, the outside world soaring by at lightning speed while the hospital room is eerily stationary. “I swear to god, I’ll never make you feel alone like that again. No more broken promises either.” Eddie hooks his pinky finger with yours, solidifying his word.
There’s a knock at the door and Eddie peers over his shoulder. A nurse enters with a full rally bag and a roll of bandages. "You'll need to step out for a moment."
Eddie is unwilling to leave your side, but he knows he shouldn’t interfere. When he rises from his seat, he gives your hand a brief kiss. Eddie glances behind him before leaving and thinks as if saying to you, “I’ll be right back, princess. Don’t be scared.”
As the nurse is refreshing your bandages, Eddie wanders until he happens upon the gift shop. He purchases a wimpy bouquet with the pocket change he has on him. When he’s allowed to return to your room, he places the vase on the utility cart beside the bed. Even though you’re unable to see them, Eddie tells himself that you like them.
From thereon, Eddie never leaves your side. He doesn’t care about the awful nicotine withdrawal or how much he misses his mattress, there’s not a chance in hell that he’s going to be separated from you longer than absolutely necessary. Your hand never leaves his for as long as he's sitting at your bedside.
The staff takes pity on him and brings him ham and cheese sandwiches. Eddie struggles to eat one-handed but he makes it work. He wonders if you’re hungry, considering you’re surviving off of IV mixtures. He misses eating junk food with you and licking the cheese dust off of your fingers on movie nights.
Eddie’s sanity gradually slips due to being confined to the small room, but having visitors is keeping him relatively sane. Over the remainder of the week, the atmosphere vibrantly evolves. The gifts from Wayne, the Hellfire Club members, and your family bring a spiritedness similar to that of a blooming field of spring flowers. Themed balloons, greeting cards, and assorted floral arrangements line the windowsill.
Robin buys you a stuffed monkey that she names Bananas and it stays tucked under your arm. She stops in every other day, usually bringing Eddie clean clothes from home. Robin keeps you company while he takes brisk showers in the private bathroom. She even brings nail polish and paints your fingernails your favorite color.
Eddie wishes you could see how incredibly loved you are. In part, he's glad that you’re not awake because you don’t have to bear the damage your body has endured.
His thoughts continue to consume him. Eddie incessantly scolds himself for having ruined the best thing that's ever happened to him. He feels wholly responsible for you being in this state. If he hadn’t fucked up, there wouldn’t have been a fight, and you wouldn’t have left.
Eddie is slouched in the same uncomfortable chair that he’s been glued to for two weeks. He’s currently zoned out while mindlessly drawing shapes on your wrist. His eyes are fixed on the western program playing on the outdated television across the room. Eddie is pulled back to reality by the twitch of your fingers in his grasp.
His heart leaps in his chest and his eyes switch to where his hand is joined with yours. Eddie holds his breath, sits up straight, and stares intensely. He’s convinced that he’s just imagining things until there’s another twitch. And another.
Eddie’s eyes dart between your hand and your face, whispering “C’mon, baby. You can do it.”
Your eyelashes flutter as your lids steadily retract, though they don’t open very much. It’s like the storm is dispersing and the sky is pulling itself together as you come to.
Eddie is elated, to say the least. He tries to stay calm because the last thing he wants is for you to be frightened.
“There’s my girl,” He says softly while stroking your arm. Tears of pure joy roll off his cheeks. “Hi, sweetheart.” Eddie sniffles, “I really missed you.”

pairings : FireFighter!Eddie Munson x FEM!reader, Bestfriend!Robin Buckley x Reader
note to reader : ugh- god can you imagine Eddie rescuing you? I just had a random thought about this and I hope you'll love it
------------------------------------
"you sure, you'll be okay?" Robin can't stand leaving you alone in the apartment
"I'm fine, Robs, of course- I'll call you"
You flash her with a sweet smile
Robin starts fidgeting with her hands, a sign of nervousness and she's hella worried of your being
She obviously doesn't trust your next door neighbor who is being careless
You can't blame her, you don't have anyone else in the world
You still might have few another relatives in other countries but you're not so sure of it
Your grandma saved up enough for you just so you can be ready when it's time for you to live independent
She thought about everything that you needed to know and learn, it's tough but you won't stop going for it
"Live your life, do what you want, be kind, have courage, don't let anyone try to tear you down and you will find someone who loves you for all eternity"
Those are the last words that your grandma told you to do
Sometimes, you wished that you had someone else to lean on
You did, when you moved to Hawkins, Indiana
Robin Buckley is the very first one you became friends with
You're been in Hawkins for over a year now
Still, Robin confuses that you chose Hawkins out of all of the places
Not that Hawkins is bad- it's just, you never been into a province before
You're used in big cities and you tell her, you need a peace and a fresh new start for a good life....
Hopefully
"Robin" you walk towards to her
She ducks her head down and you hold her hands
"I'll be okay, I promise" you tried to convince her but you know she will never stop worrying about you
"Can you just- come with me?" Robin starts reasoning with you
"What? No! I don't wanna disturb your mom-" you shake your head
"My mom is out of town and you could stay there- where it's safe" she says with pleading eyes
"Robin..." you sigh as you let go of her hands
"Look, I just had this very bad feeling like I'm being serious" she starts rambling
"Bad feeling about what?" you question
"That something else will happened to you" she says with a concern look sitting on her face
"Robs- I appreciate the offer and your concern of my well-being but I will contact you in case of emergency"
She sighs in defeat as she grabs her bag
"Promise?"
you chuckle "I promise"
She finally smiles as she pulls you into a tight hug
"I will be crazy if something really bad happened to you, if my guts are right"
You roll your eyes as you pulled back "That's just your mind messing with you, Robs"
She laughs unenthusiastically as she reaches at the doorknob
"if I was right, you better get ready for my ultimate teasing of the year"
"Yeah, whenever you say, Robs"
"Ha! I love you, Bestie!"
"I love you too, Robs!"
You get comfortable at your own bed as you snuggle up with a pile of pillows
You drifted off to sleep, you're tired at the entire day of being a working student
Your next door neighbor, left the gas stove open, the fire starts blazing the kitchen
A smoke coming out of the door, the others are now complaining about the air until it was too late to get it out
you started coughing from your sleep, it smells awful and suffocating, you open your eyes and you see a big black smog and before you know it...
An explosion happened, you could hear the windows breaking and your other neighbors are screaming and calling for help
You could hear the footsteps outside of your room some others are banging at your door yelling for you to go outside immediately
You couldn't hear any voices after that because of the ceiling collapsing
You try to stay calm until you saw your front door is guarded with a huge flame and you know that doorknob is hot to touch
If you try to open anything or your window, it would cause another massive explosion
You crawl down from your bed and carefully grab a cloth and wet it with a towel and you cover your nose and mouth for it
You can't stay here and you can't even call for help
You could feel your walls are now warm and you can't breathe easily anymore
You started wrapping yourself with your cream cardigan in the corner of your room
You didn't even notice that you're shaking and your eyes are now watery because of the intense smoke from the fire
There's nothing you could do or try to escape every part of the room is dangerous to move and to touch
All you can do is don't try to panic, you just hope that someone...
Someone will come for you....
You closed your eyes and picture of your memories with your grandma and your bestfriend, Robin
Your watery eyes and your sobbing starts mixing up with your emotions, you start to speak for yourself
"I'm only 22, I haven't lived my life yet, please someone save me, someone take me away from this."
A firetruck came, the wailing alarm sound starts blaring around the place
Your bestfriend came out with Hopper's car
Jim contacted Robin, Hopper knew that you had no else but they're willing to help you out
"Oh my fucking god! No! Y/N!" Robin eyes starts welling up with so much terror as she calls out for your name
While she's looking outside of your building with her head raised up
"I knew something is going to happen, if only she would've listen to me, we could've prevented this" she sobbed and clutching her heart hoping that you will be found as soon as possible
She saw a fireman on the way running up at the emergency stairs as he prepares for the impact on your window
Another glass shattered, all of the people exclaimed in fear
Robin gasps as Hopper stays besides her assuring her that you will be okay
"Where is she? Oh no- Y/N" Steve runs towards to Robin quickly as he passes bunch of families coming out of the fire and disaster
A lot of emergency vans coming, police cars, firetrucks
Steve, didn't know you very well since he is moved to a different place for his job
But you two knew each other, he is a nice friend like Robin
You both adore them
Robin starts crying unstoppably "She's still there" is the only thing that she can say
Steve runs his face with his hands in shock
A fireman went inside of the broken as he looked harder and walked very gently around the the room
From the bedside table, he saw you
Sitting in the corner with a wet towel on your nose and mouth
Your eyesight is now blurry and you felt dizzy
Your mind couldn't able to manage who is the figure above you
If only he could see your face clearly, you had a chance of being alive because of him
You sob through your stinged eyes as you try to move
You could feel that you're about to pass out from any moment as he reaches for your hand to hold you
"You'll be fine" he says as he carries you- as he hold you tight by your whole body along with your legs
Even at your state with your lungs filled with unbreathable air, you still understand his words
But you don't have any more power to take a good look at the person who is rescuing you
"We got a last one survivor at the 6th floor" Ian reports with his walkie-talkie
"Steve! It's her!" Robin shouts while pointing at you
Steve puts his hands over the top of his head as he squeezes his eyes shut "Oh...thank god"
"I'm sorry, kids, my officers at the hospital informed me that no visitors allowed tonight" Hopper says as he watches you with your rescuer laying you on the emergency bed
"What?!" Robin's voice cracked at the frustration
"I guess, it's their protocol, but I'm sure she'll be okay"
"Hopper, please- she has no one to look out for her- what if-" Robin became frantic until Steve puts a hand over her shoulder as she sighs in exasperation
"Can we visit her tomorrow?" Steve asks as he glances at Robin with a small smile
"Yeah, I'm sure they will let you in for tomorrow" Hopper says in reassurance
Steve & Robin both nod at Hopper as they kept their eyes at the emergency van from where you are with compassion expression on their faces
The nurses rushes you out of the emergency van as they quickly and prepare for a separate room
The fireman removed his helmet and breathes heavily as he watches the others checking on your vital signs
"I can't believe you always got the last survivor" Ian walks beside him who is also exhausted
"You know me, I can't leave the place without double checking for more survivors" he says as he puts his helmet under his arm
"Yeah, I know- you're stubborn for not following the rules" Ian says while rubbing his sweat and dirt with a handkerchief
"Can I just stay here?" He says not looking at his friend, his eyes are fixed on you
"Why?" He questions as he follows his friend's gaze
"I think she doesn't have anyone else to guard on her" he answers
Before Ian can reply, a nurse comes up to the fireman
"Is there a family member or a guardian?"
"N-No, I'm afraid there's none"
"She doesn't have any body injuries, wounds, cuts, none but her lungs needed to be cleared and need of good oxygen because of the fire smoke- she needs to rest here for a couple of days just to sanitize her whole body system and she will be fine"
"Is- Is that good news or bad news?" he asks still unsure if you will be okay
The nurse tugged up a smile "It's good news"
He nods as he asks for one more thing "Can I be with her until she's fully recovered?"
"Sure, you can"
"Thank you"
"What in the world are you doing?!?"
Ian looks at his friend like he has done the most unbelievable thing on earth
"That person is a stranger, dude!" Ian gestures at you trying to prove his point
He has no words to explain this yet he starts "I just don't know why, man, but I have this feeling that I had to be with her"
Ian laughs in disbelief "Are you out of your goddamn mind?!? You don't even know her?!?"
He leaves his friend without saying another word, obviously, headed towards to your hospital bed
Ian shakes his head as he speaks to himself
"He is out of his fucking mind"
You're still asleep as he looks over to your chest rising up slowly
"Is there a specific time or day that she will woke up?" He asked at the nurse who is checking on your dextrose
"Hopefully, tomorrow noon she will wake up"
He nods as he takes a moment to stare at your face
"Wow" he says as he roams his eyes around your face
Even you looked a lil' sick from the disaster but still you're effortlessly breathtaking
"I know, you don't even know who I am but for some reason- I am here to help you and take care for you" he says as he puts his hand on top of yours
From that moment he did that action, your hand moved a little bit and he raises both of his eyebrows
He smirks jokingly "You can't see me but you can hear me, huh?"
Your rescuer kept his word, he stayed all night with you
He removed his uniform as he ate himself a snack while watching MTV on the television
He always takes his chances to glance at you
He dozed off until 7am, he slept on the chair slouching back, the moment he tried to stretch out he curses under his breath at the sore on his back
He rubbed his tired eyes as he looks over at you, he is still admiring you, he doesn't know why his heart flutters
"I hope you'll wake up sooner or later" he smiles to himself before he exits the room
He purchased a basket filled with a lot of stuff, flowers, hazelnut chocolate bars, some buttery pastries and a letter
He came back with a chicken sub sandwich as he halts his tracks on the nurse in front of him
"Oh, there you are" the nurse glanced at him while tapping the pen on the clipboard
He suddenly straighten his stance "What is it?"
"I just wanted to let you know that she'll be waking up from any moment now"
"Really?" He is wide eyed at the announcement
The nurse nods as she leaves your room
He wants to stay but he can't, Wayne must've been looking for him
"I wish I could stay a little more longer, I hope this isn't the last time" he says as he starts to get up and grab his things
He looks at you, one last time before leaving you
He memorizes your face, he wants to remember every exact detail about you
He informs your nurse that he will be leaving, just ask the main office fire department for him, he left a number
He forgot to tell his name
Your whole body feels excruciating painful for laying too long
You're getting to start to have consciousness
Your open your eyes slowly, your eyesight are blurry until it fades
You look around to see that you're in a hospital
You try to sit up and felt a twinge of headache, you groaned
You notice a basket beside you, it looks so pretty
Even you feel worse, you still manage to smile
You found the items in it are to your liking until there's a piece of paper that caught your eye
You unfolded it as you read what's inside of it
"Hi, I'm the one who rescued you from the fire, I've noticed that you're alone so I insisted and decided to stay with you the whole midnight, the meals that they prepared for you I already organized them so you don't have to move and um- I hope you'll love the basket that I gave just for you and I wish we'll see each other again." :)"
you giggled while reading the letter, you didn't even noticed that you also have this weird feeling forming up on your chest
you're also smiling widely, there's a scribbled note on the bottom and you're so curious what's the reason why
"You're awake!" Robin appeared out of nowhere as she rans towards you
Thankfully, she taken the note that you're in a dextrose and don't have the strength of the same thing that she has so-
She carefully hugged you as you gladly accepted
"I'm sorry, I should've been here last night, Hopper, told us-"
She stops as she glances down at the letter that you're holding
"Is that a letter?"
"Yeah" you're still re-reading the letter again for the second time, you're catching feelings with a stranger
She steps back "There is something going on with you" she gestures her hands onto you
You let the letter rest down, you furrow your brows
She gasps "Your cheeks!" she finishes her statement while cupping her mouth
You touched your cheeks as she pointed it out
"it's tinged pink!" She exclaims as you roll your eyes at her
She laughs teasingly as she holds the gift basket up
You could see the hint of mischievous on her eyes as it begins to go even more wider and hyper
She snaps her fingers "Oh my god! It's the fireman who rescued you!"
"There's nothing going on here, Robs" you say lowly as you shook your head
"Uh no- you're wrong, there is definitely something that is indeed going on between the Mr. Fireman and you" she snorts at your in denial
"Mr. Fireman?" Steve chimes as he closes the door
"Hi, Steve!" You greet him, ignoring Robin's teasing
Steve smiles to you and he asks if you're feeling well and you nod
She chuckles as she says to Steve "Miss Y/N here has finally found her true love, remember the guy who climbed his way up just to see if there's anymore survivors left?"
He nods gesturing for her to continue
Your brows knit together as you listen
"That's the same guy who stays with Y/N all night like literally! the nurse told me that he stayed with her and she describes that he is very alerted and keeps checking on you all the damn time!" she starts gawking and Steve is amused by this story
"And look at this!" Robin holds up the basket in front of Steve "He even gifted her a basket"
"It's just a basket, Robs" you reason with her
"But with flowers, chocolates and flaky pastries" she says as you sigh
You tried to remember correctly Robin's explanation, you wandered off
He risked his safety just to save you?
"Wait, Robs- so you're telling me that he goes back even it's dangerous?"
Robin nods aggressively "Yeah, you're the last one, it's so scary that after he got you, the flame starts growing everywhere- I was like "Thank god!" he found you right on time"
Your eyes soften and it's very heartwarming
You're so grateful and thankful for that person
"I overheard that he is very well-known fireman who returns to check and to look for more civilians" Steve adds as you nod at him
"Yes! Y/N if it wasn't for him you're wouldn't be here" Robin eyes turns to a worried look
God, you didn't even know why you feel so fluffy all over until you heard your friends snickering
You facepalmed as you catch them grinning at you
"You got it bad, huh?" Steve smirks
"Y/N, babe- i just realized you're a damsel in distress and he's your knight and shining armor" Robin taunts at you as you scrunch up your face in annoyance
You scoff as you dismissive the both of them with your hand
"Fuck off- guys- anyways did you know his name?"
Steve thinks for a moment "Uh no, sorry Y/N"
Robin nods as well "But we can help you out to find your prince charming" she teases more as you flip her off and you could hear Steve laughing
Finally, you got discharged after 3 days from the hospital
Thankfully, you secured your personal documents and even a emergency fund just in case
You've lost a lot in that fire at your apartment, your clothes and even some appliances that you bought with your own money
It hurts but you're not afraid to start all over again
But first, you want to look for your mystery rescuer who doesn't left a name
Robin offers to borrow some of her clothes and things that she doesn't use anymore
It's a forest green dress with a sweetheart shape on the front and pair of sandals and an old shoulder bag
You approached the fire department, you see a lot of firemen walking outside for lunch, some others are chilling in the firetruck
"Can I help you?"
You turned around "Yeah- I'm looking for a certain fireman that works here"
He takes a good look at you for a moment and his eyes widen the second he recognizes you
"Oh- are you the last survivor that is rescued recently?"
You smile "Yes, that's me!"
"How you feeling?"
"Good, physically, but I feel bad for the lost stuff that was burned in the fire" You shrug
"Totally get that, but I hope you'll get back on track"
"Thank you"
"I'm Ian, by the way"
"I'm Y/N" you checked your watch- you might get late for work if you wait for him
"Oh no- I need to go now, can you um- give this to him?" You fish out the envelope letter from your bag
"Yes, of course" he takes it
You say goodbye as you left the premises
"You have a visitor earlier" Ian announces
"What?" He asks as he folded his clothes in the locker
"She asked me to give this to you" he hands the envelope letter
"She?"
"It's the same girl that you just saved recently"
"Oh- her! She got out?" He beamed as he has that heart eyes again at your handwriting
"Yeah, she looked great and she is looking for you"
He nods along as he listens to his friend, his eyes are fixated on the letter
"I figured that she has no idea what your name is" Ian flashes him with eyes of mischief, fucking Ian he did it on purpose
"Did you tell her?"
"No- I didn't"
"Dude!" he throws his hands up
"Bro- look she I just talked to her for a while and then she left very fast!"
He sighs as he keeps looking at your letter
"When will I ever see you again?" He thinks to himself
"You're so sure of her, huh?" Ian crosses his arms as he chortled to his friend, who is desperate to see you again
He nods "When I get the chance to see her, I wanna tie the knot with no hesitations" He raises your letter upwards
Ian laughs "She got you all hooked up!" as he claps both of his hands in the process
"Shut the fuck up, man" he says with a playful smile on his face
"Alright, alright!" Ian chuckles, he surrenders as he zips his bag
"I will see her someday, I just have to" he says to himself
"Hello, I received your letter, I hope we'll meet again and I really want to express my gratitude to you in person and about the basket, it's perfect- I don't if it's just a coincidence but I love hazelnut chocolate! I'm really happy for that, I guess I could say just for now, Thank you for staying the night with me ♡."
He doesn't even realized that he's holding up his breath as he reads through your letter
Oh, his heart soars to the extent at the thought that you want to see him like he wanted too
"Have you seen him yet?" Robin speaks through the receiver
You play with the telephone cord "Unfortunately, no, Robs"
She hums "Did ask for his name though?"
You squeeze your eyes shut "Oh- shit I forgot about that!"
"But I met someone there his name is Ian and I think he knows something but he doesn't try to tell it to me"
She chuckles "Ain't that mean"
"Yeah, I know right"
Unbeknownst to you, a fireman enters the premises while you're on the other side of the diner
He sats at the corner of the room as he orders a cup of coffee
He reads your letter again
"Hey, Y/N! We need some assistance at the kitchen!" your co-worker calls out to you
You cover the receiver with your hand
"Okay! I'll be right there!" You reply
"I'm gonna go, Robs"
"Hey, Y/N- wait"
"What?"
"I'm going to manifest him for you, I bet he is there right now!"
"That's really sweet, Robs" you sarcastically say ignoring your cheeks blushing
"I'm gonna visit you in there with Steve"
"Oh- sure! See ya later!"
"Take care, Y/N"
And by that you placed the phone back as you make your way inside the kitchen
While cleaning and brushing the dishes, you overheard your co-workers talking
"Is that the guy who saved a girl from the fire recently?"
"Yeah, I think so"
"He's a very nice fella"
You froze and started blinking rapidly, you turn your heel around, you didn't care for your soapy hands dripping
"I'm sorry, excuse me- we have a customer who is a fireman went in here?"
"Yes?"
You looked around as you ask "Is he still here?"
"Uh- no I think he just left"
Your heart starts beating fast as you excuse yourself for a minute, your co-workers are confused as they called your name
You removed your apron and hang it on the side as you ran towards to the backroom
You searched and looked everywhere
You could feel like you're about to cry as you spot him on the other side of the street
You crossed the road as you both ways for the upcoming vehicles
He stops as he finishes his cup of coffee that went into the trash can
You cleared your throat to grab his attention
He looked back and there you are- words caught up on his throat
"Hi, are you-"
"it's you"
He moves much more closer to you
You brows furrowed as you try to recall his voice
"Can you try to speak again?" Your eyes gleaming with recognition
"You're the one that I've been looking for!" He exclaims happily
You gasped "It is you!" as you smile to yourself- as you remembered
"You'll be fine" you say
He gave you a look of appalled expression
He squints his eyes "You remembered me saying that to you?!"
"Yeah" you smile softly at him
"I'm Eddie- technically, it's Edward Munson but I prefer to be called Eddie" he blurted out
"Oh gosh, finally! I've been dying to know your name" you let out a breathy laugh
"Yeah? What's yours?" He smiles, his eyes are out of this world- you could stare at it for hours
"I'm Y/N L/N"
"Y/N" he says your name and it makes your heart burst
"So, uh- how you're been doing?" He gestures for you two to walk while talking which you automatically accepted
"I'm fine because I finally found you" you giggle and woah- where that came from?
"Damn, I saved you before and now you found me" he grins like a Cheshire cat- cute
"I guess we're even" you proudly say
Despite his heroic persona with his job, he is actually very quite charming and fun to be with and it feels so comfortable talking to him- it feels safe and also you're contented with that
You're both seated at the bench of the sidewalk
"This is the time I get to say thank you so much for everything" you say as you put your hand over your chest
"you don't have to do that, sweetheart" he smiles down at you as he studies your face
Sweetheart?
"I think I died right here and came back alive again" your mind talks
"That's so very amazing of you to do that to people and I admire it" you praised him
"Oh, you heard about that, huh?" He rest his back at the bench
"I just don't wanna take things for granted, you know what I mean? If it's still there and just do what you have to do, it might be too late for anything if you don't try" he paused
"I know we all go... but I want to give people this message as don't waste your time just live your life to the fullest" he says with so much honesty
"You're such a good person, Eds" you nod at him, he looks straight into your eyes and sees no judgement, you cared
He blushes at the nickname "Honey, you ain't see nothing yet" he tucks your hair behind your ear
He is so right about you
"I met some of your co-workers"
"Really, who?"
"Ian"
He laughs "Oh- that motherfucker, he knows what he's doing"
"Who? Ian?"
"Yeah, he's my friend"
Your eyes almost bulge as you laugh along with him
He is so silly in fact, you could tell he is insufferable to be with
"Hey, look over there!" Eddie points his finger
You swing your head around and notice something isn't there but the moment you look back at him- he is super close to you- your breath gets hitched as he planted a kiss on your cheek
He returns to his position and now a smug smile is now sitting on his handsome face
You can't deny that he looked really fine
You touched your cheek where he just kissed you
You push his chest playfully but he snatches your arm to pull you closer to him
He is going to be the death of me
"I have a huge crush on you, Y/N" he admits as he ducks his head shyly
How could someone be so hot and cute at the same time?!?
"I feel the same way too" you say as you leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek as well
"Seriously? This is the first time you saw me clearly"
"I've never doubted my feelings for you, Eddie"
His eyes soften, you're telling the truth
He didn't think twice to wrap his arms around you into a tight hug, you melt with it
"Y/N?" You heard Robin's voice as you pulled back to see her, Steve is standing beside her
Eddie frowned as he missed your warmth
Robin darts her eyes to you and to "Eddie?"
You couldn't be more fucking confused
"You knew each other?"
"We knew each other, Y/N"
"What?!?" You throw your hands up
"Hey, Buckley" he smirks at her
"Harrington" he salutes to him playfully
"Okay, let me get this straight, so- after all this time, the mystery fireman who saved you is Eddie Munson?!" Robin explains as you could see her mind connecting the dots
"He's our friend! Y/N!" Steve laughs harder while holding his stomach to your confusion
"Oh my god?!?" You slapped your hand over your mouth, as you begin to laugh as well
"Since when you get interested into the fire department?" Steve asks him intently
"Well- I"
"I thought you're out of town with your band?" Robin who is also confused
You turned your head around so quickly that you could feel your neck is about to break of what you just heard
"You have a band? Like a rock band?!?"
"It's metal, darling" he winks at you as you playfully roll your eyes
You feel butterflies at your stomach to all the nicknames that he's throwing at you like it was nothing
"Not that I don't want you back here is just that fire department is not your zone" Steve corrects his words
"It is his zone, he created a name for his band not only that in the fire department too! How fucking cool is that!" Robin made a high-five to Eddie as you sniggered to their interaction
"I get that, Harrington, since- well- the boys, Jeff & Gareth, wanted a break so each of us go to different places and I guess joined that is outside of music" he shrugs
"How come I didn't knew you before, Y/N?"
Robin and Steve shared a knowing look
"I'm here at Hawkins for over a year now"
Eddie thinks for a few moments "Oh, I was on a tour back then but wait- why didn't you guys tell me about her?"
"We've never gotten the chance to tell it to you" Robin says while she runs her fingers through her hair
"You're so busy with your band, man" Steve rests his hands on his hips
Eddie is convinced with that, he hums while he casually holds your hand
"I think it's safe to say that-"
"What?"
"That this is not a coincidence" he points to himself and to you
"But a destiny" he gestures his finger up with a devilish grin on his face
"My god, Eddie!" You laughed at his actions
Robin smirks at the both of you "Gosh, check out our girl" she nudges Steve as he shook his head
"Robs- Stop!" You laugh
"Y/N! You're glowing!"
Eddie agrees to her as he could see it as well, you're beautiful as always but right now? You're radiating because of him, his love for you
"Let's go to the diner and both of you could continue canoodling in there" Steve chuckles "I'm hungry" he adds
Robin has that eat-shitting grin you always despise
You both get up as Eddie offers his hand to hold you
"You picked the right guy, Y/N" Robin whispers to you as Eddie glares at her
"A rockstar, a strong fireman and plus he got himself a girl in the process? Teach me your ways, Munson" Steve continues to tease him
"This is why I fucking hate coming back to this town" he scoffs but a smile rests on his face
"But you missed us, don't you?" Robin pouts
"I'm afraid he doesn't even remember us at all, Robin- you know what happens to rockstars who forgets their old friends" Steve presses the teasing even harder
That was the last straw for Eddie
"Y'all both painfully annoying just shoo away!" Eddie threatens to kick them both but they started snickering away from him
You laugh at their commotion
He returns to you as he put his arm around your shoulder
"Don't listen to them" he chuckles as he sighs in relief
"So, I will get to be your rockstar's girlfriend?"
"If you'll have me" he pulls you into his side
This is too good to be true, you can't even think if this is reality or not
"What if I fall?"
"Sweetheart, I will always be there to catch you"
You smiled so sweetly at him and that is enough for Eddie as he kissed at the top of your head
Your grandma last words we're right
You did truly found a person that is yours and only yours forever and ever

@pxis sent: how long has he wanted to do this ? too long , really . how long has he been in the closet ? too long , too . he blames Robin for helping him out of it . really he thanks her for letting him out of it , because she's the one that's seen him staring at Eddie for too long . so that's probably how he ends up with fistfuls of Eddie's hair , cornering him at this party , lips locked together . somewhere , he's pretty sure Robin is saying ' FINALLY '
FRAT PARTIES ARE NOT HIS USUAL SCENE and he still has no real, logical reason as to why he agreed to come. Chrissy asked him to come along since she firmly believed he needed to expand his social circle. The two of them had been close since high school, Eddie ever grateful for the fact she'd stood up for him against the assholes surrounding them after he'd helped her out. Eddie was also not a college student but it was easy to sneak onto the campus when you were friends with a student. Unfortunately, Chrissy had soon abandoned him for a pretty girl she'd had her eyes on for...awhile. It seemed that not just students were at this frat party, but a bunch of locals as well.
One of them including Steve Harrington and Eddie tried really hard not to notice him. He'd had a crush on the guy for ages but he was pretty sure Steve was straight, if his dating life was anything to go by. From what Eddie had been able to glean, Steve played the field regularly and left a trail of broken hearts in his wake. Hetero dudes were the worst sometimes.
So when Steve approached him (more like bodied him into a corner) and kissed him, the taste of liquor on his lips, Eddie had been a little more than surprised. Fingers were in his hair, Steve's tongue in his mouth, and instead of pushing him away at first, he grabbed his hips and pulled him in closer. It was only when he needed to breathe that he broke the kiss and forced him back a couple of inches so Eddie could look at him.
❝ Jesus, Harrington, ❞ he gasped. ❝ If you wanted to make out with me all you had to do was ask. ❞ Eddie wouldn't have said no.

@kardiaerasti said: “ don’t touch me , please . ”
“You are bleeding,” Eddie scoffed. He rolled his eyes, a hand coming up to the other man’s shoulder and pushing him back down onto the chair he’d been on. “So unless you want to bleed out right here on the ground and draw in those fucking...things that bit you, I’m gonna have to touch you.” How in the ever loving fuck Billy was alive was a mystery Eddie hadn’t quite parsed. How either of them managed to survive thus far was equally mysterious. Not that he’d had a lot of time to work through it because since the moment he’d woken up, covered in dried blood, and still somehow conscious he’d been avoiding the creatures that lurked in this hellscape. Then he’d found Billy and, well, something close to relief had filled him. At least he wasn’t alone.
For the moment they were holed up in the Upside Down’s version of the Wheeler home, and Eddie had found a first aid kit in the bathroom. Eddie had done his fair share of patching himself up in the past so he had a little bit of an idea on how to do the same for Billy. He crouched in front of the other man and watched his face as he cleaned the wound the best he could with the antiseptic. Eddie wasn’t sure how much good it would do, but hopefully Billy wouldn’t become septic before they found a way out of here. “How?” he muttered as he worked. “How are you still alive?”
Eddie’s eyes lowered to the wound and his working hands, shaking his head. It didn’t make any sense. Harrington had told him how Billy had died. Speared through the chest by what they’d called the Mindflayer at the time. Shit, there was a gravesite for the guy. But here he was, totally, one hundred percent alive and Eddie was flabbergasted by that. It had occurred to him at first that maybe it was Vecna trying to get into his head, but that didn’t make sense. Eddie and Billy only knew each other in passing and by reputation. They had no connection to each other, no history to speak of. Surely he’d have chosen someone Eddie had loved or felt guilty about...like Chrissy.
He placed a clean gauze against the wound and bandaged it, sighing when it was done. “Well, I did the best I could. Hopefully it’s enough until we get the hell out of here.”

@fiercehearts sent: ⁉️ Send in " ⁉️ " for our muses to accidentally kiss || still accepting
They had been laughing about something. Eddie wasn’t even sure what it was. Probably their inexorable bad luck. Slightly morbid, maybe, but it felt good to actually be able to laugh about something. Somehow, they ended up close and when Eddie leaned over his lips brushed against Steve’s. It sent a spark through him and he reeled back.
“Oh shit...sorry...” Eddie muttered nervously. “I...I didn’t mean to do that.”

@upsidehell said: “ Maybe? ” Vicky admitted, eyes rolling at the goofy smile on their face.
Eddie couldn’t help the smile that brightened his features. He’d known Vicky since they were kids but this was different. He hadn’t ever really expected her to be attracted to him. And she was...she was gorgeous. Way out of his league. There was a thrill that moved through him at her admission and reached up to cup her cheek gently.
“Just maybe?” he asked. “So if I did kiss you right now, you’d be cool with that?”

@wearethesavages sent: [ HUSH ] prompts that make me go 👀 || accepting
HE COULD HERE THE SCREECH of the demobats in pursuit of them. It was a sound that sent a cold chill straight down Eddie's spine. What he really wanted to do was curl up into a ball and fade away. But he didn't have a choice in the matter. It was either run or be monster food. Neither was a great option. The best he and Steve could do was depend on each other to get back to his trailer and make it through the gate. The two of them had been separated from Nancy and Robin at some point and Eddie hoped they were okay.
Suddenly, Steve was grabbing onto him and pulling him behind a large rock. Eddie's back was against the surface of the rock, his heart pounding so hard he was worried the demobats would hear it. Steve's finger pressed to his lips and Eddie's eyes widened though he remained silent as the demobats flew past them. When their cries were distant, Eddie narrowed his eyes at the other man. ❝ I wasn't gonna scream at them to come find us, Harrington. Give me a little credit here. ❞

@upsidehell continued from here
Eddie’s hands automatically moved to rest on Vicky’s legs in his lap. He rolled his eyes at her quip. It was never a burden to have her here. In fact, she was one of his favorite people. Someone he’d known since childhood didn’t write him off as they go older. Vicky didn’t look at him like he was a freak. He was just Eddie. “Oh please. As if you weren’t going to stay the night anyway.”
“When have I ever made you sleep on the damn couch?” he asked, acting affronted though he wasn’t. “Guess we’ll just have to share the bed because I’m not sleeping on the couch either.” Eddie waggled his eyebrows at her teasingly. Not like it would be the first time.

It feels a little odd being back in what used to be “home” after all these years.
Unsurprisingly, things don’t look all that different despite it having been just shy of a decade since you were here last. It feels foreign but familiar. Steve jokes that Hawkins is the gutter of the Midwest. That it’s a grate that traps the town folk in life’s plentiful misfortunes.
As a twelve year old you didn’t know how dumpy Hawkins was, but it's apparent now. As you drive past Forest Hills Trailer Park your stomach twists into knots. Seeing your old stomping grounds brings an unpleasant feeling of sentimentality.
Over the years you’ve become good friends with Harrington and Buckley, mostly through writing letters and postcards. On one of the road trips Steve took to visit you, he brought Robin along and you’ve been close ever since. Not to mention you’ve spent plenty of late nights giggling with Robin over the phone. They felt like long-distance sleepovers.
Steve stands behind the kitchen island, chopping vegetables and preparing dinner for the three of you. “Hey, bub. Mind running to rent some movies for tonight? You can take Ruby.” He hesitates, holding the car keys away when you reach for them. “Be careful, please? If she comes back with so much as a scratch, your ass is grass. And by that I mean you’ll be sleeping in the front yard.”
“Yeah, yeah.” You roll your eyes and snatch the keys from his clutch. “Your precious car will return untouched. Cross my heart.” You mark an X over your chest for dramatic effect.
Robin shouts from the living room as you head out the front door. “Can you get The Breakfast Club? Oh! And some Twizzlers? Thanks, doll!”
The Family Video store opened some years after you’d left. Despite Steve’s incredibly vague directions, you luckily find your way.
The lights in the window of the tobacco shop pulse brightly, blinding you a bit as you park against the curb in the mostly empty lot. You hop out of the car and stroll inside Family Video to grab the requested items, putting them on Steve’s tab.
When you’re about to open the car door to leave, you freeze in place. Your eyes catch a silhouette that’s outlined by the striking lights. The figure shuffles and stamps out a cigarette on the bricks of the building.
Their stance is as stiff as a board, a posture you’d recognize anywhere.
“Munson?”
Eddie whips around to see who called his name, his jaw falling open in disbelief. He hardly recognizes you considering that you’re a young adult now. “No way. Wha-are you shitting me?”
You practically run into his arms and he embraces you, your feet lifting off of the ground. “I’ll be damned!” He beams while letting you down but keeping you at arm's length. “Jesus-look at you! You’re so-” Developed, he thought.
You're smiling so wide that your cheeks ache. “Me? Oh my god, no. Look at you! Look at all this hair!” You chuckle, twirling one of his frizzy curls around your finger.
He typically doesn't let people touch his hair but he doesn’t mind at the moment. “What, expected the buzzed watermelon look?”
“Your head was always melon-sized, you’re right about that.” You chuckle. “It’s surprisingly soft.” You spoke too soon. He hisses at your finger catching a knot, so you gently brush through it with your fingers.
Eddie’s eyes study you, his heart thumping painfully. He’s overwhelmed by your presence and his palms start to sweat. The conversation progressed quickly, the two of you fondly recalling the old days. You hold onto his bicep while you laugh about pranking your neighbors with firecrackers and hanging out at the bakery you frequented together. You remember how he’d always get jelly on his face from the doughnuts.
Considering you lived a few trailers down, becoming friends was a no-brainer. He was never much of a daredevil but he loved getting a rush with you in the sleepy town, you felt no different. Shenanigans ensued and you even built a fort in the woods beside the trailer park. There was never a dull moment by your side, be it good or bad.
Most middle schoolers are self-conscious and constantly searching for validation, but not you. You never cared what other people thought of you. You were always true to yourself and unapologetically authentic. More importantly, you never judged Eddie. Your acceptance meant the world to him. From the start, you made it clear that he didn’t have to be anyone but himself around you.
He’s carried that outlook through the entirety of his school career. Always brushing off his peers’ jabs and remarks. He stood his ground and kept his friends close. Eventually, he instilled that very lesson in the freshman he took under his wings. He passed your wisdom onto them, that trying to be someone you’re not isn’t worth it in the long run.
You tilt your head at him. “I’m surprised to see you! I thought you’d have gotten out of here ASAP after graduating.”
Eddie is ashamed and doesn’t want to admit to graduating only four months ago. He shrugs, “Uh-yeah. Gotta stick around for Wayne, y’know?” It’s the best lie he could think of on the spot.
His wristwatch beeps, signaling the new hour. You take his wrist into your hand and look at the time. “Oh, shit. I should get going.” You sigh, wanting to be back in a timely manner so as not to worry Steve and Robin.
After swinging the car door open and plopping into the driver’s seat, you yell out of the rolled-down window. “See you around!”
Eddie hollers. “Wait!” Before he could say anything else you’ve pulled away and driven out of the parking lot. His mind races with your last sentence hanging in the air. See you around.
Once you get back to Steve’s the three of you enjoy dinner while watching the movie. Initially, Steve scoffed at having to watch it again but he wasn’t going to get Robin revved up about its impactful societal commentary.
You’re giddy and cheerful the remainder of the evening until the movie got to the part where Andrew Clark says to John Bender, “If you disappeared forever it wouldn’t make any difference. You may as well not even exist…”
That’s when it dawns on you. It was on purpose.
It’s been four days since running into Eddie. Because you’re staying with Steve, you’re obligated to be at his Halloween party, given it’s being held at his house. You put on your best “I’m social and parties are delightful” attitude because you know Steve is looking forward to introducing you to the rest of his friends.
The afternoon was spent putting the finishing touches on the decorations. Steve is visibly eager to have his gaggle of pals together for a night of spooky festivities.
Robin arrives with Tupperware stacked in her arms, full of creepy goodies she made herself. Cookies that resemble witch fingers, candy corn-colored Rice Krispie treats, and caramel popcorn balls.
Music blares from the stereo in the living room. You’re seated on the couch talking with Steve who’s leaning against the fireplace mantel that’s strung with faux cobwebs. Eddie strides through the front door with a case of beer balancing on his shoulder.
Eddie isn’t used to attending parties for fun. Usually, he goes to make money off of teens who are too plastered to bargain a reasonable price for weak bud. He pretends to hate costumes but the geek in him secretly loves dressing up.
“You both came as zombies?” Steve groans. “How creative.”
Dustin wraps his arms around Eddie’s torso, hugging him so tightly that Eddie groans in discomfort.
You turn to see who Steve is addressing and Eddie looks at you with an indiscernible look in his eyes. He can’t believe it. Not only are you here, but you’re both dressed as Eddie the Head from The Number of The Beast album. It’s a fairly simple costume, a white t-shirt with jeans and a little makeup, but it makes his chest throb in adoration for your shared interest in music.
You don’t look at him for long. Instead, you flash him a polite grin and turn back to Steve, continuing the conversation. Eddie was expecting you to run into his arms like before but you remained seated. A shockwave of dread jolts through his extremities. He knows you’ve got a bone to pick with him for what he did.
Later during the party, you find yourself in the kitchen chatting with Steve, Robin, and Nancy while the youngsters are hanging out in the living room. The heated debate about whether trail mix should contain peanuts or not lacks your participation. You’re more so listening than contributing. You lean against the counter, quietly snapping your fingers at your side. You’ve been doing well so far but you’re starting to feel anxious because your social battery is running low.
Eddie walks into the room and recognizes your nervous habit immediately. He recalls how you get overstimulated by loud music and commotion. The freshman running through the kitchen, shouting and laughing puts you further on edge.
Eddie can tell you must’ve never found someone who loved you enough to teach you how to cope like he’d hoped would happen. It makes his heart heavy knowing you’re still dealing with anxiety after all these years. It makes him wonder how often you must’ve needed him and he wasn’t there for you. He thought removing himself from your life was in your best interest. He assumed you’d be off doing bigger and better things without him in the way. Somehow he failed to realize how much he hurt you.
You were always there for him. Especially the afternoon that the two of you were reading Lord of the Rings in your fort in the woods. Shouting rumbled off in the distance. Both of you got to your feet and walked a few steps to the tree line to see what the racket was.
Earl Munson, Eddie’s father, had shown up unannounced and belligerently drunk.
“Fuckin’... fuckin’ good for nothing son of a bitch!” Earl roared.
Wayne could be heard yelling back at him. “Cops will be here any minute, you better… don’t you swing on me! Motherfu- drunk bastard!”
You clung to Eddie and he held onto you twice as tightly. Watching his deadbeat father behave erratically wasn’t something that was easy to look away from. Chief Hopper and another deputy showed up quickly due to there being a warrant out for Earl. He intensely resisted arrest, making one hell of a scene. Eddie cried that day, and you’re still the only one who knows about it.
“Here, c’mon. Let’s go outside.” Eddie whispers, gently taking your hand and guiding you outside to the back porch. He knows you need fresh air. Generally, he’s ecstatic to finally get you alone after watching you all night but he’s unnerved about the inevitable conversation about to unfold.
“So-uh.” He rubs his hands nervously, conveniently generating heat to fight the evening autumn breeze.
"Now you wanna talk? So fitting." The feelings of abandonment threaten your composure. “I tried calling, y’know. Quite a few times, actually.” You cross your arms in anticipation of whatever excuses he’s going to give.
Eddie avoids eye contact and shifts his weight between the balls of his feet. Struggling to find the right words to explain. “Sometimes… I think it’s just easier for people if I’m not around. I figured I’d do you a favor.”
A favor. Your breathing quakes as the words reverberate in your mind, the remaining anxiety pushing you over the edge into bitterness. He wasn’t busy and his phone number hadn’t changed. He meant to do it.
At the time, it was obvious to him that you were a force to be reckoned with. You’d been lucky enough to get out of Hawkins and he didn’t want to hold you back. He knew you’d conquer the world while chasing your dreams.
“You intentionally ignored me. That’s what you’re saying?” Tears roll down your cheeks but you keep your expression as neutral as possible. “That’s it, huh? You decided you were done with me?”
“No!” His eyes meet yours with bold intensity. “I said I would never let you go. I pinky promised, matter of fact. I never let go. There wasn’t a single fucking day that went by that I didn’t think about you.”
“Oh? And not a single day did you call me, or write me!” You huff. “Eight years, Ed! Eight whole fucking years.” Your face is glowing red with frustration. “You made me question myself and my worth. You made me feel like I did something wrong.”
The ache in your chest comes back stronger than ever, thinking about all of the nights you spent curled up in your bed with tears pooling under your eyes. You felt so alone without your best friend by your side. Eddie assumed you were adjusting to your new life, but you were suffering. As time went on, you managed. Except, the only thing ignoring you did was teach you how to live without him.
Eddie’s own tears begin to fall, guilt burying him beneath the earth’s surface. He feels like he’s suffocating, soil clouding his lungs as he watches your expression break while reliving the betrayal. “I-I love you.” It’s all he can muster, his tone sounds remorseful despite not actively apologizing.
“Don’t! Don’t you dare.” You snap at him while wiping your cheeks roughly. Putting your walls back up and braving forward. “If you loved me you wouldn’t have vanished. You don’t… you don’t abandon someone that you love.”
Eddie does love you. But at this point, it doesn’t matter. The damage has been done.
“Just let me explain, please.” He sobs and reaches for your hands. Even though he used his pain as an excuse to justify hurting you, he is sincerely penitent.
You let him take one of your hands into his large palms. His grip is trembling. He’s coming apart at the seams.
“No need.” You fixate your gaze on his fingers mindlessly stroking yours. “If anything I should thank you.”
Eddie’s eyebrows knit together in confusion, his eyes closely watching your mouth as if he could see the words falling from your lips.
With a deep breath, you meet his gaze and continue. “I learned the difference between being patient and wasting my time. Day after day I sat by the phone and waited. That was a waste of time. You taught me that.”
Eddie sniffles loudly, letting your words sink into his skin with the sting of the pain they harbor. “I won’t fuck up this time, okay? Give me another chance, please.”
You ignore his plea. You can’t trust that he won’t do the same thing again. “Ed, I won’t forget what we had, you made that time in my life so special.” You begin to withdraw your hand.
He stops your fingers from slipping through his. “Please- just. Don’t regret me.”
You flash him an unconvincing grin and avert your eyes before turning and disappearing back into the house. He doesn't see you for the rest of the night. The look you gave him was your goodbye, and it was the final one.
After driving home once the party is over, he sits in his van and cries harder than he has in years.
Eddie was wrong about you not needing him back then, but you sure as hell don’t need him now.
