☼ and ☄️ for vault fic please !

☼: how i came up with the idea

i don't remember where the specific idea came from - i think it probably started because i was thinking about hewitt? it just struck me as so incredibly sad for him to be beloved in a warm and genuine way, and for that to catapult him into the vault. i remember picking sosa out pretty quickly because i was fascinated by that story - alive for one game and then immediately tossed into the vault. and i distinctly remember deciding i needed a third person to round out the dynamics, so i opened the vault page on the website and scrolled through and as soon as i saw york's name i went. OH!

the ideas for the vault itself, as i have said before, come from an episode of the twilight zone about a criminal who dies in a shootout and is put into what he assumes to be heaven. it's a lovely perfect neighborhood full of beautiful women and people who like him and banks that let him rob them, but he quickly gets bored with all of this stuff and asks his guardian angel if he can visit hell, just to see what it's like, and the angel replies "who ever told you this was heaven?" and reveals that he's been in hell the whole time. so that's where the vault started!

☄: what the writing process was like

uhhhh long! it was long. i started writing this fic in august, i had an opening scene that i was really happy with and felt good about, and then just... stalled out. i had a couple of longer-term things (like kranchmas and the big bang) that had deadlines, and i was also slowly dying due to classes, so vault fic fell by the wayside.

but the trio was always in the back of my head and i always intended to finish. and then one day in january i was sitting there idly thinking about it and a conversation popped into my head fully formed. i wrote basically the entire monologue from york about turning to gold straight into the notes app of my phone, and then i realized that writing this story in chronological order was killing me, and so i decided to go out of order, which i rarely do. but it worked! i wrote whatever i felt like, and if i didn't feel like writing then i didn't write. i have another one of these in my askbox so i will get into formatting and some more spoiler-heavy stuff there but yeah this was a long process but it was worth it.
