It was not unusual for Joker to find strangers wandering around the grounds. They were a circus, after all, and their entire livelihood depended on attracting members of the public. However, he did not expect to find someone this late into the evening, especially since there had been no show tonight so there was no reason for anyone other than the circus members to be around.

Was he lost, perhaps? But even that seemed unlikely, as this time the troupe had set up away from any large towns or cities. As far as he knew there were no residential areas nearby either, so there should not have been anyone around for miles.

          ❛ ‘Scuse me, sir! Are ye alright? Is there somethin’ ye need help with? ❜

Joker only smiled, knowing full well that Dagger wasn’t really mad at him. At least, not yet.

           ❛ Ye know ye don’ mean that. I’m only bein’ fair. If ye didn’ want to be made to clean up, ye should’ve been payin’ more attention durin’ today’s practice. Nothin’ mean about that, is there Dog- ah, I mean, Dagger? ❜

If Dagger wasn’t angry before, he probably was now.

After he had managed to shake the snow out of his shirt, Joker not so casually pelted Dagger as hard as he could with a snowball.

Joker approached him with his usual cheery expression, one that betrayed none of the horrors he was forced to participate in to protect those back at the workhouse.

“Last night I dreamed of everyone suddenly gone.”

Joker put his arm around his little brother’s shoulders, trying to reassure him that he would never be left alone. After all that they had been through, Joker would rather lay down his life for his siblings than ever leave one of them behind.

          ❛ It’s alright, it was only a dream. Yer our brother, and we’d never leave ye alone. The circus jus’ wouldn’ be the same without ye around to brighten up the mood, now would it? ❜

As with every time one of the circus’s shows finished, Joker made sure to do a quick patrol around the tents and keep visitors away from the private tents.

           ❛ Are ye lost? ❜ he called. A quick glance around the grounds proved fruitless, as he was unable to see any adult who may have been with her.

Joker was unsure as to why someone so young would be allowed to come here unaccompanied, especially with the string of disappearances associated with the circus, so had come to the conclusion that she must have gotren lost and wandered in accidentally.

           ❛ The show finished quite a while ago, I’m afraid. Ye shouldn’ still be hangin’ around ‘ere. ❜

If Doll didn’t like the thunder and lightening, Joker would do anything he could to help her, including sacrificing his own sleep.
