when veronica thompson's addiction begins hitting new lows (or new highs?) the family nanny can no longer hold her tongue, sitting on her hands waiting for the press to catch wind of the negligence of the thompson parents. the nanny contacts social services and after a thorough investigation, tiffany, arlo and bambi are all sent to live with their distant relatives in the countryside. growing up away from the flashing lights and the pressure of fame, of living up to their parent's names, the thompson kids all pursue ordinary lives.

after graduating uni, arlo decides to strike out on his own, and moves back to london. he works at his former professor's small bookstore for three years, at which point his professor decides he's ready to retire with his wife and wishes to sell. with his personal savings from working most of his life, and the money the thompson kids get from their estranged parents, at 23, arlo buys the bookstore and fully rebrands the place as his own: an indie bookstore with an attached café bistro, BOOKS, BEANS & OTHER THINGS is arlo thompson's pride and joy. his sisters help him run the place, with tiffany helping manage the bookstore, and bambi helping run the café.
