closed starter for @n1ghtsongs ( alaric )
a relationship once started for the entirety of pissing of his sister and high lady was something that the lord of summer hadn't anticipated that he would grow to be fond of. the more time that he spent with the scholar the more he grew to be fond of them. dating someone from the capital's inner circle was certainly one way to piss off his sister, but it also left him torn. wanting to support the scholar but at the same time he was still with the summer court's stance. conflicting feelings shoved aside as the lord spots the other in the dusk court. "alaric i am relieved to see you." the lord soften as he approached them. "are you well?"

if there was anyone for kris to truly be resentful of, it was their shared father. instead he still harbored feelings of both jealousy and resentment towards his eldest sister, the current high lady of the summer court. it had never been that he had wanted her position, but just the lack of attention that their father gave him drove him to do the things that he did. acting out to gain the attention of their father as an adolescent, continuing to act out now as a way to gather reactions of his siblings. especially that of those older than he was. the dusk court was probably not the place for the second youngest to be messing around truly. uncharted territory and not to mention the fact that there was giant reptiles that could easily put a stop to the antics that he got up to. however it hadn't been enough to make him consider that his actions could have some serious consequences. since their arrival in the dusk court he'd had the guard noah assigned to him almost constantly, the doing of his sister of course. "stop making him follow me around." he demanded of the older. "i don't need a babysitter."

kris would be lying if he wasn't looking for some sort of way to cause trouble for his sister at the celebration. he'd yet to truly find something that he could get a reaction out of the summer high lady. walking around the gardens he spotted a familiar fae in the crowd. "what have you dressed yourself as?"

second youngest of the dragomir half siblings, kris grew up feeling very neglected by his father. from a young age he began acting out to gain the attention of his father. when each thing really failed to get his attention, he would amp up his antics. many guards were assigned to him throughout his years growing up in the castle. several of those guards definitely quit or asked to be reassigned, too tired to deal with all of his shit. kris never really considered himself to be close to any of his siblings, most by his choice some by the choice of their father. even until now he wouldn't consider himself to be close with any of them. not that he doesn't truly want to be closer with them, but he'd put up walls between them all that will take some time to work on those relationships with his siblings.

the dragons were an interesting portion of the dusk court. a powerful beast that the court seemed to work with closely. the second youngest of the dragomir's was definitely intrigued by the flying reptiles. however he was not stupid enough, like his sister believed him to be, to even have the forethought of trying to approach one of them.
summer having something like that in their grasp would probably be beneficial, however that wasn't something that he even had the right to make that decision. that would be up to his high lady. though he didn't think that alina would even have remotely thought of wanting to commandeer the beasts to be a part of summer. the only thing that he could hope was that the commander would talk with the high lady before he made any moves.
"until the dusk court chooses to reveal more about them, i will not be attempting to approach one of them. besides if i did, and miraculously survived it alina would have me locked in a cell." while kris loved to be a problem to his older sister, he wouldn't go and try to get himself killed.
kris had never once doubted the magic choosing alina after legion's passing. it was never something that he had wanted for himself. he may have been jealous that he hadn't been given the attention that the eldest two had gotten from their father, and maybe if he had he would have been more regretful over not getting the high lord position. however because of the lack of training from legion he knew that he was not fit to be the high lord. alina was more than capable as the high lady, even dealing with all of her reckless siblings.
"perhaps they are more alike to the other courts, summer included." from everything that they had seen of the dusk court it didn't seem that the high lord wanted them out or to start anything. the invite to their celebration of all hallow's eve was sign enough to the lord that they didn't hold the hardest of feelings towards their unexpected guests.
"there is someone. though he was found in the capital, just continued when we got here." the source of tension that he had with alina at the very moment. the gaean scholar chosen as a ploy to bother the high lady slowly turning into the most genuine connection that the lord had ever had with anyone. "i'm sure my sister has been keeping you busy as well?"
THE DRAGONS seemed to have been of everyone's interest & Cetus was no different. Though, his interest ran deeper than pure admiration, or fear ( he felt none. ), or whatever it is they all say when they would look up to the sky to the winged creatures.
he saw power.
Pure, uncontrolled but controllable power. He was already devising plans on how to approach one without becoming their meal. He doubted the Dusk court fae left their beasts unprotected, even if the dragons could more than well enough fend for themselves.
"It would seem unwise, yes." Cetus mused, "I imagine there would be many traps laid around them, not to mention the beast itself. I wonder how quick they'd burn everything to cinders."
Shaking his head with a chuckle at the image that formed in his head, the Second tilted his head to oserve the young Lord. It was a tie - between Kris & Alina, but he wondered if magic made a good choice. Perhaps if the youngling was High, he would've released Cetus to go where he wished to be -
someplace much darker than Summer.
"It is all rather dull, isn't it? One would expect more of a mythical court. Though it does bring other questions to the table... Unimportant for now, though." he shook the though from his mind.
"I hope at least you've found something to occupy your time here?"

"you have." he hums with a subtle nod of his head. the poetic words of the scholar was definitely something that left the summer lord feeling light and in love. never once expecting to find such a connection with one person from a place that wouldn't have been his first choice to look for. though there was turmoil with his older sister over his involvement with the gaean it hadn't remotely stopped his heart from longing for the scholar. "youth, hotheadedness, and power do not go hand in hand, yes." the admit of what the king was thinking was definitely a trust from the scholar, one that kris was not about to throw around lightly. though a small portion of him wanted to inform alina of the statement, however he wouldn't. more so because of her distaste for his own relationship. "this is something very well known to the summer court. myself included."
“i have seen the passion of the summer court firsthand.” although alaric did not weave poems on the regular, kris encouraged such things to bloom from his heart and his tongue. he could sigh with the happiness coursing through him, the logical portions of his mind shutting down to make way for the soft of it. the cradle of his cheek emboldens him. others wouldn't be able to get an answer edgewise out of the scribe, but kris has no need to fight against those stoic defences, for they drop away entirely. “from what i understand …” he glances back and forth, and then drops his voice. “… the king is very eager. he is being warned to be cautious, but youth and hot - headedness don't go hand in hand when there is excitement.” he does not like to speak ill of his king, but this is not speaking ill, it is truth. and he trusted kris, with his life. “the unknown thrills some and terrifies others.”

"i did not ask to be the high lady's younger brother. however i am not as stupid as you paint me to be. i have not revealed anything of our court or you to anyone that has asked nor will i in the future." if the younger male was being honest it hurt that she thought he'd be stupid enough to put her or his court in a position of danger. even if he was actively falling in love with the scholar of gaea. even with the scholar he hadn't revealed anything that would be harmful to the summer court. it was still his home and his family was there even if he was upset with the elder for not including him in things. especially that of the fact the two eldest got all of their father's attention while he was cast aside as a by product of his short lived relationship with his mother. kris understood that she was stressed about being in the unknown of the dusk court but he wouldn't let her treat him like he was a toddler in a foreign place. "i know that i am reckless and i make decisions before i think alina, however i wouldn't do something that will bring harm to myself. believe it or not i actually do enjoy being alive." the things that he gets into is purely to spite the high lady, to raise her blood pressure. not to worry her that he would have an untimely death in whatever place that they found themselves. "i won't really ever be an elder sibling, you already know that. besides no one else needs to be brought into this fucked up family. alaric has done absolutely nothing wrong, the only thing he has done is bring me some sort of happiness throughout all of this. he works for the king, yes. but he has not once asked me to leave the summer court and join him. or done anything that could warrant you denying my seeing him."
"that naive thought is because you're far too young and too trusting to realize what cruelty others are capable of. nor have you grasped fully what sort of position you are in being a high lady's brother. do you know how many who would seek to take advantage of your innocence? i speak of you, as well as julissa." she firmly believed this of kris and julissa, both the youngest, and the two who viewed world in a rose-tinted gaze that alina had no choice but to worry the most of them. perhaps a part of her should be relieved that they were not jaded as she, and as the elder remaining dragomir siblings were. it was not her desire to shatter their illusion of such, and when she could prevent it, she did not intervene, but here in all the unknown? all these fae of the other courts they had yet to mingle with and now they were all becoming so attached to these strangers, it was a deep rooted fear that took ahold for the high lady of summer. yet when her little speaks of having some faith, there's a tightening in her chest that makes itself known. "it's not about faith, kris, it's about not knowing what to expect in our surroundings. you are not a danger to others, but you are a danger to yourself, and in this court particularly." there is a pause as she meets his anger-ridden hues, "it's not my lack of faith in you, it's my lack of faith in others around you, including your scholar. you won't understand until you are a elder sibling, you will have to trust me on this. you are right, he might be harmless, but you nor i have a proper way of knowing this."

kris is more that aware that having a guard watching his every move would be nerve wracking to the other. especially if his older sister gave such a simple command to separate the two of them. a part of him hoped that alina wouldn't step in. that she'd take the words of the guard and just continue to remain watchful over the pair. while the second youngest had entered into this relationship to purely piss off his sister it had grown into something much more. the scholar being someone that the summer lord cared for more than just about anything. "they tend to associate the fire with passion, though that does not mean that the summer court is not passionate about their beliefs and people." the smile upon the summer lord's lips only growing as the other steals a kiss. his hand remaining on the other's cheek as he continues in their conversation. "i guess that the king would want to be on top of that. are they wanting to bring the dusk under their control as well?" he asks the other, mostly curious to what the plan was with the dusk court. "i wish that we could."
“until is the key phrase there.” but if kris was unconcerned, then alaric would be also. he did not wish to cause more strife amongst the members of the summer court, and once upon a time, imagined he wouldn't be in the thicket of it. oh, the things you are all too willing to do for love. “autumn might be the court known for its passion and fire, but summer is not to be underestimated. especially not you. i grow warm with the sun you cast from yourself when you make demands like that.” kris and his soft touch of gratitude propelled alaric forwards, emboldening the scribe to press the summer lord's hand more firmly to his cheek, drift into his space, and press his smile against kris's mouth in just as tender of a stolen kiss. perhaps the most daring move yet. “it's only a matter of time before the circle is called to discuss a plan of action with the dusk court." a pause. keeping him close, kris's hand within alaric's, a press of fingerprints to knuckles. “when are we running away together?” in jest, mostly. wishing to be one of those who avoided responsibility and tension.

there's a part of kris that believes that there is more to the story between his elder siblings and their father. however being that he's never once been told of these things all he has to go off of is the memories that he has of his father, or lack there of. instead he was cast aside as he often still feels now that their father is gone. nothing more than a want to be included in things. that was all that it really boiled down to. admittedly kris didn't want to be the high lord of summer, he just wanted to feel as though his family cared about him. it was too late to get that from his father. "how would my relationship concern my well being? he is not going to do anything to me." other than literally softening his heart as each day passes. if he had truly wanted to piss alina off more and cause harm with the person he chose to be in a relationship with he would have sought out someone who held a higher position within the inner circle. while dating alaric had been started as a way to piss off alina, it shouldn't have been that big of a deal that he was with a scholar. but now he cared deeply for the gaean. "i'm not reckless enough to endanger myself or others. i may have a dangerous sense of adventure however i am not stupid. i would hope you had enough faith in your brother to believe that."
the high lady was aware how it looked to her siblings, at least the younger ones. alina was the favorite child of the late high lord of summer, yet no one but the eldest two knew the truth of their father. she might be his preferred child, but not for the reason they would all believe, it was simply that when sunan could not produce the power their father had wanted, he simply shifted that agenda onto alina. for a time, she had witnessed a far more caring side to him, when her mother had been alive, his selfishness and cruelty had simply been subdued. it was only a matter of time before his true colors began to show, and show, they had. still, she did not know what ceased her from explaining to kris why he had been better off with legion dragomir. then, she had not even began to uncover all that with the rest of her siblings. even ner, some days, alina would catch the question in her gaze and so often the words would be at the tip of her tongue. to let this off of her chest to ner, but each time something stopped the high lady. a soft sigh falls from her lips, "it is my business if it concerns your well-being." she had no proof yet that this gaean scholar was unsavory character, that would be noah's task to uncover. oh, but the irony of her words was not lost on her. "your track record says otherwise." she countered rather calmly, "you are correct, you have not been in the wake of a disaster." yet. "it's not about faith, it is about your dangerous sense of adventure. I trust you will be careful because your not on familiar lands."

"noah is harmless until my sister assigns him to do something." the lord is unconcerned when it comes to the guard, he is nothing more than a puppet for his sister. alina was the one to worry about. sure that she was already made aware of what has happening between the lord and the gaean. even if for some reason the high lady of summer was successful in separating them he would let it happen slightly. "i will not allow her to have you thrown in a cell." he knows that alina wants to fix things between them, but the last thing he'll let her do is control his life. "she's keeping you busy is she?" he can't blame the queen mother for having things to ask of the scholar through all of this. kris would love if he could spend all of his time with the scholar. "thank you." he responds as he reaches his hand to caress the other's cheek.
“they did. we've not been forgotten about.” there, a seed embedded within, though alaric would not give voice to it: if we are not near each other, will we forget? he dares to hope otherwise, and that may be foolish. a disgruntled scoff, though he covered it with a pressing of his hand to his hair. “if i'm suddenly thrown into a cell, we'll know who to blame. i hope noah doesn't swoop down upon us.” for their hours shortened, even when the nights grew longer, and alaric, longing disguised in the firelight, should not be so easily smitten, but here he was. summer prince in his fire - glory, and alaric would write of it. poetic lines, nonsense, even. “my mind has been kept very busy, for the queen mother has much to ask of me. but there's always a part of me thinking of you.” well, if there be eavesdroppers, and a cell awaiting, then at least he would be forthright, pulse fluttering in his throat. “and how can i not? when now, you sparkle as your court's water does.”

lack of true communication between the dragomir siblings was the exact reason that the young lord acted the way that he did. an imagined image of what their father was to them and what he truly was to him. especially that of alina, she was the one that got all of his attention. one of the few that would likely take over for him after his reign was done. however all that kris had seen was them getting all of his attention while he was nothing more than the product of yet another woman that their father had been with. wiping out any trace of their father when she had become the high lady of their court. the youngest male of the dragomir siblings acting out in response to everything that she did born out of nothing but pure jealousy. "my involvement with him is absolutely none of your business alina." kris spat back at his older sister. choosing to not reveal that he did in fact start the relationship with alaric for the exact reason of pissing alina off. the more time he had spent with the scholar the more he had fallen for him. "what the hell do i care about noah? you're the one who keeps making him follow me. i might cause trouble for the shits and giggles of it all but i am not stupid enough to do something catastrophic. shouldn't you have a little more faith in your little brother?".
the situation was certainly not helped that alina could never fully bring herself to communicate with her siblings. there were memories she had kept locked away and buried under the darkest corners of her mind believing that thinking back would only breed more misery. or that the high lady simply did not wish to re-live the darkest period of her life. legion dragomir was gone, and she had worked from the moment she became high ruler of the summer court to wipe away his very memory. tearing down the rooms he occupied and rebuilding them to her liking. perhaps that it was best that the youngest dragomirs did not know what he was like truly, the monster that hid behind the face. that most days it was far easier to deal with kris and his antics and reckless behavior than it was to explain to him how their father was and why he was better off not receiving the late high lord's attention. then there were moments as such that made her question her previous train of thought. assigning noah to her brother was both of keeping him in line and keeping him out of danger. that her fear for any harm befalling on her siblings was enough for her to accept their ire towards her if it kept them safe. "such as your involvement with the gaen scholar to what? provoke me?" her words were deathly calm as her remained glued to her little brother. it was troublesome, but she hid her distaste in favor of drawing a response from him. "perhaps becoming familiar with your surroundings? expand your horizons, little brother. or the very least, not to make your guard's life difficult given our circumstances."

kris wouldn't put it past noah to literally follow him around the castle. the guard being fully under his sister's control, a brown nosing guard that he wasn't fond of having him assigned to him. did he understand his sister's concern of him? of course he did, when he went looking for trouble in just about anything it was more than understandable to be concerned about him. "noah would follow me every where i went if he were told to." kris laughed in response. eyes locked on the scholar as the light of the fire dances across his skin. "i'm sure that he has already relayed the information of us to my sister." which he wasn't surprised about, the relationships beginning was meant to be known to the high lady of summer. "did the dusk court put gaea up in the castle as well?" kris wasn't sure if maybe they had been given different accommodations however he didn't feel his was the same. "there is a lot to take in of the dusk court at once."
softened nod to follow, firelight in caress against kris's face, which drew alaric's eyes to caressing him, as he might with fingertips in another place. acute awareness of this display, though alaric himself refused to resist temptation, letting closeness continue to reign with the lord of summer. ( quite a dangerous game, wasn't it? looming in the shadows, perhaps worse than the beasts within the court. ) “i'm shocked they aren't following you around the grand hall.” murmured. he did not remember when most things he murmured became for kris's attentions only. when love snuck up on his heels and nipped at him. “i'm fine. i promise. bedsore, as i'm beginning to think the dusk court mattresses are stuff with the straw of scarecrows. but fine. though they have my attentions in a million directions.” and he only wished for it to be in one place, costume heavy as a sword.

starting their relationship was meant to be another way to piss of his sister, and it likely did. however feelings had somehow sparked within them. grown fond of the other in the short time they had been together. now a fear growing that the other would be taken away from him at some point. being banned from seeing the other was something that could happen, however he was sure that alina wouldn't bother as it wouldn't actually stop him from seeing the other. "you're okay though right?" he asked the other. "alina has assigned a guard to me almost twenty four seven, but no questions yet."
for alaric, fondness didn't ever bloom, for focus remained upon his work, keeping in step with those of his inner circle. ensuring strength and devotion. now, devotion had another name, and another tie, and if he believed in such things, he might name it red string to wrist. magnetism drawing him towards lord of summer, the kind of face which alaric might call illusion if not for his nearness. softened words and goosebumps alight on the back of alaric's neck, beneath the nape of dark hair. “and i'm relieved to see you. when it first happened, i believed the worst.” gruffness, usual on his expression, but none to be seen here, if one peered close enough. ( kris always managed to. ) hand reached for arm, but hesitated in lifting. a glance around. “has your family suffocated you yet with questions and hovering?”

kris definitely did not make it easy for his sister and high lady. nothing more than a childish way of acting out his feelings. the lack of attention from their father was something that the second youngest despised about his life. even more despising that he let something as stupid as daddy issues actually dictate his life. acting out to gain attention had become his way of life, even though in his formative years it did absolutely nothing. he was no where close to being in line for the position of the high lord as the second youngest of all of the siblings. knowing that he was nothing more than a blink in time to his father was what he hated the most. taking it out on his sister now wasn't the appropriate way to go about it, however he had never really been reprimanded for his actions by his father that he just continued it on into his sister's reign over the summer court. making her life more difficult through all of the shocking things that had been happening within prythian as of late. he can't blame her for assigning a guard to him near constantly in the court that they had no idea about. "what do my actions and behaviour have to do with you?" he retorted knowing very well that he was a representation of the summer court still. "where do you suggest i focus my concerns then alina?"
she did not anticipate in the slightest that it would be an easy task, to speak to her siblings, some more than others it seemed. their eldest did his best to avoid alina until he could not, and her younger brother seemed to intent on keeping the high lady on her toes with worry. each of their siblings had their methods of dealing with a neglectful father, which is not something she had wanted for them, but if any of the younger dragomirs had known what legion was truly like, they would see it as a blessing to not have his attention. being overlooked by him was a far better outcome than the former. the younger dragomirs did need their father, only that he was not the father that would have done them any good. still, she had a thought or two as to why kris seemed to do everything and anything under the sun , perhaps a outcome of their childhood, and his own feelings for his eldest sister. she did often wonder was this kris' way of punishing her for failing him. there were far more moments where alina wished to shake him, mostly for his own good, but she also knew if she did anything further it would likely makes things worse. as it was with her siblings, each time she laid eyes on them, the incessant ache in her chest remained a constant. "is that so? then why do your actions and behave prove otherwise?" her words while frank, but not harsh. she had tried that once, it did not yield what she had desired. "i do not trust this court nor their faes, until i am certain they do not intend hurt us the moment we let out guard down, you will have guards. i suggest you focus your concern elsewhere, kris."

kris never once had questioned the magic's choice of alina as the high lady. the high lord role was not something that he had ever wanted for his life. besides he had never been given the education from his own father to be suitable to the throne. was that a large part of why he resented his older siblings? yes, they got all of the attention rather than it being shared between the six children of legion.
keeping cetus as the second in command was a choice that the younger male had not expected. expecting her to choose someone else, someone that hadn't worked so closely with their father. part of him thought maybe that was part of their father's wish for when she became the high lady. kris wasn't really sure of that, and that was something that he didn't get to talk to alina about.
"nothing that interesting here, besides the dragons." the dusk court wasn't anything that excited the young summer lord. the only thing, well person, that held his true attention was the gaean scholar. "though not enough to attempt to approach one of them."
location: dusk court. summer quarters. time: early night. with: @ethercvl , kris.
IT WAS a hilarious thing. Magic. The way it chose some over the other & it seems it never took goodness of one's heart over the sheer, wild power in the veins. He knew many a wicked rulers who ruled for mere years before their citizens would find a way to cast them into death. He saw many good bloodlines go to waste, simply because their power was not as vast or dominant as it was in the veins of those who hungered for it.
he still did not know where to place his new little lord.
It seemed like only moments have passed while he served as Second to his father, but it's been quite some time now that the youngling became the High Lord & decided to keep Cetus as his Second.
how novel.
Still, unlike his sentiment about the rest of the world, Cetus was inclined to support his new lord, especially since under his reign the Ancient One was propelled to this new court - even if the magic was a little off, the taste of something new was... intriguing.
"Have you found anything of interest to you here, my Lord? I find them lacking in quite a few things, but the winged pets... at least they are a refreshing sight."
