WOL Questions! Who was your WOL before meeting the Scions? Are there any relationships/friends maintained outside of the Scions throughout the story?

Sooo... Before meeting the scions, Roi was a VERY jaded and angry person. He didn't believe in good people anymore. He only wanted power so that way no one could ever hurt him again. He wanted to learn black magic solely to get as strong as possible. When the Scions approached him, he doubted them and planned on just joining for a more steady source of income.

Now the issue with Roi is, that no matter how negative and hateful he is, there is ALWAYS a part of him that deeply cares for others. And he tried to keep his distance from everyone to avoid getting attached because everyone he has ever known has basically died due to the empire in ala mhigo or poverty. Roi was exposed to war and violence so early that it really damaged him.

Roi had NO ONE prior to meeting the scions because his parents and his uncle died in ala mhigo and his aunt died in a refugee camp in thanalan when he lived there. But I can say that he does have a lot of friends outside of the scions after ARR. His first friends really were the beastmen in the black mage questline. Who, despite giving up black magic, he is still in contact with. He is also incredibly close with Sid and Rielle from the dark knight quests. The people in the Fortemps family are like family to him. Everyone that he met that was kind to him is someone he considers a friend. Roi gets attached to people very quickly. Despite his self hatred and difficult personality at times, he has a lot of friends outside of the scions. There are a handful of people that he doesn't like (even characters that I do like) that are still alive in endwalker. But pretty much everyone that helped in the msq is a friend to him to some degree outside of those specific people.

But yeah, if Roi hadn't met the scions, he probably would have died or worse because he was going down a bad path.

Roi rarely has time to engage with hobbies. When he does, it is typically cooking. Something that (until dawntrail) was kept more or less a secret because he finds it to be embarrassing. Not so much the act itself but how focused and interested in it he actually is. Roi is also a fan of fishing. He finds it very relaxing. This one is also a secret solely because he likes to do this alone most of the time and he doesn't really want anyone to approach him. He also enjoys reading fiction or nonfiction (though he usually feels embarrassed being caught reading fiction). His hobbies are fairly typical and he is highly shy about all of them since it ruins his "i'm a weapon -- a tool to be used" narrative that he thinks people need to want to be around him and NOT throw themselves in harms way for his sake. Roi hides most things that make him seem human. He eases up on this a LOT from Shadowbringers on. After Endwalker he is open with his friends about most things.

👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical…)?

Roi has yellow eyes. They are a kind of light brown that comes out an amber color. There really isn't anything special about them aside from the color. Though they do give away his emotions a lot of the time. You can always see a what he's hiding through them. Whether that is hurt, anger, or joy.

☕️ HOT BEVERAGE - do they prefer hot or cold drinks? what is their favourite drink?

It depends. Roi typically drinks water as a cold drink. So I would say he more commonly drinks and enjoys warm drinks. He HATES the cold and is rather sensitive to it. If it is at all chilly he will be drinking warm tea or coffee. Sometimes hot chocolate. He loves teas a lot. He enjoys chai and cinnamon teas. Anything spiced like that. He also likes coffee though he does like it with cream and sugar, he can drink it black if he has to. In terms of cold drinks, as I said it is usually water. He will sometimes try juices as well and iced teas. But he is more partial to warm drinks.

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

Any measure of weakness or vulnerability. He's gotten much better as the story has gone on. He doesn't like to appear like a real person because it's weak to him. He doesn't want to be hurt no matter what. This is why he hides even something like enjoying cooking or fishing. Because he doesn't like to be seen in any capacity outside of being a weapon or fighter. But he does slowly get past this. Very very slowly.

🏊 SWIMMING - can they swim? or are they afraid of water? how well do they swim? how do they feel about swimming in the ocean?

Prior to getting the kojin's blessing, Roi was afraid of deep water. Like he could and would swim, but it wasn't something he was terribly used to. He kind of had to learn how to swim more or less as an adventurer since he didn't really live near water at any point in his life. He was also incredibly nervous on the open sea. This still is a thing. He is less nervous about it now. But seeing nothing but deep water as far as the eye can see and having no control is really scary to him.

🪤 MOUSE TRAP - what will always lure them into certain danger? a loved one in danger? a promise of something they are always searching for?

It takes no effort at all to lure Roi into danger. It is honestly what he lives for. I would say someone he loves being in danger is a huge one. Knowing any people will be hurt and he could potentially stop it is one too. Roi will find any reason to go into danger because he secretly loves it and it makes him feel alive.

🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?

Hahaha. Roi would go in circles trying to find a way to save everyone because he cannot accept not being the one to die himself. He would be willing to try anything to save someone. At the end, he'd probably sacrifice the single person but he would never ever forgive himself for it no matter what.

🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you've ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version?

I never planned for Roi to be a Dark Knight. It just sort of happened. He was originally supposed to be an edgy black mage forever. But things changed as I played the game. Visually, I got rid of his red highlights which you can still see in a ton of my older icons. But at first Roi was supposed to be a bit more of an antihero (which is still is to an extent) but he changed a lot once I made dark knight canon for him. It took him down a different path. I did more or less totally form roi playing through msq starting with just his backstory.

❤️ RED HEART - their love language(s)?

Hard to say. I would say it's mostly acts of service (giving) as for receiving, who knows? Roi has no idea that people actually love him and is still learning to let people love him.

Is your muse a romantic? Do they dream of love and marriage?

No. Roi finds himself to be unlovable and rather undeserving of love. He is very difficult to get close to. Maybe when he was REALLY young, he used to think about a future where that would happen. But he lost pretty much all hope of that kind of future when his mother died. And with each death in his family that followed, all of which he blamed himself for pretty much, he started to want to stay away from people. Roi could have probably been a romantic (Azem is to an extent) but the world kinda broke him. He doesn't even find it easy to believe people even like him. Not the real him, anyway. It's hard to imagine being in love or married. He kinda thinks he'll probably die alone. And that it's probably for the best.

7. Is your muse the big spoon or the little spoon?

It depends! Roi is pretty protective so he probably would enjoy being the big spoon lol. I also think he deserves to be the little spoon at some point because yeah. But Roi doesn't really feel comfortable sleeping near others (he will eventually!!! but they have to know about his night terrors and be calming to him lol) so it would be awhile before he actually fell asleep with someone. He would most likely default to big spoon because he is a very protective person and he'd like to watch his partner breathe and looked relaxed with him. Since he sees himself as a weapon and not a person, he'd be in awe that someone would feel so safe with him like that.

14. Is your muse more submissive or dominant in a relationship?

Despite Roi being so strong and a natural leader... He tends to be more submissive. The other person needs to be able to take initiative since he's inexperienced. He is also uncertain of himself and terrified of hurting his partner through his behavior or actions. Roi needs reassurance that they are okay with him. That they feel safe and comfortable with him. He treats his partner delicately to start with, since he only knows how to cause harm in his eyes. Roi has a tendency to go with the flow. His energy in the relationship very much matches his partner's. He's shy to start with. He doesn't trust himself at all. He has no idea what he's doing. He tends to prefer people that can guide him. Though he can at times be dominant. Especially in his villain verse where he is a control freak.

Do you have any headcanons or thoughts about your muse's relationship with Zero?

So Roi really liked Zero. As fellow edgelord goths, they had a lot in common. Zero's mindset was very similar to Roi's in ARR and so he could really empathize with her. Where Roi was a softy of the inside, he needed reassurance to let that part of him come out due to the years of trauma. He saw that Zero wasn't entirely bad. And even if she was, he didn't really care that much as long as she wasn't hurting anyone. All in all, he could really relate to her and genuinely cared about her a lot. They ruined so many people with the two of them crafting the spiciest curry known to man since Roi also LOVES spicy food. They were such menaces together. I wish we got more time with her because her and Roi had serious bestie potential.

Roi can eat the spiciest stuff ever and be like "It's not spicy it's pretty good." but if he eats something sort of bland he will be inconsolable.

He also likes bitter stuff but not SOUR stuff. He would be so confused by sour candies. He also likes sweet stuff but would def be like "this is too sweet" for some stuff.

He also really likes dark chocolate (unlike me :( i think it's okay with some things but not on its own.).

Also he never even tried seafood until he first went to Limsa.

Is there any Scion that Roi doesn’t get along with well or isn’t that fond of for whatever reason?

Nope! I would say he didn't care for Alphinaud in ARR. He has a strong dislike of rich people right out of the gate and it takes extra time for them to earn his trust/respect. He also found him to be arrogant, bossy, and childish. He bit his tongue around him a lot. Though they did get close in Heavensward, Roi seeing him as a little brother and likely the scion he is the closest with in most verses.

NOW the only other close one is Thancred. Roi loves Thancred. He recruited him and saw potential in him. If it wasn't for Thancred, Roi truly believes he would be dead or gone down a bad path thanks to his mindset at the time they met. Thancred gave him purpose and introduced him to Minfilia, the person that reached Roi's heart and brought his walls down for the first time since his childhood. Thancred and Minfilia were the scions he was the closest with in ARR. After Minfilia's death, Roi blames himself for it because he left her behind. He hates himself for trusting that Hydealyn would keep her safe. Roi is totally unable to move on from her death until their last meeting in Shadowbringers. Which brings me to Thancred, who asked Roi to keep her safe in the tunnel.

Roi does love Thancred. He thinks that Thancred hates him. He thinks that he hates him and won't say it. He thinks that he SHOULD hate him and blame him. Roi feels uneasy and uncomfortable around him from their reunion in HW until the end of ShB (5.0 specifically when Thancred is trying so hard to save his life basically and the stuff he says before they go face Emet-Selch.) So while Roi's feelings of adoration for Thancred never really change, he feels like Thancred does and should hate him. This is much worse in ShB when Thancred is more emotionally volatile and has Ryne with him.
