Time to make an Ira and Ludinus meta! (And it’s not Ludigoth? A shock! Although a ship ask meme post is coming) In seriousness though, there are some interesting parallels and contrasts between these two.
For one, there’s the degree of separation from their own people. Ira is ousted from both courts. Ludinus is from 2 whole civilizations that no longer exist and walked away from the survivors. There’s this commonality of in betweenness and being just different enough to push one to the edge of belonging.
There is not really a place they can root themselves too. And there’s common grounds in that they both may claim that’s how they like it. Ira says he doesn’t form attachments and that is the price of being free. Ludinus’s whole baggage is that he’s a man out of time. But also they both contradict themselves on that point as well. Mr Ira “no friends for me please” Wendgoth can say that all he likes but he keeps returning to the Calloways and is highly interested when he hears Morrigan was talking about him again. Ludinus had every chance to kill his oppositions like Beau and Caleb, Imogen and Fearne when they were pissing him off, but he needed to make them understand his goal, his pain. He wants someone to understand.
It is quite ironic though that the way they present themselves is highly contrasted. Ira revels in emotion contrasted with the closed off, practiced poise Ludinus operates on. But it’s interesting how despite the wild wackiness of Ira, he’s pretty much well put together. He’s just got that theatre kid flare to him. There’s nothing he’s really hiding beneath all the theatrics. But Ludinus? The put togetherness is the act. There’s an undercurrent of the volatile emotions whenever he speaks. When the mask fell? That laugh wasn’t exactly the Lucien laugh but it invoked the same feeling of “Oh this is the real shit coming to the surface.” Ludinus is the performer and Ira is what he is.
What does this all mean? Nothing really but I think it’s interesting to see these shared things in them. Especially as it seems Ira is going to be an ally to the BH. (And of course lol I think they have some interesting chemistry) But a lot of the C3 villains or antagonists do seem to have this running theme of being on the edge of belonging and I think that’s something interesting to explore.
