Former Affiliation: Takanome's Rangers
Former Occupation: Ranger
Appearance.
Annushka looks like a woman in her late forties to early fifties.
She has a slim figure, described as a “spare, whipcord frame”. Her skin is pale and her eyes are hazel. She has straight brunette shoulder-length hair, which she keeps tied on a knot, with even bangs covering her forehead.
Annushka wears the Ranger 1.0 armour set in black with golden outlines. Her chest piece is decorated with the hunter emblem drawn in thin golden lines wrapped in a pattern of pale blue flowers. Her hunter cloak is black, and bears the Valor in Darkness emblem.
Juggernaut’s shell has a camouflage pattern.
Personality.
Annushka presents a stoic and severe exterior, which she uses to prevent her insecurities or worries from showing.
Underneath that, she is an insightful, strong-willed, if sometimes impatient and impulsive person. Always ready to stand up against injustice and in defence of those she holds dear; she is capable of great anger just as well as great compassion.
Combat.
Having originally worked with the Rangers when she was first rezzed by her Ghost, Annushka has throughout training in the use of rifles. Simultaneously, as the only Risen of that group, Annushka would often be the one to engage in close quarters combat, act as a decoy or spearhead attacks.
For a Guardian, Annushka is unusually reluctant to depend on the Traveler’s Light, an attitude born from a natural distrust of things she does not understand or lacks information on. Because of this, she only uses her class abilities as a last resort.
Having been around since long before Guardian classes were established, Annushka’s manipulation of the light doesn’t quite fit within an specific class, much less a subclass. Though her preferred approach to battle tends to align better to traditional Hunter standards.
Equipment and Weapons.
- Heavy Pike (North American Empire eagle painted on its bonnet)
- Arcadia Jumpship
- Shock Rifle
- Hunter's Throwing Knife
- MIDA Multi-Tool Scout Rifle
- Khvostov 7G-02 Auto Rifle
- Red Death Pulse Rifle
- The First Curse Hand-Cannon
- Vestian Dynasty Sidearm
Biography.
Annushka was rezzed by her Ghost during the early days of the Dark Age at what used to be the North West of the North American Empire. She took her name from a letter and a wedding ring she had with herself at the time.
After wandering aimlessly alone for weeks, Annushka managed to steal a Shock Rifle and a Heavy Pike. She used the later to stalk members of the House of Devils, which lead her to the territory under the Traveler.
There she met the Takanome's Rangers for the first time and decided to join them.
Annushka would spend the following years patrolling the ruins of Earth, protecting human outposts, fending off thieves, murderers, Warlords, Fallen and Vex alike.
As the rangers numbers dwindled from a combination of their high mortality rate, few volunteers and the rise of the Iron Lords, they took to burying their dead by the roads they patrolled, planting blue flowers by them.
To this day, implying the rangers are merely a myth is a surefire way to get on Annushka’s bad side.
Ultimately, Annushka found herself alone. During the following years, she would continue patrolling the old ranger routes, guiding whoever asked her to the nascent Last City. Though she would refuse to settle down there, largely due to being weary the Iron Lords would just become a new version of the Warlords.
Ultimately, as the numbers of wanderers to guide dwindled, lost and loneliness became to much for her, and Annushka killed herself, with orders for her Ghost not to bring her back.
Juggernaut would obey this order, until the start of the Faction Wars, when he would bring her back to help sneak refuges away from the City.
When the Faction Wars ended, Annushka guided the refuges back to the City. There, she lived among the civilian population unnoticed by the Vanguard, until the Battle of the Six Fronts, when she revealed herself to fight.
Her status as a Risen revealed, Annushka was pressed into formally joining the Vanguard. She would originally choose to support New Monarchy, both because they granted her access to the Consensus and the feeling they were the only faction that actually had a political and social proposal, even if she didn’t agree with it completely. However, as time passed, Annushka found herself staying more to keep an eye on them and their intentions.
Using her status as a Guardian and affiliation to New Monarchy, Annushka founded the Forces of the City, primarily to train and arm non-Guardians to stand for themselves, and not be at the mercy of Guardians in the event of another Faction War. However, she refused to take leadership of the organization, insisting it should be run by non-Guardians.
She also regularly took up solo scout missions for the Vanguard to keep up appearances.
Osiris’ exile caused Annushka to grow curious of his theories, and she started to surveil the meetings of members of his Cult while on patrol.
During the Battle of the Twilight Gap, Annushka supported and participated of Lord Shaxx’s counterattack against the Fallen.
Having fallen on Lord Saladin’s bad side for supporting Lord Shaxx, Annushka decided to lower her profile for some time, and dedicated herself to study Crypto-Archaeology from Master Rahool. Around this time she started developing an interest for Symmetry’s theories.
Annushka would exploit the Concordant’s failed coup against the Consensus to regain their favour, by participating on the Battle of Bannerfall.
Annushka was disappointed when the Future War Cult was given voice in the Consensus over Symmetry.
In the wake of the Battle of Burning Lake, Annushka finally gathered together a fireteam: Bad News for the Bad Guys.
Destiny:
Under Commander Zavala’s orders, Annushka lead her fireteam to assault the Devil's Lair and kill their High Servitor Sepiks Prime.
Upon receiving the Speaker’s emergency broadcast about the Hive, her fireteam descended into the depths of the Hellmouth to kill Phogoth, the Untamed.
The fireteam descended below the Ishtar Academy and slayed Sekrion, Nexus Mind, preventing Venus' transformation into the Vex network.
When the Cabal unleashed the Psion Flayers to locate one of Rasputin's usurped AI cores to break his control over Mars' defences, Anna’s fireteam was deployed. The Flayers defeated, Rasputin locked down the machine.
Using data from a reclaimed Ishtar archive, Annushka’s team raided the Vault of Glass. Slaying the Templar and its Oracles, they avoided the Gorgons, and confronted Atheon, Time's Conflux in the Glass Throne. Using the Aegis they defeated the Vex overseer and broke the Vex's control over the Vault.
The Dark Below:
Annushka’s team tracked down and killed Crota's last general, Omnigul, temporarily halting the Hive invasion of Earth.
They then went after the Undying Mind and destroyed it before it could summon back the Black Heart.
The House of Wolves:
When Queen Mara Sov opened the Reef to the Guardians, Annushka travelled there, interested in the opportunity of learning more about the place and what’s beyond the asteroid belt. She instructed her fireteam to stay behind and guard the City, telling them to call for her if it looked like anyone might try to make a move to exploit the hordes of guardians leaving for the Reef.
She spent much time listening to Variks, the Loyal‘s stories about the Eliksni. And took advantage of being able to participate in the Trials of Osiris without having to worry about the Vanguard.
The Taken King:
Annushka’s team answered Rasputin's call for aid in fending off a Fallen attack.
Later, under Cayde-6 orders, Annushka ’s team was deployed to establish patrol beacons across the Dreadnaught.
There they found Alak-Hul, the Darkblade, and slain him per Eris Morn’s recommendation.
Annushka’s team returned to Earth, where they continued fighting the Taken, tracking down a coven at the Cosmodrome .
Finally, the fireteam travelled to the Moon to eliminate Malok, Pride of Oryx before he could rally the remaining Taken from the Hellmouth.
Rise of Iron:
Annushka’s fireteam patrolled the City’s walls during The Transmission Incident to ensure infected Guardians didn’t enter the City.
Once a cure for the infection was found, the fireteam tracked down Sepiks Perfected, and killed both it and Dresiks, Splicer Baron in the Devils' Lair.
Later, they destroyed a network of SIVA Nodes. Descending into the Hive Nest, they killed Kovik, Splicer Priest, as well as a captive Hive Ogre the Fallen Priest had infused with SIVA.
They went on to infiltrate Foundry 113 and defeat the duumvirate of Aksis and his second-in-command Vosik inside their Perfection Complex. The Devil Splicers were neutralised.
Destiny 2:
Annushka’s fireteam was killed during the Red Legion’s attack on the Last City when the Guardians were cut from the Traveler’s Light. She spent the immediate aftermath of the initial attack helping civilians sneak out of the City, exploiting the routes she used to do the same back during the days of the Faction Wars. And leading them through the old ranger patrol routes. Eventually she caught the signal set up by Suraya Hawthorne to guide the City refugees to The Farm.
When the Vanguard arrived at the Farm, Annushka rendezvous with them to assist in the attack to free the Traveler. She was part of Hawthorne’s team. Annushka recovered her Light, alongside the rest of the Guardians, once Ghaul was killed.
Annushka stayed in the City until the last remnants of the Red Legion were successfully defeated and cleared. After that, however, she chose to return to the Farm and settled down there, offering her knowledge as a Cryptarch. She also took to planting blue flowers leading to The Farm. She decided to join Devrim Kay’s effort to turn the Farm into a “New City”, officially abandoning the Vanguard and New Monarchy.
Working as a scout at the European Dead Zone, she met the Hunter posse Dead End Cure and joined them as a way to remain up to date with the goings of the City without having to return.
After the learning the Future War Cult had successfully predicted the attack of the Red Legion and had been ignored when trying to warn the Vanguard, she became more receptive to their theories, even if she remained distrustful of their secretive Inner Circle.
Annushka also warmed up to Dead Orbit, thanks to their assistance during the evacuation of the City and deciding to maintain a presence at The Farm, even after the City was retaken.
