         IT WAS only recently that isaac had started staying later at the office. his father deemed that late nights were necessary, given that isaac was set to inherit the company by the end of the year when his father would be stepping down as ceo and retiring. even though this was something he had been groomed to do from a young age, experience was very different from the theoretical approach. he looked up from his desk, seeing his father’s assistant dacha. he checked the clock on his laptop, seeing the time. “hey, are you hungry?” he asked suddenly. “i think we might have to stay a couple more hours, and what do you say to ordering some takeout? it’s on me,” he added with a grin.

         MAYBE HE didn’t quite think things through. what was it about people always assuming that they’d be in trouble when they get called into his office? as far as isaac recalled, he rarely did firings; most often, whenever he called people into his office, it was a good thing. then again, some of his employees found him intimidating, so he supposed he couldn’t fault them for their thinking. “well, that’s a fair logic,” he conceded. “but no, you’re not in trouble or getting fired.” pushing his chair back, he stood up and walked around his desk, sitting at the edge so he was right in front of her. he looked her up and down before canting his head to the side. “i was going to mention that your hard work has been noticed by upper management. mainly me,” he replied. “you’ve only been here... how long? yet you work a lot harder than most of my employees who have been here for years. i think it’s only fair you get a... reward. don’t you agree?”

         SHE APPEARED to be rather demure, yet eager at the same time. isaac could appreciate that type of work ethic. he leaned back against his chair, looking at her closely. “you did nothing wrong,” he assured her, before sitting back upright and resting his elbows on the desk, folding his hands together. “i notice that you’re just an intern, yet you work harder than a lot of my full-time employees,” isaac began. “and that work ethic should always be... rewarded.” he had to approach this carefully, just in case he misread the signs. “do you agree?”

           HE SHOULD have listened to his sister when she warned him about his fiancée. but he didn’t because he had been too naïve to realize that his fiancee was just using him. isaac had been at a loss at what to do, before realizing that she had no idea that he knew about her devious plan. so now here he was, standing in front of his friend north. “hear me out: i know it sounds insane but there’s no one else i can ask for help from,” isaac pleaded after he explained what happened and his plan for them to get married as soon as possible in a courthouse. “and i promise i will either owe you a massive favour or pay you... whatever you want. but i just.. i really need your help. please.”
