Seeing him for the first time on their own following Nami's shutdown from her friends is almost like meeting him all over again. Like her world that had been cold and grey is now full of colour. Her heart quickens and she can't breathe—suddenly she's 16 with a stupid crush on her friend all over again.

So she swallows in an attempt to squash them all down, from allowing him to invade her senses. But his smile in the distance lights up the sky anyway and she's filled with everything Luffy. So when she starts of running, she can barely stop herself.

Her arms curl to embrace him, and she sighs into his shoulder. It takes her a moment to finally pull away and her heartstrings tug at being so close to him. She pauses for an extra beat to look over him, to physically make sure for herself that he's actually alright before pulling him towards her once more.

❝ Don't do that again! ❞ she scolds, shaking him back-and-forth by his shoulders for a few seconds.

Then it finally stops, and her lips caress along the side of his head. A silent gesture to express her relief.

in modern verses, i'm giving nami a cat named zeus in order to represent the piece of big mom's soul that now lives in her clima-tact in the canon.

zeus the cat is a cheeky little thing. he's white, fluffy and is always accidentally getting in the way despite it apparently being attempts to help nami. he is always getting into strange situations and locations, but nami loves him nonetheless.

Nami knows this poor guy doesn't know who she is or how good she is with her hands. But if he wants to leave himself wide open despite his claims and the rumours she has heard about him, then who is she to not take advantage of the situation?

She has been attempting to bail her family out of their debt and so will often take money where she can... She has rarely, if ever, been caught, and as much as her sister Nojiko would like to encourage Nami to do solely ethically, but with people constantly chasing them up for money, she would use her talents when she could.

She slides towards him, blinking up at him. Her lips are puckered slightly in an attempt to look as cute as she can, and she pushes the front of her body at his front. The redhead has already picked where his wallet is, and slowly slides her hand away where he can't see. Her eyes remain on his, but her thoughts are only on money, money, money.

❝ You're really going to say no to me? ❞ she asks sweetly, sliding the wallet out and away into her palm. ❝ That's not fair. ❞

She sighs and moves to undo her seatbelt. It slides back into place with a quick snap and Nami steps out the car. She should have known Luffy would have come to find her, expecting praise and cheerful smiles from her as they celebrated his magnum opus being picked up and made into a reality. Some part of her wants to be the friend he wants her to be right now, but her heart is cracked with betrayal and the promise he had snatched right from beneath her.

His dream may be becoming a reality, but hers isn't.

She slams the door shut and makes her way back over to the sidewalk and begins to collect her things that had toppled out. She piles them messily, purposefully ignoring who she is considering now a former friend.

❝ There has to be a casting process, Luffy, ❞ Nami answers, exasperated. How can he be so ignorant? They have participated in musicals together over the years, practiced routinely. He has supported her as she waited for phone calls from casting directors from local theatre companies and held her hand as she dared to look at a cast list. ❝ You can't just demand that I be placed in the role, especially now that you're not in control! ❞

❝ You should have told me! I could have negotiated for you. You knew I've been wanting this just as badly as you. But you left me behind... ❞

had he heard her right? no, that couldn't be the case! they had so much more to do together! the musical was just being produced! his heart sunk deeper inside his chest at nami's words as he looked at her with disbelief.

"is this about the lead actress? i told you nami, you're the only one i want to sing on the stage! you should know that there's nobody who i want more than you, nobody comes close to how talented you are!" he could have told her from the start of this evening that their musical had been picked up and was getting produced, but he wanted it to be a surprise for her. she had been working so hard with this--he thought it would be a welcoming night for her.
