jin lets out a small laugh, pressing a kiss onto the head of haeseok’s head when he leans forward. “seok, i need to study. i’ve got exams coming up.” he chuckles as he runs his fingers through his boyfriend’s hair - who in return just pouts even more and tries to look at him all stern. no!, he almost yells in that tiny ‘i am babie and i get what i want’ voice, you need to rest, hyungie. much rest. cuddle with me for an hour and i’ll let you study. now rest. you’re comfy. and who is jin to resist? to deny haeseok the small happy moments? he knows he’s already always too busy as is; and while haeseok like to whine around all the time in hopes of getting jin’s attention, jin also knows that it’s not only because he’s a spoiled kid - not even spoiled in a bad way. haeseok is loved by everyone. by his parents, his friends and seniors alike. even friends younger than haeseok, they all adore him. jin knows, however, that it’s not enough love to give haeseok the love he really craves from his boyfriend - and jin knows while haeseok is understanding of his career choices and busy schedule, he also gets lonely. maybe even easier than other people, but jin signed up for it all when he asked haeseok out. “fine. you can have me. i won’t ruin your comfy space.” he snickers eventually, tackling haeseok into the sheets playfully to pepper his face with raspberries. they make haeseok giggle and laugh in glee and jin tries not getting him too riled up so they can enjoy some quiet cuddling; as quiet as it gets with haeseok, anyways.

jinhoon is flabbergasted. he’s at a complete loss for words and it probably shows all over his face. haeseok has never, not once, gone out of his way for anyone - not that jinhoon is aware of, and his twin laments this fact oftenly because haeseok is a scatterbrained kid always at five parties at once and always the sun of all of them. jinhoon figures haeseok is just too chaotic to do such thing; and from seeing how haeseok claims he was there and happened to grab it even though he’s not carrying anything else and jinhoon knows the store that has this item is the opposite from his usual way to the park family’s house and haeseok usually always eats something when he’s barging into their home. to say the least, jinhoon feels ... strangely flattered. “oh”, his words do not match the excitement that’s cooking up inside of him and he manages to offer haeseok a smile before taking the triangle kimbab. jinhoon doesn’t even recall haeseok being aware of how much he loved this kind that’s almost never found in any stores. last time he tagged along to his twin and haeseok going to the store, they were busy trying to fit as many snacks into their arms as possible and tae had only given an offhanded mention to wow, this store has your favourite! so jinhoon didn’t expect any of this in the slightest. “thank you. this is very thoughtful of you.” he looks at haeseok then, really looks and has to fight the grin from spreading at haeseoks happy expression. “do you want to try a bite?”

“i’m- ah, well. i’m trying to make up for being an asshole.” this is the fourth week in row that haeseok has been slipping into jinhoons room almost daily. whenever he visits taehoon and the latter gets distracted with something, the door to jinhoons room will open agonisingly slow and a flash of light (haeseoks phone, no doubt) will follow quiet steps and quiet murmurs to his snake. at first, jin had just gone back to sleep. then, eventually, he pretended to be asleep as to not bother haeseok and scare him away. nowadays, jin is slowly making light conversation with haeseok. it didn’t go well at first, haeseok still being upset about being tricked by jin pretending to be his twin, but eventually he managed to coax haeseok out of his upset poutiness with information about his snake. turns out, haeseok really loves snakes. the other is still somewhat cold to him and brushes off conversations easily, though, which is why jin tires to take a different approach today. that doesn’t seem to be working either, he finds, so he sits up in his bed with a sigh, phone dropping to the side so he can turn around to turn on the lamp on his nightstand. “i’m really sorry, haeseok. that’s all. i just tried being a little nicer since you always brush me off and just focus on my snake as much as you can. sometimes you ignore me completely and i feel invisible in my own room. not that i particularly ... get offended by it or anything, it’s just an unfortunate thing to watch when i can hear you giggle with tae like five minutes later.” he shrugs his shoulders and ruffles his hair, stifling a yawn. nap time is over now anyways, so he figures he can go back to studying once haeseok seems to be done with playing with his snake. “‘not asking you to leave, though. i’ll stop bothering you if you want to play with my snake. i don’t mind, i’m glad someone is taking a liking to her anyways. i can get too busy to really take care of her like the way i want to.”

jinhoon laughs and rubs haeseok’s palms in his hands. “you’re sick, not dying. stop being such a baby and take your medicine. i’ll give you a kiss if you do.” he’s letting go of haeseok’s face again to hand him the two medicine packages, and nudges him with it. it elicits a whine from haeseok, nothing jinhoon has not been expecting; as his parents have already warned the athlete that haeseok will refuse as much as he can, and will do most to anything to get out of taking his medicine. jinhoon has an idiot twin brother, and a lot of patience. so he does what he does best, and bribes haeseok with the promise of kisses (they’re haggling on the amount still, and jinhoon drives a hard bargain of one for each medication) until haeseok finally gives in. he seems to understand that jinhoon isn’t going to cave. “the sooner you’re getting healthy again, the sooner i can stay longer and over or have you at our place.” haeseok at least understands that health is the one thing jinhoon cannot risk for his career, and he gets pouty at just the thought of making jinhoon sick. it sucks a little, even for jinhoon, but it is what it is. as long as haeseok is contagious, jinhoon can’t be around him too much. can’t coddle and cuddle him all day and only suffice through voice and video for most part. jinhoon feels genuinely sorry, and haeseok knows, and the snacks and substitute presents do make it better. at least a little bit. but that’s okay.

“it’s not, seok-ah.” jinhoon’s voice is soft despite the fact that there’s a playful grin on his face. haeseok is sticking to his side like glue, cold fingers digging into his biceps. “if it was, tae and i would’ve long died or disappeared. there has been instances where we’ve trained here until the sun rose.” he chuckles softly and fits the volleyball between his torso and arm - somehow still managing to ruffle through haeseok’s hair. it’s haeseok who appeared at the gym hall in the middle of the night when he called jinhoon all whiny and pouty about not being able to sleep. jinhoon couldn’t either, so he had already been up and about squeezing in some solo practice (there was a reason why him and taehoon, among a few other hardcore players owned keys to the hall). naturally haeseok decided to keep jinhoon company if neither of them could sleep - though jinhoon was aware then and now that haeseok does have ulterior motives with this. it is very haunted, hyung. which is why we should leave. haeseok has a particular way to get jinhoon to stop overworking himself. he never says it straightforwardly because he knows jinhoon blocks those attempts and gets irritated, but he always masks it within something else, no matter how weak the argument might seem. jinhoon can obviously see through it, but he chooses not to comment it. it’s endearing to see haeseok try and coax him out of the gym or away from his desk and jinhoon cannot help but feel a bit bad for maybe neglecting haeseok and depriving him of the attention he deserves. so it’s almost easy for jinhoon to chuckle and agree, make haeseok help him collect the stray volleyballs and put them away before locking up and heading to jinhoon’s home together. haeseok is hard to deny even when he’s trying to shush his own giggling into jinhoon’s chest and cuddle him like there’s no tomorrow. even when jinhoon tries to get him to sleep for an hour before giving up and just indulging in whatever haeseok has in mind.

jinhoon, drunk on soju and the feeling of having finished the season as the winner with his team, glances at the other people across from the low table. a smile begins to grow on his face when he realises haeseok and taehoon are fighting over some snack and elbow jaeyoung in the ribs in the process - and some of their friends who came are either minding their own business or watching the scene unfold with giggles and laughs. “hey, seok-ah.” jinhoon beckons his boyfriend over before he can help himself, all the happy feelings inside growing and threatening to burst out all at once. haeseok stops his struggle with tae, forgets all about the snack as he’s hastily running around the table to drape himself all over jin. haeseok looks at him questioning and it just makes jin grin a little brighter, finding that confused but happy face way too sweet to ignore. jin’s hand comes up to tangle into haeseok’s hair while he hums, free arm sliding around his tiny waist. “you know i love you, right?” he chuckles lightly, doesn’t realise there are way more eyes on them than he’d like there to be, gives his boyfriend a kiss anyways and continues blabbering on before haeseok can stop him. “you’re so cute, i don’t know how you do it. sometimes i feel bad telling you no to fast food, but i just want you to be healthy. you know that, right? god, you’re so cute.” he places a few wet kisses all over haeseok’s face which is scrunching up in delighted giggles. “i honestly don’t know how you’re doing it. being this cute. this is unfair, you’re all natural and cute and the whole world loves you already but i wish i could be selfish and have no one look at your cute face.” more wet kisses that make disgusting smacking sounds, but haeseok doesn’t seem to mind. he’s all happy about this, grinning wide and unable to stop himself from giggling. “i’m so proud of you and support your whole career but sometimes i just want to lock you up and give no one even the slightest chance of thinking they have a chance with you for just paying you a little money here and there on your stream.” jin doesn’t know it yet - or is in denial about it, but he’ll very much regret his words the following morning, will huff at everyone who has a copy of the video tae took of him blabbering drunkenly about his beloved boyfriend.

jinhoon lets out a dry chuckle, collecting haeseok into his arms and holding him there. things are about to get busy for jinhoon work wise - mostly away games piling on top of each other with little time in between. while having someone to miss and long for hasn’t crossed his mind before, it’s all different with haeseok part of his life now. he’ll miss haeseok terribly, even if a lot of the time they spent together haeseok’s playing games and jinhoon is studying or they’re both sleeping. maybe because they spent so much time doing those things. haeseok being clingier than usual isn’t a problem to him, it’s the leaving that gets to him. haeseok can gladly cling onto jinhoon for as long as he wishes and jinhoon wouldn’t mind in the least; but something about having to separate from haeseok for some weeks like this is a scary, dreadful thought. nothing jinhoon wishes for. nothing he wants to happen. “i wish i could just pack you into my bag and take you with me.” his voice is rather quiet, a hush above all rustling and tinkering outside of his room. “i never thought i’d like someone enough to miss them when i’m going away doing the thing i love. but here i am, completely and utterly in love with you and trying to think of ways of how to avoid having to go. or you having to stay.” he sighs into the crown of haeseok’s hair and feels the younger shift in his arms, tensing up before he tightens his arms around jinhoon. no sound is leaving him for a while, but jinhoon knows it’s because otherwise, haeseok will start crying and wailing. jinhoon wants to apologise for bringing it up but knows it’s no use. they both know that this is a topic that’ll give a sour taste for the whole night, that’ll always linger in their minds. maybe they’ll have to get used to situations like these in the future, and maybe they will, but for now it sucks.

jinhoon looks at haeseok in surprise, mouth open for a few seconds. he doesn’t even recall what they had been talking about before haeseok interrupted him with this blurt. it doesn’t matter. whatever it was, it doesn’t matter a bit. jinhoon’s surprised face cracks and forms into a smile, a genuine, bright, wide grin. those rare ones that are reserved for special moments on the court, for his siblings when they do something that warrants it and for haeseok in moments like these. haeseok can probably count the times he has seen it with his fingers on one hand. haeseok is getting nervous suddenly, probably realising what he just said. his face turns beet red, hands coming up to flail and he tries to say something, anything, but all of it comes out jumbled and incoherent. jinhoon laughs, shoulders shaking before he cups haeseok’s face. “seokkie, i love you too. calm down. i thought i was being really obvious that i’m already head over heels for you and not just … liking you romantically.” he continues to chuckle for a few seconds all throughout haeseok’s whining of why didn’t you say something, then!! and offers a shrug as response. it’s not really an explanation, but how can he even begin to explain to haeseok that he’s been in love for so long when haeseok was still a little wary of him - how is he supposed to tell him that crushing isn’t really a thing he does, just falls in love in an instant and that it’s so rare, so rare to happen but if it does it’s so much and too much to unload onto haeseok from the beginning and he wants haeseok to come to terms with things in his own tempo. he doesn’t want to rush him, given their age difference, doesn’t want to put even the slightest amount of pressure onto him and wants haeseok to come forward on his own. jinhoon feels bad for initiating things often enough because he’s worried he’s coming on too strong and forceful, and what if haeseok doesn’t like it but is too afraid to say no? but how is he supposed to explain any of that to haeseok when he has no idea how to put it into words, he just feels? “maybe i wanted to be selfish and hear it from you first.” it’s as good of an explanation as jinhoon can muster with his limited knowledge of how to put the ocean of feelings inside of you into a few concise words. he hopes haeseok understands, even if vaguely.

jinhoon smiles down at haeseok, grabbing his puffy face into his palms. “i also got a bigger body than you, so i’ll be fine. don’t worry so much about me, seokie.” his smile doesn’t falter, and even though he’s also scared, he knows being strong for haeseok is the right thing. he won’t succumb to the fear because it’s not helping them along the way, and it doesn’t change the situation. they’re out and that’s that. it was a more or less consensual decision (not in the spur of the moment that jinhoon ran up to kiss haeseok, but the possibility had been definitely dreamily talked about before) and even now while facing the backlash of their actions, jinhoon can’t even bring himself to not smile at haeseok. he loves this kid so much that it’s unreal, unfair, and unmatched. “i know this would happen if i did that. i don’t regret it.” he leans down to kiss his face, and haeseok whimpers under his touch. starts crying again, tears bubbling up in his eyes. “oh baby, don’t be so upset…” he takes haeseok with him, guides him to the bed and manages to shuffle them around until they’re laying down and facing each other, limbs still intertwined as much as possible. “it was clear they were gonna kick me off the team immediately … of all teams, really. it’s fine, though. i reached my goal, taes and my promise was fulfilled, and i’ve got you. i studied for something like this. i’ve got a back up, okay? it’s not that bad.” he showers haeseok’s face with kisses, cradling his face before his arms come to wrap around his torso. “i love you so much, and i could never regret kissing you on worldwide live tv. stop looking at the comments online, okay? don’t search me up. it doesn’t matter. they’re all faceless strangers, i will not let them impact our life like that.” jinhoon lets out a sigh when haeseok nods, mumbles an apology. “don’t be sorry. just let me take care of you” he kisses him breathless then, even if haeseok whines and complains about being all wet and messy, and that their kisses taste salty because of his tears. jinhoon doesn’t care. he doesn’t care about anything but haeseok right now.

“that’d be nice, i’ll send an inquiry.” jinhoon musters up a smile and ruffles haeseok’s hair before he’s grabbing his phone to write an e-mail response. they’re talking about an invitation for some kind of sports award show. jinhoon isn’t quite so sure why anyone in this field would invite him after his rather dramatical coming out, or why he’s up for nomination for anything. he skimmed the e-mail for important information and decided he didn’t want to go - or at least, not alone. he doesn’t know if taehoon has an invitation, too. he assumes it, and he guesses taehoon seriously doesn’t want to attend anyways. after all, taehoon is still pretty upset about the way the sports organisation handled jinhoon’s actions. more so than jinhoon himself. he knew this was coming. so he hopes this invitation is some sort of reconciliation, even if only for the press. it’d be a good sign. a good step into the right direction. jinhoon is quite frankly scared about showing up, and having haeseok by his side would definitely help a lot. it’d send a lot of signals, too. but they’ll have to check first, if it’s … allowed. wished for. a possibility. he shifts in his position and haeseok starts climbing on top of his chest to nuzzle and squeeze him. i can feel you thinking, hyung. stop worrying, it’ll be fine. worst they can do is say no. you don’t have to go if you don’t want to? and suddenly jinhoon is immensely glad about haeseok being his boyfriend again. of course it has always been haeseok, but in moments like these, in the whole aftermath, haeseok is showing a lot more strength and capacity than jinhoon. haeseok is really strong, jinhoon notices, and it puts him to a shame. after all, jinhoon feels as if he should be taking care of haeseok, not the other way around.

jinhoon reaches out to pinch haeseok’s cheek gently. “i do?” he’s still a little sleepy, rising from a nap when haeseok had gently tickled him to announce that taehoon was going to get all of them ice cream. without saying it, jinhoon understands that haeseok would rather spend the time alone with jinhoon instead of going with his twin to pick out ice cream. it’s an endearing thought that warms jinhoon’s heart. “which store did he go to?” haeseok throws him a confused look but replies with gs25, why? anyways and jinhoon pulls haeseok to him, makes him lie down next to him so he can put some kisses onto him. “we’ll have at least twenty minutes.” taehoon must know about jin and haeseok by now, especially if he’s choosing the convenience store furthest away, but jin wants to be cute with his boyfriend for a while before telling him. before disrupting this little bit of peace. it’s not as if they’re subtle around home. haeseok can’t lie and his face always tells it all, and jin doesn’t lock his door anymore when he’s taking a nap, in case haeseok wants to stop by to look at his snake for five minutes and take a nap with him. haeseok always leaves the room with messy hair (and sometimes a small blossoming hickey, or slightly swollen lips), and jin doesn’t sleep as long during the day anymore, even comes out to sit on the couch and watch them play games. haeseok probably doesn’t pay attention to how it comes off to anyone else, and jin is frankly glad about it. he doesn’t need to. it’s alright if their close friends or family find out little by little, naturally. at least that’s what jinhoon thinks himself. so he just opts to kiss haeseok a little whiny, a little puddy, and enjoys the feeling of his smaller fingers in his hair, or around his arms. likes the giggly sounds haeseok produce when he’s being tickled, and laughs with him to see haeseok’s face light up. “hey, tae knows about us.” he kisses his cheek one final time when he hears his twin in question punch in the code outside the flat, and laughs at haeseok’s surprised face. “didn’t tell him, i think he just knows us.”

jinhoon is drained. he knew life would be hard after his public stunt, but this is almost unbearable. he’s a strong person, and he should be especially for haeseok. haeseok, the younger and smaller one of them. his tiny baby. but right now, it’s haeseok taking care of jinhoon, and jinhoon feels bad about it. “sorry, sorry.” he sighs, twists his neck until it cracks and places his head in the junction of his neck. he’s sleep deprived, and jolted awake from a nap when his phone wouldn’t stop buzzing. sometimes, he still fears doxxing. it hasn’t happened until now, and some rather specific lawyer made sure no one would even think of trying anything funny. “who was it, anyways?” jinhoon wants to steer the conversation away from the public storm he has created as much as possible, and luckily, it works. at least for some time. haeseok tries to be subtle about it, and jinhoon appreciates it. however, he’s not stupid, and he knows he has to face the things he created. haeseok is a lot better at it than he is. what do you think about the whole interview idea? jinhoon thinks it is a good idea. it can’t be worse than this, having ex-colleagues from the league badmouth him and his legacy, people trying to discredit everything he’s done - it could be worse, it could be a lot worse, actually, but jinhoon is already out there with all of his self-created scandal. he might as well use it for publicity and awareness, to try and change something. try making it better for generations to come. “it’s a good idea, i’m just still a chicken about it. how’s stream?” haeseok doesn’t try to let him know, but jinhoon knows his mod have a lot more to do recently - but with youngmin’s support, the internet crowd is tame. with youngmin’s loud mouth, the volleyball audience waltzing into haeseok’s stream is indeed a little intimidated, something jinhoon hadn’t believed to happen. it’s all working out much better than any of them expected. and haeseok is faring a lot better than jinhooon is, and that embarrasses him. just slightly. he’s proud of haeseok being so … confident, but he feels like he should be doing at least equally as good. “i love you, you know? my baby. we have a kiss on worldwide tv.”

jinhoon hums in response, takes what haeseok has brought as a surprise gift and kisses him on the corner of the mouth. “i do. thank you for remembering and thinking of me.” he slings his free arm around his shoulder and steers him towards the field. it’s already late, and jaeyoung has dragged taehoon off some hours ago. leaving jinhoon alone in the hall, he’d still practice until haeseok appeared in the doorway. it’s rare to see him outside, but jinhoon knows it’s partially because haeseok is restless while waiting for his new pc to arrive - the other having gone up in flames, figuratively. jinhoon had to fight youngmin to let him buy the new pc and only won after agreeing that in the meanwhile, haeseok would spent time and streams with youngmin’s set up in the older’s flat. (frustrating for jinhoon, because youngmin always took haeseok away so much and fed him all the unhealthy things until he’d overtire from all the sugar intake and mess up his sleeping schedule - which jin believed was a set up ploy by youngmin to snatch haeseok away from his boyfriend). “you’re so cute.” he sighs with a smile on his face, decides to share the snack with haeseok - they can get more later. he knows haeseok loves all snacks, and even though this one is his favourite, he wouldn’t want to eat it without giving haeseok some of it. “do you want to stay over at my place, tonight? or are you expected to be home?” he presses another light kiss against the upper part of haeseok’s cheek, chuckling softly when he can feel haeseok squirm. jinhoon doesn’t know if haeseok’s parents will allow him to be missing for the night, if he has already stayed at youngmin’s too much. and jinhoon, as he’s older, doesn’t want to stay over at haeseok’s all the time - doesn’t want to bother haeseok’s parents as much. it might be the same for haeseok on the other hand, though jin’s and his step mom always makes sure to treat haeseok as her own. and even their little sister is endeared. not as endeared as jinhoon is, though. he’s whipped, utterly charmed, and haeseok just has to say one word for jinhoon to obediently follow wherever.

jinhoon is holding still, hovering over haeseok weirdly sideways. he’s quiet for a long moment, just looking at the younger silently. he hadn’t been the only one who leaned in just now - but apparently, haeseok was thinking about it too much. over analysing. jinhoon couldn’t believe this kid. “in that case…” jinhoon lets out a long sigh, hand still resting on haeseok’s side. “i don’t want to kiss you as a friend. rather as a love interest. does that work for you?” he offers a smile, seeing as haeseok is beginning to fidget nervously under his gaze and the preceding silence. haeseok’s eyes grow so much in size it would be fairly hilarious in any other situation than this. in this case, it’s plain endearing, makes jinhoon’s heart beat a little faster and maybe skip a beat, makes him want to kiss the other even more so. he waits, patiently, unlike him. he can be rather impatient, but this needs all the patience in the world. so, he waits. haeseok is clearly nervous and tries to avoid his gaze for a couple of times, but jinhoon never stops looking. maybe it’s a bit mean of him, but in this close proximity, he has nowhere else to look. he hasn’t evne seen haeseok’s face this close so often, because most of the times they’re this close, haeseok’s face is bundled up in the front of his shirt, or the back. “you can say no, you know. no pressure, seok.” he’s about to lean back before haeseok does pipe up, voice a little shaky and high, but nonetheless determined. it’s obvious from his face and the vice grip he’s suddenly having on jinhoon’s arm. no! it’s okay. yes, yes please kiss me as your not friend. and how could jinhoon possibly ever say no, how could he not lean in with a fond smile and his thumb rubbing into the flesh of haeseok’s side and how could he not sigh, getting a taste of haeseok’s delicious sweet lips. it’s as easy as growing to like the other, it’s … just.

“i’m fine, seok.” jinhoon’s voice is a drawl and he lifts his hand to run his bandaged fingers through haeseok’s hair. “it’s just a rough season.” his whole body is aching, and he’s tired. it’s obvious from the way he keeps dozing off whenever he has the chance to sit down for five minutes, but he doesn’t want to disappoint haeseok. he wants to spend time with him, the free time he has. doesn’t want to neglect him. “please don’t worry too much, okay? i’m fine. it’s okay. i won’t fall asleep when you’re here, promise.” his throat is dry, and his head is hurting a bit. he might be coming down with a cold, and it’s the last thing he needs right now.

jinhoon cackles, leaning forward to steal a small kiss from haeseok. “it’s just food. they invited you, not us. you should go, i’ll cram some studying in while you’re gone so i can give you all my attention when you’re done.” taehoon and his boyfriend know jinhoon is busy by a long shot, but he had also told them he was planning something for his and haeseok’s three month anniversary. nothing much, just a nice evening with a few movies and healthy and unhealthy snacks, homemade milkshakes and a blanket fort. for that, however, he needs haeseok to leave the apartment of the park family, so he can make everything work. which is much more difficult than it needs to be, but jinhoon is not giving up. this will happen. this will work.
