this discussion surrounding coraline's family unity is incredibly complex , just as the dance of the dragons is . all of them divided by blood ,   honour   &.   their own personal gains  &.  what this dance means for them   &.   their standing  .    so going forward ,   this post will be a little messy ,   but easier to comprehend as a bullet pointed breakdown   .

𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐅 ⎯⎯⎯⎯ oh this girl is not even pretending to be okay , it's impossible for her to just pick a side the way everyone else seems to . one of her greatest weaknesses &. strengths is remaining loyal to her blood , her kin , well , this is all family ; messy , dysfunctional , but family all the same . it's all that matters , its how she was raised &. it's not until the events of the usurping begin to unfold , she though it was how everyone else was raised too . it's not black &. white , it's not easy . morally ; she'll be able to understand that viserys crowned rhaenyra as his heir , that was his chosen . . . though where does that lead ? turning her back on the greens , who are just as important to the house of targaryen as the rest ? i do feel like she'll be forced to pick , but she'd honestly rather put her head to the sword than do so . during this time , she's incredibly sensitive , delicate &. unsure of herself ; but you can tell how much she just , loves all of them , with all their flaws &. disagreements ; in the end , all she wants is for the fighting to stop , she's all too aware of how childish this is of her which makes it all the more worse internally ; it's not simple , but for her , it really is just that simple .

vhamithor targaryen  .     𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      the leading man behind coraline's ideals   &.   her stance on how important it is to stay beside family , no matter the cost .  naturally , you would think this would instantly place him on the side of rhaenyra ,  though on the flip side  ;  he's is also an incredibly calculated man that wants      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      gold ,   status ,   power      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      meaning it would take some time for him to figure it out ;  having to dissect every little thing ,  every outcome      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      i believe it would take so long to decide it would make those deep in it uncomfortable      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      HE SEES THE GREEN'S ARGUMENTS , very clearly  ;   in fact ,  i believe he would feel more connected to otto   &.   alicent than anyone else in this conversation  .     but he could not stand beside them  &.  support the usurping of the throne  ,  eventually  ,  the dice would land on TEAM BLACK      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      THOUGH CRITICALLY  .   it would not be mindless supporting ,  he'd be very much in the corner , watching      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      NEEDING to be talked through every little thing that rhaenyra  &.  her side had planned   ;   he'd become another male voice on the council , i believe .

aeresanne barlaeris  .    𝐃𝐔𝐓𝐘 ,  𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 ,  𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄   ⎯⎯⎯⎯     a woman cut from the same cloth as alicent  ,   she would stand beside the greens due to her own belief on tradition  &.  duty   ;    there are somethings that shouldn't change  ,   the sucession of the crown is one of them   ;   all of this happened because viserys didn't wait  ,   didn't hold his ground   &.   refused to listen to advisors ,  being far too quick to jump at the chance to spurn daemon   ;    she'd be able to understand if there was a legitmate reason to make rhaenyra his heir  ,   but there's none    .    i believe that aeresanne looks to aegon as a boy that needs to grow into the crown  ,   seeing any failures at the fault of viserys   &.   preparing the wrong child    .  

valaella velaryon  .    𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐆𝐎 𝐈 𝐆𝐎    ⎯⎯⎯⎯   valella may have taken the targaryen name through marriage , but she is made of the sea &. it lives inside her  &.  knows it doesn't take a sailor to see the storm on the horizon .   she loves her husband ,  her sister wife &.  every child under her own care       ⎯⎯⎯⎯      but she will go where house velaryon goes  ;  not for the sake of the targaryens , or the realm , but for herself  &.  for her house to remain as one  ,  i truly believes she sees the end of the targaryens before they do ;    as this war goes on , her loyalty lies with her own blood .  as corlys chooses rhaenyra ,  then that's where valaella will go  &.  will happily provide services when able .

incest  ,  is as you are all very much aware of is incredibly important to targaryen traditions    ⎯⎯⎯⎯     the emphasis of binding blood between family members is seen as a strength ,   something to be encouraged   &.   welcomed with open arms    ⎯⎯⎯⎯    obviously  ,   this stance this is something coraline grew up around  ,   another case of a targaryen child being groomed to believe something that truly shouldn't be normalized    ⎯⎯⎯⎯     though  ,   that's exactly what happens   &.   its for this reason coraline remains solid  ,   unwavering in her own beliefs that this is truly the way forward for the future not only for their house , but for herself     .     to bind the blood of the dragon is an honour    .    vhamithor   &.   coraline have their own complicated relationship    ;    coraline's wants    &.    desires often align with his own in every sense of the way    .   however   ,    we can also sympathize with him   ,    too   ,   being a victim that becomes the abuser and withholds the status quo as a domineering male figure    ;    for now   ,    that's a conversation for another day    .

the notion of sharing blood is something that is incredibly important to coraline   ,    it's sacred  ,   something holy      ⎯⎯⎯⎯      it is a religious act that strengthens faith &. loyalty       ⎯⎯⎯⎯      to the house , to the gods , to the dragon ;    to her   ,   there is nothing better   .

which means as she bares witness to the fall of the house  ,    as the cracks get wider    &.    the holes turn unfixable   ;   there is several emotions going on    ;   not only is that the decline of kin  ,   mourning death after death of her own people , witnessing their fires burn so bright , so lethal it turns in on themselves ; her own standing in the world        ⎯⎯⎯⎯         above all its the thinning of their blood   ,   taking away something that was precious to her ; she'll never be with a targaryen the same way as she did back when they were at the height of power   ;   when they owned the world   .

this belief , the way coraline is so set in the old ways of valyria ; makes her future isolation worse , unable to open herself up to non targaryens fully , always having this wall up because who can understand her , who can understand this flame benethe skin if they do not share the blood of the dragon , who else can read the forgotten ancient scroll that is burned benethe the flesh of every targaryen BUT a targaryen ? HOW LONELY IT IS TO BE A DRAGON .

𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒈𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒓 ! 𝐻𝐸𝐴𝐷𝐶𝐴𝑁𝑂𝑁 : no matter the timeline / verse , i am a firm believer that coraline REFUSES to send leviathon to war ; he is a large dragon , would make a fierce ally for whichever side chosen . however the mere thought of losing him is enough to send coraline into a panic attack , would send him away quicker than you can say dracarys . i am absolutely open to plots / conversations where he does die by rival muses , because it would be fun to explore ⎯⎯⎯⎯ coraline would go batshit insane , would become unwell &. that infamous targaryen madness would break down the dam in an instant - they are so incredibly connected , each of their existence woven into each others souls ; this break down on top of her magic ? whewww . in my own personal stories , outside plots / future connections , i will never have the heart to make it canon that leviathon &. her are seperated by death . in a story where the character is doomed , they gotta have a little something to get out of bed .
