Framing vast, arid landscapes, natural phenomena and intricate designs, our Instagramming Pathfinders sure have been snap-happy this month. From the wild west African coast to inner-city Berlin, here are the shots that made us look twice.

Bali, Indonesia

‘Flying a drone sometimes almost feels like being a bird in the sky, looking down upon your next shot. It offers entirely new perspectives and angles, and makes the sites we visit even more spectacular. We had arrived at the Tegallalang rice terraces at 6.30am, right after the sun started to rise, and we had them all to ourselves. The water, pooled within the rice fields, acts as a mirror for the sky – this site is a true piece of art created by mother nature.’ – Odette, @omnivagant

Why we like it: Rice terraces, with their complex, Tetris-like configurations, are always fascinating subjects for a photographer, but even more so when seen from above. Odette’s skilled drone shot showcases the verdant greens and lush vegetation of this particular terrace, framing its intricate patterns; the eye is flawlessly drawn from the undulating curves at the image’s top, to the tangle of lines it becomes at the bottom. Just as Odette herself points out, the sky reflecting in the pooling water brings the image to life, as light dances across it.

Berlin, Germany

‘I was so happy that I decided to visit Berlin‘s aquarium – I could watch the jellyfish here for the whole day. They look so magical and so unreal!’ – Sven, @svenywhere

Why we like it: The Reichstag or the Brandenburg Gate it isn’t, but Sven’s Berlin jellyfish shot is pretty special in its own right. Sure, snapping creatures at close range lacks the drama of photographing wildlife on a safari or scuba dive, but we love the framing of these aquatic critters wafting around, seemingly swimming within the image itself. Sven’s sharp focus on the jellyfish in the foreground creates a vibrant focal point, around which the tentacles and water particles appear to swirl.

Pas de Bellecombe, Réunion

‘For half of the trip in Réunion we slept in the tent outside. We expected cold, windy and rainy nights, but in fact, the reality was different – mostly warm nights I could enjoy, once the clouds had disappeared. I knew the milky way was centered, however, the moon was in an early phase, which sometimes made the shots a bit more difficult. At the volcano Piton de la Fournaise, I struggled to find a proper composition during sunset, but after dark I found that these almost dead trees really caught my attention, and made a perfect foreground for the sky.’ – Javi, @javilorbada

Why we like it: There’s something celestially beautiful about a clear night sky, particularly when captured as expertly as Javi has here. The star-strewn backdrop to those eerily moonlit trees is of course the main event, but Javi adds an extra sprinkling of drama with his considered framing; the darkened vegetation that runs along the bottom of the image contrasting with the starlit brightness of the horizon.

Pattaya, Thailand

‘Three months into our exploration of Southeast Asia, we arrived in Pattaya, en route to Bangkok. Pattaya has somewhat of a party reputation, but its Sanctuary of Truth is an exception. A carved wooden temple of mammoth proportions (2115 sq metres inside), its construction began in 1981 and continues to this day. It is an absolute masterpiece of Buddhist and Hindu carvings and this photo captures the ongoing work. A sign near the entrance explains the intended purpose of the temple, proclaiming that ‘true happiness is found in intrinsic spiritual pleasure’. The temple, made as it is in wood, is considered to be reflection of this – wood deteriorates over time, but the spiritual importance of the soul remains inherent.’ – @lawyerturnedgypsy_travel_blog

Why we like it: This is an image of two halves, and one that really tells a story. At the top of the frame, the intricate wooden carvings of the temple are a sturdy and well-crafted emblem of the past, but scanning over the scaffolding below, the eye is drawn to the mess of raw wood, dirt and building materials on the temple’s floor. Good photography always comes with narrative, and this is the perfect example of a picture speaking a thousand words.

Skeleton Coast Park, Namibia

‘The Skeleton Coast Park in Namibia is a long, dusty road trip through a harsh, barren landscape. With gravel in every direction and only tiny pockets of small, silvery bushes, it’s amazing that anything can survive out here at all, but somehow, life manages to exist. We spotted this lone springbok eyeing us suspiciously as we drove by.’ – Paul and Mark, @anywhere_we_roam

Why we like it: The landscapes of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast are famously arid and expansive, something which Paul and Mark’s image communicates immediately. Aside from the singular (suspicious) springbok, which provides a great focal point for the shot, the varying grey hues that graduate from dark to light throughout the image add a sense of vastness to the frame. This is a great example of subtlety in photography, which really pays off.

prompt: baking sweets & pastries

warnings: physical touch, mentions of food, reader is a menace (affectionately), possibly ooc(?? idk i finished this at 1 am)

"Darling, I love you with all my heart, but just where do you plan on taking me at 1 in the morning?"

A confused and groggy Affogato Cookie followed closely behind a for some reason very awake and bubbly you, not understanding why you decided to drag him out of bed in the middle of the night. Though, he figured you probably wouldn't be answering his question, as all you said in response was, "It's important!" before continuing to pull him down the hall.

A few minutes later, the two of you found yourselves in the kitchen. Affogato gave you a confused look. "Why-" "We're baking midnight snacks and you can't say no!" You quickly cut him off before you rushed to grab the necessary supplies to make some sweet treats.

"Okay, but why-" "I know you like sweets, and I'm hungry, so it's a win-win! Now help me bake these!" Once again cutting him off, you didn't give him any time to respond before dragging him to the mixing bowl and telling him what to do.

After about an hour, the two of you were finally able to take the snacks out of the oven and properly enjoy eating them. "Here, you can have the first one!" You offered, swiftly placing one of the treats in Affogato Cookie's hands. He looked at you for a moment before taking a bite.

The moment he tasted it, his expression lit up. "Oh wow," he spoke between bites, "It's almost hard to believe we made something so sweet! This is absolutely delicious, dear." You gave him a cheeky grin, "Of course it tastes good! We put our hearts into it, after all!"

He couldn't help but smile at your cheesy statement.

To him, your words tasted sweeter than any snacks he's ever had.

the first time you kissed his scars, it surprised him. he's always been rather insecure of them, so having you appreciate his wounds startled him a bit

when he would ask why you were kissing his scars, you would simply respond with, "because I love every part of you."

your response caught him off guard, and the butterflies in his stomach suddenly soared as he quietly watched you continue showering his wounds with kisses, his face reddening just the slightest bit.

after a while, it becomes a thing you always do whenever he returns home from a mission. he begins to look forward to being showered in your affection once more.

even though he thinks he doesn't deserve you, when you kiss his scars, he realises that your love for him is undying, and he decides to do everything he can to become deserving of your affections.

You could sense them.

Their stares, etching into the back of your skull.

You could hear them.

Their whispers, spreading judgement and discontent about you.

It was too much. It was all too much.

You did everything you could to ignore them, ignore their hatred, but even you had your limits.

You had spent most of your day today out and about Dragon City, running various errands and chatting with some friends you happened to run into. You thought that today was going to be a good day.

It started in the afternoon. You were peacefully sitting and eating your lunch at a table outside a quaint little restaurant you often frequented, when you overheard a conversation between some girls across the street.

"Hey, isn't that..." "It is! It's her!" The two of them seemed to be whispering to eachother, but they were still loud enough to hear. When you looked up, both of the girls were looking at you, so you gently smiled and waved at them. However, after you greeted them, the two girls shot eachother almost disgusted looks before walking away. Although their actions confused you, you hoped it wouldn't occur again and went about your day.

But then it happened again. And again. And again and again and again.

And the more it happened, the more confused and worried you got. Why was everyone staring at you? Why was everyone whispering about you? Why did everyone seem repulsed whenever they looked at you? Why-

"You don't deserve it!" some random girl suddenly yelled at you as she purposefully blocked your path. You were stunned. Confused, you asked her, "I... Don't deserve what?"

"You don't deserve anything, idiot!" The girl groaned and rolled her eyes at you, "You have practically everything that anyone in town could ever want, but you didn't do anything to deserve it!"

When you heard those words, said with such malice and hatred, you fell silent.

After a few moments of not knowing how to respond, you bolted back home.

Quickly, you placed everything you bought onto the kitchen counter before rushing to your bedroom to let it all out.

You practically collapsed into your bed, choking out pitiful sobs. They were right. Everything everyone said about you was right. You didn't deserve anything. You did nothing to deserve what you had.

You must have sobbed for hours. You must have been so absorbed in your own self-doubt for you to not notice someone entering the room.

Then, suddenly, you were enveloped in a familiar warmth. Suddenly, you heard a familiar voice trying to comfort you.

"Hey, sweetie, what's wrong?" your husband, Royal Margarine Cookie, gently asked you. You couldn't bring yourself to respond. "You know you can tell me anything, right? No matter what's troubling you, I'll always listen to what you have to say." He pulled you closer to him.

Gingerly, he caressed you and whispered reassurances in your ear. "Hey, it's okay. It'll be okay. Everything will be okay. Just let it all out, my dear. It's alright. I'm here. I'll always be here for you."

After who knows how long, your sobs eventually died down, yet you still clung desperately to your husband. "Now that you've calmed down a bit, mind telling me what's wrong, darling?" Royal Margarine Cookie whispered in your ear.

Quietly, you informed him of your insecurities and what people were saying about you, your voice still hoarse and shaky from crying. "Everyone was saying that I don't deserve anything, and, as much as I hate to admit it, I know they're right."

Suddenly, Royal Margarine Cookie gently grapped your chin and looked you in the eye, a serious expression on his face. "No, they're wrong. Everything they said is wrong," he paused for a moment to kiss your freckles and wipe away any stray tears falling from your eyes, "You do deserve this. You absolutely deserve everything that you have. You deserve the world.

"You're beautiful. You're the most beautiful cookie I've ever met, and you deserve the world."
