note : although i am familiar with the comics , my salem is based mainly within the television series : sabrina the teenage witch , accompanied by my own headcanons ,

salem was born to do great things . a prodigy of the craft , his understanding of magic and all that lent itself to creating wonders was unparalleled by his peers . his ideas were grand , his ambition grander .

he married young , started a family , did all you were supposed to do as a young witch . but his drive lay somewhere entirely different . salem wanted the world . he was talented enough to achieve it , and charismatic enough to convince others it was a good idea . naturally , plot was foiled . everyone was condemned to a life of shame , forced to be house - pets to rub salt in an already sour wound . his friend duke was turned into a parrot , stonehenge to a guinea pig , and he to a cat . his loyal and trusted counterpart , hilda , was tasked to care for him in his feline form . and luckily , that part of the punishment wasn't gruelling for either of them .

however , during his feline years , he grew incredibly close to hilda's niece , sabrina . whether through genuine interest in her talent , or a misplaced need to care for a young girl after abandoning his own , he vowed he'd bring hell upon anyone who caused her harm .

after one hundred and fifty years of fur - balls and flees , he's finally back in human form . man has vowed never to plot against human - kind again . and he's trying valiantly to stick to that .
