I think it's kinda like Janis is so unwilling to see Regina as queer that she insists on explaining it all away. It's a whole 'well, straight girls can be really touchy with their friends. Regina constantly holding me or touching me is just normal straight girl stuff and I'm being really gay and need to stop' sort of thing. It hasn't yet occurred to her that Regina is Not a touchy person normally lol

Once Regina comes out, she'll start recontextualizing all the gay little moments they shared and be like 'oh.....Regina was being gay" while trying not to think about the fact that that means Regina probably was flirting with her, because that would break Janis' brain a little

But there’s also the added layer of Janis’ experiences with Regina in relation to her queerness that’s stopping Janis from considering it. Poor girl hasn’t had one positive experience with Regina and sexuality. Like, in Janis’ mind, Regina is a deeply homophobic straight girl who has just started getting over that prejudice.

Regina is Janis’ ultimate straight girl crush, forever unattainable and forever making it impossible for Janis to move on because she keeps flirting and touching her.

Mostly, at this point, Janis is just gay and confused 😅
