“headcanoning farah as wlw is disrespectful because she’s muslim”
my. my guy. queer people exist in every group. queer muslims very much exist.
“ok but it’s a sin in islam”
WHY ARE WE SUDDENLY JUSTIFYING HOMOPHOBIA WITH RELIGION⁉️⁉️ it’s wrong for a christian to use religion to justify their bigotry, so WHY is it okay to use islam or any other religion to do the same?? i know that i’m comparing the world’s most oppressive religion (christianity) to a religion that’s oppressed, but like… allowing one group to essentially “get a pass” opens the door for EVERY group to get one.
what was even weirder is that the person who made the post about it wasn’t even muslim 😭 they said they looked it up which i believe, but then they had an actual wlw muslim in their comments telling them it wasn’t a big deal— and THEY LITERALLY TOLD THE COMMENTER THAT IT WAS STILL DISRESPECTFUL?? AND OTHER NON-MUSLIMS WERE GOING “grr but it’s a sin >:(” LIKE?? HELLO?? WHY are people not even included in the group talking over ACTUAL MEMBERS OF THE GROUP???
i care very deeply about respecting people’s beliefs and faiths. but once that belief starts to harm others, my respect is withdrawn. the golden rule is that your rights end where another person’s begin. i remember seeing posts from years ago about queer muslims. they’ve always reminded me of queer christians – the vast majority of their faiths hate them, but they do still exist. and it’s possible to be progressive while also being devoted to your faith. i’ve met so many religious folks that are allies and supportive of queer people, so seeing posts like this crop up and gain popularity is just… disheartening. it feels like we’re going backwards after finally making some progress.
#not to mention the fucking astronomical rise in purity culture#so many young people don’t even realize that they’re becoming just as rigid and bigoted#as the older folks they claim to hate and be so much better than#it’s fucking 2023. we have less than 4 months until 2024.#the fact that people– especially people MY AGE– are still using religion to justify hate is insane to me#go back 8 or so years#back when “free the nip” was on the rise and people started reclaiming slurs and celebrating pride#we were somehow more progressive then than we are now#this is such an insignificant situation in the grand scheme of things#but it provides so much insight into the thinking of this generation.#we think we’re being progressive and so respectful and kind and that we’re so much better#because SURELY respecting a religion’s beliefs is the right thing to do#unless it’s christianity. then have at it y’know#but all these people (non-muslims) are doing is justifying bigotry and hatred with the EXACT same arguments that they claim aren’t valid#“you can’t use religion to justify hate!! (unless it’s this religion lol)”#like. that’s not the take you think it is. and we’re never going to progress past these hateful beliefs if you continue to justify it#idk just. as a queer person myself who has a fem oc that i ship with farah because i love her and view her as a very progressive character#seeing people use her to justify outdated bigoted beliefs hurts so bad#her whole character revolves around empowerment. and going against traditions. and not bowing down to what other people say#using her to justify the exact behavior that she fights against just feels disrespectful to HER.#like yes– she’s very likely muslim given where she lives. but she already doesn’t follow several of the practices iirc#and again. ‼️QUEER MUSLIMS EXIST‼️#it’s just. ugh. i’m going in circles atp#i’m going to sleep i’m too tired and migraine-y for the internet

More Majid Stuff
I post once in a blue moon b/c I work in random bursts and get tired easily, but here are some rambles about Majid that I’ve saved in my Notes app and probably haven’t mentioned before!
There are some rumors circulating around Majid regarding his wealth
More specifically: how he got his wealth
All these rumors range from him being a secret son of a noble family to taking shady underground jobs that paid ridiculously well
His name had been searched up more than once, but the only thing that pops up is a bakery business w/ a small branch located in the Land of Hot Sands... not too far from where Majid grew up...
Majid’s a quick learner; he just lacks the motivation lol
Tends to overthink too often, tho, coming up with detailed plans to get out of doing the most mundane stuff
Funny to watch but a pain in the ass to comprehend 😔
Although Majid tries to get out of doing most stuff, there are some things he can’t let slide
He can get picky over how some tasks are done; honestly??? this might be a good tactic on getting him to work (“Hey, Majid. Can you help set up the decorations for tonight’s party?” “No.” “Aaaa, okay, guess we’ll just have Mark do it-“ “Mark? You want to leave decorating to him? Do you want the lounge looking like a highlighter projectile vomited over the walls and ceiling? Give me those streamers. I’ll do it myself-“)
Definitely a quality over quantity kind of person; his room may be a mess of different things, but, rest assured, it’s only the best of the best of stuff that stay for long like lava lamps
I want to say that Majid is picky about a lot of things in general, but he does have his exceptions; for example: food, napping locations, job opportunities, ummm (・_・;) That’s most of what I can think of right now, dang
This pickiness is kiiind of 👉👈 referencing a trait that the Cave of Wonders has; like the whole “only a diamond in the rough shall enter here“ business that was going on idk I’m trying my best
As you can see, I went ham when it came to the “Who disturbs my slumber” line the tiger head had lol 😅(sorry that had become your defining trait, m’boi)
And the mass of riches he’s accumulated over the years was another obvious reference to the inside of the cave as well; can also act as a loose metaphor of what’s stopping him from getting the help he needs; as the treasures in the cave were put there w/ the intent of distracting a person from the ultimate goal of the magic lamp, so does his own treasures serve as a temporary distraction from moving forward in his life
But if that’s too much of a stretch, then plz slap the inner English teacher in me and then myself
Majid’s good at looking through people’s facades and judging a person’s true character, but it’s not like he does much w/ this info
Unless they try confronting him or something, he just avoids/shuts down people he gets bad vibes from
Doesn’t make tactless comments; figured out that dealing with pissed off people was more work than it’s worth
Boi tends to ask a lot of questions when speaking to other people; partly b/c of trust issues; partly b/c he might be lowkey judging you (can’t use his unique magic all the time after all :/)
He’s the type of person who acts like he knows everything, but he really doesn’t; just hates getting looked down upon in general; will bluff his way through situations by being as vague as possible
He leans towards how his mother used to speak; that is: beating around the bush
He won’t lie to you, but it might take some time until he’ll give you the whole truth; and when I say it’ll take some time, IT REALLY WILL TAKE SOME TIME B/C THIS BOY IS UNBELIEVABLY STUBBORN
Is casual to whoever he speaks to, no matter the age; if he gets extremely annoyed with someone, especially if they’re older than him, he’ll use this over exaggerated polite tone that makes it real obvious he’s fed up with them
Gets ticked off whenever anyone advises him to do anything, but he’ll still take that advice to heart
Majid’s probably tired all the time b/c of all the jewelry he’s carrying around smh
Majid sounds/looks like he’s angry all the time, but that’s just his resting face 😔; I mean, he’s always a little irritated, but it’s mostly b/c he’s stuck in that state of being forced awake from a deep afternoon nap (b/c... that’s usually what happens to him)
Plus, have you met his upperclassmen? Have you seen what was going on in Scarabia during Chapter 4?????? Have you met the headmaster of this school???????? (; ω ; )
He doesn’t like people touching stuff that’s his; same thing goes for people touching stuff in general that aren’t theirs; doesn’t like thieves (he’s stolen stuff when he was younger, but he justifies that he only did so to survive; and he’s not entirely wrong)
Ironic b/c his mom was a thief 🤭
He’s also a pretty obedient student save for the whole “trying to sleep in class w/o getting caught” thing that he’s still trying to accomplish; doesn’t like it when the professors get strict with him but will grit his teeth and bear with it
Prefers magic carpets to magic broomsticks; there’s just a lot more surface area when it comes to carpets plus he’s more familiar with the former
Spends a lot of his time in the Scarabia storage room b/c it reminds him of his bedroom back home; probably became buddies w/ Kalim’s magic carpet while he was there too
But if we’re talking about the type of people Majid could tolerate befriending uummm... maybe those with good hearts?? Idk, like those who are genuinely trying to be a good person no matter what kind of obstacles they run into (referencing how the cave of wonders only let a diamond in the rough enter)
They don’t have to be all nice or sweet, but as long as Majid can tell they have kind intentions, he won’t immediately leave them
Has a “haaah... these guys are hopeless... might as well keep an eye on them so they don’t screw up any more than they already have” attitude towards these people
Other type of person Majid would unintentionally befriend are those who are also annoyed of being told what to do by upperclassmen/authority figures; ☺️🙏 vent out your frustrations together wooo
Has some squabbles with Leona when it comes to napping locations
It’s actually pretty funny to watch b/c they both don’t want to give up their spot but also they don’t want to bother getting up
Leona wins most of the time, tho
Majid may have had a lot of energy when he was younger but now he’s a g e d
I rarely mention Majid’s lava illusion magic thing, but yeah that’s a thing; he probably won’t be able to use it to its full extent until his last year of high school and maybe a little bit later; it takes up a ton of energy; I keep on imagining him using it and joking that “aaaa the floor is lava lol”, but then I remember the psychological effects this ability has on the victim and 😬 yikes scratch that
Majid has a loud clear voice when he speaks; often startles whoever’s walking by when he naps in the shadows
As a result of spending most of his time w/o a stable support system and no one static to guide his beliefs, Majid doesn’t follow any particular religion; he does have coworkers back at the curio/appraisal/pawn shop who do, tho, and while he doesn’t entirely understand it, he respects them as much as he can
I’ve said before that Majid selfishly keeps all his wealth to himself for fear of losing his self worth, but there are some exceptions (such as to anyone he passes who’s begging in the streets, a coworker who’s struggling to make ends meet, etc.)
He’s fine with giving away some money, but not in huge amounts
And if he’s giving money to anyone, it’s done in a round about way; usually w/ a dismissive excuse
If this boi had a route, depending on how the MC acts around him, the majority of it will be spent breaking down those walls and befriending him; generally going like this: shovel all trust issues into incinerator one by one —>Get him to tolerate you —> Get him to trust you —> Befriend (?) Him —> Deal w/ his other deep seated issues —-> Romance (if we’re going for that otome game kinda thing i guess???))
I can just imagine Majid temporarily visiting the Land of Hot Sands w/ MC after befriending him and finding out the truth about his parents through his boss at the curio shop; MC encourages him to travel north to pay a visit at some facility b/c it’s rumored that at least his father is still alive
(No idea what happened to Lara; probably suffered worse consequences due to making several prison breaks; had decently powerful magical abilities, so that would probably explain the whole forced amnesia thing that happened after their disappearance)
Majid is torn b/w wanting to go alone b/c this is a personal matter (And he wants MC to be safe) and being scared of losing MC if something horrible happens to him on his journey north; he knows what it’s like to be suddenly abandoned, and he doesn’t want that for anybody, especially for someone he cares about
He doesn’t want to repeat his father’s mistakes, regardless if it was accidental or not
Majid decides to go on his own; probably had some touching parting w/ MC; maybe we’ll go full otome and have a hugging CG where he swears that he will be back for MC
And MC is just like “Aight;;; cool;;; good luck;;”; something sentimental like that
Couple of days passed; we’re worried about him
He returns with a worried look on his face before breaking into a relieved smile when he sees MC; power walks to hug them even tighter than before
Majid thanks them for all they’ve done; he then spends the rest of the day and well into the night describing all he’s experienced and his visit with his dad
They go back to NRC and Majid is less bratty than before, much to the surprise of Jamil and to the delight of Kalim; actually starts to make an effort to not push people away at every opportunity (b/c he originally felt like they all had their own hidden agenda and were just using him for their own gain, y’know)
Boi becomes even more clingy towards MC; by that, I don’t mean he’s overly attached to them (he’s afraid of making the same mistake he did in the past), but rather he shows it through light casual touches here and there (a brush of the fingers when exchanging papers, patting MC’s head when they do something well, gently tugging at their sleeve when he needs their attention) and constantly checking up on them to see how they’re doing
Awkward levels in Majid increase as he constantly wonders if he’s crossing a line when it comes to him showing any kind of affection; he doesn’t want to come off as creepy and make MC hate him
Might also resist being given love and affection at first; but once he gets used to it, he absolutely m e l t s
Cuddles are 👌; might give teary eyes if MC tries to leave early during a cuddling session, but he won’t pressure them to stay; a touch starved boi
Doesn’t think much of PDA, giving or receiving; full on making out and anything further is kind of a no-go, tho; hugging is nice and so are short and sweet kisses; will glare at anybody who says anything about it
If his s/o was clingier than he is, he might get a little embarrassed; same thing goes if his s/o was really cute
Definitely the type of boyfriend to buy random gifts for his s/o b/c these things reminded him of them
Younger Majid was in full on puppy mode all the time, or at least when he was around people he liked; also a huge people pleaser too, since he was afraid of them leaving him
He was probably reckless too in order to entertain his friends
Was really polite, especially when it came to adults; always calling them Mister and Miss(us)
He was also just loud
Future Majid (if he came to terms with most of his problems) would be more mellow than his teenage self; still anti-social but he’s less angry at the world now; would go on to own the curio shop after the previous owner passed on; reverted it into both a jewelry/appraisal shop in order to honor his father plus respect the previous owner’s memory as well
Sells and repairs jewelry and appraises supposedly rare items that come through his store; still does odd jobs for the people in the neighborhood but his prices aren’t as outrageously high as he made them when he was younger
He names the new store after his mother, at the request of his father (plus I only recently heard the song “House of Gold” by Twenty One Pilots and hnnnmmg it fits well with this golden boy)
Majid is interested in most things related to jewelry, probably subconsciously influenced by his father; this includes repairing bits of jewelry; he moves delicately when it comes to these kinds of tasks
He’s a night owl; it’s much quieter at night
Has bad posture from sleeping in different weird places
His body is prone to heating up easily; the fact that he lives in the Land of Hot Sands and was also sorted into Scarabia is just unfortunate luck
Sneaks off to cooler areas on campus in his free time to chill; one of his favorite spots is the Octavinelle lounge since it’s air conditioned and dark, and he can get away with taking a nap before going over his time limit and getting kicked out
The library is nice too (´∀`)
Would like to go to Ignihyde too, but he’s put off by the feeling of being underground (gotta have that bit of irony like Jamil being afraid of bugs 👌)
He tolerates Kalim better than Jamil; probably b/c the latter scolds him for slacking off
Actually went to Kalim for tutoring advice once before realizing part of the way that his senior had no idea what he was doing; Jamil has earned his respect when it comes to academics
Kinda jealous of the duo’s stamina; Majid’s usually heaving for air after long marches or if he’s ever chosen as a backup dancer for one of Scarabia’s many parties; he’s the ( ・∇・) least athletic of my OCs...
No, he can’t dance, but he can feign the movements well enough to not get caught

a concept
U know how in the comics Aang starts rebuilding the air nation with ppl who are basically converts to their religion? By like teaching them about the air nomad’s ways and stuff?
What if he gave some of them air bending using energy bending? And they could start re-building the air nation and it’s culture by teaching them everything!! They could even start moving back into the temples now that they could fly and rebuilding
They’d even have the bison!! According to the wiki aang found a living herd after the war !!
Idk just. As a Jewish person genocide stories are really really personal to me. And the thought of being the last of my people is terrifying
I just really want the air nation to have a chance to rebuild in a natural way. And I think that like letting ppl choose to convert and gifting them with air bending would probably be the best way
Ik aang’s kids and grandkids have air bending but trying to rebuild an entire nation from one bloodline is.... not the best idea
And I also know that in lok a bunch of ppl are given air bending, but that whole story really rubs me the wrong way (no hate to lok though!! There are parts I like!!)
Under the cut is basically an explanation as to why I take issue w/ it and find it mildly offensive/an essay about cultural appropriation in general lol. but i don’t wanna kill ppl’s dashes so if you wanna see the explanation check there
but i really think that aang like.... allowing ppl to convert, and teaching them, and gifting them w/ airbending in the most natural/best way for that story to go and i wanted to share that!! :)
anyway time for a whole essay because i.... apparently need to explain and justify every single one of my opinions. i’ma blame the adhd.
I have 2 main issues w/ the new air bender plot. a) the air Nomad religion/culture is pretty explicitly seen as a closed one and b) it’s sort of a cop-out.....
so... first:
Air bending is pretty explicitly a huge part of the air nomad culture and religion and is extremely spiritual. bc of how religious and spiritual it is the idea of ppl just.... randomly being given it really rubs me the wrong way.
It’s really really hard for me to explain this or come up with an irl example, bc these ppl didn’t ask for air bending, or try to gain it in anyway. So it’s not really their fault. But to me it feels almost like accidental cultural appropriation? If that makes sense
Which like. cultural appropriation is obviously bad. Even in the comic I originally referenced (the promise) Aang is initally really really offended by the people practicing the air Nomad religion when he first finds out!!! Which he should be!!!
There’s a difference between cultural appropriation, culture appreciation, and sharing culture. The first is bad, and the second 2 are good when done correctly.
Ima use an irl example w/ Judaism just bc using this personal experiences is apparently the only way my brain knows how to explain things
Scenario 1: Amanda (who is xtian) decides to research the Jewish holiday of Passover and the traditions behind it just bc she’s interested in it
This is cultural appreciation! She’s just learning about smthn she finds interesting. This is generally ok! although in some cultures there is knowledge that you are not supposed to know or discuss if you are not part of that culture and you should 100% respect that if it is the case
Scenario 2: Amanda learns about the Passover seder and decides to throw one herself
Dont fucking do this omfg. This is cultural appropriation. Passover is a super important and religions holiday! It’s one of the high holy days and celebrating it on her own isn’t ok!
Scenario 3: Amanda asks her Jewish freind Alex if she can come to his Passover seder
This is cultural appreciation and cultural sharing!! It’s totally valid!! She respectfully asks to join in and be included!
it’s diffrent from cultural apropriation for one huge reason. she is joining in, rather than celebrating it on her own with no jewish ppl present
Scenario 4: Amanda eats gefitlefish just bc she likes it
this is appreciation! even though there are no jewish ppl involved! bc gefiltefish isn’t a holy/religious/spiritual thing.
different aspects of different cultures have different levels of importance. as a general rule, if smthn is holy/religious, you should not do anything with it, unless invited by someone of that culture. if it’s not then you can generally do it on ur own (though there is some grey area there. ie, moccasins are smthn that aren’t religious to native americans, but if ur not native you shouldn’t be producing and selling them. if you want moccasins by them from actual natives)
scenario 5: amanda contacts a rabbi and starts the conversion process
this is...... just conversion lol. when she is finished with the process (which can take months/years) she’ll no longer be xtian and be jewish!! just as much as anyone who was born into judiasm. she’ll be able to host her own seders and any of her children will be jewish as well :)
sorry for the really long thing!! but i felt it was necessary to show the difference between some concepts that seem similar but are actually vastly different!!
anyway, i hope y’all understand the difference between cultural appropriation/appreciation/sharing. if ur asking urself “ok why does it matter tho” friendly reminder that alot of irl ppl have been murdered for trying to peacefully observe their cultures/religions :)
including the air nomads! (hey segway...)
they are literally hunted to extension because they are part of one culture/religion. you could argue it’s a racism thing (which it is) but race, culture, ethnicity and religion are all inherently tied. see: almost every non-xtian religion worldwide
SO. when you consider that a) the nomads were killed for their religion b) airbending was incredibly significant part of that religion, isn’t it weird that random people who have 0 connection or interest in that religion suddenly have airbending??
again it becomes like accidental cultural appropriation. which you can’t really blame the characters for in-world
but, these aren’t real ppl. they’re characters in a situation that was written by real ppl, real ppl who can and should be criticized
not that i’m trying to call the creators bigoted in anyway! this dosn’t seem like anything that was meant to be offensive. and it’s not really that offensive unless you think about it. to me it just seems like a plot point that wasn’t fully thought through. i don’t bring it up to shame the creators, just as a way to show others why it’s smthn not to be repeated
and, to show a better way to do a similar story
the reason i went so in depth w/ the explanation of cultural appropriation vs appreciation vs conversion is bc i wanna show why a different way of approaching a similar story would have been better
the reason i think my whole idea (of ppl basically contacting aang or the air nomads, converting to the religion, and then being gifted air bending through energy bending) is better than ppl being randomly gifted it is bc conversion takes work
to convert to any culture or religion you a) need a connection to someone in that culture (usually made by reaching out to a religious leader) and b) need to actually be accepted by that group in order to be considered one of them. it takes work and dedication. it’s a literal transfer of culture!! it’s just... ack i’m not good at explaining it
but dosn’t it make so much more sense that ppl who actually worked to integrate themselves into the culture and become one of them are givin airbending? not because it’s a privilege but bc they need to first become part of the culture in order to have any right or claim to it
but by just giving it to random non-benders it’s basically the reverse!! yes they later learn the culture and religon, but???? thats not how that works??? wtf???
i feel like i’ve been talking in circles and i’m sorry if i’ve bored everyone to death but i hope u understand my point.
anyway! next thing! (i swear this part will be way shorter)
by just making a bunch of random ppl airbenders it basically retcons one of the longlasting effects of the 100 yr war and almost just... erases the impact of the air nomad’s genocide
which. is gross and uncomfortable. genocide stories are touchy subjects and smthn that need to be treated with respect
just giving random ppl airbending it’s almost like the genocide didn’t matter at all. which i take a huge fucking issue w/ ok and i don’t feel like i need to explain why
instead of a natural rebuilding of the air nomads it’s just fixed with spirit magic. it’s just... an insult to the really compelling and well written genocide story that was in atla and an insult to the irl ppl who related to that story
so. yeah.... again i’m not trying to call out the creators, i again think this plotline was more accidentally insulting than purposefully
i already propsed a better way to do it by allowing converts to gain the ability to airbend. (hell it dosn’t even need to come from energy bending or aang. the air nomads were incredibly spiritual, maybe a spirit gifted it to the ppl who earned it instead of random fucking ppl)
but the other reason that converts instead of just.... random ppl gaining the ability is better is bc there aren’t gonna be that many ppl to convert!! there’s not gonna be some sudden boom in the airbending population!! theres would still be a story of the nation slowly healing and rebuilfing itself instead of the insulting sudden magic fix
oof. sorry for the long freaking thing. i literally went into this just wanting to share an idea and instead spent over an hour analyzing this stuff lol....
i hope this was coherent but if anyone’s got questions about anything i said feel free to @ me or shoot me an ask :) as long as ur polite and stuff i’ll answer to the best of my ability

I’m not good with gaming and i never really imagined myself finishing any game, so this was a whole new experience for me... I really sucked. At one point i remember even crying when i just couldn’t fight smth. I hate asking for help (i’m infinitely grateful for it), or even looking “how to do this” bc i feel like i cheat, while when i just can’t beat smth in the game it makes me feel dumb. But i learned that usually happens bc i’ve been playing for too long.
So where to start.... The thing i liked most is the lore. Not just the content of it (which is very entertaining) but also the way it’s portrayed: through conversations, through various notes you find around, and it’s not just “well this is how it is” but rather sometimes contradictory claims that reflect different cultures. I love how you only ever see one country, but hear a lot about the others (well mostly Orlais, but there are tidbits from other countries as well), but also various cultures. I also love how the complex situation is in the game. The question of mages, the repression of elves, the dwarves and their culture, the question of religion.
The game is really good at setting the moral ambiguity and make you have hard choices. Once you realise there’s a pattern it does get easier, but some just make you wonder a lot what is the better choice.
While we’re at it let me talk some quests and decicions.
Free the elves?
So the easiest choice (though i don’t really think there was much of choosing) is the elves-slavery in denerim. Free elves, free citizens, i don’t even understand how did they get to be second-class citizens (or maybe i just forgot, i’ look it up), but they literally did nothing wrong, aren’t dangerous and frankly, there’s so much wilds in ferelden, i don’t see what’s the problem. However, though i don’t know if that was implied, if you go strictly against slavery, but this was a deal made between ferelden and tevinter, you risk a decline in diplomatic relationship as well as economy i assume, so it could be a setback. But again, if you have free citizens elves that are not just piled in one place, you can freshen up your own economy with capable workers. Like, even if you regret breaking a relationship with tevinter (that doesn’t even happen but i was thinking about it at the time), and the elves riot and go against you once you do give them freedom bc lot of bad history between ferelden and elves i guess, it’s still a morally & practically easy choice.
Free the mages?
This was... hmm... mage rights... I LOVE how they went about this problem. So the mages are problematic bc doing magic also means you can get posessed by a demon which results in a catstrophe (like that kid that demolished redcliffe). So they’re locked into a circle tower where they are trained and have a rigorous discipline and are under the watch of templars who might kill them if they try to escape? Mages who actually do escape the tower get hunted down and are forced back, or they get killed, especially if they attempt the bloodmagic (immoral dangerous magic practice?).
It’s kind of obvious that the game leans more to the mage rights (i mean, i wish there was a more memorable templar who isn’t like “mages are bad” by default, but they are kinda trained that way. tbh i just wish we had more templars...). At first, the only mage (other than that one in ostagar) you acutally meet is morrigan, who... who is not a very good example of “why people think mages are bad”. She’s cool, she handles magic really good, yeah she seems to be against the world, but what can you exepect when templars would kill her on sight? Even when alistair is constantly suspecting her, he’s basing that on her being a mage, and not on her saying really creepy immoral stuff. So initially i was all for mage rights. Then things didn’t really help much in the circle tower bc all templars were for just killing all the mages bc things got out of hands. Retrospectively i get where they’re coming from, but still, they seemed really incapable at the time. But then i met wynne, and she told me her backstory. And what really stuck with me is that
1) they find out she’s a mage bc she set someone on fire = mages are dangerous
2) while one templar ignored her completely, the other templar that brought her to the tower was nice to her and carried her on his shoulder (which is very cute) = templars don’t have to be so antagonistic towards mages and
3) the circle tower does not only protect the people from mages, but also the mages from people, bc people are bigoted and scared and will kill a mage = a social/cultural problem.
In any case, i feel like simply freeing mages just like that would turn out to be a terrible mistake bc they are kinda walking time-bombs and they’d be ostracized from society which would make them turn desperate bc no protection, then you get easily corruptible, and so it brings lot of trouble. That being said, obviously, it’s bad to keep people locked up in a tower for life. So i guess i’m more for reforming the circle with mages being treated as humans and not walking time-bombs, templars not being taught to be antagonistic towards mages, but rather their partners(?) bodyguards(?), mages having right to employment once they prove they’re capable of handling magic well, and if needed take one templar with them so people can feel safe. The Circle is already institution made for the rights for the mages, it just needs a lot of work on it. Idk. there wasn’t much of the ~what’s it like to live in the circle~ since you walk into a disaster, so i don’t want to be all in for the mages or all against the mages. I’m a dwarf. Magic is domain i don’t bother to understand.
Orzammar social problems
Tradition vs. reform, at the cost of a monarch or a dictator. That was actually a really easy choice if you’re playing a dwarf. If i played a noble dwarf, i’d defintely choose Harrowmont bc he’s 1) nicer, 2) looks more capable, 3) doesn’t seem that powerhungry. But this also means that current system based on castes. Equality is not even a myth there, it’s an apocalyptic outlook. Which takes another form of a bad side when you have the ostracized casteless dwarves, stripped of all rights and treated like dirt (and that was my warden). So, harrowmont is the safe choice for a current state. Nobody really cares who’s on the throne bc nobody expects the system to change. But if you choose Behlen for a king (who’s accused of murdering his father), you get a reformist who is open to including the casteless in some form into the system. As canon fodder. Despite the grim outlook of being used as a canon fodder, it does open a possibility of upping your status based on the merits. The paragon system is already such a leeway to better your status (bc if you do something outstanding that the drawves, you are revered as a god), but it’s virtually impossible to do something of that scale as a casteless (unless you.. finish the game). On the other hand if you choose Behlen, it’s pretty obvious he’s powerhungry dictator. But i chose behlen bc my sister was his concubine and prospect of including casteless in any form would be a good offer for a casteless dwarf.
Kill/let the mother kill the child or do this bloodmagic-not-so-bloodmagic(?) ritual to save him?
Ah, my disaster. So, of course, i wanted to help the kid, and when the bloodmage said there’s a ritual that can be performed, i just needed to get other mages there, i chose that, i went to the circle tower, i did the whole damn mission there, got back to the kid and, like the fool i am, went straight to the boy instead of talking first to mages, which resulted in me alone dealing with him, which resulted in me making his mother kill him, get yelled on by alistair and there’s no option “it was on accident” to say to him (which frankly would be a terrible thing to say), and then he starts putting himself down bc now my warden is trying to justify herself, which is another level of misery bc i’m fighting a really nice guy who hates children being killed and feels bad that he’s angry about that. anyways, that was a mess from start to finish.
speaking of other messes,
Haven village mission
well, there’s no hard choice in this mission, it’s “side with fanatics who worship a dragon or be reasonable and find the urn”. (i do wonder what do you get from siding with fanatics now). but this mission was such a rollercoaster for me. I did everything backwards. You come into this creepy little isolated village where nobody likes you and they are some kind of fanatics of older gods. So it turns out that first you’re supposed to walk into one house and find a corpse there, which i totally overlooked so instead i killed the merchant in the village, went to the church, killed everyone there, then went out and killed everyone in the village, i found genitivi (a researcher who got captured there), but i still couldn’t finish the mission until i got into that villagers house and saw the corpse that was supposed to be my first inkling of supicion for the village. So the whole storyline didn’t make any sense. And later, when i was supposed to walk humbly to the urn, i was supposed to first leave all my belongings on an oltair, so i did, but didn’t realise i was actually supposed to do that so i took them back and then i couldn’t put them back again on the altair, so i had to fight that guard there and died lol. I hated every part of that mission. it was creepy, hard and i’m lucky i didn’t smash the urn in the end.
The werewolf problem
That one was easy, like, the whole problem of werewolves is bc the head elf lives for too long and there’s nothing so fitting as holding grudges for eternity which endangers the whole clan. I have only one complaint and that is my god the forest is confusing. Each time i go into the forest i get lost.
The golem quest was fun bc that end with Shale randomly killing a chicken always gets me. I love it. Return to ostagar was on the other hand very uneventful for me, but i did see a video with what banter you have if you have wynne and loghain in your party and it’s really intense how wynne keeps attacking him.
Random thought, but today i watched this video about dragon age origins and the guy said that mages are best for combats bc they can do most damage in range, which is probably true, but tbh most of the time for me it was usually the mage who dies in the battle. Morrigan is super useful for attacks, and Wynne for defense, but they’re both as frail as daisies and i’m left with low-stamina melee fighters. And that happens when you’re fighting an archdemon. You’re crying as you drink your last health poultice. You wish you brought wynne. But wynne had been dying just as often, which renders her power of revival pretty useless.
And now, the characters. Lets start humbly with my own.
This game made me realise i’m bad at roleplaying. I scroll through tumblr and see how people just love the character they’ve created and they are so cool and seem so interesting. Me? let me show how i create my character: i don’t like using magic bc magic is often complicated so mage is out of the question. warriors are usually strong so i can’t relate, so i’ll be a rouge and talk people into doing the dirty work for me. i loved elves so fiercly as a kid i got fed up with them and can’t stand them so i’ll not be an elf, but humans seem boring so i’ll be a dwarf. After all i’m short, i can relate. Bonus points, they are imune to magic. Since i’m casteless, i decided to look ugly (i’ve been told my warden looks like the crying cat meme). In the end, compared to the rest of my warden’s family, she looked like an adopted child. At the beginning i had the idea that i would make this character grow from “in it for herself” to “a hero” bc it’s a typical hero story anyway, but in the end it was just a self insert with really dumb mistakes who doesn’t get what she’s signed up to. I guess it’s easier to actually make interesting characters once you already know the stories and the choices so it’s easier to choose according to the characterisation you make and not “what if i screw up?”.
Alistair
So after you get chosen by Duncan (a cool honorable guywho gives you chance to make something of your casteless self and then makes you drink poison), the first guy you meet is alistair - a fellow grey warden who used to train to be a templar (which is as far as we go in meeting templars) and happens to be a king’s bastard son. He is dorky, funny, a genuinely nice person and on level of insecurity that even surpasses mine. He’s impossible to dislike. What i really like about the characters is that they’re super simple, which makes them both their charm and their annoying trait. for example, he often puts himself down, which i relate and am symphatetic and am all “nah you’re really nice”, but the next time he does that i’m “mate, you gotta stop doing that”. But it’s still kinda cute.
What did irk me throughout the game is him being my senior, but making me the leader. I literally pass the test 1 day before everybody gets killed and he is the only grey warden who knows what grey wardens do. Not only that, he’s like the only guy with me at the beginning who knows where’s what and knows the culture. I’m a friggin dwarf who is afraid that i’ll fall into the sky, have no interest to get myself killed, but now i’m a leader. But that’s not even the issue, bc i am already the main character. The problem is when every character in the game acts as if i’m the only surviving grey warden when alistair is right there. “Only you can do that, oh you’re a grey warden”. Alistair knows more about grey wardens than i ever will. I wish they just mention “can either of you two”. It’s like he doesn’t exist lol. I didn’t take him often to missions and pretended he’s doing some grey warden business i know nothing about. The only character who makes sense to completely ignore alistair as a grey warden is anora. But whatever, he doesn’t want any spotlight, so i guess he’s happy being considered “that sidekick grey warden”. Even as frustrating as it was, i really liked his avoiding of responsibility whatsoever and his low confidence, it really makes room for character growth.
Dog
the best character in da:o.
Morrigan
She’s obviously a polar opposite to alistair - overconfident, kind of mean, kind of selfish, her jokes are mean. I mean, when i imagine alistair i imagine a dog, when i imagine morrigan, that’s a cat. And while as a person i don’t really like her that much, but her dynamics with other characters are really fun. What really made me love her is that mystery “is she evil or not”, ( which I guess she’s not considering she’s still a buddy in later games(?)), but combined with her relationship with flemeth who also might or might not be evil. she keeps opposing her mother while being compliant to her. She does what flemeth asks bc she knows that flemeth is more powerful. It makes you wonder how terrible her upbringing was if you’re certain your mom has some fishy plans in which you might get killed in the process. But instead of just running away and doing exactly the opposite of what flemeth commands, even after hearing she’s dead, she still goes on with flemeth’s idea, so i’m guessing she just wants the demon baby for herself(?). In any case, her (justified?) paranoia with flemeth makes her really compelling.
SPEAKING OF DEMON BABY, turns out the reason flemeth saved the warden and alistair was so that the warden could convince alistair to have sex with morrigan. which means that if the warden is a guy, and let us assume a straight guy, she’s counting on at least 50% chance of the male straight guy hating morrigan so much he would sooner convince the other guy who definitely hates morrigan to have sex with her than doing it himself. Yikes.
Sten
Sten is a character you respect. Some things he said really resonated with me and it made me think a lot. His regret over killing that family totally flew over me at that time (bc zevran was talking his head off how he killed this guy and that guy so who cares about sten killing some family, i’m already going to hell for tolerating assassins and making a mother kill her child), but later it was quite peculiar that he’s so ready to kill me and he’s pretty ruthless at everything he does, so you’d think this big guy has no problem getting over this. His regret made me more interested in his culture and his rigorous honour-code. I’d really love to see Par Vollen. At the end i even told him i was going to be joining him on his way back to Par Vollen (i wanted a new character for awakening), but that didn’t work out sadly :(
Leliana
I think most endearing part of Leliana is that she truly seems to believe all the right things, even though you’re made suspicious considering she was (or is?) a spy. That woman talks so much. And she’s always in the right. Always. Making a spy become a hardcore believer in god is cool, bc i always doubt her. She knows her way with words, she always says what you want/need to hear. Of course she would be playing a religious girl if that meant she could convince me that she’s harmless. But it’s also fun that she truly believes it and has a hard time convincing you that considering you keep doubting everything she says. I really like her.
Zevran
I was really surprised when i saw that Zevran is a fan-favourite. I guess it’s that he has a tragic-slave-turned-assassin backstory. I... am completely indifferent towards him. I’m sorry. He was just that one bisexual hedonist assassin who happens to have been a slave long time ago. I guess, by the time i got his backstory, i was already immune to angst... But thinking back, i really like that he’s the bad guy in his backstory, he’s the one doing betraying, while leliana for example got betrayed. And i’m a little bit sad that all he learned from that episode was that assassins are expandable, while, when you look at it, he fails to realise everybody in antiva is expendable. That’s a really crazy country right there. I mean, he’s killing people right and left, and never really thinks back about them. Even if he doesn’t like to do it (which he never really said he does, but it’s not like he had a choice so let’s give a benefit of the doubt), he never really thinks about his victims. The only thing that made him realise that he was expandable was his killing of his partner/lover. (or if he figured that out, i didn’t notice it). But yeah, bragging about sex and death doesn’t do it for me i guess. I did love his banters with Wynne. You can see how she’s trying to get him to open up, to see that there’s more to him than a hedonist, and she just giving up every time when he makes it about sex.
Wynne
Wynne is my top 3 faves. She’s also the reason i’m not against the Circle. Before i met her, i was all “yeah mages should be free and don’t need any control” bc there’s just morrigan and a bad case of not-taking-care-of-your-child-mage posession thing. But then Wynne starts talking about her life in the circle and you see that it’s not just “we hate mages so we keep them imprisoned”. You see that learning magic is hard (morrigan makes it look easy, ok?) and disaster can happen in a blink of an eye. And you find out how flawed she was, and it feels like she really learned from her experiences. And she’s so openminded and genuinely nice, typical granma-mentor-character. Best human in the camp.
Shale
Another one of my top 3 faves. Shale won me over the moment they murdered that poor chicken. I love having shale in my missions, they’re useful, they’re snappy, they’re perfect. And finding out that shale used to be shayle, a dwarf noble who willingly became a golem was one of my fave missions. I was so focused on the myth & legend of branka, that shale took me by surprise. And imagining a dwarf lady with shale’s personality makes me want to go back in time and meet shayle ;__;
Oghren
He’s pretty much like zevran: i like him, but too many alcoholic-jokes. Out of all characters, he looks like the biggest comic-relief. I like how insanely loyal he is. And I liked being his wingman x)
Loghain
I really like him. I shouldn’t like him as much as i do. i wish he could have been in a party earlier or without alistair-walking-out consequences. You start seeing that he’s not just a bad guy when you see that he’s always sad there when anora is scolding him. And I really loved that anecdote with him ruining every rose he touches so he found a rose and brought it home himself. Awww. If he didn’t order me executed at sight, i’d be his best friend. His paranoia (or justified fear?) of orlesian invasion made him do lot of political mistakes, but you can see he has good intentions. He’s not a bad guy. And he’s really clever. But also i will never understand how he didn’t get rid of Rendon Howe.
I’m so conflicted over him abandoning Cailan. I hated cailan, but to him, cailan was almost flesh and blood(?) I mean, he’s everything that’s left of two people he loved so abandoning him must have been terrible. I’m still trying to wrap my head around why he would go to that length to betray cailan rather than forcefully take him back by the means of drugging him and carrying him back to denerim. Maybe cailan was so problematic with his ideals before and this was just one decision too much. But then again, loghain was dealing with idealistic maric since forever. I don’t know. He’s just such a compelling character to me. I wouldn’t recruit him storywise bc i feel like his time was over. He had to die there. you know how in stories, the hero can’t live too long, bc there is no being the hero the second time. They’re always tragic. And since he attempted to be the hero again, he had to pay the price and become a villain. And he needs to tragically die. Which makes him more memorable than saint marric.
Also i watched a video with what happens if you go back to ostagar with loghain and wynne and it’s whoa... wynne is merciless with her attacks on loghain.
Anora
MY QUEEN. I was debating a lot whether alistair should be a king or not and then anora showed up and everything became clear. She’s such an amazing person. You can see her as righteous, as powerhungry, as manipulator, as terrible or wonderful and all of that would be true. She’s ready to do everything to keep that throne. You can see she loves her father, but she is going against him and is relying on your mercy for his life, and accepts his death so quickly. She implies that, while she did love cailan, her marriage was arranged and her husband an idealistic fool and she’s not surprised how he ended up. And sure, she’s telling you all you want to hear: that she loved him, that she was warning him about what his idealism will get him to, but can you really trust her? Especially with cailan’s correspondence between arl eamon, where eamon is trying to get rid of anora, and empress celene, who’s suspicious to say the least. I could easily imagine she did not warn, but support cailan in his idealistic views bc he hinders her rule with his blind idealism. I could just as easily accept that she truly did love him, and she did warn him, but alas, her husband is a fool. Everyone is against her in the game, and if i didn’t get her to win that throne after everything she’s done to get it, it would just be sad to watch. which brings me to the mission:
Choosing a ruler
Anora proved more than anyone that she’s the best candidate. Setting alistair on that throne would feel so ungrateful, he had no agency whatsoever in becoming a king and if i married him to anora, then i’d just get another pawn in her - or eamon’s - hands bc it’s obvious who’s playing the game here. I’d feel bad for alistair. He should get his own development based by his own merits rather than ~king’s blood~. Also with setting him on the throne you change nothing bc he can’t have kids anyway (unless you count the demon baby which would get this to another level of really messed up succession stories), and anora (according to eamon) seems to not be able to have kids(?) so they’re basically the same. Also, anora has unlimited time to rule, while alistair will die in what like, 10 years? and what then? Morrigan becomes queen regent bc she’s the baby-demon’s mother? That’s a disaster. And anora is right when she says that setting up a grey warden after they’ve been proclaimed enemies of the state only makes it look bad. I have learned that grey wardens, it turns out, are very political, but i just didn’t want to be. Also, alistair devotion was literally never towards marric and only for duncan. He even kills Loghain for duncan, and not for cailan. I really like anora being a queen. I know i can’t count on her bc she is ruthless like loghain, but also loyal only to the kingdom. It feels like, that’s the only thing she got to choose in her life and she’s willing to sacrifice everything for it. And that makes her a good ruler.
the ritual
oh man. that was... awkward. I knew it was gonna happen but... you know what i think? Sure, flemeth told morrigan what she’s gotta do, but, i doubt morrigan really knew what she’s getting into. I know the kid is a normal kid in the end, but i like to think that at the time, morrigan had no idea whatsoever what is this ritual going to turn up with. First, this this ritual feels like a fanservice. Second, on the matter of dub-con, i’ve seen a lot of people saying that alistair was non-con and morrigan is... a bitch? i thought about it and all i saw was this: your mom, whom you hate and are convinced she’s going to kill you one day, tells you you’re going to have a sex with a guy you don’t know, who hates you, and have his child, and you probably don’t want children, who will definitely be possessed with a god-spirit-thing. So, you got two choices, while you’re traveling with your merry band: you won’t do it or you do it for yourself. So i guess morrigan saw an opportunity and decided to go along with it, but use it against flemeth. Which is a really sad thing bc the moment she decides to have the baby for the power for whatever reason, she is basically becoming flemeth herself (or at least her idea of flemeth: someone who uses children for her own gains instead of loving them). So knowing that, i can’t see morrigan being a bitch either way for deciding to take the ritual. She definitely doesn’t like alistair after all, and she’s becoming the person she hates the most + she acts like she doesn’t care about anything, but she also wants to save the warden. So yeah, i definitely went overboard with this, but i don’t see morrigan enjoying the ritual.
I do wonder what she’s planning to do with the demon baby tho. or how terrible is she at raising a baby. I mean, her tolerance and patience levels are really low. I also wonder whether she’s right to be wary of flemeth or is she only paranoid. Flemeth seems like much wiser and sees morrigan as a kid with her paranoia. She pretty much dominates. I would love both morrigan being totally off the track with her suspicious about flemeth and her being right to be wary of flemeth.
So yeah, that was a huge ramble. If you made it this far then i bow to you. Idk where i was going with this... i just wanted to get out my thoughts and have it in one place. I probably said bunch of things wrong and misinterpreted the characters, made typos, forgot to say bunch of other things so, sorry for that. i’m a newb. But i loved it! It made me go into fantasy mood.

Sometimes I do be waking up like this if I may say so myself
63. You got offered a job to do something you love, but the pay is one of the worst out there. Do you take it?
If it’s not a livable wage then obviously no. But if it’s a livable wage that doesn’t leave me with extra money, then yeah doing what I love is worth the sacrifice.

Tell them I don’t like them. I’m all about being direct.
70. Which do you think is worse: Failure, or never trying at all?
Never trying. Nothing wrong with trying and failing, everything wrong with being too lazy to even try.

The thing is society dosen't really care for men and even many me don't seem to care for men, it's like both men and women never care about men's problems
(6-20-20) You both like Feminism.
You: hiyo
Stranger: Hi
You: what's on your mind?
Stranger: Many things.
You: mhm, anything that you want to talk about?
Stranger: Yours?
You: religion
You: my last conversation was about religion
Stranger: The feminist cult religion?
You: nope, I was on the religion tag
Stranger: Okay.
Stranger: I'm so not religious lol
You: is there a word for anti-feminist?
You: I'm not religious either
Stranger: There is, it is anti-feminist.
Stranger: That's it lol
You: it's a dull word
Stranger: Or anti-feminism.
You: so you are anti-feminism?
Stranger: I don't know but i don't support feminism and i hate most feminiets, the majority of feminists are scum and extremists.
You: mhm I support feminism
Stranger: Well good for you at least you know what you want.
You: mhm and you don't know what you want?
Stranger: I do but i cannot get it.
You: oh what exactly do you want?
Stranger: I want a boyfriend. I am gay.
You: ahh gl with that
Stranger: Gl?
You: good luck
You: where are you from?
Stranger: So do you fund feminists groups?
Stranger: America
You: mhm I donated once to the HRC
You: which supports both lgbt and feminism
Stranger: What's hrc?
You: human rights campaign
Stranger: Ohh
You: I donated 20 dollars to them and then they didn't stop calling me
Stranger: You donated to help what?
Stranger: Why didnt they stop calling you?
You: well if you donate once you're listed as a potential donor
You: so then they keep calling you hoping you'll donate again
Stranger: Yikes!
Stranger: So what did you do?
You: I think it's kind of common
You: I just said I wasn't going to donate
Stranger: What do they use your money for?
You: it's like your typical phone canvasing
You: colleges and univesities do that too
Stranger: I see.
You: they're an advocacy and lobbying group
You: so I think you'd probably dislike them
Stranger: What do they advocate for?
Stranger: It's okay, we're just having a convo.
You: oh that lobby for the passage of pro-lgbt bills in congress
You: *they lobby
Stranger: Are you from america?
You: yes
You: like big industries like guns and pharma all have lobbies in congress -- which means they spend millions to convince politicians to vote a certain way
You: for like other things, the money that goes to lobbying comes from ordinary ppl
Stranger: What's your opinion on metoo and the believeallwomen hashtag?
You: mhmm
Stranger: I mean woudn't you say metoo is toxic?
You: yeah I would say there are circumstances that it is kinda toxic
You: but I think it's important to speak out if you get sexually harrassed
You: there's a long history in the us of women staying silent
Stranger: I do and i would to but that does not justify accusing someone of rape when they did not do it.
Stranger: 2 wrongs don't make a right.
You: mhm, what percentage of people #metoo-ing do you think are lying?
Stranger: I'm saying we shoudn't believe all women cause the stats say 2% to 10% of women lie about rape.
Stranger: I can't even imagine how many more men might have been falsely imori
Stranger: Imprisoned for something they never did.
You: sure, although I think it's good that these 90-98% of women who aren't lying are speaking up now
You: a majority of rape cases are dismissed
You: overwhelming majority
Stranger: I'm not saying they shoudn't cause they should but we need solid evidence before accusing someone of being a rapist
You: sure
You: although I think everyone should have the right to speak their story
Stranger: If anyone tries to rape me of course i would speak up in a heartbeat.
You: I think some companies may overreact in some circumstances to firing someone who get's #metoo'd
You: but I think people should be able to speak up and say it happened
Stranger: Because of false accusations men have killed themeselves and entered years in prison.
You: I mean the imprisonment thing I think that's just not true
You: so few accusations ever lead to prison time
You: I think you could say many men have lost their jobs
Stranger: Are you sure?
You: yup, I'm sure
Stranger: There is news on it.
Stranger: Men have told their stories.
Stranger: Search on youtube
You: yeah, but if they're convicted by a trial and jury, that legitimately means there was like evidence
You: like a dna test or sperm or things like that
You: us courts do not convict without evidence
Stranger: I dont know about that i mean people always see to believe women even without evidence
You: mhm, but the legal system hasn't changed in the US at all
You: I think more ppl are concerned about their employers believe claims and getting fired from their jobs
Stranger: I heard stories where men spent many years for a rape they did not do
You: yes, but you can't get convicted unless there is some evidence that convinces the jury
You: sometimes there can be bad evidence though
You: but it's the same thing of ppl going to prison for murder they didn't commit
You: a rape charge is very serious in the US, and you can't get convicted without serious evidence
Stranger: The jury can just call anything evidence whether it is real or not.
You: mhm idk, it can be sometimes hard to argue dna tests and stuff like that
Stranger: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DO5yrFOX5vh0&ved=2ahUKEwjuhr7l15HqAhWs63MBHVavCq8Qo7QBMAN6BAgCEAE&usg=AOvVaw2Nj1O1PtJHVUDh-T9RW6Bq
Stranger: Maybe you should watch this video, of you want to that is.
You: but again, a lot of ppl support abolishing the death penalty, because there are times when the justice system convicts the wrong ppl
You: but this isn't a problem seen just in rape cases in general
You: it happens with murder convictions and other crimes
You: rape doesn't get special treatment in us courts
Stranger: But why are there so many men in prison for a rape they did not commit then?
You: mhm..... idk, you will have to look up statistics for that
Stranger: Okau
Stranger: Okay
Stranger: Are you like a liberal btw?
You: yup
Stranger: A hillary supporter?
You: lol hillary isn't running
Stranger: I know but you voted for her?
You: versus trump lol?
You: of course
Stranger: Is it true that all feminists believe men have it much easier than women?
Stranger: I just don't see how anyone could think that.
You: well I don't really think that's the case
You: I think each gender has its problems
Stranger: I sometimes feel ny life would be easier if i was a woman.
You: mhm how so?
Stranger: Well i feel like i woudn't be told to man up
You: right
Stranger: People would be more concerned about my mental help
Stranger: I think people woudn't be so hard on me
You: mhm I think it's bad that you had to go through all those things
Stranger: I always felt like the female gender is the privileged gender.
You: idk I think for me it's hard to say one gender is more "privileged" than the other
You: but for me, I think about women who can't get a promotion because her boss thinks she will get pregnant
Stranger: You're entitled to your opinion, i am not trying to change your mind. Just sharing my views.
You: mhm totally
You: you are too
You: so I think there are challenges in different areas
You: and I think society should work together to improve issues experienced by both genders
Stranger: The thing is society dosen't really care for men and even many me don't seem to care for men, it's like both men and women never care about men's problems
Stranger: The suicide rate of men is so high and that upsets me everyday.
You: I think society should care for men, and we should change culture so that society does
Stranger: People still believe me cannot get raped.
You: a lot of ppl tell me that feminists want to "emasculate" men when we say that we should encourage it so that it's more acceptable for men to talk about their feelings
You: and express feelings and talk about their emotions
Stranger: If a woman rapes a man then people think it's not possible and that pisses me off.
You: yeah rape can happen to anybody
You: you were raped? :c
Stranger: No but i am worried about the men who did get raped.
You: mhm
Stranger: I just want to prevent men from getting raped.
You: rape is bad, and I think it's important to look at what we can do to improve it
Stranger: Men are usually less likely to speak up if they are being raped or sexually assaulted.
You: right
You: I think men should speak up
You: or I think we should make the culture acceptable for that
Stranger: I want them to but society also needs to advocate for them.
You: mhm, yup
You: sexual violence hurts everybody involved
Stranger: I know.
You: but yeah, if it's important to you, have you thought about getting involved?
Stranger: I dont know how to
Stranger: Maybe i should join the mens rights
You: well there are rape crisis hotlines for women, maybe you can find one for men?
You: or start one for men?
Stranger: How much would that even cost?
You: most of them are run by volunteers
You: it's basically a phone number
You: and you organize a group of ppl to pick up the phone
Stranger: What is the phone number?
You: I think it depends on the area you're from
Stranger: Oh okay maybe i will try to find out
You: the trevorproject is the lgbt suicide hotline
You: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/
You: you can get trained to volunteer for them and answer the phone
Stranger: So anyways are you married?
You: nope
Stranger: Oh okay
Stranger: How old are you?
You: 26 you?
Stranger: I probably will never get married..
Stranger: 23
You: mhm why not?
Stranger: Well i am gay so i dont think i can get married lol
You: are in the US?
You: it's legal in a bunch of states now
You: supreme court also ruled on anti-discrimination too
Stranger: Not that marriage in essential anyways especially if we consider.how many people get divorced after marriage.
You: mhm if you don't want to get married I can understand that oo
Stranger: I mean marriage was always between a man and a woman so i don't know if.it is really marriage.
You: are you from a conservative state?
Stranger: I mean are there any religions who have same sex marriage?
You: idk, I'm not religious, so for me marriage is a secular union
Stranger: I am not either but marriage was created by religious people.
Stranger: Even though i am not religious i believe in a spiritual world, don't laugh lol
You: no it's fine, I understand
Stranger: Do you believe in the supernatural?
You: I think in a lot of the non-religious countries, or atheist countries, marriage still happens. Maybe the meaning has changed
You: not really
Stranger: Oh okay. So you believe in science only? I believe in both science and the supernatural
You: mhm I guess you could say I lean more towards science
You: maybe I believe in a soul, idk
Stranger: Ok
Stranger: Oh ya do you want to talk about abortion?
You: sure haha ^^
You: do you have strong feelings?
Stranger: Like what strong feelings?
You: some people have very strong opinions about abortion
Stranger: Ya i kinda do
Stranger: Why?
You: pro-life?
You: no just curious, mine are less strong
Stranger: Well i don't join groups so no but i don't like killing a fetus either
You: mhm
You: is there a particular point in pregnancy that you think abortion should be illegal?
Stranger: A fetus is still the child of that mother and father.
Stranger: I think abortion always be illegal unless maybe there are a few exceptions like if the mother will ide
Stranger: *die*
You: have you ever heard of plan b?
You: the birth control pill?
Stranger: No i have not
You: it's the day after pill
You: technically you can think of that as a kind of abortion too
You: since you're aborting the day after
You: sex
Stranger: I dont know about those birth control thingies
Stranger: I dont have a lot of knowledge on many things
You: oh
Stranger: Lol
You: it takes a long time for the fetus to form
You: many states have laws on what point it should be illegal to abort
You: because early on it's like microscopic
Stranger: I really need someone to teach me things i want to learn
Stranger: I think if the sperm meets the ovum and becomes one then isn't that already a life?
You: it depends on how you see it essentially
Stranger: Do you support abortion?
You: yup, up to a limit
Stranger: If i was a woman i would never abort my baby.
You: mhm I don't think I would abort either
You: but I think it's important to have a right to choose to extent
You: having a baby is a life-changing event
Stranger: I believe abortion is murder, even in the early stages i would never abort my baby.
You: mhm
You: I was talking about weeks because at certain weeks the fetus is at a different size
You: like by week 6 it's like the size of a grain of rice
Stranger: I know it is a life changing event but murder is never the answer
Stranger: So you are counting the value of your child by it's size? :(
Stranger: I a
You: mhm well, I think there's a certain point when the fetus develops a heart or a brain
You: and takes its first heartbeat
You: I think for me, before it has developed to that point
You: I mean, in a way, every sperm cell has the potential to become a baby
You: and same with every egg in menstruation
You: so for me internally, I guess we all have a point when we consider life to have started
Stranger: But i dont think sperm is the same thing as a embryo or fetus
You: mhm but the day after fertilization, it's basically just an egg with extra dna
You: from the sperm
Stranger: Are we all a sperm and a ovum according to science?
Stranger: I am curious.
You: mhm in a sense, yeah
You: there's no brain
You: so it's not thinking
Stranger: So you and i are sperms and ovums?
You: well I mean, we've grown a lot
You: I think it's unethical to kill a fetus with a beating heart and brain
Stranger: That's weird cause i never felt like a sperm and ovum
You: because I think at a certain point life has started
You: and I believe the baby has started to feel things
You: lol you wouldn't remember being a zygote (the sperm+ovum)
Stranger: What stage at birth do you think the soul enters the body.
You: mhm somewhere in between heartbeating and having a brain I think
Stranger: I know but it is hard to imagine i was ever a sperm and ovum.
You: yeah but we all started that way
Stranger: What if it was even before that? Then it would be murder :(
Stranger: But it is so weird to think of it
You: I mean, like when ppl have sex there's millions of sperm
You: if it was a different one that fertilized the egg
You: in a sense you could be someone else
You: or when a guy masturbates, those are all potential babies
Stranger: Ya but without the ovum there is no baby
Stranger: And without the sperm there is also no baby
Stranger: So we are 2 parts merged into one? That is creepy
You: lol is it?
You: I guess it's just nature
Stranger: So i am 2 beings in 1?
You: mhm you are you
You: you know another weird thing?
You: so our skin is constantly dying
Stranger: What?
You: like we shed
You: dead skin
Stranger: Ya i know that
You: how long do you think it takes before all of our skin is replaced?
Stranger: Maybe a few years?
You: yeah idk
You: sometimes I think its weird that our body now is totally different from our body a couple years ago
You: like not even the same cells
Stranger: But then why do i still have my scars?
Stranger: Why didn't my scars go away?
You: scars are like dead tissue
You: so when your skin grows, it grows around them
Stranger: Oh. Well that upsetting that they wont go away anytime soon
Stranger: I just thought since scars that arent so deep should go away since they are on the surface of my skin
You: mhm yeah idk
You: how did you get them?
Stranger: I got scratched my sharp things i guesd?
You: oh
Stranger: But some of them are not really that deep at all
Stranger: Yet the marks are still on my fingers
You: mhm
Stranger: What is mhm?
You: oh, it's just a sound of agreeing
Stranger: Are you planing to get married?
You: maybe
You: I think I will probably get going
You: it was nice talking to you
Stranger: Ok
You: bye, I wish for the best
Stranger: Where will you be going?
You: hm? maybe clean a little
Stranger: Ok bye
You: bye
You have disconnected.

How I left Islam via /r/atheism
Submitted May 12, 2019 at 06:24PM by Alicization789 (Via reddit http://bit.ly/2VuspUy) How I left Islam
Leaving Islam was a really hard and long process for me, just like it was for everyone else. If you read the title again, I wrote 'How I left Islam', because it was not really that much of a choice on my side, but it's because from my own experience, I couldn't believe anymore.
I'm a 17-year-old guy living in Europe. Although I was born in a European country and am currently living in it, I lived in my parents' Arab conservative and religious country for a fair amount of time, where I was taught about religion at school.
Since I was a child, I have always been a quiet, respectful and disciplined kid. I'm also kind of an introvert as well. I always obeyed my parents and rarely lied to them, even if I do lie, it's nothing really, but I still feel guilty for it.
My parents aren't really that religious and are kinda chill, specially to me since I'm a male. But they are still strict regarding other aspects that are not really connected to religion. My father prays always, and lately he became more religious and started praying in the mosque more often although we live in Europe, which is really rare. My mom rarely prays, even in Ramadan, I only see her praying Maghreb, and for the rest of the year I doubt she prays anything. Fasting is something our whole family does, except for my 13-year-old sister, who luckily is not forced to pray or wear hijab, but my parents tell her sometimes that she has to do these things when she gets older.
For myself, I have always been religious. Being the most religious person in the home when I was 14-16 means also being religious more than the average of Muslims. I prayed everyday, I prayed fajr (dawn) for most of the days, sometimes I prayed nawafel (extra prayers), and I read Qur'an sometimes, like reading alkahf (the cave) every friday, reading almulk everyday before sleeping, doing du'aa almost at everything, when I wake up, go to sleep, go out of the house, even sometimes when I was changing my clothes I was doing some kind of duaa so Jinn leave my clothes alone. I was also aware of music & arts being haram, which led me to ripping off my drawings and throwing them away. I even was telling people I know that music is haram, which also made me try to avoid music as much as possible. I noticed my homosexuality when I was around 15-16 but I didn't care much about it, I believed that praying, fasting and making du'aa will make it go and I just needed time for it to be away, so it wasn't really a problem since my faith in Allah was very very strong that I wasn't afraid of anything, sometimes I was even ready to die. Praying everyday for years, making du'aa that I don't die unless I'm Muslim, that I stay Muslim forever, that Allah strengthens my faith...etc. Sometimes... I felt like the happiest guy ever just for being Muslim, and if anything happens I just blame it on myself and on my lack of faith.
I am kind of a curious person to be honest, I always had a lot of questions in my head, but those questions regarding religion, hell, they were so scary. I would feel guilty for just thinking about them. My faith in Allah was always strong, but with the time I became less religious, however I still managed to maintain my prayers while trying to wake up for fajr everyday.
About 3-4 months ago I realized that being gay is something in me that cannot be cured by fasting and praying, sure I blamed it on myself again for my lack of faith. I tried thinking that I wasn't praying good enough or I wasn't making enough du'aa and that's why I'm still gay. At the beginning of February I began losing hope and started trying to accept myself. I spent a lot of time reading about being gay in Islam, and of course I knew about the death penalty and how much Allah hates gays and about the story of sodom and gomorrah (Lut's story) and how Allah destroyed them for being gay. That made me depressed and suicidal. Throughout February, I was depressed and thinking about suicide almost everyday, sometimes, by using mental gymnastics I managed to make myself feel better and believe that being LGBT is totally fine in Islam because Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance... bla bla bla. My du'aa and prayers did not help me at that phase, where I was crying almost everyday wishing to die as soon as possible, wishing that I wasn't even born, wishing to trade my life with someone else because I got so fucking tired of this whole thing.
Luckily, living in a tolerant country that even allows gay marriage, made it better somehow. I had a close friend and a teacher who are really supportive to me. Being open to them was very hard since the Arab culture and Islam were the source of that depression, and I knew that my problem was with the culture and the religion. Yeah I know it sucks being gay even in the most tolerant country but the biggest source of all the depression was the backwards culture and religion.
About a month and a half passed, from the middle to the end of march I started doubting Islam. How come, I suffer so much while having so much faith? while being a very good Muslim? why didn't my faith help me? why did my 'peaceful and lovely' religion made it only worse?
These are not the reasons why I left Islam, because they were emotional so I didn't take them that seriously. However, they are the reasons that made me start doubting Islam and questioning it. I started asking a lot of questions, like how can predestination and free will coexist? why isn't Islam the biggest religion if it's the absolute truth? why did god create some people ONLY to send them to hell? why would god allow other religions to exist in such a big scale? isn't it unfair if god sends non-Muslims who were born into other religions to hell forever? just because of their parents? why would god allow his word to be corrupted, that makes it necessary for him to send Muhammad?... and more questions.
I didn't find any convincing answer for all my questions. At that time, I was visiting progressive_Islam, and somehow got exposed to this sub-reddit, ex-Muslims. When I used to be Muslim, I thought that people only leave Islam because they want to do haram things. I thought Islam was perfect, and after being a Muslim, you can never change.
Slowly, I got addicted to visiting this sub-reddit, exposed to the 'dark side' of Islam after being taught only about the bright side of it and all the good things that Muhammad and the Sahabah did. I also, after gathering my strength tried looking at errors in the Qur'an and Hadith and somehow started watching Apostate Prophet and similar anti-Islam youtubers. At that time, I had to use mental gymnastics to justify everything. Blaming all problems on the culture not the religion, 'strike them' means leave them and not literally hitting them (LOL), Islam is a tolerant and peaceful religion, these are lying Islamophobes, apostates should be killed because after being exposed to the 'light' of Islam they can't just simply leave it. Then I tried watching Zakir Naik and other similar guys in order to try and restore my faith. Even in my prayers, I was praying for god to put me on the right path because I was scared.
People like Zakir Naik didn't restore my faith, they made it even worse. After getting tired of all the mental gymnastics and the cognitive dissonance to justify all the stupid things in Islam, I decided to stop praying. It was hard, but I thought myself, if I stop praying, then Allah will make me depressed and get back to Islam. It was like an experience actually. I begged Allah to show me signs that I cannot deny but surprise, he showed me NOTHING.
I stopped praying and believing, which made me feel good, free, more accepting of myself and not depressed just like I was when I used to believe. That was scary too because I thought not praying will make me depressed..etc. Few days later, I lost my wallet. I had money and a lot of valued things in it, I had the urge to pray and make du'aa for it to be back but I refused and did my best not to do that, instead I asked around at school and started looking for it. I then 'challenged god' and asked him 'If that certain teacher on Wednesday gets me my wallet back, I'm gonna believe in you again'. Wednesday came and passed, got nothing. A day later, I got my wallet back from the school, without praying or doing any stuff. Too bad for Allah, he missed his opportunity to get me back.
Ramadan was coming, and I thought about giving Islam a last chance and that I will be fasting this year and decide after that. But I couldn't. With time I was watching and reading more and more things that made me lose ALL my faith.
Now we are in Ramadan, I'm not fasting and I'm not afraid of hell :) . After forcing myself to believe, I just got tired from all the mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance and decided to be honest to myself-- I don't believe in Islam anymore. I'm still closeted and faking fasting in front of my family, but I'm honest about my religious views at school. I even criticize Islam in front of other Muslim students, of course they will tell me ask a scholars and all that shit because western Muslims barely know anything about the religion. It has been about a month and a half since I stopped believing and my life is still halal, no pork, no Alcohol and still a virgin.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far, and stay away from Islam. :) I left out some details, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Hello Lovely Ladies! I am so far behind on all my blogs and life in general! I am now JUST getting a chance to write my first ever review for Wantable Style Edit! I decided to try this box along with Stitch Fix and Trendsend to see which one would fit best with my personal style and budget.
In my January Wantable Style Edit I received seven items total including a blazer, two dresses, two top, a pencil skirt, and a pair of jeans. I love that Wantable Style Edit send closet staples and a variety of items for you to try. All items also went very well together! The only downfall is shoes are currently not available yet.
Wantable Style Edit is a personal styling subscription that is very similar to Stitch Fix
Here the rundown on how it works:
Wantable Style Edit lets you try the items personalize and curated just for you. You get 5 or more pieces picked for you by your stylist and you can keep them for up to 5 days to try with your own clothes.
The styling fee is $20 and fully credited towards your purchases. You can keep or send back any or all of the pieces with the enclosed prepaid envelope. If you keep 5 or more items you get 20% off.
Although Style Edit is a subscription service, you can skip a month or months anytime. Essentially, you have the option to try a single box this way.
Currently Style Edit is only available to 50 US States.
You’re only billed for what you keep, and Wantable Style Edit includes a return label to make it easy and convenient.
Most items range from anywhere between 50-100 but it is base on your budget preference. Always the frugal shopper I set my budget to as low as possible for each category.
Each Wantable Style Edit Box comes with Price Inventory and personal note from your Stylist!
So lets get to the fun stuff the clothes! What did I keep and what did I send back!
#Item 1: Viggos Tomboy Thompson Boyfriend Jeans -Cost to Keep $74.00
These jeans where the first item I pulled out of the box! I immediately fell in love with them! I am really picky about jeans and to be honest I am a little bit of a brand snob! ( 7 for all mankind, True Religion, and Paige Jeans are some of my favorite brands). So when I saw these Viggos I was super excited. I am familiar with the brand (faithful Nordstrom shopper) and already had a couple of pairs. I needed a new pair of boyfriend jeans. This pair was perfect they were just the right amount of boyfriend that a single feisty girl like myself needs! Unfortunately this pair was one size to small. ( My fault I guess I thought my diet of wine and pizza was working LOL).
Verdict: Returned but would of kept if they had been the right size. I will probably requested them again this month in the correct size.
Item #2: Ivette Embroidered Crepe Blazer -cost to keep 75.o0
This blazer was a vast improvement over the one sent in my January 2017 Stitch Fix . The Ivette blazer is an updated version of a classic blazer, featuring embroidered details. When I first pulled this item out of this month Wantable Style Edit I was somewhat curious about the piece. It caught my eye and fit into my “Bad Mom anti PTA” look that I tend to go for. Unfortunately the Ivette blazer was more Micheal Jackson and with the shoulder pads it was a little too much. I couldn’t see myself wearing this unless I planned on moon walking into my next play date. I am sure it would look great on someone else but it was not for me. The quality was great and match the price point. The fit was great too. Not too boxy and had a tailored look!
Verdict: Returned. Just wasn’t for me !
Item #3: Beach Lunch Lounge Sasha Lake Top- Cost to keep $68.00
This crisp and classic blue dobby button down gets an update with fun red stitching at the button holes. I absolutely adore this shirt, great fit, and is so versatile. I have paired this with casual khaki for work and love the lightweight feel, great for a warm spring day or brunching with the ladies in your cut off jean shorts.
Verdict: Kept. NO BRAINER! One of my new favorite pieces
Item #4 : KLD Signature Woven Shell with Cutout. -Cost to keep 68.00
This top was not something I hated or loved at first glance. My overall impression was that it was something that I would not have picked for myself but maybe it would look okay on me! And guess what it did look okay! This top is perfect for a night on the town with the girls. The cut out detail in the front adds a little flirtation, especially when paired with your favorite pair of skinnies and booties. But in the end the price was a little to steep for something so basic and that I did not love completely. If the price has been a little lower under 40 dollars I would of been able to justified the purchase.
Verdict: Return- only because of price.
Item #5: BCBGeneration -Color Blocked Long Sleeve Dress – Cost to keep $88
I loved this dress when I first pulled it out! It was so cute and totally was my style ( anything 70’s I am all about!) This dress came with a small make up stain on it and the fit was not flattering to my figure. Normally shift dresses look great on me but this one was a tad long for my 5’1 frame. I felt like the price was good for quality and brand.
Verdict: Returned.
Item #6: Entro Kayla Dress with bell-shaped sleeves-Cost to keep $39.99
At first glance I was all about this dress. I love the bell shape sleeve and the whole seventies look of the shift dress. I pictured myself wearing this dress with tall boots and a great scarf. The material was just okay but at the 39.99 price point I didn’t have high expectation. Once I tried on the dress I was not in love or like with it. I really tried to make myself like it but even at the lower price point I did not see myself wearing this often. But mainly I saw my mom making fun of me if I ever wore it around her. So I decided even at that price point to send it back.
Verdict: Returned. Just wasn’t flattering on myself.
Last item: DEX Zipper Pencil Skirt-Cost to keep $58.00
This skirt was a miss! Period. It was a sweater material and was very unflattering. I hated it immediately. I have nothing nice to say about this skirt and the southern belle in me is telling me to keep my month shut! This was not anything I would pick for myself or even my worst frenemy!
Verdict: Returned and not soon enough. lol..
So overall I enjoyed my first Wantable Style Edit! I thought they did a good job! And I can’t wait to see what they will send out next!
Here is a link to their website in case you are interest in giving them a try!

17 year old british ex-muslim. Here are my reasons for leaving. Potential ex muslims will read for a eureka moment :) via /r/atheism
Submitted June 27, 2017 at 03:57AM by boredashellitsinsane (Via reddit http://ift.tt/2sgpR8V) 17 year old british ex-muslim. Here are my reasons for leaving. Potential ex muslims will read for a eureka moment :)
I’m 17 years old, live in the uk. Born into a muslim family. Thanks to the help of relatives and various others i was able to leave and currently live away from my parents. It’s a crazy world lol
Alright so below is a combination of every possible reason you can think for leaving Islam. Every one of these points combined together to result in my removal from the religion. I hope by this some potentially shaky muslims who read this will wake up, and realise that their doubt is founded upon good reason and that they have every reason to keep looking for the right thing to do. Ex-Muslims are not idiots who know fuck all about their religion. In fact they know so much they begin to hate it. It's often people that start studying the religion seriously having had an open mind prior to doing so that apostate. They realise that shit honestly does not make sense, and regardless of how you look it, continuously explaining stuff away with "god willed it, that's how it is" gets a bit tiring mentally. We are humans. We have reason and we cannot live comfortably knowing that we are hiding things from ourselves in order to remain 'stable'.
Not all of this is my own content. Much was collected from answers around Quora but were written better than I could have so I included them. I did have my own complete stuff written painstakingly by myself. which i posted on Quora. Unfortunately I wasn't anonymous and it went viral and that fucked me over in the real world. Now that I'm away from that shit I thought I'd post again.
why does Allah always threaten us and intimidate us into loving him?
Every Muslim on this planet has one thing in common, the Holy Quran. Regardless of different sects and books of hadith, everyone believes Quran to be the perfect word of God. So after having concerns with Islam in general, I analyzed the Holy Quran. The following are some of my major objections derived from the Quran that made me leave my faith.
Islamic Heaven
The image of heaven is painted like it's a fantasy of a 6th century arab; Lavish silk clothing, jewelery, young boys circulating wine, full breasted, large beautiful eyed virgins, shades of palm and banana tress, rivers of honey and milk, meat of the fowl etc. That heaven is not for anyone else or for all times. And it's not intended to be a metaphor. (the verses are spread out in the Quran).
Murdering a child and Moses
In an event, a man kills a child in front of Moses. Upon inquiring,Moses is told that the child would have grown up to be a non believer and that would burden his Muslim parents (verse 18:74- verse18-82). Implying it's ok to murder a child because he may not grow up to be a Muslim.
Miracles
The many fables about miracles. Moon splitting in two, fish swallowing a prophet, miracles of Moses and Jesus etc. People who wrote the book didn't believe them to be metaphors. They believe it literally happened. How's that any different from myths found in other religions?
Adam and Eve
The story of Adam and Eve as the initiation of creation on earth. It doesn't relate with evolution, which makes sense. There are many holes in the story. Are we then the product of incest? One couple can't populate the earth. Why would God create his own game set the rules, watch as Satan tells them about the tree and then freaks out afterwards. Unless that too is somehow a metaphor.
6 days of Creation
At one point it states , God says be and it happens. But then He needs 6 days to create the universe. Theists say, the time is different for us. For us it's 6 days, for Him it's a moment. But that's only speculation and an excuse for this inconsistency. (verses : 32:4, 50:38, 7:54, 57:4, 25:59)
Allah controls everything
Allah chooses not to interfere, hence our free will. But Quran has inconsistencies on the matter. At several points it says Allah guides those whom He wills, He controls who becomes a Muslim. If I'm searching for Him and He decides that He doesn't want me as a Muslim, i can't do anything about it. Also He says that family and children are less important than him, which doesn't sit will with me. A religious person can leave his family if God tells them too, can murder his child, can do anything if God tells them to. And how does one know that the voices or dreams they're having are a mere product of their mind and not some universal celestial being sending vague signals?
Expressing loudly is frowned upon
Verse 31:19 indicates that if you speak or laugh loudly you sound like a donkey. This expression, one would expect from a child, not from an All knowing God. He created the donkey to be ridiculed? And to use this analogy, a celestial being can do better.
Christians and Jews
Earlier on Quran says they are both allies, people of the book. When they don't acknowledge the prophet or Islam and keep their faith, Quran curses them. The Jews were cursed first, when their relationship got bitter with Muslims, during the battle of trench. Quran said Christians are nice as they have monks and priests who are truthful. Then they were cursed too. It said not to take either of them as allies and may Allah destroy them. And then Jews are prohibited fat of animals. This sounds more like the intentions of the prophet rather than inconsistent commands of Allah. But you can marry their women to spread Islam, in hopes that they'd convert. (verses : 5:51, 5:82, 9:30, 6:146)
Context based signs
Allah talks about signs in the universe for His existence. But all these signs were observable in the 6th century desert. Ships, seas, childbirth, moon, sky without pillars like a plane, rain, sun, palm trees, pomegranates, grapevines, creation from sperm, rivers, earth laid out, mountains, having sons as wealth, hunting and tents from hides etc. Nothing even outside of the context. Elm and oak trees provide a greater shade than palm trees. They're never mentioned. The evidence of signs is not convincing to a person looking for God in modern times.
Battles
Violent verses during battles aren't really objectionable. Except a few. For example the verse 8:67 says to not have slaves unless you spread massacre across the land. But the tone of the verses is barbaric. Striking necks, fingertips, slaughter etc. The same message could be delivered in a much better way if the said God is humble, kind and hates unnecessary violence
God, punishments and genocide
One can't really judge God on the scale of human morality. But His kill count is much higher. He admits He kills nations in their sleep at night or noon. He's no divine, humble, mature celestial being. He's jealous and vindictive. He creates pigs and monkeys as symbols of insult and mockery, then turns humans into those animals. He says when you're in power, do not show mercy. But then the prophet showed mercy at conquest of Mecca. Maybe that's another inconsistency. Cursing an ancient Arab like Abu Lahab in the divine Book of guidance seems trivial and petty for a God. He says don't attend the funerals of your non Muslim friends. And there's even a verse (22:15) that says if you don't believe in the prophet, try and hang yourself with a rope from the ceiling and see if that changes anything. That's an All wise God’s message. And He says if you're told to kill yourself for God, that is better for you .Verse 59:5 justifies the cutting down of trees in a desert. It's all a game, He creates and destroys. (verse: 32:26, 5:60, 7:4, 66:9, 111:1, 5:33, 4:65)
Rulings
Marrying your adopted son's wife is totally fine. You can never call him your true son. The person you see as your daughter in law can be your wife. This would only induce feelings of hatred between the son and his father. 100 lashes to a couple who consensually has premarital sex. Why? You don't know them, they're not hurting you, no one's being raped. You barge into their lives, lash them in front of an audience, humiliate them and be pleased with yourself of having done a noble deed. If you want to educate people about sex, it's their parents job. It's their families concern. It's not Allah's concern. It's not your job to lash anyone. Cursing gays when it's not a choice and God made them that way.
Slavery
Yes, Islam liberated slaves of the 6th century. They were treated as daughters, sons, sisters, brothers. They were fed and clothed like their masters. They could demand freedom. But God knows better that in the modern world, good treatment of a slave is no excuse to own a human being. Slavery wasn't banned by Allah like wine or pork was. There was a contract that stated this man or woman is your property. Owning a human being is wrong. If God could add a clear verse about not consuming pork, what prevented him to add a clear verse about not owning human beings? Why leave that to vague examples and Muslims doing mental gymnastics trying to somehow make it sound reasonable?
Sexual slavery being allowed in Islam. Now that is absurd. How can that be allowed in Islam, that would be hypocrisy. So u mean premarital sex is totally a "No-No" but having sex with your slaves, even if they if are married is absolutely fine?
Women
Woman were given many rights and they too were liberated in Islam. But then it stopped. It's clear from reading the Quran that it's from a male's perspective in which woman at times are treated as inferiors. She can't divorce in the same way a man can There has to be two female witnesses for one man, so if one female forgets the other can remind her Marrying any four women and amongst your many many concubines, but women don't have the same choices If a woman is raped and can't produce four witnesses. She might even get punished herself. She wouldn't get justice Verse 24:31 says “…. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment…” Meaning, a woman should not move in a way that reveals her body. It restricts you in illogical ways. You play sports, you're sinning. You can't dance, get excited and express it. One can beat women if she cheats (yes I've heard the miswaq example) the woman can't beat a man.
Outside of the Quran, there are many other problems with the mere idea of God. One look at innocent children dying of horrible diseases, being tortured in pain, may make a logical believer question the idea of a merciful loving God.
Or if one digs deep into history and looks at the religion's role models, they're found to have done some questionable things. They were people of their time. Who did some good and some bad things. Definitely not the perfect examples of character.
And if one does a philosophical analysis of religion. It's about getting rid of your own individuality to serve men in power who claim to talk to God. To obsessively idolize a man, called the perfect human being. If you're born different in this religion, you're labeled a sinner. Organized religion suffocates dreamers and free thinkers. It makes them guilty of their ability to fly and many cut of their wings to fit in. I for one am glad I took the leap of faith away from my indoctrination.
1) According to Quran mountains prevent earthquake or the shaking of the earth. in Sura Al-Anbiyaa (Chapter 21 verse# 31) It says " And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them”
If Mountains are there to stop the earth from shaking, then why do we see so many earthquakes in mountainous regions?. For example, Japan is a mountainous zone but it has 1500 earthquakes every year.'Shaking of the earth' and earth quakes mean the same thing right? Mountains are created because of the movement of tectonic plates. They do not stablize the earth or prevent shaking of the earth. This verse is clearly in error
2) The Quran In Sura Al Mulk (Chapter 67) Ayaat # 5 it says
"And We have adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and we have made such (Lamps as) missiles to drive away Satans, ... "
So the stars were created by Allah as missiles to throw at the devils? In order to not let them eavesdrop on the heavenly council?
The first ayaat says stars are lamps that is fine but lamps (stars) are not thrown at devils
3) Why does the Quran say Allah prevents the sky from falling into the earth? The Holy Quran in Sura Al Hajj ( chapter 22 verse# 65) says
Pickthall:He holdeth back the heaven from falling on the earth unless by His leave. Lo! Allah is, for mankind, Full of Pity, Merciful.
As we know the sky is vast. So how can it fall into the earth? This sounds absurd.
4) According to the Quran honey comes from the body of the bee. In Sura an Nahl An Nahl (chapter 16 verse # 69) says
YUSUFALI: Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men.
A bee makes honey from the collected then chewed up pollen from plants. The bee never actually swallows and or digests the pollen. Honey does not come from the bodyof the bee. The bees chew their nectar through their mouth. After that nectar is dried out in the honeycomb and honey is formed. The verse in Quran is scientifically incorrect.
Homosexual men are to be killed. Homosexual women however, are subject only to lashes.
Wasn’t Quran supposed to be a book that is “The Guidance for All Mankind”? Then why is it written in words so difficult that they are beyond the comprehension of normal people and even majority of the so called scholars. Literally no one understands it properly with everyone having their own interpretation of it’s words.
The Quran assumes a flat earth which has physical places into which the sun sets and rises from. Since the earth is a rotating sphere, the sun does not set in any particular place and you can never travel to "the spot" where the sun sets nor a place where it rises.
Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. - Quran 18:86
Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. - Quran 18:90
We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us. - Quran 50:38
The earth first formed around 9 billion years after the Big Bang. The Quran, however, repeats the prevailing middle eastern myth that the earth and universe were formed in six days.
This minute fact that the prophet had a desire to marry his adopted son's ex wife and suddenly a verse in the quran states that its a command by allah and its perfectly fine to do so. What it seems to me that Mohammed just made up a verse to suit his own desires
There’s a story in the Kuran about a king called Dhul’Qarnain (he of the two horns) who conquered the world of his time from east to west. a devoted king who feared god, was just, and fought Gog and Magog(another Sci-FI version of old aliens) , but it turns out that this was an ancient myth about Alexander the great, who was a polytheist (not monotheist), tyrant, a mass murder, and who loves men in his bed rather than woman (not being homophobic here but just to prove that Mohamed got his fairy tail completely wrong.
The christian king who wanted to destroy the Kaaba, he brought his elephants, he set off from Yemen, crossed the whole Arabian desert, but was defeated in Mecca by firing birds (from Allah). An elephant who needs at least 200 litres of water daily and a 3 tons of herbs/vegetation to eat could survive a journey of nearly a month in one of the driest deserts on earth. Go figure.
Even if warned, disbelievers will disbelieve. Allah has placed seal on their heart and hearing, and they are closed from accepting Allah’s guidance.
Thoughts - Really, this is the all merciful, all powerful Allah who prevents people from accepting guidance, brands them as disbelievers and then says its okay to kill them? And if Allah places a seal on the heart of disbelievers, then where is the glory in killing them, or preaching to them in an attempt to convert?
Allah mocks them(the hypocrites) and increases their wrong doings.
Thoughts - If Allah can increase the wrong doings, then why can’t he decrease them? Isn’t he all powerful? He increases the fallacies of the disbelievers, places a seal on their heart, prevents them from accepting guidance, and then throws them to hell fire. Sadist much?
Doubters will go to hell.
Thoughts - Wow, what an way to prevent logical questioning! What kind of power does Allah have if he cant even clear doubts.
Echoes the above sentiment. Basically says that no questioning/curiosity is allowed. Questioners are sinners, disbelievers and will be condemned to hell.
Thoughts - Hello, hell.
There is no compulsion in religion.
Thoughts - Finally! A joke in this book. LOL!!!
And we shall cast terror into the heart of disbelievers.
Thoughts - Why? They have been made disbelievers by the will of Allah. Allah increases their fallacies and throws them into hell. And even then, that much of sadism isn’t enough? Right now, I need to read the “No compulsion in religion” line again. I need a good laugh.
6:14 - Muhammad said that he is the first to be commanded among those who submit themselves to Allah as Muslims.
Thoughts - This screams contradiction and cooked up theories. What was all that stuff about Jesus being sent by Allah and that he had declared that he was a Muslim. This verse contradicts directly with - 5:111, 5:112, 3:67.
Mostly from what I observed that muslims don’t tend to question their own religion which contradicts the basic logical reasoning to everything that’s happening around them and just act blindly to everything that has been proved scientifically.
"Also I think if it happened and there is a GOD out there, he will forgive our disbelieving. If he created our mind to think at everything, so it’s nature to think that religions doesn’t make sense. I don’t believe in him because I’m some bad guy, but because I have no clue of his existence."
People need to open their eyes and see the reality of the hate-obsessed cult that is Islam.
Hoped this helped out some you :)
