Day Six: Traditional Outfit
Paring: SwissNor (Nyo!Switzerland and Norway) (Lara and Lukas)
It’s a wedding~ So there are more characters mentioned: Berwald (Sweden) Egill (Iceland) Mathias (Denmark) Vash (Switzerland) Lichtenstein (Lili) Nyo!Norway (Maja)
Word count: 1346
Picture to reference the bunad that they are wearing
“You’re sure about this, Lara?” Vash had come into the room, and was sitting on one of the lavish velvet chairs, watching Lara as she had some light makeup done. His sister wasn’t one for anything too much, and even now, with getting married, she wasn’t doing more than mascara, light shadow, so light Vash had to squint to see, minimal eye liner, and her lips.
“ ‘m sure.” It was hard to talk when you had people lightly painting your face. Vash made a small clicking noise in the back of his throat.
“Could have done this in Switzerland, Lara.” Vash finally mumbled after a few beats of silence, and Lara had stood, finished with her makeup, and outfit complete as she made her way to her twin, taking his hands.
“I could, yes. You’re not wrong. But would you really have wanted that? Lukas and I can do something small and private back in Switzerland, or some kind of a renewal.” She squeezed his hands. “But it means a lot to me, and to Lukas, that we do it here.” She leaned in, pressing her lips to his cheek. “I love you, are you ready?”
Stepping out of the room, she made her way to Lukas, who was also in a bunad. Lara’s needing to be custom made since she wasn’t Norwegian, but she and Lukas preferring they wore what was traditional for his people. While she’d been nervous when she first moved to step out of the room, it all faded when she saw Lukas standing there. She made her way to him, which was hard to see with vision blurry from tears, until she was next to him.
“You look amazing,” He whispered softly, leaning in a bit so he was sure that she was able to hear him.
“Nowhere near as amazing as you.” She exhaled a bit forcibly, trying to calm down the tears that were threatening to spill onto her cheeks. “Our bosses seem to be alright with this.”
“Were you going to let them stop us?”
She shook her head no, chuckling. “Nein, but Vash might pop a blood vessel because I insisted upon it being in Norway.”
“…Please tell me you’re not going to ask him for permission.”
That made Lukas laugh hard enough that he had to cover his mouth. “I’m not, no. Pretty sure you’d have killed me if that was the case. We can leave some traditions in the past, but I guess he might have liked the beer..”
“Yes, well, I feel like we’re back in the times with this,” She twirled in the bunad a bit, the little bangles on the crown on her head tinkling.
“Lara,” He gave her hand a squeeze, “are you ready?”
It took her a moment, but she did nod her head.
With the raise and then drop of his hand, someone sounded the lur, and he kept his hand in hers as they started to walk down the path.
Behind them were their bosses, and then their siblings. While there were a few nations who also could have followed, they let the representations of Lichtenstein, their direct siblings, and the representations of Iceland be direct followers.
Deciding on their dog carrying the rings, and another one of their dogs holding a basket of flowers in her mouth, which she promptly dropped on the floor before chasing after Lara and Lukas.
“We should have trained Astrid better,” She chuckled as the small dog trotted along next to them, until they made their way to the fjord. While the wedding would traditionally be in a church, Lukas had wanted to be outdoors, allowing for the many magical beings of Norway to be present.
Vows were always complicated for nations, but Lukas was the one who was going to go first.
“Lara, we’ve existed for many lifetimes, seen many people come and go. I know that I don’t want to go another lifetime without you by my side. Through the complicated, the intense, and feelings of being alone, you’ve been by my side. Fate might have brought us together, but what we’ve built is our own. I promise to never leave you, always fight beside and never against, (thank the Gods for Swiss neutrality), and support you. As a best friend, as a partner, as your husband.”
Lara held out her hand, trembling a bit, allowing him to slip a ring onto her finger.
“Lukas, it’s very easy to feel alone when life moves so much faster for humans. But, you’ve come into my life and chosen not to leave. We’ve protected the same ideals as nations, but also as ourselves. You make every day an adventure, you never fail to bring a smile to my face. You don’t back down from a challenge, bridge the myths with reality, and care more deeply for me than anyone else ever has. I know that I’d never abandon you, and that with you and I together nothing can come between us. As your best friend, as your partner, as your wife, I am yours, both in mind, and in body.”
And Lukas the same, she didn’t anticipate he’d have a slight tremor, but it was there even as she slipped the ring onto his finger.
She didn’t hear anything else, not the “you may kiss,” or the cheering of their friends and family, she was too focused on the feel of his arms around her waist, pulling her in as he pressed his lips to hers firmly. One of Lara’s arms wrapped around his neck, the other moving up so her hand could secure the crown as he dipped them.
“You know,” she whispered when they’d parted, her hand on his cheek, “I’ve decided I am going to take your last name.”
He almost dropped her at that. “You did? But.. Really? Are you sure?” Lukas’s expression was a happy one, but it was still one of shock. They’d been on the fence about it, but Lara seemed pretty determined.
“Oh yes, I’d rather it be that way, besides, Vash is still Zwingli, and this is more fun, more human.”
It was a blur getting back to the reception, Egill was in a corner, clinging to a glass of some kind of alcohol while he stared in horror at Mathias who was dancing circles around Berwald. Vash was dancing with Lili, which was a bit shocking, due to his general lack of desire to do such things.
“Care to dance?”
“So long as we’re not going to get wacked by any of our more lively loved ones, why not?”
Arms around her easily, Lukas leaned his forehead down to hers. “Well, it’s official, they’re going to have us jumping around on chairs in a bit, answering questions. And you know whoever is the most drunk is going to ask the worst ones.” He shook his head, glancing over to see Mathias swinging Maja who looked like she was going to be sick. “….Right. Yeah, I expect poor questions.” Egill wasn’t doing much better, onto his third glass of what Lukas could now see was wine.
“We can field questions, it’ll be fine.” Lara kissed the tip of his nose. “Truly, Vash might grill us, but oh hey! I hear that the bride gets to pass out cheese and honey, do I get to do that?” Being Swiss, there was no way she was going to let go of this cheese concept.
“Yes, that’s the bride’s cheese. It has honey and nuts, signifies the sweetness of the night only being the beginning.” Lukas should have known, Lara and her cheese loving self was going to want to make sure they did that one. And, of course, he wasn’t going to say no. He liked cheese just as much as the next person.
“Might as well mingle, the sooner we get done with that, the sooner we get to go to our room, no?” He spoke with a wink, leaning in to whisper a few things that were just for her to hear.
