I haven't blogged about it here and I'm not really gonna do it right now but a big scandal right now is a Colombian born US ambassador who turns out to have been a Cuban spy for forty fuckin years and the whole story is just so funny. like, bad, from a national security standpoint, obviously. but also funny.

they got the guy because some dude went on whatsapp pretending to be Cuban intelligence and asked, "are you still a comrade?" and guy here fucking lost his shit.

In one extraordinary passage, Rocha – belying his genteel image among fellow diplomats – espoused raw macho pride in his achievements after his accomplice said the DGI wanted to know if he was still a “compañero” (comrade). “I am angry. I’m pissed off,” he said. “It’s like questioning my manhood … It’s like you want me to drop them … and show you if I still have testicles. I have them. I have them.” (x)

#also funny because my father is a US ambassador and Colombian and overlaps in time so everybody's been like. you know this guy right???#and my dad is like. no???? who the fuck is this guy?#and then it turns out that he doesn't know the guy because he used to hang out with the dude's (now ex) *wife*#so someone reminded him of that and he was like oh yeah her! yeah we had some good times! totally forgot she was married.#10/10 absolutely on brand #imagine spy man just SEETHING somewhere because the only other high ranked Colombian diplomat is some guy taking his wife out and about #“is there no SOLIDARITY? no latino to latino connection?” not when your wife is cool to hang out with no #personal #kind of
