i'd like to add onto this but in the sense of "we're all living in a capitalist society that we are all contributing to by the sole fact that we are living in it. do whatever the fuck you want. be bimbocore. be alpha man as fuck. embrace stereotypes if you want to. they can be hella fun when you're the one owning it. just don't push your weird shit onto other people man. feminism should be about letting people exist. like. just exist. nothing more. in fact that's what all civil rights movements should be about. it should be about letting people exist. because we're all living in a hellhole and it's shitty to actively contribute to that hellhole for other people. just have some whimsy chat. we're on tumblr for crying out loud."
I'm sick of hyperfemininity. I get the backlash to the whole "not like the other girls" thing, but so much of the time it just feels like a way to spin wholehearted and uncritical embracing of consumer culture as "empowering". Maybe you aren't doing it for men, but spending all your time and money on makeup and fashion and other consumer garbage is still wholeheartedly embracing the notion that this is what it is to be a woman. You're still embracing stereotypes invented by the patriarchy and by our capitalist society. Plus, so much of the hyperfeminine bimbocore/barbiecore/whatever discourse feels like they're saying that if you dislike traditionally feminine things it must be because of internalized misogyny, which isn't necessarily the case. You know?
