do you have any tips for incorporating more adjectives/adverbs/more descriptions generally in a fic? or any tricks you use to make them more lively? (love how you write) - I'm trying to write one (I usually write original short stories but not fanfics) and while I'm usually pretty good at it I feel like this time it is a bit void... (also would you be open for beta-ing? or know anyone? it's still far off but I don't want to risk posting w errors, non-native and all)
First of all, thank you for your lovely comment :) please go tell my high school English teacher who nicknamed my writing style “Keelin confetti” in that I throw around adjectives like confetti and make a mess. (Not that I’ve been stewing on that for a decade or anything...). If it doesn’t come naturally to you, I’d just add a descriptive term to any sentence, hell add two, then figure out it if works. Delete it if it doesn’t!
But I will say that that particular style of writing may not suit you as well if you’re used to one way. Some of my absolute favorite fic writers don’t use a lot of adjectives and are generally straight to the point, others write in a very poetic way. It’s all about what feels right to you.
If you want to make things more lively, you can always discuss what the characters are doing or really delve into their inner monologue. There’s always the ‘show, don’t tell’ rule.
Generally speaking, I don’t beta. But I would be happy to look over your fic for general feedback/encouragement! I may not be the best at catching grammar issues, but I can be a pretty decent cheerleader!
Honestly, take everything I say with a grain of salt because I literally just started writing fic less than 6 months ago. I’m still very much learning myself :) and by learning I mean writing a paragraph, then deleting all of it and swearing off making fic forever, at least once a week.
If anyone who’s actually been doing this awhile/ knows what the hell theyre talking about wants to chime in, PLEASE do so!! I know there’s a ton of people with far more knowledge and experience than me
