Darren Criss Says MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Will Be 'A Spectacle and A Half'
Maybe Happy Ending will begin previews on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 and open on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the Belasco Theatre.
Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Darren Criss will return to the stage alongside Helen J Shen in the Broadway premiere of the new musical Maybe Happy Ending. According to the Emmy-winning star, the "wildly original"new musical promises to be "a spectacle and a half.
Recently, Darren stopped by Z100's Morning Zoo in support of the upcoming Elsie Fest, and took a minute to discuss his latest Broadway venture.
"I think people think this is going to be a small, cute little show about robots in the future." Darren said, "This is a balls-to-the-wall spectacle in the way that in the 80s, we had Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera-- these huge, theatrical spectacles that like, when you went to the theatre it was like, 'Whoa, how did they do that?'"
Host E;lvis Duran asked the star if audiences could expect anything akin to the iconic Phantom chandelier as part of the production. Darren replied, "I think there will be something like a chandelier that will be the new version of, 'Oh my God, that's the big thing to see on Broadway.'"
The show features music by Will Aronson, lyrics by Hue Park and book by both Aronson and Park. Direction is by Tony Award-winner Michael Arden. Maybe Happy Ending will also feature Dez Duron who makes his Broadway debut along with Shen.
Maybe Happy Ending will begin previews on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 and open on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the Belasco Theatre (111 W. 44th St.). Final casting as well as ticketing and on-sale information will be announced at a later date.

Day 9
i did not travel half way around the world to hang out with NPR white people!! story slams are not my thing, i had to do a moth workshop for another fellowship a couple years ago, and damn, i don't rly like that shit. i got to be a judge tonight though. it was the first slam they have hosted. these people were honestly really awful. super brash annoying american man vibes, but its always kinda fun to talk shit with people you'll never see again. I was one of the last folks to leave cause people kept buying me drinks. the last time i traveled like this, with really no personal agenda, and time to just chill and see where the day takes me, was 10 years ago, i was still underage. its fun. i never thought i would have this luxury again. this fellowship is like adult summer camp and i'm not complaining tbh. it feels so surreal. overall, today was almost boring. i went to the post office but was not too impressed with the architecture or the postcards available for sale. I found the only cute one (the only studio ghibli design and the last one at that), wrote a note to my partner about how I didn't eat anything yet today, and sent it off to brooklyn. Im curious how long it will take to get there.

since I had some free time, for sunset I went to what i think might be the saigon equivalent to Domino Park or some other type of privately owned waterfront pier, idk if its publicly owned or not, but its behind the complex of lux apartments I see from my apartment, and is cut off from the rest of the waterfront. I counted 14 cranes around the skyline, like building cranes, not birds. But there of course were some nice birds and tons of fish as well. Also turns out it was a full/nearly full moon. the moonrise was a nice treat.

i got home drunk from the story slam and took down the shitty canvas' in the room that say "home" and "home is not a place it's a feeling." they're just so ugly, and i don't need that type of motivation or encouragement. cant look at them for two more weeks.

You didn’t have any photos of you and your boyfriend, largely because paparazzi and Army didn’t know you existed. Which is how it had to be, and how you wanted it to be. But staring at the two of you, his arm around your waist, smile across his lips, you just stared.
           “It’s a cute photo,” Namjoon said, plopping down next to you.
           “Is it?” You asked, swiping to bring up the next photo. “Oh god,” You said in disgust.
           “What’s wrong?” He asked, zooming in on the photo.
           “Look at us!” You said.
           “I see it, I like it,” He said glancing away from your phone.
           “Well, yeah because you look hot 100% of the time,” You said, swiping to the next one. “Why did he take so many, and all of them suck?”
           “You look beautiful 100% of the time, and those photos don’t suck.”
           “No, I don’t,” You responded tossing her phone onto the couch.  
           “What is going on?” Namjoon asked, setting his phone on the coffee table and gingerly placing a leg underneath him so he could face you as you paced across the living room.
           “I look like, I look like a fucking whale,” You declared. The tears began prickling at the corners of your eyes and you blinked quickly to try and dissipate them.
           “Babe, you look beautiful,” He reassured.
           “Joon, stop.” You said, voice trembling.
           “I don’t know where this is coming from,” He replied, staring at you. His eyebrows were knitted together, unsure what his next move was supposed to be.
