#“Pouilleux” mostly means someone in severe poverty

The version I (French) know isn't called like that - we call it "Lousy" as in someone who is full of lice (le Pouilleux)

At the beginning of the game, a random card is removed from the deck. No-one knows which one it is, so the secret is kept longer. The "Lousy" card is the one which can't find its pair.

Old maid is a card game where three queens are removed from a standard deck of cards. Cards are dealt to players one per turn, and pairs are discarded. The player left with the single queen (the "old maid") loses.
