#‘what gender comes to mind when you hear trucker’ my brain: ‘uncle’

I just remembered this one time I had a teacher get mad at me because when she asked me what gender came to mind first when she said trucker (she was trying to prove how sexism gets ingrained into us from society) I didn’t actually have a gender come to mind. Just a list of everyone I remember meeting who had that career. My uncle did come to mind first on the list but that was because he was my fucking un cle. This kept happening for any job I knew people who had. If I didn’t know anyone the results may or may not have been whatever she wanted, but she was very mad that if I knew anyone (often multiple people) with that job they would all bombard me at once in rapid succession the moment someone asks me to picture someone with that career
#emma posts#I’m not saying there isn’t any sexism in my brain from society#but it was weird to be mad at a kid for not having the results you wanted in THEIR OWN HEAD#this was the same teacher that dismissed my question about queer people during sex ed by saying ‘they’re only like 1% of the population#so it doesn’t matter’ and just ignore them#and the same one who had us watch a movie about a guy who watched 1950s sitcoms and thought life was ideal then and that he wanted to go#there/then. he then realizes actually that wasn’t super great#and wanted us to take away the lesson that the 50s were better?#and even if it wasn’t so obvious. i was taking a class on film analysis at the same time#different hours obviously. but I don’t think i would have needed that to figure out the actual theme of the movie#so I had to just pretend that the message was the exact opposite so I could get a good grade in that class#I don’t think she liked me. I wasn’t what she wanted from me#oh. I forgot to mention. I knew multiple queer kids who were sitting with me in that exact classroom at that moment including myself#‘what gender comes to mind when you hear trucker’ my brain: ‘uncle’
