book fans using the “source material” defense (note i’m saying source material because it is solely used as a reference when people want to adapt a storyline) as an excuse to be blatantly racist CONSTANTLY needs to be stopped. ‘oh i can say that because they don’t look the same as in the books and i’m just right about everything because i’m a BOOK FAN/[ORIGINAL TV/FILM] FAN’.
in literally no world does that validate the discrimination, abuse and relentless trolling that you waste your stupid, meaningless lives on? you can’t hear anyone out, you never will and you ruin something that is genuinely good (but you wouldn’t know because you don’t actually look to talent/potential/ability instead of “accurate looks”) because you’re some fucked up ‘tehe so petite i read books i love blonde hair etc’ all because of your twisted views. GROW UP.
media is becoming diverse - that’s a positive thing and should never be negated. for years there has been so many people begging for a chance to see someone like themselves on screens and when someone like that comes along, they have someone to idolize and identify with. trying to bring that down is petty, sad and pathetic. if you can’t understand how small on screen representation of people of colour, LGBTQ+ people or people with disabilities is and that seeing it in mainstream stuff is good, you might need a massive blow to the head.
