i honestly have zero grasp of which Mountain Goats songs are even popular outside of the obvious (No Children, This Year)… people will post about adoring songs i’ve never heard of from albums i forget exist half the time and get 500 notes, but a few weeks ago i was talking to someone at a show who’s seen them live seven times and told her my favorite songs were Snow Crush Killing Song and Maize Stalk Drinking Blood and she had no idea what the hell i was talking about

#which is NOT me being elitist btw… the whole point is that our varied gaps in knowledge are really funny #and make total sense for a band with such a massive discography #frankly she knew way more than i did #it was just really funny to be like ‘these are my FAVORITE songs from this band we both like’ and have the other person go ‘huh?’#truly an incredible experience #she was very supportive of my random ass songs #which also have insane names to be fair #she might very well have known them if she’d heard them #hilariously i was googling snow crush killing song the other day bc i needed a screenshot of the lyrics #and i came upon a reddit post grouping those two songs specifically together FOR BEING DEPRESSING AND HOPELESS #‘gut-wrenching’ was the exact terminology - i believe #and it’s like. hmmmm… not sure what that says about me but cool cool cool #tmg #the mountain goats
