Lada & Volot as Sun & Moon with Starry Sky behind them 🌌☀🌒

The celestial imagery of the Sun, the Moon & the Sky is relevant to the story and was mentioned in the Polish Inscription on the Zbruch Idol from episode 1:

"Three tiers of figures symbolize three cosmic realms. The moon, the sun, the sky. Four figures. Four seasons. Four faces. The universe"

Stars also carry some heavy symbolic meaning in ATHWTU. With a falling star (I mean it's not really a star astromically but it's still symbolically relevant) from episode 1 being a bad omen of someone dying (Vereya's death) and the mysterious long-haired ghostlike character reciting this riddle/prophecy to Lada (most likely about her and her sisters):

"One star fell, another faded, and only the last remained shining"

Obviously so much beautiful ethereal imagery couldn't leave me unimpressed and I had no choice but to get inspired by that 💙✨

Lada and Tata's relationship is the most normal out of all of them when it comes to its development and general lack of toxicity.

They're newly made friends who bonded over someone close to both of them who died, they're both loners, outcasts who struggle to fit in (Lada is the withdrawn shepherdess and Tata is "no one's girl") who get brought together by collective suffering. They're close in age and mentality. Their positions and reputations in the village are similar.

Tata's romance makes the most sense: two young women finding some (maybe) unusual comfort in each other due to shared trauma.

This is notable imo because female LIs rarely appear like the 'correct' decision. Sure, most of them are "the best friend" or "the roommate" or "the maid" but the story obviously doesn't present them as the player's best pick, the canon choice, as in her romance path is natural.

Can you tell I like this route?

Tried using White!Volot in my other slot and my goodness I couldn't take him seriously. I could only see him in Adidas tracksuit and knock-off Burberry cap 😭😭😭. The season finale did not hit the same with Wholot 😭. Sorry 😭🙏🙏🙏.

while racism with volot + the mc in the russian fandom was not... surprising to me? (i didn't expect it but many russians, and by extension eastern europeans, do hold outdated views, so it's not new to me) i think it just drives home the fact that white russians will never consider poc as russian or "like them".

russia is home to MANY indigenous people and i've seen so many stories, as a person with heritage to the sakha people, from other indigenous people who are always made to feel like outsiders because they don't look russian enough. they're, quite literally, publicly shunned and people saying that volot/lada being dark skinned ruins the "accuracy" of the story about slavic mythology forget that poc russians are still... russians, they have a place in russian culture.

also, let's not forget that, while being a minority, some central asians are also considered slavic. and they do not look "stereotypically" russian.

this definitely is a problem with most slavic/eastern european people because they assume that apperance determines your heritage or your blood, it does not. to say that a poc who has slavic blood, spoke a slavic language, was raised in slavic culture isn't slavic just because they're a poc is extremely racist.

It's two weeks before Christmas and I'm trying to get myself into the Holiday Spirit by commissioning festive fanarts of my favorite couple in RC ❤❄✨ (well, kinda, I have my issues with them and I've spoken about it before)

Pictured here is the Slavic tradition of Kolyadki (basically some sort of caroling). The participants dress up as different animals and fairy-tale characters, go from door to door and perform special songs - ‘kolyadki’. Sometimes they're rewarded by festive treats 🎄🍪🍬
