i'm really bored so uh. here have some of my headcanons for the main yttd characters

sara: wears expensive strawberry perfume. probably class president, and one of the, if not the, top student at sonobeno. really likes shortbread. dated ryoko briefly but they ended up just being friends again

shin: he's trying to make it as a twitch streamer. he doesn't have many followers but is actually really good. dropped out of university due to chronic illness making it hard for him to attend. never really bullied at school, but completely ignored (he's so me fr fr)

keiji: has definitely made those weird police officer thirst traps on tiktok (the ones kurtis connor made a video on). megumi had all of them saved to her phone. he now moderates a police rp discord server. bisexual with a lot of internalised homophobia

gin: he's scared of spiders, but will never admit it. he's also eaten bugs before because he saw a cat doing it. has a pet rock and collects little plastic animal figures and pokemon cards. was absolutely obsessed with dinosaurs when he was younger

reko: did ballet as a child. will never admit this and would probably kill anyone who brought it up. was in an idol group as a teenager and still has trauma from the idol industry. burnt out gifted kid

alice: took up knitting as a hobby in prison and always sent reko incredibly lumpy jumpers (it's the thought that counts, it's fine). she never opened the parcels. used gonbee as a name when he socially transitioned in high school, but ended up changing it back to alice. history buff. got top surgery from a friend in uni

nao: her favourite food is creme brulee. works part time at a convenience store to pay for college. went to high school with shin but doesn't remember him. most of her money goes into hair upkeep and scrunchies. has a mishima shrine in her dorm room (her friends want her to go to therapy). has an anxiety disorder

mishima: he has several pet rats, most of which are named after famous artists. still kind of an alcoholic but mostly drinks unhealthy amounts of tea instead. intentionally makes himself look weird (specifically in terms of his hair) because he's slightly more unsettling when he doesn't. in a similar vein, he smells of oil paint because it covers up the smell of cigarette smoke. was homeless as a teenager and has never had a good relationship with his family. owns a copy of the communist manifesto

kai: he doesn't cook tiramisu because it reminds him too much of sei. mr chidouin gave him a 'kiss the cook' apron once, and kai hates it but wears it sometimes anyway to make him happy. has always enjoyed being sara's bodyguard because it gave him a chance to experience a normal childhood. has never given gashu a father's day gift. sometimes has hallucinations of sei

q-taro: was never adopted due to not being japanese, which made him really insecure. always got rejected from the baseball team in middle school, but had a full-on anime training arc before high school and got on the team. still watches the koshien championships every year. got into a pretty good uni on a sports scholarship. goes on holiday to the usa every year. has an incredibly low alcohol tolerance

kanna: has actually kept pudding under her bucket before to hide it from kugie and their parents. her favourite ice cream flavour is vanilla. kind of a theatre kid and especially enjoys six and heathers. almost as good at video games as shin, except minecraft which she is much better at. usually plays minecraft on peaceful mode but is unbeatable at pvp. makes incredibly messed up sims 4 storylines. likes vocaloid music

joe: listens to idol groups sometimes (sara bullies him over it). massive one piece fan and has played danganronpa. has a part time job at an arcade and always helps sara and ryoko cheat at the games. loves ramen. actually a pretty decent cook

Once again thinking about Yabusames. Gender hcs under cut bc when am I Not thinking about them

Reko is afab intersex and uses she/they, Alice is transmasc and uses he/him

When they were younger, their parents weren't particularly strict about gendered presentation, but they were put under significantly more scrutiny after Reko got scouted for music talent

Reko quickly realized (as they tried and failed to force her to conform) that gender was just another performance and something societal and artificial. As a consequence it became one of her first and favorite avenues for rebellion bc of how visual and in-your-face it often was. They can't take it away from her, so she heavily associates her presentation with her autonomy

Because Reko used gender presentation as rebellion, any attempts by Alice to be more GNC or masc during that time were seen as "Reko being a bad influence" or the possibility of Alice becoming the same kind of problem child. Because of this he effectively resigned himself to obeying the gendered expectations put out for him and became profoundly miserable and pretty antisocial

Reko noticed his change in mood before anyone else and encouraged Alice to be honest with himself about whatever was making him feel like this. He didn't, nor did he explain himself, so Reko was just left thinking her brother was a coward who was making himself miserable for reasons she didn't know. She feels bad about assuming now, but what can you do at 14

Alice transitioned in his early 20s, while Reko transitioned around 13 or so right when her career was starting to take off. In his late teens Alice was in reaaaaaally hardcore denial and tried to shake the feeling by being extra feminine (gestures at his beta design). This didn't work and one day he just snapped, cut his hair short, and came out to his family (who reacted better than he expected)

Reko doesn't fit within and doesn't really care for the gender binary, while Alice cares a decent amount and cares far more about passing. Tell Reko she has a masculine voice and she’ll thank you bc it’s badass, tell Alice he has a feminine voice and he will probably cry about it. Reko was the one who convinced Alice he didn’t need to change his name if he didn’t want

shin with an espeon because he canonically likes cats. he probably wanted an umbreon to match the cat plush in sou’s room but eevee followed him to work on a day shift and evolved, but he loves his partner anyways :)

sara with umbreon because she wanted a black cat in the manga. the type matchups make sense to me with shin having the weaker matchup.

gin with a growlithe and q-taro with an arcanine would be so cuteee. they’re father and son to me idc 😭

joe with a rockruff omlll. his uniform would always be a little roughed up because he can never resist playing with his partner!!

a zorua would go so well with reko’s color scheme aaaaa. maybe having it use rain dance during live venues to preform with her!!

nao with an altaria because the artbook said she likes fluffy thingss. i could totally see her napping with an altaria. little bit angsty here, but maybe a mishima’s smergle she raises after his death

alice with a zebstrika or furret because he likes striped things. i like to imagine his pokemon would occasionally bicker with reko’s zorua, but get their ass beat every time 😭

kai would have a ghost time to freak the yabusames out like he did in ytts. maybe a sableye or a yamask, but i feel like he would look so cunty with a froslass!!

i have no reason for this one but keiji with a gible makes sense in my head. idk… i can just see him doing his best to calm down a rambunctious gible that’s chasing the other participants around.

anzu with a blacephalon because its clownlike and not as off-putting as mr mime. i don’t like mr. mime, and i also feel like it’d be an uncreative cop-out to give her.

kuramada with a primape or hitmonlee that he spars with from time to time. they have specially tailored boxing gloves :”)

mai with a fidough. no explanation needed. your honor, they have matching bread hats!! she lets her partner help in the kitchen and just prays the fda doesn’t swing by.

i imagine kanna with a sweets themed pokemon bc of her pudding bucket in ytts. maybe a milcery or alcremie. i imagine shin’s espeon has a timid nature and she has to let it slowly warm up to her and her partner pokemon.

i feel like hinako would have a giant terrifying ass pokemon, slightly due to the fact that she’s intimidating and mysterious herself. mostly due to the fact that i think it would be really funny for the shortest character to have a giant scary pokemon lurking behind them.

ranmaru is kinda gloomy, so i feel like he would empathize well with a mimikyu and they would bond in no time. his partner is terrified of sara’s umbreon and every time he tries to approach her, mimikyu panics and he gives up. poor guy :(

hayasaka with a really mischievous rotom that he cannot control is a really cute image in my head, so i’m giving him that

He’s super sweet even if he’s still sorta a big meanie

I think it’s cute

Honestly I think I skipped him the first couple times he popped up as a match

And he’s like one of my favorites (obviously seeing as he’s number three)

I now understand the hype surrounding him because I would actually kill someone for this man

It makes me upset how he’s always like “she’s still my mom”

Like yeah but she literally ABUSED YOU?????

Like I understand completely and I know it would be hard to just turn off loving her for him

But UGH

And showed me the ocean in a way that didn’t terrify me (I’m afraid of the ocean)

I can breathe underwater and I’m not dying or anything so it’s less scary

But I’m still scared of the ocean

It he has a castle that I live in so it’s FINE

Literally would help me get over my fear if he wouldn’t eat me

To start off Felix and Brook are pretty much equal

Like it’s a poly relationship and I like them pretty much the same

They’re both sweet men and they’re both attractive

Even though I hated that they all abandoned me

I do think it’s attractive that they all took time to better themselves and their relationship

Like it takes a lot to realize when to step back because the situation you’re in isn’t a good one or might lead to you resenting someone

They were cool

And he was a model so obviously he was hot

Actually insane?

I like him a lot simply because he seems psychotic

Well sad in that he is cursed

I’m pretty sure he was a horrible person and that’s why he was cursed

He was up at the top before I finished his story a while ago

And now he’s back but I’m not as crazy about him because I’m crazy about tamura so I haven’t played his update yet

But I do LOVE him

Anyways she’s so sweet and deserves love and I want her to be happy and get more breaks from working

Only thing I currently don’t like is how she literally is spending our honeymoon being a nurse

But also irl I would be okay with that bc that means I can be alone for some of the day so oof

I like her more now than I did in the beginning

In the beginning she was kinda annoying

But now I’m like OKAY she deserves the WORLD

Like not because she’s a kitsune but like she is SO PRETTY

And I do like that she’s a family girl

I do think it’s weird that she was like “I don’t want anything serious”

But wanted us to help her with everything

Like I think at this point we’re something more but they haven’t made it official

Yesterday I went roller skating with my friends (it was great fun), and it inspired me to come up with Headcanons for if some of the YTTD cast did aswell!

•First of all, Nao and Joe are both really good at it, they probably do it a lot as a hobby and can do some cool tricks without breaking their necks! :D

•Reko, on the other hand, is complete dogshit at it, she cannot go more than a minute without falling over.

•Sara, while not as bad as Reko, isn’t perfect at it, and gets embarrassed and/or frustrated whenever she falls over.

•Sou, maybe being new to skating, makes sure to stick near a fence or wall to cling to if he gets close to falling.

•Kanna, also being new to it, feels no fear, and has a great time going fast and trying to jump and stuff, after all, falling over is a part of the experience. Sou gets a heart attack whenever she does this.

•Keiji would immediately fall over as soon as he has skates on and give up. He is doing perfectly fine on solid footing thank you very much.

Has probably explained the plot of a classic to Reko once or twice.] Reko probably also read one or two of his books during his time in prison. (When she was in denial? iirc she was.)

Separately, Reko probably listened to midwest emo & classic emo music at one point.

Gin read Warrior Cats. (And any side series by Erin Hunter, too.) Similarly, Kanna liked WOF, but only read the first few books.

Also, Kanna is a minecrafter. She has the cat plushs.

Kai's not neurotypical. I don't know what he is, but that man cannot be neurotypical.

Shin has not grown since he was like 14. He hates this fact. He is also very much a trans guy. Also, he bullied kids on Roblox at one point alongside Midori.

Nao plays gacha games like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves. (I do the same. She gives me the vibes of someone who picked up art to do fanart at first and then realized she loved it.)

Q-Taro was a scrawny ass kid.

the reason for sawashiros as yabusames is bc… i'm biased but ALSO sawashiro miyuki is known for voicing strong/tomboyish women (she's also franziska von karma btw) or younger boy charas !! and i think that fits reko's vibes a lot… and sawashiro chiharu voiced a bunch of delinquent-kind of charas afaik so i can kinda see him do a good alice (he's also in a band!!)

uchida siblings as greenblings would be really cute too i think.. even tho uchida maaya mostly voice chuuni charas, i feel like her higher tone of voice fits kanna a lot :)) uchida yuuma wasn't my first thought when thinking of a sou voice but i feel like i can see him nail it too tbh.. he's voiced a bunch of calm-collected kind of charas that i think could fit sou

he was mostly likely pretty lonely as a child/teen so, now that he's older it's nice that he can have someone around that will tell him "well done" and give him a hug after he's worked at home all day

reko yabusame ♡

they give her the motivation to put a lot of effort into her music

ever since reko got into a relationship with them, she's been trying to impress them with her skills as a musician

she feels as though getting a bunch of hugs and kisses is a great payoff for working (and sweating) her ass off on stage

Just the swearwords and slangs Brazil has fits them so much, the way they act and speak just scream "Brazilian!" to me
