Truth be said Lance was tempted to capture the different colored pokemon to add in his collection of rare pokemon. But his thoughts were cut short at the sudden arrival of the protagonist and the capture’s success.

He really doesn’t see it as a loss, he has no doubts that pokemon is in very good hands. Sort of making up for all the abuse the poor creature was put through by Team Rocket’s experiments.

// Here is a fun thing I like to consider for Lance and how he managed to get his hands in quite a bunch of dragon types- without actually needing to leave the region.

Being one of the heirs to perhaps the most influential clan in Johto, he is oftenly recieving gifts and offerings from other clans in order to estabilish a good relationship with them.

His clan also does the same thing to those they wish to affiliate with.

The gifts can range from flowers, clothes, jewels- and on a rare instance actual pokemon.

And definetely not the ones easily found in the region.

Being a dragon tamer, means people are bound to give him those that will definetely be of his interest.

It wouldn’t be until he became the regions champion, that Lance actually started to travel abroad. Yet by the time he became an elite member he already had his hands on:

A Swablu

A Vibrava

A Shelgon

A Gible

All of these- without even taking a step out of Kanto or Johto.

Lance’s teams

// At least for the most relevant events within the timeline! He does happen to have others throughout his trainer career but these can be considered as the most important ones.

Elite four member

League trials�� registered team. Once registered, he isn’t allowed to use anything different for the trials.

Lance was forced to hold back his Dragonairs’ evolutions, the League prohibits the use of three pokemon of the same specie for the Elite trainers’ trials team- two being the maximum.

At the time Lance had dragon pokemon of other species, however they lacked the trainning  needed for this position. So he had to fill the gaps with two of the same kind.

Aerodactyl and Gyarados were pokemon he used during his trial to claim the position as the Leader of the Indigo plateau. The pokemon League at Kanto was extremely flexible towards his composition- looking past both non dragon types.

Lance’s signature pokemon was actually one of the Dragonairs- despite already having a Dragonite- this is the closest dragon to him and the one that carries  out to every single future team he has.

Kanjoh’s champion

Now as a champion- he no longer has any kind of restrains for his team.

Both Dragonairs are now fully evolved. Gyarados and Aerodactyl maintained their places within his team.

And his Charizard from his original team got a spot on his team.

These are the only pokemon he may use against a challenger for the champion title.

Personal team

These are the pokemon he is always with, while off duty. Meaning you are bound to find Lance with these most of the time.

He now has had more than enough time to train these pokemon.

Lance already owned Salamence, Altaria and Garchomp by the gen 1′s events, however they weren’t fully evolved.

Unova’s PWT team

Here we see even more examples of previously owned pokemon, that Lance kept trainning and preparing them for these important events. Kingdra, Hydreigon and Flygon were especially trained for the World tournament.

Kingdra replaces Gyarados, Flygon replaces Charizard and Hydreigon replaces Altaria.

Ironically this is the only time we actually get to see him living up to the dragon master title/nickname.
