FOR/IS

 🌾‘If I am worth anything later, I am worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is a grass in the beginning.’ –Vincent Van Gogh🌾

 🌾This is actually an artist translation from a letter Van Gogh wrote to his brother, Theo. It was Van Gogh’s contemplation of his prospective and worthiness as an artist and how even if it doesn’t end well he would steady on; for he will still be that apple, just riper, for wheat is wheat.

 🌾So I contemplated on one’s worth and how/when does one feel worthy of one’s self. And felt that one might feel worthy or whole once the person has reached harmony with one’s masculine and feminine characteristics. This notion inspired me to do twin pieces. FOR and IS,  breaking up ‘For wheat…’ ‘…is wheat.’

 🌙‘FOR wheat…’ is represented by the moon; the feminine traits of oneself and is outlined in red as to not forget about one’s masculine traits.

☀️‘…IS wheat.’ is represented by the sun; the masculine traits of oneself and is outlined in white as to not forget about one’s feminine traits.

 -The white moon and red sun was inspired by the mural, 일월오봉도(Irworobongdo), the Painting of the Sun, Moon and the Five Peaks. It sits behind the throne of the King during the Joseon Dynasty, symbolizing; the one who has mastered both their masculine and feminine elements within oneself. King would walk up to their throne and they would become the point of focus of the entire painting. I thought that was pretty cool. Thanks for dropping by my TEDTalk. One would always see these people who dedicate themselves to traveling, and wonder “How do they make money out of this?”

That’s what they thought of Lyn, she was young and she dedicated her life on traveling the world. Starting from when her mom and dad met. Her grandmother was known to always to travel, and she had a handful amount of friends everywhere. Yet her grandmother ended up falling in love with Japan. Nevertheless she took her bags, left Spain and moved by the dazzling scenery. Her mom ended up going to school in Japan and met her father. They had Lyn and her sister later after marrying. Now the girl never liked to study, all she ever did was look at the zephyr carry the leaves. Being her grandmother’s favorite, she made sure she wasn’t scolded for her low grades. Her sister on the other hand was studious.

As little girls they would see their grandmother coming in and out of the house. Bringing some gifts from her trip in Israel, or her stories from her friends in Nepal. Lyn was always fascinated by the world out her window. Her grandmother took her on her first trip to western Europe, to not only meet her family back in Spain, but to see how things are different from back home. Even if her grandmother traveled she didn’t get to travel to every place she wanted. She always carried a travel journal. That contained ongoing list of places she wanted to meet, and addresses of her friends that she made throughout her life. Though one day she started growing sick, and passed away.

Lyn got to tell her grandmother about her dream of traveling the world. And her grandmother made sure to leave things to guide her. Lyn was able to take her list and continue on making it all come true. Since her grandmother was loved by her international friends, they made sure to care for her granddaughter. They would buy her a ticket, and let her stay with them. And now she’s grown, and has been doing all of it for years.

Today she’s getting back from Galapagos Island, and going back to Japan. She hasn’t seen her parents and sister in a year, but she’s finally going there for a few months. As the glass doors open she inhales her home’s air. Her heart fills with a familiar warmth, “I should come here more often” she states. Leaving the moment she looks for a cab. “Good morning sir, are you taking any rides?” she greets the middle aged man who was at a wait for a costumer. “Yes I am miss, do you need help with your suitcase?” he asked. “It’s alright sir, I can put it on the back trunk myself. Thank you for the offer”.

She rolls her suitcase over to the back side of the cab and opens up the trunk. She rolls up her sleeves and puts her larger suitcase first. Then her smaller one, but as she closes the trunk, she feels an object leave her bag. On the ground the girl sees her grandmother’s journal, in panic she goes to grab it. Not until a vast hand grabs it first. She looks up at the owner of the hand and sees a tall blonde guy in front of her. He was wearing sunglasses with fancy clothes, lush one would say. He had sharp features, but covered his eyes. “You drop this” his voice was on the lower side. “oh um thank you” she said as she placed it her bag. She said goodbye to the stranger and went inside the cab. She gave the man her destination and sighed.

“That was a handsome guy right there” the man spoke up. “I believe so sir, but he had his eyes cover” you were the person who had to look at someone’s eyes first to see if you feel attracted towards them. “How old are you Miss? He seemed around your age” he asked. “Oh I’m nineteen, I’m turning twenty in July” she answered. “Oh so your born in 2005, my niece is your age. Do you study?” he questioned. “I actually don’t, I travel around the world. I have a travel blog and I’m currently working on a book for it” traveling was expensive, but you were starting to get recognize by it and people wanted to know more on your adventures. “Oh really? That seems very nice Miss, I’m always telling my niece to enjoy while she’s young, and travel. All she does is study like crazy, poor thing doesn’t go out much either” he rambled. “I’m sure she will one day come to realize, maybe you should talk her into it” you suggested. “I will do Miss” the whole ride to your family’s house was filled with conversations with the man. You always enjoyed talking to older people, they always had a lot to say.

On the other side, minutes ago rank the stranger. “She dropped this photo” the guy talks to himself. He studied the photo to see what seemed to be the girl from before. She looked younger, and was hugging an older woman who resembled her. They were both smiling in front of what seemed to be the Eiffel Tower. There was one thing for sure he would recall. The two green eyes staring up at him. He never was much with feeling, but those eyes definitely kept him engrossed. “Riki come on, your family would want to see you as soon as possible” his manager motioned. He got inside the dark van and held the photograph in his hand. “Who was that?” asked one of his members. “Oh she dropped her journal, I just gave it back to her Jay hyung” to avoid any further suspicion he put the photograph in his inside pocket. “Well let’s go you two, Riki’s mom keeps calling me to see if we arrived” and with that said they left.

“Oh Lyn my dear look at you! You lost some weight. Come inside for a snack” your mom said as you were taking out your suitcases, but your father interrupted you and helped you getting them inside. “Hello father” you hugged him. “Hello Lyn, it’s nice to see you back home” he smiles at you. Your mom wraps her arm around you, “Your sister will be coming back from school in a hour, she’s excited to see you” her mom couldn’t help but smile the whole time. You were gonna go inside, but not before you greet the man who drove you home, goodbye. “You have to tell me everything about your trip, did you take any photos?” and that’s how you concluded your way back home. Oh so you thought.

“Isn’t that the cab from earlier?” the guy mumbles under his breath. He arrived home, the van parked by the entry of his house and he couldn’t help but notice the cab parked in front of the neighbor’s house. Before he can think about it he hears his mom’s scream as she comes out the door. “Riki your home!” she tightly hugs her son. The guy embraces his mom in a tight hug as well. He’s missed her very much. “Jay how are you sweetie, thank you for coming with Riki” she hugs the eldest of the pair. “Come inside, your sister and dad are waiting” she motioned. “Is there any food inside?” Riki asked. “We have some snacks but at two in the afternoon we’re having a coming home lunch. The neighbors are joining us. Their youngest daughter came back from a trip, so we decided to combine it” she informs him. “Ah that’s the neighbors who moved here after I left for South Korea, right?” he questioned. “Yes dear, now come your sister is excited to see you!” before he went inside he glanced at his neighbors house. Could it be?

okay...hello! I wanted to get Riki’s story together so we can have the maknae line complete. I hope you enjoy your day and night. It was a long week. It was my birthday on the 8th and my mom wanted to have this family dinner and all.
