“All Rise” On this last day of Chanukah, I wanted to reflect on a concept that is quintessential to the kashrut of the menorah/chanukiah. In order for one to be kosher the evenness and equity between the branches, save for the shamash, the utilitarian candle which is used to light the others. The crucial message to me has never been more resonant especially as it seems to pertain to so many aspects of my life at this moment: meeting folks where they are despite their differences and creating a more inclusive society free of ableism and discrimination that serves a hegemonic straight white supremacist standard.
