Probably, yeah. I mean, Valentina Tereshkova is still alive and active in the Russian Duma and she's the one who proposed the awful constitutional amendment that extended Putin's term indefinitely.

Here she is cozying up to all the Russian leaders (sans Gorbachev).

The Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 would probably be the closest analogue to Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. I wonder how the cosmonauts reacted to it, if they even cared at all. I might dig around in their diaries/memoirs/letters and see. I can already imagine the answer though.

6 - mission you wish you could go on (and what role you’d play)

Well, if we look at the existence of the ISS as one big mission, I wish I could visit the ISS before the de-commission it in a few years. My role would probably be something like "payload specialist", but specifically, with my physics bachelor's and master's degrees, I would be well suited to performing the experiments that they do on the ISS. I could probably also do some language and translation work on the ISS given my high-level Russian.

Of course, they would never send me to the ISS because I have some health problems that would disqualify me from becoming an astronaut (and perhaps going up at all). I'm not a millionaire who could pay for my own ticket if by some miracle I was allowed to go up, either.

Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova (Валентина Владимировна Терешкова) - Russian engineer, member of the Federal Assembly of Russia, and former Soviet cosmonaut. She is most famous for being the first and youngest woman in space, having flown a solo mission on the Vostok 6 in June of 1963 at the age of 26. Valentina spent almost 3 consecutive days in space, orbiting the Earth 48 times. She remains the only woman to have been on a solo space mission.

She orbited the Earth 48 times, spent almost three days in space, and remains the only woman to have been on a solo space mission.

Disclaimer: what she did for women in science was great but as a member of the United Russia party she did vote for the invasion of Ukraine and this blog as shared many stories about the rapes and other hardships of Ukrainian women that followed the invasion.
