synopsis! every october, you’d meet on the rooftop. But this time, something feels different—maybe it’s a beginning, or maybe it’s the end.

it was another october night, the crisp autumn air and the stars shining. the roof had always been your spot, hidden above the city, away from the world below. the kind of place where you could forget everything, even for a little while. tonight was no different. the cool autumn air brush against your skin as you climbed the last set of stairs, already knowing who would be there, waiting.
jay sat at the edge, legs dangling over the side, a cigarette balanced between his fingers, glowing faintly in the dark. you couldn't help but smile. the view was nothing compared to him. you'd always loved the way he looked up here, free and untouchable, like the city lights below didn't matter, like you both were the only ones who existed.
he turned around as he heard your footsteps. "about time you got here!" he called out, waving you over like he hadn't seen you in years, even though you had hung out just the other day. "i was starting to think you ditched me for someone else."
you smiled, walking closer to him. he handed you the cigarette, his knee bumping against yours.
you smirked, looking out over the city, watching as the cars past by. "i bet they're not as good at rooftops as i am."
you looked over your shoulder with a smile so wide, silently laughing before taking a drag and passing it back. he was always like this–he made the silence feel so comforting. it was one of the things you liked most about being around him. he never made anything awkward. every moment with him was comfortable.
"oh, please," you scoffed, settling down beside him. "i could probably get up here blindfolded, and you’d still be struggling with the fire escape."
he chuckled softly, taking a slow drag from the cigarette before passing it back to you. "guess that’s why i keep you around, huh? someone’s gotta show me the ropes."
you glanced sideways at him, watching as the faint orange glow lit up his features in the dark. "yeah, and who’d keep you company on these lonely nights?" you countered, raising an eyebrow.
jay tilted his head, pretending to think it over, his expression turning serious for a split second. "hmm, i dunno," he said, shrugging playfully. "i’m pretty good at keeping myself entertained."
"oh, really?" you shot back, smiling wider. "then why’d you call me up here tonight?"
"because..." he paused, lips twitching as if trying to hold back a smirk. "because no one makes rooftops as good as you do."
the words were casual, but there was a softness to his gaze that made your pulse quicken. his knee brushed against yours again, deliberate this time, and you swore you felt warmth spreading through your skin, despite the chill in the air.
"i knew it," you said quietly, leaning a little closer, voice teasing. "you’d be bored out of your mind without me."
"maybe," he murmured, his tone low and almost thoughtful. "but don’t go thinking i’d ever admit that out loud." his eyes met yours, and for a heartbeat, everything else seemed to fade away—the city, the cold, even the stars above.
"lucky for you, i’m not asking for confessions." you winked, taking one last drag and handing the cigarette back, your fingers brushing his. the fleeting touch made something flutter in your chest, but you pushed it down, swallowing the feeling as quickly as it came.
jay held your gaze a moment longer, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "good," he murmured, voice soft as the night around you. "because up here, with you... it’s already more than enough."
and for a second, you almost believed it—believed that maybe, just maybe, this rooftop could really be your own little world. a place where nothing else mattered, where everything between you stayed simple, uncomplicated.
just the two of you, hidden above the city. away from it all.
you looked back at him, his face relaxed, that mischievous smile still playing on his lips. the way he looked at everything–at the sky, the city, at you– like the world wasn't so complicated.
"i mean, look at us. just two cool people chilling under the city sky.."
"why do if feel like you're trying to sell me on something?" you said, nudging his arm.
he raised an eyebrow, playing along. "maybe i am. maybe this rooftop is the best-kept secret in the whole city, and i'm just sharing it with you because you're my favorite person."
the way he said it so easily made your heart race a little. not that you'd ever admit it.
for a couple minutes it went quiet, letting the peacefulness of the night overcome your senses.
jay looked over at you, his eyes glossed over as he takes another drag of the cigarette. as you turn to look at him, he blows the smoke in your face, laughing as you start to cough and swatt away the smoke.
"ugh, you jerk!" you choked out, shoving his shoulder lightly as you coughed. you brushed off your shirt, whining "you're such an ass! now my clothes are gonna smell like your stinky smoke breath"
jay only grinned wider, his laugh echoing softly in the stillness of the night. "what? didn’t know you were so sensitive," he teased, eyes sparkling with amusement.
"shut up," you muttered, rolling your eyes, but you couldn’t fight back the smile tugging at your lips. he was so infuriating sometimes, but that’s what made being around him so addictive. he could turn even the simplest of moments into something unforgettable.
"aw, come on," he said, voice dipping softer with a hint of a teasing tone. "you know i’m just messing with you."
"yeah, yeah," you grumbled, pretending to be annoyed, but the warmth in your chest gave you away. "one of these days, jay, i’m gonna get you back."
he leaned closer, his knee pressing firmly against yours, and for a second, you could feel the heat radiating off him, even in the cool autumn air. "i’d like to see you try," he murmured, eyes locked on yours, his voice low and challenging.
the playful banter melted into something quieter, something unspoken lingering between you two. you held his gaze, feeling the tension grow, heavy and electric, making your heart beat just a little bit faster.
but then, as if sensing the shift, jay pulled back slightly, breaking the spell with a light laugh. "so," he said casually, glancing up at the sky, "what do you say we make this a tradition? every october—same time, same place. just us."
the sincerity in his tone caught you off guard, and you blinked, surprised. "really?" you asked softly.
he nodded, that easy smile still on his face, but there was something more to it now—something genuine. "yeah. i mean, who else would i want up here?"
your breath caught, and for a moment, you didn’t know what to say. jay had a way of saying things so effortlessly, making your heart stumble over itself without even trying.
"okay," you whispered finally, a small smile forming on your lips. "deal."
he looked at you then, really looked at you, and in the dim light of the city below, with the stars shining above, you thought you saw something flicker in his gaze—something warm and unguarded.
"deal," he echoed softly, his voice barely more than a breath.
the quiet settled over you again, the kind of silence that wasn’t empty but full—full of everything that didn’t need to be said. and as you both sat there, side by side, legs dangling over the edge of the rooftop, the world seemed to blur around you, leaving just the two of you and the stars above.
because up here, hidden away from everything else, it felt like you could stay forever. just you and jay. your own little world, where nothing else mattered. and for once, that seemed like enough.
that was 2 years ago, now you're in senior year. and now, things felt different.
the rooftop was still the same—quiet, hidden away from the world below. the stars still shone above, and the city lights flickered softly, casting their glow on the familiar spot where you used to sit. but something had changed. maybe it was the way jay seemed more distant lately, or maybe it was the way your own heart ached every time you thought about those nights you’d shared.
he wasn’t here tonight. you knew he wouldn’t be.
the past few months had been a blur. senior year had a way of swallowing up time, pushing everyone in different directions, and for some reason, you and jay had drifted. it wasn’t like you wanted it to happen—it just did. he’d gotten busier, you’d gotten quieter, and the rooftop, once your shared escape, had become a memory instead of a reality.
you sat down at the same spot, knees pulled up to your chest as you stared out at the city. it was colder now. the autumn wind bit at your skin, harsher than you remembered, and you found yourself wishing—hoping—that somehow, things would go back to how they used to be. that you’d hear the sound of jay’s footsteps behind you, followed by his usual teasing greeting.
but all you heard was silence.
you sighed, leaning back on your palms, letting your gaze drift to the stars. they looked smaller tonight, dimmer. or maybe it was just your mood. you’d tried to call him earlier—left a couple of messages he hadn’t responded to. there was always an excuse these days. “busy with assignments,” “got a game tonight,” “catching up with some friends.” every time, it felt like a wall between you two grew a little taller, a little thicker.
“guess this tradition’s officially broken, huh?” you murmured softly to no one, your voice barely more than a whisper.
you glanced to your left, to where jay used to sit, legs dangling over the edge. it was funny how empty it felt now, how much space one person could leave behind just by not being there. you thought about that first october night, about the way his knee would brush against yours, the playful banter, the quiet moments when it felt like the whole world had shrunk down to just the two of you.
he’d been your best friend for as long as you could remember. and somewhere along the way, he’d become something more. something you never had the courage to name. not to him, not even to yourself. because if you said it out loud, it might change everything. and the thought of losing jay completely was worse than anything.
but now… now you were losing him anyway.
“idiot,” you muttered to yourself, squeezing your eyes shut. you shouldn’t be surprised. people grow apart. life gets in the way. it’s just… you’d hoped, foolishly, that it wouldn’t happen to you and jay. that maybe, somehow, you’d always stay the same—him teasing, you pretending to be annoyed, the both of you meeting up here, year after year.
“hey,” a voice broke through your thoughts, soft and a little out of breath.
your eyes snapped open, and there he was—jay, standing at the top of the stairs, hands shoved in his pockets, his hair tousled from the wind. he looked just like he always did, but at the same time, completely different. older, sharper. more distant.
“sorry i’m late,” he said, offering you a half-smile, like nothing had changed at all.
for a second, you just stared, your heart pounding so hard you were sure he could hear it. “thought you weren’t coming,” you managed, trying to keep your voice steady.
he shrugged, walking over and sitting down beside you. “wouldn’t miss it,” he said lightly, but there was something in his tone—something that made your chest tighten.
“oh, please,” you scoffed, trying to mask the rush of emotions flooding through you. “you practically missed the whole thing. i’ve been out here forever.”
“well, i’m here now,” he replied softly, eyes flickering to yours before looking away, out at the city. “isn’t that what matters?”
you bit your lip, turning your gaze back to the skyline. “yeah. guess so.”
the silence stretched between you, long and heavy. but it wasn’t the comfortable quiet you used to share. it was filled with all the words you hadn’t said, the questions you were too afraid to ask. what happened to us? where did we go wrong? why does it feel like you’re slipping away?
“so,” he began, breaking the stillness, “are you gonna give me the silent treatment all night, or…?”
you blinked, glancing over at him. “what? no. i just…” you trailed off, swallowing hard. “i didn’t think you wanted to do this anymore.”
his brow furrowed, the smile slipping from his face. “what do you mean?”
“jay,” you said quietly, turning to face him fully. “we haven’t hung out in months. you barely talk to me anymore. i… i thought maybe…” you hesitated, the words catching in your throat. “maybe you didn’t want to be friends anymore.”
the look on his face was unreadable—some mix of confusion and guilt and something else you couldn’t place. “that’s not true,” he said firmly, eyes searching yours. “you’re still my best friend. you always have been.”
“then why does it feel like I’m losing you?” you whispered, your voice trembling despite your best efforts to keep it steady.
jay’s expression softened, his gaze dropping to the ground. “i’m sorry,” he murmured, so softly you almost didn’t hear it. “i’ve just… i’ve been caught up in a lot of stuff. school, soccer, everything.” he looked up, meeting your eyes again, and for the first time in a long time, you saw the jay you remembered—the one who made you feel like you were the only person in the world. “but that’s not an excuse. i should’ve tried harder. i’m sorry.”
the sincerity in his voice made your heart ache. “do you mean it?” you asked quietly, your fingers twisting together in your lap.
he nodded, his gaze unwavering. “yeah, i do.”
for a moment, neither of you spoke. and then, slowly, jay reached out, his hand brushing against yours. “let’s start over,” he said softly. “same rooftop. same time. every october. i promise.”
you stared at him, your heart hammering in your chest, and for the first time in what felt like forever, hope flickered to life inside you. “okay,” you whispered, a small, tentative smile forming on your lips. “deal.”
“deal,” he echoed, his fingers curling around yours.
and for the first time in months, it felt like maybe, just maybe, things could go back to the way they were. just you, jay, and the stars above. hidden away from everything else.
just the two of you, like it was meant to be.
you stayed like that for a while, his hand wrapped gently around yours, the silence between you filling with something that felt a lot like hope. it was strange—how just one moment could shift everything, could make the world feel a little brighter, a little less lonely.
but then jay cleared his throat, his grip tightening slightly. “actually,” he murmured, his gaze still fixed on where your hands touched, “there’s something i need to tell you.”
you blinked, the sudden seriousness in his voice making your heart skip. “what is it?” you asked, your voice barely more than a whisper.
he hesitated, his jaw clenching slightly, as if he was trying to find the right words. “i—i wasn’t just busy,” he began slowly, his eyes lifting to meet yours. “i mean, yeah, school and soccer and everything were a lot, but that’s not why i’ve been so distant.”
you frowned, confusion knotting your brows. “then… why?”
jay let out a breath, his shoulders dropping as if he was finally letting go of some invisible weight. “because being around you started feeling… different.”
the world seemed to tilt on its axis. “different how?” you asked softly, your pulse quickening.
“i don’t know,” he said quietly, shaking his head. “i just—being with you used to be easy, you know? it was always just us, hanging out, no pressure. but then, sometime last year, something changed. i started feeling… more.”
you felt your heart stutter, your stomach twisting with a mix of nerves and something warmer, something you didn’t dare to name. “more?” you repeated, your voice barely audible.
jay looked at you then, his eyes dark and serious in the dim light of the city. “yeah. more,” he said softly. “like, every time we were together, i couldn’t stop thinking about how close you were. or how much i wanted to just—” he broke off, exhaling shakily. “to just hold you. to tell you things that friends aren’t supposed to say.”
your breath caught in your throat, your mind spinning. this couldn’t be real. jay—your best friend, the one constant in your life, the person who knew you better than anyone—was saying everything you’d secretly dreamed about, everything you’d thought was impossible.
“so i pulled away,” he continued quietly, his gaze dropping to the ground. “because i thought maybe if i put some space between us, i could make it stop. i didn’t want to mess things up, didn’t want to ruin what we had.” he swallowed hard, his voice breaking slightly. “but all it did was make me realize that i can’t just be your friend. not anymore.”
the words hung between you, heavy and raw, and you felt your heart ache in a way that was both terrifying and exhilarating. “jay…” you breathed, but the rest of your sentence got stuck in your throat.
“i know,” he murmured, his gaze lifting to yours again. “it’s a lot. and maybe you don’t feel the same way, and that’s okay. but… i can’t keep pretending. not when every time i’m with you, all i want to do is—”
and then, before you could even process what was happening, he leaned in, his hand cupping your cheek as his lips brushed against yours.
the kiss was soft, tentative—like he was giving you a chance to pull away. but you didn’t. you couldn’t. because all those feelings you’d buried, all the longing and the confusion and the hope, surged up inside you, crashing over you like a wave.
you kissed him back, your hand reaching up to clutch his jacket as if to ground yourself, to make sure this was real. the rooftop, the stars, the city below—it all faded away, leaving just the two of you, just jay and the taste of him on your lips, warm and familiar and utterly overwhelming.
when he finally pulled back, his forehead resting against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the cool night air, you were both trembling. “i’m sorry,” he whispered, his eyes fluttering shut. “i just… i had to know.”
you shook your head, your hands still gripping his jacket. “don’t be sorry,” you whispered, your voice shaking. “don’t ever be sorry.”
his eyes opened, wide and vulnerable, searching yours for any hint of regret. “so… what does this mean?” he asked softly, his thumb brushing gently against your cheek.
you swallowed, your heart pounding so hard you thought it might burst. “it means… it means i’m an idiot,” you said breathlessly, a small, incredulous laugh escaping you. “because i should’ve told you a long time ago that i—”
“that you what?” he pressed, his gaze intense, almost desperate.
“that i feel the same,” you whispered, the words tumbling out before you could stop them. “that i’ve felt the same for as long as i can remember. i just… i didn’t think you did.”
for a second, jay just stared at you, his expression caught somewhere between shock and disbelief. and then, slowly, a smile spread across his face—the kind of smile that lit up his entire face, made his eyes crinkle at the corners, made your heart stutter in your chest.
“really?” he breathed, his voice soft and full of wonder.
you nodded, biting your lip to keep from grinning like an idiot. “yeah. really.”
and then he was kissing you again, harder this time, his hands sliding into your hair as he pulled you closer, like he couldn’t quite believe you were real, like he was afraid you’d disappear if he let go.
but you didn’t disappear. you stayed, your arms wrapping around his neck as you kissed him back with everything you had, pouring all the words you’d never said, all the emotions you’d buried, into that kiss.
when you finally broke apart, both of you breathless and a little dazed, jay just looked at you, his eyes shining. “so… does this mean you’re stuck with me now?” he teased lightly, his voice still a little unsteady.
you laughed, your chest light and full of something that felt a lot like joy. “i think i can live with that,” you murmured, your fingers brushing against his cheek.
“good,” he whispered, leaning in to press a soft kiss to your forehead. “because i don’t want to lose you. not ever.”
you smiled, your heart swelling as you leaned into his touch. “you won’t,” you promised softly. “i’m not going anywhere.”
and as you sat there, wrapped up in each other on the same rooftop that had once felt so empty, everything seemed to click into place. because this—being here with jay, feeling his warmth, hearing the steady beat of his heart—was exactly where you were meant to be.
just the two of you. together. your own little world, hidden above the city. and this time, you knew it wasn’t going to slip away.
that night, the both of you never left each other's side. sharing glances filled with love and sincerity. embracing each other like a blanket of love. so many "i love you"'s exchanged. this was the start of a love story you would one day share with your kids, a love story that will last forever.

₊˚⊹⋆🍁⋆⊹ Day 4: Sweater weather - Lee Heeseung
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(synopsis) 🍂 heeseung is always there to save you from your coldest moments ₊⊹
lee heeseung x fem!reader 🍂 cursing, mention of past breakup (not with heeseung), toxic ex, petnames, a kiss at the end 🍂 angst with a splatter of fluff 🍂 friends to lovers 🍂 wc 804
masterlist
Tumblr media
it was autumn now, meaning it has officially been a year since your breakup with your toxic ex. you used to love autumn and the way the leaves turned colors but that all changed because of your ex. he broke your heart last autumn when he told you he was just getting with you cause you were a pretty face. your best friend since elementary school, lee heeseung, was absolutely fuming about the whole situation and actually went to go teach your ex a lesson. let’s just say heeseung came back that evening with bruised knuckles and a couple bruises on his face. you didn’t want to question it.
but as the months went on, you started to realize that you would possibly never love again. your trust had been completely destroyed and the thought of even attempting to date another person scared you so bad.
heeseung was always there next to you, making sure that you wouldn’t get hurt anymore. but what you didn’t know was that heeseung had actually been harboring some feelings for you, but he was too afraid to ever confess now that your heart was shattered. but he so desperately wanted to be the person to pick up the delicate little pieces and gently put your heart back together.
“seungie? are you here?” you called out weakly. you just woke up from another nightmare about your ex finding you and tormenting you again, waking up in a cold sweat and your breathing labored. immediately, tears pricked your eyes and you in an defensive instinct, you curled yourself into a ball and cried.
so naturally, you let your feet carry you to your safe place. or—safe person.
“i’m here angel, what’s wrong? did something happen?” heeseung anxiously answered, getting up from his bed and speeding over to you. the two of you shared an apartment since the two of you were like two peas in a pod.
“i-i, i had another nightmare,” you whispered— scared that if you spoke any louder, nothing would come out. “a-about him.” you added.
heeseung’s eyes softened when he looked at you, knowing how shaken up you can get from these nightmares. he opened his arms comfortingly, letting you slowly crumble into his arms.
₊˚⊹⋆🍁⋆⊹
the cold, crisp, autumn air shivered your skin as you and heeseung walked down the streets.
“hey angel? i need to tell you something,” heeseung suddenly stopped walking and turned towards you. you looked up at him, confusion written all over your face.
he led you to a hill of grass in the park, coated with the fallen leaves of the trees.
“i-i, i’ve been waiting for so long to tell you this and i didn’t know the correct timing with everything that has happened in the last year and-” you quickly cut him off, noticing how he was rambling again. he only ever rambled when he was super nervous.
“hee. it’s okay, just tell me, you’re worrying me,” you begged, starting to get truly concerned for your best friend.
“alright. i’ll just say it. i like you.” heeseung blurted. your eyes widened as soon as the words came out of his mouth and for a moment, heeseung swore that this was the end for him. you didn’t like him back and now you would start hating him for confessing to you.
but instead, you smiled at him. a genuine smile. it was really nice to see you smile a real and sweet smile.
“seungie, i like you too…i was just so scared of what happened last time and i know that you would never be like him but i was just…so scared..” you confessed, not being able to look him in the eyes.
“hey hey hey! it’s okay, i promise, i can love you the way you deserve,” he smiled, tilting your chin up with his soft touch. “i’ll treat you so much better angel.”
it was his soft whispers against your lips that made you realize how close he actually was to you.
leaning in softly, you meet heeseung’s lips at the middle. his soft lips meeting yours, the kiss full of soft love and a promise. a promise from heeseung to you, letting you know how much he treasured you.
he was the one who picked up your broken pieces of your heart and mend it back together. you fully trusted him with your life.
when the two of you pulled away breathless, heeseung stared at you lovingly, just basking in this wonderful feeling.
you shivered slightly from the breeze and heeseung was quick to wrap his sweater around you.
you thought that you would hate the cold since it reminded you of the feeling of coldness and emptiness that you ex had left you, but this time, heeseung was there to warm you up.
he had made you love autumn again.

₊˚⊹⋆🍁⋆⊹ Day 1: My royalty - Kim Sunoo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(synopsis) 🍂 it’s now autumn, so, as one does, you and your boyfriend do skincare for the fall ₊⊹
kim sunoo x fem!reader 🍂 petnames, kisses and cuddles 🍂 skincare with sunoo 🍂 cute and short drabble ^3^ 🍂 wc 472
masterlist
Tumblr media
fall was now in the air and the leaves were changing color, meaning only one thing for you and your boyfriend. skincare change. both you and sunoo took skincare VERY seriously and if you missed a day, both of you acted as if your faces would fall off. so, naturally, as the air gets colder and the humidity changes, so does the skincare routines! and today, was the first day of the autumn skincare.
"ynnie!! come quick! i have the masks~" sunoo shouted to you from the bathroom. you were in charge of all the snacks and entertainment while doing the skincare and sunoo was in charge of getting everything out and in order.
"coming!!" you yelled back, dropping off the snacks on the bed and rushing into the bathroom where sunoo was standing there with two pumpkin face masks set out on the table. you both were all cozy in matching autumn pjs and the two of you had just gone out to buy a ton of stuff in preparation for the new change in season. sunoo had a bright, excited smile on his face as both of you very much enjoyed the fall season and the skincare that came with it.
now settling into your bed, with face masks on, you turned on the tv to the new drama you and sunoo had recently been binge watching together. the sheets had been changed to the autumn ones and the usual floral incense that was burning in your room had now been replaced with an apple cider one, making it truly seem like fall.
"cheers to autumn!!" you smiled, raising you cup of hot cocoa to sunoo.
"cheers to autumn, pretty," his eyes holding so much love for you. even though you both looked very silly with the face masks on, sunoo still admired your beauty underneath the mask.
once the masks were off, you both enjoyed putting on each other's routines for each other, laughing every second until your stomachs were both cramping from all the laughter.
"happy autumn, pretty," sunoo said softly, kissing your lips ever so gently, leaving your cheeks slightly dusted with pink.
"happy autumn to you too sun sun," you smiled back, pulling him in for a warm embrace. autumn was your's and sunoo's season. it was the season when you two first got together and overall just a season that held so much meaning to it for you two.
the comfort of sunoo beside you and the autumn smelling candle that was lit right next to your bed just felt so right. the way his arm fit perfectly on you waist and the warmth from his body and the covers over you was just perfect. you were so happy that it was now fall and it was safe to say that the feeling was mutual.
