What? You afraid of little different opinions from your own? The reason you didn’t answer back is because you have no argument carols wasn’t innocent he deserved to die. He had prior criminal records to rape so um you wept for a rapist.

First of all, I was asleep and this is a case I feel strongly about so wanted to give a proper reply. Secondly, he was charged with attempted rape when he cornered his friend’s mother and opened her shirt before running away. Not that that’s okay, I just thought I’d mention the exact charge.

Before we speak about Carlos Hernandez, I’d like to point that the crime scene was completely mishandled. It was a particularly bloody scene with blood throughout the store and out on the forecourt. Inside, Wanda’s flipflops which had come off during the struggle were found behind the counter and a folding knife with its blade exposed was abandoned on the floor nearby. They found shoe prints, a cigarette butt, chewing gum and clumps of hair but these were all overlooked Three fingerprints were found – two on the front door and another on the telephone. However, they were all such poor quality that they were allegedly unusable. There were no fingerprints on the knife. No samples of blood were taken or tested despite the fact that it was probably likely that the killer sustained an injury himself during the frenzied attack. It took less than an hour for the crime scene to be processed. The reason? They were so adamant they had already arrested the killer that they felt there was no need.

There is an abundance of evidence against Carlos Hernandez, who DeLuna named as the killer. He wasn’t identified until after DeLuna was executed but when he was, they decided to come forward and relay their own beliefs that their family member was the killer of Wanda. In fact, Hernandez was well known to police and prosecutors at the time of the trial and had a lengthy police record. He had a long history of violence which included stabbings committed with a knife that was very similar to the one found at the crime scene.

He was in and out trouble with the law throughout his life. In 1971, he was convicted of negligent homicide after he killed his sister’s fiancé while driving drunk. His sentence was suspended and he received no jail time. The following year, he received a 20 year sentence for holding up several gas stations. After just five short years, he was paroled. Then in 1979, Hernandez was arrested for the brutal murder of Dahlia Sauceda, who was found beten an strangled to death in her van. A crude X had also been carved into her body. Hernandez was tied to the crime when his fingerprints were discovered on a beer can inside the van alongside a pair of his boxers. While being held for this crime, Hernandez somehow managed to point the blame towards another man. Prosecutor Ken Botary – who would later be the co-prosecutor in the DeLuna trial – interviewed Hernandez. Furthermore, Hernandez was taken to the interview by Detective Olivia Escobedo, the lead investigator in Lopez’ murder who claimed Hernandez didn’t exist!

Astonishingly, Hernandez was once again released while the other man was acquitted. In 1986, he was re-arrested for the murder of Sauceda after new evidence surfaced. However, the evidence was somehow misplaced and the charges were dropped. Hernandez was once again a free man.

Two months after Lopez’ murder, Hernandez was arrested outside a convenience store with a knife and then several months later, he attacked his wife, Rosa, with an ax handle. During the attack, he smashed a window, shattering glass onto Rosa’s sleeping children. He threatened to kill her and the kids. He was sentenced to just 30 days in jail during which Rosa filed for divorce. In 1989, Hernandez attacked Dina Ybanez with a 7-inch lock-blade buck knife. While he received a ten year sentence, he was paroled after just a year and a half. Then in 1996, he attacked his neighbour with a 9-inch kitchen knife. Three years later, Hernandez died in prison.

The Chicago Tribune not only interviewed Hernandez’s friends and family, but also reviewed thousands of court records. Their findings indicated that the case was compromised by unreliable eyewitness identification, lazy police work and a complete failure to pursue Hernandez as a potential suspect. After all, the police and prosecutors flat out denied he even existed.

The investigation also uncovered that Hernandez had bragged to at least five people about the murder of Lopez as well as the murder of Fahlia Sauceda. Janie Adrian, a neighbour of Hernanfez, told The Chicago Tribune that she had overheard Hernandez talk about stabbing Lopez on at least three occasions.

Dina Ybanez also told the newspaper that Hernandez had confessed to killing Lopez to her and her husband. Both women said that they were too afraid to come forward earlier, particularly Dina, who had been stabbed by Hernandez in the past. She said that during that attack, he had threatened that “he was going to kill me like he did her.” Two other women – Beatrice Tapia and Pricilla Jaramillo – were just young girls when they heard Hernandez confess to the murder. Jaramillo was Hernandez’ cousin and she had been living at Hernandez’ mothers house.

One afternoon, she and Tapia overheard Hernandez speaking to his brother about the murder shortly after it happened. Jaramillo was too terrified to tell anybody about what she had heard because Hernandez had molested her in the past and she was scared of him. The Chicago Tribune also managed to track down Miguel Ortiz, an acquaintance of Hernandez. HE told the newspaper that Hernandez had openly confessed to the murder to him.

The Chicago Tribune even spoke with a former detective named Eddie Garza who said that before the trial, he received tips about Hernandez.

He said that he had heard from informants that Hernandez was openly bragging about the murder. As a detective, Garza knew both DeLuna and Hernandez and said that the crime seemed more like something Hernandez would do, not DeLuna. Garza said that he passed the information on to Olivia Escobedo, the detective leading the investigation. Escobedo, however, claimed she never received such tips. While Garza claims he knew about Hernandez, he still testified at DeLuna’s hearing and told the jury that DeLuna had a bad reputation.

In 2012, The Columbia Human Rights Law Review released a 400-page report which detailed the events of DeLuna’s trial and stated that he had been wrongfully convicted executed. Columbia Law School professor James Liebman and his students had conducted the study as a contribution towards a public debate on the death penalty. They specifically argued that it is an ineffective form of punishment. The group decided on covering the DeLuna case after Liebman did a study on courts across the United States and how they handled legal error.

They tracked down the witness that identified DeLuna while he was sat in the back seat of a dark police car later confessed he was less than 50% sure because “all Hispanics look the same.” He later said he only said DeLuna was the man because officers told them he was. His statement is recorded. There was no evidence against him found inside the store. It was a bloody crime scene yet there was no blood on him.

The Columbia study asserted that it was Hernandez who committed the murder, not DeLuna. “On evidence we pulled together on this case, there is no way a jury could have convicted De-Luna beyond a reasonable doubt, but they could’ve convicted Hernandez beyond a reasonable doubt,” Liebman said.

The Columbia study, which was called “Los Tocayos Carlos,” took five years of investigation to complete. Liebman said that his findings not only show that DeLuna was innocent but that Hernandez was a real person and was guilty of the murder DeLuna was executed for. He wrote that every single thing that could’ve went wrong in a case, did, and that the wrongful arrest of DeLuna was made specifically to avoid departmental embarrassment for the 911 operator not responding to Lopez’s first call for help. The Columbia Study went on to turn their findings into a book named “The Wrong Carlos: Anatomy of a Wrongful Conviction.”

You should read the book and read through all of the evidence that is readily available instead of basing your opinion on the fact that somebody had an attempted rape conviction. If that’s what you’re basing your opinion on then you should look at Hernandez’ history. It’s pretty widely accepted that Carlos DeLuna is innocent and his wrongful execution even led to laws being changed. I would also like to point of if even if DeLuna WAS guilty, I still wouldn’t agree with somebody with an intellectual disability, with the mindset of a child, executed never mind a botched execution.

This isn’t isolated case, either. Three decades have passed since DeLuna was executed but the flaws that condemned him still reverberate in the criminal justice system today - faulty eyewitness testimony, a quick to convict police force, lousy legal representation and withholding of evidence. American is the outlier among industrialized nations and it is the only country in the New World that continues to execute prisoners… Whether or not we agree with it, the death penalty is an extremely flawed system (and racist, biased, hypocritical and archaic) and one that I don’t support.

Analysis

Brandishing a bow with his Conqueror class, Alm is reintroduced as a Legendary Hero. His default version was already a top player phase threat however L!Alm pushes the limits of the ranged hyper offensive unit type. With an incredible statline and powerful personal skills, L!Alm leaves every other offensive archer in the dust.

Alm’s offensive stats clock in at an essentially uncontested 37 Atk and Spd at neutral - only Halloween!Niles and Sue have greater Spd than him and even then Alm has the advantage of higher Atk and uninheritable skills. L!Alm indisputably blows his competition out of the water; from a gameplay standpoint, there would be no reason to invest in any infantry bow other than L!Alm given the option, an instance which we have rarely ever seen, and possibly never to this extent, within any other unit type.

In any case, with even just 14 Mt and +3 Spd, Luna Arc is a potent weapon that plays to L!Alm’s strengths. On top of this it also allows L!Alm to essentially ignore 25% of his opponents’ Def on initiation. This extra damage is also true damage, so even in the rare event that L!Alm would deal 0 damage to his target, he will still apply this extra damage in full. L!Alm also has a personal special, Lunar Flash, which ignores an additional 20% Def and also grants bonus damage scaling with L!Alm’s Spd. To put this into perspective, if L!Alm initiates and activates Lunar Flash, he will deal damage equal to 70% of his opponent’s Def plus 20% of his Spd on top of his base damage; with Luna Arc and Lunar Flash’s Def penetration and true damage, L!Alm defies the typical dynamic between tanks and offensive units. Under the right conditions, he could even ORKO units that he would normally deal 0 damage to without his extra effects.

In addition to his weapon and special, L!Alm also introduces Darting Blow 4, granting +9 Spd in the player phase. Combined with Null Follow-Up, this essentially ensures that L!Alm will double his targets and thus get the most out of Luna Arc’s bonus damage. running a Sacred Seal like Darting Blow 3 or buffing his Spd with allies’ skills will further secure his follow-ups against incredibly fast units. Skills like Wary Fighter and Bowbreaker will be nullified by Null Follow-Up.

Builds

Budget/Low Investment:

Alm has nearly everything he could ask for with his base kit. Read the Analysis section above for a summary of Alm’s strengths and playstyle.

The first build tacks on the Darting Blow Sacred Seal to further boost Alm’s Spd in the player phase. This allows him to initiate with 55 Spd unsupported, enough to double even the fastest units he might face and secure kills against them.

The second build uses Flashing Blade and Desperation to allow for constant Lunar Flash procs, especially while within Desperation’s HP threshold. As mentioned before, Luna Arc and Lunar Flash considerably increase Alm’s damage output, so being able to attack in quick succession while still charging and activating Lunar Flash every round grants his opponents next to no opportunity to respond to his attacks and will most likely be down from those two attacks alone.

Alm’s other Sacred Seal options include Savage Blow, Bond skills, Spd Smoke, Quickened Pulse, and buff skills.

Hyper Offensive (Luna Arc):

These builds capitalize on Luna Arc and Lunar Flash’s deadly combo to mow down opponents in the player phase.

The first build is a continuation of the Flashing Blade + Desperation Build above, using Fury instead of Darting Blow 4. Darting Blow 4′s +9 Spd can often be overkill especially with Alm’s high Spd and the potential for ally support, so using Fury 4 grants much more value for the skill slot with raw stats but also more importantly recoil damage to fall into Desperation’s HP threshold. Running Fury allows this to occur without having to take a hit and is thus a much safer alternative.

The second build uses Special Spiral to essentially always initiate with a charged Lunar Flash on top of 62 Atk with Death Blow 4 and 25% Def penetration with Luna Arc, focusing on Alm’s first hit rather than doubling. To emphasize the power of this build, unsupported, one Lunar Flash proc is enough to deal 42 damage to a unit with 50 Def (12 base damage, 12 bonus damage from Luna Arc, 10 bonus damage from Lunar Flash’s Def penetration, 8 bonus damage From Lunar Flash’s Spd scaling). Running allies/skills that charge Alm’s special at the start of battle, like Infantry Pulse, Quickened Pulse, Ostian Pulse, and Velouria’s Wolfpup Fang, allow Alm to take advantage of this combo from the get-go. Using Hardy Bearing as the Sacred Seal allows Alm to bypass skills like Vantage which may otherwise prevent him from getting away with his one-shot gimmick.

Hyper Offensive (w/o Luna Arc):

While Luna Arc is an incredibly potent weapon, classic archer weapon builds like Brave Bow+ and Firesweep Bow+ suit Alm just as well.

The first build uses Brave Bow+ to allow him to quad slower opponents which may be more useful against units with inflated HP stats, such as in Special Maps. With a Brave Bow+, Alm gains the potential to activate Lunar Flash multiple times per combat, especially if choosing to run Flashing Blade instead of Darting Blow. However, because of Brave Bow+’s Spd penalty, doing so may considerably hinder his ability to quad and may not pass Flashing Blade’s Spd check in the first place.

The second build uses Firesweep Bow+ and Flashing Blade to charge and activate Lunar Flash in every round of combat, similar to the Desperation build with Lunar Arc. This build has the benefit of being able to avoid counterattacks without an HP threshold/requirement and can also run Null Follow-Up at the same time, bypassing Wary Fighter or Bowbreaker effects.

noemi and faust aren’t ready to get their own place, but fate forces their hands. with a bank account barely above the red, faust stores their stuff in her car and sleeps in noemi’s dorm room. the gaudy purchase of barely legal tinted windows proves more useful than frivolous. dj placentagram attracts a modest local audience and she makes enough, but the constant late nights and stress of a move take their toll. noemi loses her scholarship when her grades slip. her parents are supportive, but they don’t have the kind of cash to cover tuition. it’s time for her to find a job and since she has to wait until fall rolls around to repeat the semester, she’s got a lot of free time.

the job market is rough. noemi has no experience short of an ‘in progress’ underneath her education section. the entirety of her resume gushes with inexperience. the unemployment office is a crapshoot and most days are spent lounging in sweats, cruising craigslist for job offers. faust takes care of the bills in the meantime, but it’s nowhere near enough to save for tuition. they move out of the dorms with her salary, find a pretty good apartment too. one morning after a big event, faust finds a small, windblown cat by the trashcans. she is the color of smoke and soot; the couple name her belial, clean her up, and initiate her into the family. the apartment begins to feel like home.

faust beams at noemi over the somber reminder of her mother on the coffee table. it’s a cold, november day and the family pozole recipe steams up noemi’s glasses as she lists off her craigslist prospects for the day. she’s particularly excited about a position at a salon that boasts she’ll be making $400 a day after being trained. faust jokes that anything’s better than another fake modeling gig and noemi agrees. she sets up a meeting for later that week.

the details of the meeting are lost on faust. things that matter? noemi has a smile on her face when she comes back, flashing fresh pressies and the tentative explanation that the wages are tips only. she tacks on quickly that most of the girls say they pull in plenty to live off of with that. several of them are single moms and noemi swears that they were all wearing designer jeans, rocking fresh manicures, and boasted of the job seeming more like a family than anything else. in hindsight, faust can recall every red flag no matter how small. they should have known better. besides, they remember noemi reassuring them, it’s like super safe. she’d seen some guys working security in there and some of the girls even live in the condos above the place. maybe there’s a hint of willful desperation in her girlfriend’s voice; faust knows she’s tired of struggling and if it turns out a mess, it’s only until the semester starts back again in the fall.

the edges of the dream begin to chip, but are hardly noticeable at first. like noemi’s manicures, the woman gets good at filling in spaces. faust’s following becomes a bit more substantial. sometimes they make it out of inglewood to spin records. it takes her away from home more than she’d like, but she doesn’t notice the difference until they starts returning to an untouched bed, a hungry kitten, and a house that smells cold.

noemi is evasive, distant. the stars in her eyes have gone dim; there’s a fog that obscures them. an occasional cold night alone becomes a string, a constellation. on the surface, faust bubbles. they are wrath and it comes out in their music; people fell in love with them for the fire, but destruction turns those very people away. fear makes a hearty tinder. noemi doesn’t pick up her calls; noemi’s number gets disconnected. the fear grows, fertilized by volcanic ash. faust makes better fires.

francisco is back from his tours and he’s strong and loved by her parents outloud ( unlike the infrequent texts of check-ins papa sends here, afraid of their mother’s wrath more than faust’s ). after faust goes the the address on the fridge and finds no trace of a salon, they arrive on his doorstep with a cat carrier in their hands and the request for a gun. soldiers always have guns and big brothers like francisco never learned to say no to a lip pout and a crocodile tear. faust still sees him as the boy who cried at the fox and the hound; he is the man who facilitates her deal with the devil. he teaches them the ins and outs of the sig sauer p226. he doesn’t ask them what they’re doing when he helps them file the serial number; he’s noted noemi’s absence.

heart in her throat, she’s almost choking to the beat of her own pulse. the sound of paper burning goes unnoticed, beneath the car stereo as she smokes to calm her nerves. i ain’t a killer, but don’t push me, she agrees, revenge is like the sweetest joy next to gettin’ pussy. her hands shake against the steering wheel as she drives the streets searching for noemi. she’d know her anywhere, but the shock of her appearance makes the track skip a beat ( or maybe it’s just her heart as she holds her breath ). she lets the engine purr to life and hangs back for a few blocks until she finds her girl’s destination and takes a mental note of the address. the patches on the leather vests are burned into her mind. she’ll be back several times before she makes her move; each time she’ll lose her dinner in the same parking lot on her way back to their apartment. each night she’ll fall asleep alone. at least for now, belial is better off with her brother.

after days of staking out the property, faust in convinced that noemi resides there permanently. for the first time in her life, faust prayed to the virgin mary. she prayed to the stars in the sky. she prayed to the devil. if nothing else, she hoped she could at least make it out with noemi alive. it’s easy to take out the first men. with her slinky slip dress, fishnet tights and combat boots, they think it’s a gag–she’s a new girl or something. women are commoditized; their agency is robbed of them. male hubris blinds them from the consideration that the beautiful woman might actually be serious. the realization burrs itself into their heads in the shape of a bullet. twice. after the first two, it’s easy. it’s like playing call of duty with francisco and she pushes the stark depravity of the easiness deep inside herself. if she is to save noemi, she has to let go of human decency. her mother’s voice tells her not to stoop to their level, but it’s precisely the level she needs to be a hero and faust doesn’t give a shit about being a hero. she gives a shit about getting her girlfriend back.

when she comes upon noemi, she is shocked by her appearance. the warm, shining girl is dull and timid. she lowers her guard and gun, speaking softly to traces of the woman she loved. distracted, faust is tackled by one of the girls who busts her nose with a mean right hook. something sparks within noemi and she clocks the girl over the head with faust’s estranged glock. the two depart on shaky legs to the car and drive to the beach where they watch the sun rise together; shoulders barely touching, feet buried beneath the sand. faust does not make a move to touch her despite her greater urges to wrap her arms so tightly around her that she’d leave impressions in her skin like those left behind by bras and tights and too-tight socks.

reunited at least, noemi tells faust the truth about her dehumanizing work with delicate fingers shakily wrapped around a mug of hot tea. she flinches at the gentlest touch and faust knows their relationship will never be the same. noemi will never be the same. her nails are still pristine, but the hands they belong to are weathered; she has been through hell. whatever money she earned, it was not hers and it never reached her belly. they spend the next several months healing. maite makes them meals and sends them to the house with francisco and jaime connects with noemi’s parents to pay their bills . no one asks or prods. no one hovers or pushes or smothers–least of all faust, who stays up late nights with a gun in her hand, gaze hard on the locked apartment door. they don’t even see the murders on the news; neither girl knows what that means.

when noemi slowly begins to leave the apartment and build her confidence, faust is proud. it’s a slow process, but eventually she is able to function on most days. she goes to therapy, but never gets into specifics. she still screams in her sleep most nights, but she lets faust hold her close. dj placentagram returns to her work, but her following has taken a hit. still, it feels good to make her own money again.

on one bright day, noemi tells her of running into an old friend–one of the girls who didn’t make it out that dark night. they are both unsurprised that the girls they’d left behind were still suffering. it makes her blood boil and she can see an old flicker in noemi’s eyes. faust recognizes it in her–the need for blood to fill old wounds–a baptism in vengeance. they make a new trip to francisco’s friend; they make a deal for more guns. noemi has her revenge with faust close at her side. the two of them earn a reputation for the second set of executions and they realize that there is a lot of trash worth taking out.

crime doesn’t pay; but vigilantism sure does. the girls make a mint turning over the more nefarious characters in the city. they don’t hit up small time dealers. blood runs down hill just like shit; they cut the heads of serpents and leave the scales alone. it starts to get dangerous for the girls; people know las sirenas. people prepare for these stunning shooters who rob the robbers. they’re no saints and they don’t play at sainthood. faust knows they are devils, but evil is stronger than neutrality and she never thought too much of moral fiber.

nobody asks the girls how they support themselves; both families know they’ve been through hell and back. things are broken inside and between them, but broken things still work if you can find a new function for them. families can still work–relationships can still work–if you turn them into something new. they are baptised in blood; their wishing stars are diamond studs in earlobes. some days they hold hands like the old days, but things are still broken–they are still new.

violence can change a person. noemi finds her vengeance, but faust can’t stop. what once bound them, now divides them, and noemi finds herself back in school. their lifestyles no longer compatible, the two grow apart, but there is no love lost. still, the time between reunions grows and grows until noemi has found love again and faust has given up turntables for contracts on heads.

Final 16 Set In Vegas For The WPA Players Championship

(Las Vegas)–The Philippines’ Johann Chua pretty much knew his run in the WPA Players Championship was over. Playing in a round of 32 match against Hall of Famer Mika Immonen and down 6-2 in a race to 7 alternate break match, there was little chance for the talented Filipino to come back.

But the pool gods started to conspire against the great Finn, and Chua slowly clawed his way into contention. As that happened, Immonen clearly began to lose his composure, which only imbued the Filipino with confidence.  Chua tied the match at 6, sending proceedings into overtime, where he won the next two to advance 8-6.

“I saw him getting frustrated when I started to come back and that gave me a lot of confidence,” a relieved Chua said afterward. “Once he started to miss and give up the table, I knew I was back in the match. I’m very happy to advance.”

As 16 pool stars moved on at Griffs Billiards in Vegas, and 16 others got the boot, the WPA Players Championship moved to the business end for the final two days. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, with the semis and finals being contested on Friday.

The Philippine contingent continued to impress in the $65,000 event.  2017 WPA World 9-ball champion Carlo Biado dueled with the USA’s Skylar Woodward, with the pair of stars splitting the first 10 racks. Biado then took advantage of a lucky safe and advanced with a 7-5 win.

“I got lucky,” Biado said, echoing the favorite line of the always humble Filipino greats. But as he well knew in this case, he wasn’t just being polite.

Hot shooting 26 year old James Aranas and Raymond Faroun also won, giving Filipinos 25% of the spots in the final 16.

The USA’s Shaun Wilkie continued to impress with his second straight convincing victory today. Wilkie took down Japan’s Toru Kuribayashi 7-5 to grab a spot in the final 16. The only other American to take his place in the final 16 was Shane Van Boening, after a 7-5 win over Poland’s Wojciech Szewczyk.

The Taiwanese contingent equaled that of their neighbors in east Asia as four Taiwan players advanced to the final 16. Kevin Cheng, Ko Ping Chung, Chang Yu Lung and veteran Yang Ching Shun all won their round of 32 matches.

Scotland’s Jayson Shaw put in another convincing performance, taking down the Philippines Jeff de Luna, 7-2. Albania’s Elkent Kaci went toe to toe with New Zealand’s resurgent Matt Edwards, before pulling away for a 7-5 win. Greece’s Nick Malaj and hall of famer Ralf Souquet also advanced.

Play in the WPA Players Championship continues on Thursday at 12 noon local time.

The format will be single elimination race to 7 (win by 2), with the semi-final and final being a race to 9 (win by 2).
