she had been back at work for a week now, working short hours in the clinic, checking on post-ops, different small tasks that lexie could do within the bounds of a wheelchair. she hadn’t expected coming back to easy, she also didn’t expect this emotionally taxing. she hadn’t expected making a page for a plastics consult, to having jackson alone answering it, to bring such a rush of emotions. she didn’t expect to find herself in an on-call room because on top of all of the things physical things she was going though it hit her, just how gone mark really was, just how much she missed him. how much it all hurt. 

what she wasn’t planning on on was someone walking into the on-call room, to walk in on her breaking down, tears streaming down her face. “ callie- ” her voice cracked as she made a poor attempt to wipe away tears. “ i’m- i- ” lexie searched for the words to voice what she was feeling. “ i miss him, ” she started, her voice soft and shaking. “ i just- i’d trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday. i’d give- i’d give anything to just talk to mark one more time. ”
