Mel: Well, Niles, it occurred to me that if we end things now, people will wonder why—when, you know, we've been so happy. So I've decided that it's not so much that I'm going to leave you, as you're going to drive me away. 

Niles: How? 

Mel: Through a series of staged events, in which you will thoroughly humiliate yourself by playing the part of a complete ass. For instance, this weekend we're going to the opera. 

Niles: Ah, I see, I see. So you want me to hog the opera glasses and remain seated during the ovation, something of that nature. Well, I suppose I could manage it. 

Mel: No, not quite. At the intermission, invariably some board member will come over to say hello, and I want you to fly into a jealous rage and throw a drink at him. 

Niles: That is unthinkable! I have a reputation in this town and nothing will make me behave that way. 

Niles [after a long pause]: I'll see you at Schwanda, der Dudelsackpfeifer.

IT’S A REAL OPERA, YOU GUYS.

The original Czech title is Švanda dudák. The show’s use of the German title was likely for giggles, but it was the name given to a German translation of the libretto by Max Brod. David Hyde Pierce just says “die” instead of “der”.

Divadelní léto pod plzeňským nebem 2020 *...a začínáme od aurory, aneb opětovně jsem využila kupóny a koupila lístky na Švandu. Jsem ráda, že aspoň jeho si užijeme a že patříme k tě šťastlivcům co budou moc jít. Tak snad už se nic nepokazí a vše bude. #divadelniletozachranujeleto  Teď hlavně budu doufat v dobrá místa. Divadelní léto pod plzeňským nebem 2020 * Jakmile mi dnes přišel email o možnosti koupi lístků, tak jsem ani nezaváhala a hned nakupovala. Jako každý rok se nemohu dočkat. Divadelní léto pod plzeňským nebem 2019 - Švanda dudák 1. 7. Švanda dudák 12. 7. Cyrano 23. 7. Cyrano 24. 7. Cyrano 25. 7. Cyrano 26. 7. (minulý rok jsem Cyrana navštívila 2x, tak��e celkem 6x a pokaždé to stálo za to) *I letos "Divadelní léto" bylo skvělé a až na jedno propršené představení vyšlo i počasí. I když i v dešti má své divadlo kouzlo a člověk na něj jen tak nezapomene. Osobně se mi Cyrano líbil víc jak Švanda a podle mě byl o chlup lepší... ale to spíš je ovlivněno mými vlastními preferencemi. Pokud se nic nepokazí, tak bych zas ráda příští rok znovu zašla na Švandu a i na novou hru na kterou se nemohu dočkat.
