The Sylas game is gonna drop earliest this spring!

But sad Chronobreak isn’t gonna come out first since it was announced 3 years ago but that’s prolly a sign that it’s gotta lot of time, love, and work into it?

interesting to me is that the game is titled “the Mageseeker” when Sylas is the main star here, you’d assume they would name it more related after himself. Though I guess it’s not uncommon for games to be named after their bosses/enemies either.

I guess it’d also serve as a cool multi-meaning though since, in-game, Sylas will be also building his revolution and finding fellow mages to rally to him. In a way, he is a ‘mageseeker.” A bit of irony (?) in that sense that that kind of title, of his greatest kind of enemy, would technically apply to him. But it could also be a (hint? joke? can’t find the word) to Sylas’ more villainous traits that’ll probably get spotlighted here, maybe drawing a comparison between him and the mageseekers and the way they can command fear in the Demacian people. Maybe a character will spit that title to Sylas, probably gonna be real insulting to him, to show their contempt of him. From an enemy or a fellow rebel, we’ll have to wait.

Everyone’s kinda hoping that the game will handle the Demacian Mage Riot storyline better this time, and probably yes, but I feel the story is inevitably gonna make a lot a people mad. You got the folks that love Demacian characters and will be upset if the game goes too far in “Demacia bad” or casting champs as complicit, but you also reeaally don’t want the game to side with the “actually, the mages should’ve just asked really nicely. that way the demacians will see how wrong they were and be super cool abt it“ because like???? ???

On to more (bngygbbrfv?) topics. What I didn’t expect was that it’d use pixel art! It didn’t look like that from the trailer since it was far away and viewed on a glass shard in the Forge video, but the description is clear. I’ve got the Hades bias since I think that that games style could serve really nicely, but I’ve also heard that the video snippet makes it look a bit like Wizard of Legend which is also very swag.

Oh god I just realized this but like what if like Poppy’s gonna be a boss? I’m not really sure how uhh aware she even is of the whole political situation in Demacia, if like, at all? But if she is a boss she’ll probably see Sylas breakin stuff and burning down some fancy houses and be like :0 hey dude that’s not very nice or smthng and then they fight idk. Since she’s supposed to like come over when Demacia’s in danger and Sylas at the height of his power would count as dangerous.

On that note, I also hope that the game will also elaborate on how yordles view living in Demacia. Poppy’s a little disconnected from the actual kingdom since she’s focused searching for the hero and stuff, but what about the other lil guys that show up in the LoR cards? They are magical spirits. Like are we gonna do the thing where yordles are considered an exception as long as they’re not using any magic powers, or like they’re kinda self hating magic and stuff, or maybe we’ll go the route where they’re not really considered inherently magical but just like a buncha small animal people that culturally lean towards magic since that’s where their city’s in. Iirc they made is so that Heimer in arcane was that last one, but I’m not actually sure where I heard it from, whoops. God. I don’t like the idea of glamour but wouldn’t it be funny if one of the characters is like really important to contributing the themes of the story gets revealed they’re a yordle, “huh” moment, and everyone goes on with it cuz like?? what am I even saying th? there are implications of yordles in Demacia ig but also I can’t really think of them cuz it’s like 2 am here blarghghghegegeghh

my answer to both is the same: it's a procrastination medium and a coping mechanism :D (i read somewhere that hurt/comfort is just projecting your hurt onto a character, and then trying to reverse-project the comfort onto yourself, which... sounds about right)

i wrote the beginning of an Arcane time travel AU, where Ekko chronobreaks to the beginning of the show and fixes everything.

But he doesn't really have a character to anchor him to the past (Powder? Benzo? his anchor would be the firelights, but we don't find out much about them, so.) and I just, didn't know where to aim the emotional attachment I need as a basis off of which I write scenes.

Arcane Background Lore/Easter Eggs (Episode 7)

And we’re back, after I have had a day to process act 3; and definitely not cause I was busy writing caitvi fanfiction. Spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned.

The firelights symbol is an hourglass rotated 45 degrees to the right, hourglasses figure a lot into Ekko’s aesthetic (as does elements of hip hop culture), and I’m kinda kicking myself over missing this give-away for who was leading the firelights.

Animal people like this character have shown up a few times. They’re called “Vastaya”, and to cut a very long story short: They are the descendants of humans who merged with spirits thereby getting animal-like features and a natural affinity for (spirit) magic. A lot of Vastaya tribes have a tree as a gathering point at the center of the village which might be where Ekko got the idea.

The back of Ekko’s jacket appears to be inspired by the aesthetics of the  “Giants” music video (seen below).

Actually his entire firelights outfit might be based off his “True Damage” outfit (the one he wears in Giants), the silhouette at least fits very well.

The cannister Ekko carries the Hex gem in looks strikingly similar to his Z-drive from League – Basically it’s a gadget that allows him to travel about 10 seconds backwards in time.

I wanna give a shoutout to whoever decided to change Ekko’s hair from straight to curly, his mohawk looks so fucking good with locs.

In the “Seconds” trailer Ekko is protecting a mural similar to this one from a rampaging chemtech monster (similar to Silco’s goons).

Also, the character on the far left, might be a mashup of a bunch of different rejected concept arts for Ekko, but I’m not 100% sure on that one.

I might be overanalyzing, but the big flower in the background of the room where Silco meets with the chem barons, look very similar to the ones grown by Baroness Corina Veraza (Seen below).

Since Caitlyn’s nemesis is yet to make an appearance, this might (or might not) be a hint to who’s going to take oveer now that Silco is gone.

In League Ekko wields a cricket bat as his main weapon, however this sorta “gear shillelagh” actually showed up in more of his concept art than his bat did.

The flashback play fight is an (imo) very clever way to reference Ekko’s “Chronobreak” ability from League, without needing to actually introduce time travel as a plot element. As I mentioned earlier: in League Ekko carries a device  which allows him to travel short periods backwards in time. In the “Seconds” trailer, we see him use it just like he does here: try an approach, die, learn from his mistakes and try again.

Also Ekko and Jinx’ fight mirrors very closely how a fight between them usually plays out in League: Jinx tries to kill him before he can get close, Ekko dashes around her shots, and once he gets in close knocks her out within seconds. A duel between Ekko and Jinx is heavily stacked in Ekko’s favor, with clever use of her grenades being Jinx’s only real chance of winning.

With how much I’ve been hyping up Corina, it seems only fair I properly introduce her at the end of a post; even if she’s not playable in league. She’s a Zaun crime lord with a love for poisonous flowers. She made friends with Caitlyn and posed as an informant in Caitlyn’s own investigation of her, feeding her false leads to play her out against her rivals. Just think of the angst potential when Caitlyn inevitably realizes she has become to Corina what Marcus was to Silco.

Ekko

alright i said i would make a 101 guide for some of the Arcane characters and im going to start with the one im most familiar with

if yall like this let me know and ill do some more for some of the other arcane characters for now Ekko: the boy who shattered time

starting with a general overview

Ekko is an AP based assassin, that means he has high magic damage and mobility, but little in the way of survivability, hes not going to last long in a straight up fight, is a hit and run play style, get in, get enough hits to pop his passive, and then get back out again

and now his abilities

Ekko's passive is Z-Drive Resonance every time ekko damages an enemy by any means they get one stack of resonance, at 3 stacks the resonance clears and you get a bonus hit of magic damage on your target, but then that target cant gain new stacks of resonance for a few seconds, if you pop it on a champion you also get a small boost to your movement speed.

this is going to be your primary means of dealing damage to enemies, being an AP character your basic attacks arnt going to do much on their own, this gives you a decent chunk of bonus damage relatively frequently, and the bonus to movement speed will help you get away afterwords

Ekko's Q is Timewinder, you throw out a projectile that deals damage as it passes, once it reaches its limit or hits a champion it will open up and continue forward, while in this state it will slow any near by enemies, after a little bit it will then rush back to you dealing a second hit to any enemy it passes through.

the damage from time winder is pretty nice, so long as you can get it to hit twice, plus it will apply a stack of resonance with each hit it makes helping you to get off the passive damage more consistently, early on the first hit will deal more damage then the returning hit, but the returning hit has better scaling so it will quickly outpace it

Ekko's W is Parallel Convergence and this one is a bit complicated, , you'll fire a ball at an area, for a few seconds before the ball hits you will be given vision in that area, once the ball lands it will cover the whole area with a slow effect for a few more seconds, then if you step within the area before the effect wears off the slow effect will pop, stunning all enemies inside and giving you a decent shield

Parallel Convergence also has a passive effect, giving bonus magic damage to your basic attacks if the enemy is at less then 30% health remaining

the stun is long and the shield is big, but the delay makes it hard to use, you need to keep enemy and ally positioning in mind and fire the ball where you think you will need it in about 5 seconds or so, not to where you need it now, if you can get this off consistently it will be your best tool, just be very mindful of the delay, the bonus damage is a nice addition as well, helping you to secure those kills in a pinch

Ekko's E is Phase Dive this is probably the most straight forward of his abilities, ekko dashes in a direction and then gains a buff for a few seconds, the first attack he makes after the dash will teleport him to his target and give him bonus magic damage on the hit

keep in mind the secondary attack teleport is longer then the first dash by quite a bit, this makes the a fantastic chasing tool, but not so useful to get away, but remember you can still attack minions to get the second teleport if you need to in a pinch, also Phase Dive resets the timeing on ekko's basic attacks so you can use it to hit faster then you normally would, once with the right timeing, not a major bonus but every little bit helps so you should try to get the timeing down

last but certainly not least, ekko's ult Chronobreak you get a little ghost that trails behind you showing where you were 4 seconds ago, when you use your Ult you teleport back to where you were 4 seconds ago dealing magic damage in an area around you and healing based on how much damage you took in the last 4 seconds

a few things to keep in mind here, 1 you dont reset the health you lost, just that the healing scales with how much damage you were dealt in that time, you'll pretty much always be at less health then you were actually at 4 seconds ago, but you will still be healed if you didn't take any damage, the AOE damage you deal is pretty substantial too, its tempting to try using this to escape, which you can do, but more often then not you want your past ekko to be right where the battle is happening so you can deal damage to the enemies when you rewind

thats a solid pass at the basics one last thing, items

im not going to go over every item that you might want to consider, honestly what you should build depends on your team comp, the enemy team comp, and the currant state of the match, but i will mention any times i think are must haves on a champion, in this case i think ekko only has 1 must have

zhonya's hourglass, it gives you some good stats for ekko, but the main reason you want it is for the active, when you activate the hourglass you stop in your tracks, unable to move or do anything for a few seconds but becoming completely invulnerable.

most champs use it to escape masive damage that they otherwise couldn't avoid, you can do that too, but ekko has a second use for it, in dire straights you can drop your W on yourself and hit the hourglass, locking you in place and keeping you safe hopefully long enough to pop the shield/stun, this combo can turn around a bad fight in an instant.

and that's all the advice i have for you for the time being, now you have a small leg up on other new players, good luck and have fun. and let me know if you want a rundown on any of the other arcane champs

Ekko has no biological siblings, older or younger. Yet many of his favorite people in the world make him think that must be what having siblings feels like. Vi had always been his big sister, since he was a little boy getting in trouble with Powder or getting too dirty to be sent straight home without being hosed down first. But there are others that, though their relationship may have been formed later, and despite how different it is from his bond with Vi, give him that same feeling: this is what having siblings must be like.

It was the case with most of True Damage, perhaps due to the age difference. Senna was more motherly than sisterly, truth be told, the responsible one that kept them all in line; but Qiqi and Kali were his sisters too, and if anyone felt like an older brother, it was certainly Yasuo. Acted like it, too, always trying to keep him in line, to prevent Ekko from taking idiotic risks, to give him a good example, and scold him when needed. Or when Yasuo thought it was needed. Ekko would disagree 99% of the time.

With the closeness, comes familiarity; and with it, too much freedom. It has been a long time since Ekko felt hesitant at all to show up at Yasuo's place, or even to get there before the DJ would be home. It's not just his place, of course, but that doesn't bother the young rapper. Yone is pretty cool too — and he imagines if Yasuo makes for a cool big brother, part of it also comes from the example of his own older brother.

They don't often get the chance to talk, Ekko always too busy with Yas or True Damage stuff, Yone always mindful to give them space. But today Yasuo isn't here yet (geez, why is it so hard for everyone else to be on time?); and he finds Yone a little more intimidating without his brother present.

"Hey," The returned greeting is casual, a slight nod accompanying it. At the mention of how long it'd still take Yasuo to be back, Ekko can't help but snort. "Did he always make a habit of bein' late, or was that only after he became a fancy famous DJ?"

The humorous question becomes a half-smile. He's used to it, truth be told — to people trying to look after him like that. And Ekko doesn't need it, sure, but so long as they respect him when it counts (when it's his music or his ideas he speaks of), then people fussing over his well-being was no issue at all.

Besides, dad would be furious if he heard he had been rude to someone only trying to be kind.

And he was a little hungry, thinking about it.

"Ah — man, I totally forgot. We're workin' on new stuff, you see — I get a little carried away sometimes." Ekko scratches the back of his head, somewhat embarrassed laughter accompanying the gesture. "But I don't wanna bother you with that, so don't worry, I can just get takeout or something. Thanks for the reminder, Yone."

There's music he digs, no matter how different from his kind of sound, and there's music he doesn't, but that Ekko can still respect as good work. He's no Pentakill fan, but he wouldn't deny they pop off in everything they do; there's soul in it, not just premade bullshit meant to sell.

Which is more what he thinks of Ezreal's bubblegum pop shit, truth be told.

Heartsteel debuted with a bang, and a deserved one at that; though Ezreal's career started before, with a far less impressive type of music. But hey — he had been really polite. Wouldn't do to not answer in kind; Ekko had been raised better than that, no matter what people may presume based on his humble origins.

"Thanks, man," Crossed arms as he leans against the wall, a half smile playing upon his lips. No matter what other people think, Ekko is always proud of his work with True Damage; it is nice to have it acknowledged either way, though he does wonder if the pretty boy genuinely likes it. "Wouldn't have figured it's your kinda sound."

"Paranoia is pretty dope too," He admits, not prompted purely by politeness. Was it all there was to it, Ekko would just have said nothing. "You guys killed it."
