After much debate, I've decided to make Misha's birthday June 22nd, 1879 ! He's officially a Cancer because Cancer really fits him to a T.

Deeply intuitive and sentimental, Cancer can be one of the most challenging zodiac signs to get to know. They are very emotional and sensitive, and care deeply about matters of the family and their home. Cancer is sympathetic and attached to people they keep close. Those born with their Sun in Cancer are very loyal and able to empathize with other people's pain and suffering.

          Okay but can we talk about the fact Misha was SO DESPERATE for his brother to love him that he actually put aside his grudge of Vanitas killing Luna for a second and offered his hand to him ? He actually went ‘ this fighting is stupid, let’s just work together to bring Father back so we can be happy again ‘. He cares for Vanitas so so much it HURTS. He cared so much that he put aside all this pain and trauma he suffered for YEARS after Luna’s death just to try to convince his brother to BE with him. He swore to never forgive Vanitas and yet he actually DID just because he wanted his family back that badly ?

          GOD MISHA DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER. 😭

╰ ☾ ☆ * : ･ ⁞ — ˗ˏˋ Also just to add to Misha pain. This is more of a meta / something I noticed.

╰ ₊° ☆ . ⊹     ˗ˏˋ Right after Misha was rescued by the chasseurs ( only to be taken to the labs ), he still had visible bruising on his cheeks / his neck. Granted, it was only scratches ( though still a lot of them ) in the anime but the anime also DID tone down the abuse. Regardless, Misha's mother definitely either struck Misha around his neck at minimum. Worse, she was strangling this literal toddler.

╰ ₊° ☆ . ⊹     ˗ˏˋ The most upsetting thing is that Misha is still so deeply in denial about the abuse he faced with his mother and he still NEVER hated her. He'd still rather blame it on demons or whatever imaginary monster he can come up with than accept how terrible she was.

╰  ☾  ☆ * : ･   ⁞    —     ˗ˏˋ                Misha actually suffers from MEMORY LAPSES as a result of his accident after becoming Luna’s kin. Sometimes, he has trouble remember things / what he was doing / where he puts things a bit more than he used to before the incident. He WOULD try to do more about it like keep lists and other organizational tools but he’s afraid of losing said things and people finding out what he’s doing.

                Eventually he will remember ( even if it’s a bit too late sometimes ), but he still CAN’T remember what happened the day his Father died.

MUSE FAVORITES :  PREFERENCES

✧ Animal: Misha is generally really fond of animals regardless of what they are. He and his family never stayed settled in one place for very long as they were on a fruitless search for a way to save him and his brother from death. However, they always tended to stay in places tucked far away from both humanity and vampires such as forests or on the outskirts of towns. Misha would come to interact with all sorts of forest creatures and try to play with them ( Much to Vanitas’ dismay and stress ) so he usually really likes them. He didn’t have a particular FAVORITE animal until he got his service ( robot ) dog from the Comté. Now he wants a house full of PUPPIES.

✧ Flowers: He gravitates towards blue and white flowers, his favorite being WHITE PEONIES as they greatly resemble the Astérisque flowers. Of course, his REAL favorite are actual Astérisque flowers. Those flowers however are much rarer, only blossoming in areas where the world formula was rewritten. He witnessed the Astérisque flowers bloom before his very eyes at one point where Luna saved him and Vanitas from a particularly dangerous malnomen. He always associated those flowers with his FATHER’S PROTECTION from that point on.

✧  Scent: His absolute favorite scent is the scent of BAKERIES ! Like the smell of sugar and sweet dough turning into desserts in the oven. Bakeries are one of his favorite places to go because they smell like home when his brother would bake desserts.

✧ Coffee: He’s too young for that but if he did get his hands on coffee, he would find it way too bitter and dump so much MILK, SUGAR, AND CREAM into it that’s not even coffee anymore. It’s just sugary milk.

✧ Tea: He likes lighter and milder teas like Thé au Lait, tea with milk along with other cream teas.

✧ Drink: Basically anything warm and comforting like MILK, TEA, HOT CHOCOLATES, etc are drinks that he would enjoy. In terms of cold drinks, he likes fresh fruit juices as that was a drink he and his family would make on hot summer days. He'll take the processed junk if he has to but it's not as nice.

✧ Alcohol:      

✧ Food: He'll basically eat anything his brother cooks. His preferences are what the French would consider ‘ COMFORT FOOD ‘; soups, potatoes, and cheese mainly. He likes croque monsieurs and most traditional french soups like french onion soup, coq au vins, etc. Good luck trying to get him to eat vegetables though.

✧ Clothing: His favorite sorts of clothing are SNUGGLY WARM CLOTHING like the outfits he wore while he was with Luna. He also likes wearing blue and black like his brother. In the earlier days of his time with Comté when he thought the Comté was nice, he actually asked for a similar outfit to his brother, hence the outfit he’s wearing in canon.

✧ Candy: Not really a candy but he likes BLUEBERRY MACARONS ! He’ll take other flavors but of course he likes the blue one the best.

✧ Left or Right Handed?: He’s right - handed which is the ONLY good thing about losing his left arm. At LEAST it wasn’t his right. Naturally, it took him a long time to get used to his prosthetic and even longer to figure out how to properly use the dagger attached to it because he was never left handed in the first place.

✧ Sloppy or Neat Writing?: Oh, his handwriting is AWFUL. 

✧ Clean or Messy Home?: Being a child, he does tend to be on the MESSIER side. However, he never had very many material possessions TO be messy with so it wasn’t that big of a deal keeping the house clean even with him around.

✧ Shower in Morning or Night?: Usually, he bathes midday or night considering how dirty he gets from being outside so much ( and living in a falling apart forest cathedral in the present ). It’s not uncommon to encounter him with DIRT AND DUST on his skin. Though, he does make sure he’s CLEAN AND PROPER before he goes to Paris.

✧ Tasks Done Early or Last Minute?: It depends. Misha’s life never really had ANY structure or stability. The most stable his life has been was his time with Luna and Vanitas and even then, they were constantly moving. Misha isn’t the best at time management as he never really acquired the skill hence why he has his pocket watch to help him keep track of things. Sometimes if things are really boring and menial, he WILL wait the last minute and spend his time running around Paris. However, if things are important or his anxiety gets to him, he’ll do it too early. He tries his best.

✧ Love Language?: His main love language is PHYSICAL AFFECTION ! Things like hugs and kisses and cuddles ! Physical affection was the only way he really could convey love aside from words for most of his life. He didn’t have very many toys and the conditions he lived/lives in were hardly even livable; especially for a small child. His favorite things in the world are things that are warm and gentle so he tries to be warm and gentle to those he loves. Physical affection was something that was always DENIED to him by his mother as well and the only concept of a ‘ mother’s touch ‘ he had was physical abuse; so to those he absolutely loves and trust, he’ll try to give them the things that HE was denied.

There’s also other little shows of affection he has too such as inviting people to play with him / spend time with him and giving them gifts ( ie drawings or tiny little trinkets he finds in Paris given he really can’t afford much but it’s the thought that counts ). He actually does have a lot of LOVE to give but unfortunately not much of an outlet or anyone TO give it to.

Due to his past with the brothel as well as his present mannerisms of either being manipulative to get what he wants or just trying to stay out of trouble, he tends to PRETEND to reciprocate things such as kindness well. On the other hand, he’s also been denied LOVE and AFFECTION from those who were meant to care for him the most so he’s lonely and desperate for someone to accept him.

               At the same time, he’s been USED for the greater majority of his life either by his mother to gain monetary profits, the doctors who experimented on him, and the Comté who is currently using him for his own gains, he can’t help but hold a heavy DOUBT in his mind about the ulterior motives of the other person. He’s just not used to kindness; not when the only people who gave true, genuine love to him are GONE.

          Violently thinks about how DEDICATED Misha is to his family. Like he loves both Vanitas and Luna so, so much; he would do ANYTHING for them.

          Both Luna and Vanitas made becoming the Kin of the Blue Moon out to be this TERRIBLE thing which it is. Luna of course, knew of the consequences of becoming their kin; knew that it would extend Misha and Vanitas’ lives but still doom them to a slow and painful fate of being rewritten and essentially rob them of their HUMANITY. And of course, Vanitas’ at the time was still wary of vampires and wanted to remain human to the very end. 

          But Misha. MISHA on the other hand had no idea what any of this entailed or how dangerous it was; just that it was a bad thing that Luna didn’t want to resort to to save his life. He didn’t even CARE what would happen to him. He still said yes. He still said he would become Luna’s kin for the sake of keeping their family together. He was entirely willing to give up EVERYTHING just to be with them.

          Even in the present day, he’s ALLOWING himself to be abused by the Comté because he TRULY believes that doing so and following his orders would bring his family back together. He’s putting himself in so much danger with going through such drastic measures to bring Luna back to life. And he even offered to go through the dreadful task of killing Vanitas’ simply to help him make his wish of remaining human and not being rewritten come true. Can you imagine how traumatizing that is ? KNOWING you and your brother will eventually die painful deaths and still having the maturity and dedication to your brother to be willing to grant your brother’s wish despite knowing how grisly and traumatic it would be and that doing so would ultimately leave him all alone ? And Misha still HAD that because he LOVED his family that much.

・゜-: ✧ :-   MISHA’S EXPOSURE TO THE WORLD.

          Honestly, I don’t think Misha had a lot of exposure to modern ( well, ‘ modern ‘ by 1800s standards ) Paris before he came to be with the Comté.

✧     Before being taken to Doctor Moreau, Misha lived in a tiny little hole in the ground hidden room under his Mother's bed. Misha never actually had a stable home. He was ALWAYS in his Mother's workplace. I don't believe he ever left the brothel. If he did, it was very little and he was so young he doesn’t remember much of it. If he wasn’t in that little hidden room, he was forced to work and be abused.

✧     A good portion of his life was spent far beneath the deepest levels of the church; being TORTURED DAY AND NIGHT by Doctor Moreau and all of his other scientist partners. He, of course, doesn’t see the light of day until he and Vanitas are saved by Luna. Though him and Vanitas are close, Misha doesn’t learn of the true extent of his brother’s past and trauma until Vanitas finally opens up when they are saved. Most conversations revolve around his own past or other things.

✧   Up until the point that Luna perishes, Misha lives your typical cottagecore life in the woods; traveling from place to place with Luna and Vanitas. The closest Misha got to civilization were quaint little isolated towns in which they would not be targeted for their connections to the Blue Moon. Other than that, Misha only heard of STORIES about the world around them through Luna and Vanitas who had both traveled far more frequently than he ever did. He always took pleasure in those stories and wanted to see more and more with his family. Though, the hatred the world had for the Blue Moon prevented them from doing so.

         It was only after Misha came to meet the Comté that Misha had any REAL exposure to the city streets. On one hand, Misha finds it FUN and EXCITING to explore the world around him. He wants to run around and see everything that Paris has to offer. Though, he still RESTRICTS himself and doesn’t allow himself to drop his guard. For one thing, he’s far too focused on his own goals of saving Luna to really allow himself to relax much. On the other, the Paris streets are the very same streets that so many DANGERS roam. The Crimson - blooded vampires that loathed the Blue Moon, the scientists still hungry for rats to prey upon, and any other greedy souls that may wish to seek the power of the Blue Moon for themselves or even take advantage of him simply because he is a child ( despite that already happening with the Comté ). He never lets himself relax fully because he knows he can’t; despite how much he wants to. Because he is never truly safe WITHOUT his Father and Brother.

        Something I feel that’s definitely not talked about a lot is how sweet and kindhearted Misha actually is, despite being introduced as this terrible, selfish villain. Mainly in chapter 55.5

        One of the the first things he does in chapter 55.5 was ask Vanitas if it was HIS fault that Luna died. He did definitely blame Vanitas at first as the one that killed Luna ( which isn’t wrong ) and he did state that he would never forgive Vanitas. But just from the look on his face, it’s fairly easy to tell how much the thought of Luna’s death possibly being his fault plagued his mind. After all, the last thing he remembers before the pain and the cold was falling ill and accepting Luna’s offer to become their kin. Luna’s death could have very well been HIS fault in his mind.

        He also really IS the only one that can truly relate to Vanitas’ pain and he’s not just saying that to be possessive or jealous or anything in my opinion because it’s very true. The two of them grew up together, were both experimented on by Moreau, both lived under Luna’s care, and of course, both are the kin of the Blue Moon and the ONLY kin of the Blue Moon. He very well knows WHAT will happen to Vanitas and he was definitely aware of the consequences of being bound to the Blue Moon’s power ( he just didn’t quite expect it to happen so soon to him ). Despite knowing what Vanitas’ did to Luna, he STILL offered to spare Vanitas’ the pain and kill him if / when he was completely rewritten and turned into a monster. And he KNEW how tremendous and painful of a task something like killing his own brother would be and he STILL offered to save him from the suffering.

        Another thing I do want to point out is when he made CERTAIN that Domi wouldn’t get in trouble for anything she did while under his control ( even if she didn’t do anything violent ). That singular action in my mind speaks a lot about Misha’s character and how he was manipulated by the Comté. Despite his own behavior and using Domi / almost killing her, he considered her a kind person and looked back on their interactions before he took advantage of her fondly. He didn’t leave Vanitas UNTIL he spoke up about Domi and spared her of any punishment she could have gotten from the Senate.

        I believe the way he used Domi leads back to the way HE was taken advantage of by the Comté. Neither Domi nor Noé knew or recognized Misha despite him being right there for YEARS. It was clear that none of them even knew each other existed. Misha in my opinion definitely knew way too much about Louis’ death with how gory his description was despite not being there and it was described in a gruesome way I personally don’t believe Domi would have; ESPECIALLY to a small child like Misha. 

        I think Comté told Misha exactly what to do and exactly what Domi and Noé’s weaknesses were ( ie, their trauma ). I think he told Misha ‘ Oh if you threaten Domi’s life, Noé will come running and you can have him suck Vanitas’ blood and kill Noé too ‘. I still believe Misha has a particular BLOODTHIRST and HATRED for Noé because Noé is the one that Vanitas’ attention is on and the one Vanitas rejected him for. But not Domi. He NEVER hated Domi.

        I think a lot of Misha’s more questionable / villainous / murderous tendencies come from his own trauma that never, ever seems to heal. His upbringing and abuse from the Comté definitely didn’t help either. Is he a saint ? Absolutely not. But he’s still just a little kid struggling to cope with the enormous amounts of trauma he NEVER got to recover from and while I don’t agree with Vanitas’ actions in chapter 55.5, the chapter did a really good job at offering a new perspective of Misha’s character.

        Now if they would just give Misha the happy ending he deserves or have him and Vanitas make up, that would be great.

General Facial Expression: Has a soft, childish, and unassuming face. He does smile a lot and appear to be a perfectly normal child. However, it’s rarely genuine unless it is around people he likes.

Presence: He tries to keep to himself for the most part due to the people after his life ( people that want the Book of Vanitas, vampires that hate the Blue Moon / humans / humans linked to the Blue Moon, scientists looking for new test subjects ) and generally keeps a small presence. To those that do approach him, he’s usually amicable and cute. But he CAN flip the switch if needed.

Appearance: Appears tidy for the most part but there are subtle signs of the neglect the Comté puts him through. Some examples are the exhaustion in his eyes and the dark circles underneath, the unkempt mess that is his hair, and his frame that is quite a bit thinner than when he lived with Luna and Vanitas. 

Scent: Smells mostly of soil from living in the forest under poor conditions and literally sleeping on the ground most of the time. But it’s much better than blood. 

Voice Description: Generally very soft and mild. However, he definitely can get loud and pissy if he’s really upset. Canon / French voiceclaim here. 

Accent: yes / no

Speech Mannerisms: Mostly informal due to being a child. He was taught some formal mannerisms from the adults around him for various reasons ( ie his mother to appease ‘ customers ‘ and Luna for actual normal reasons ) but he’s still learning.
